Looking forward to the Rhodman Tournament the weekend of March 11-13. The Tournament sites are Stelton Lanes and Brunswick Zone Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick. See you for the tournament.

Sandra, you should sue them for the trauma you were forced to endure. Blue tablecloths- how did you live through the horror?

11/14/10. Had my daughter’s bday party there on 11/13..Was not satisfied. Got the top package and felt like I did not get my money’s worth..The pizza was horrible, u were suppose to get decorative plates for the cake all we got was plain white ones..The table cloth was blue for a girl’s party..I would not reccommend them to anyone..

I love this place. Me and my friends always come here on a Friday night for Unlimited bowling. Great price and the music is awesome. The dude at the front counter is equally as awesome. We left Strike and Spare a few years back to come here cause they were packed, and we’ve been coming ever since. Great place to come on a Friday to have a night out with friends.

Had my daughters birthday here in December 2009 on one of the coldest days of the year. It was snowing outside. We were given a party room that was SO COLD that all of the children and their parents were forced to wear their coats. Besides the obvious lack of heat,We soon realized why it was so cold in the room. Snow had been steadily entering into the room from underneath the door in the room that led outside. We complained to the staff but got indifference. I wrote a letter to management but received no response. I will never ever patronize this place again!!!!

There was a shooting at the bowling alley last week. A man was shot multiples times and died. I would stay away from this place! And certainly keep my children away

Friday morning, me and my wife walked into Stelton Lanes and booked our 8 year old son’s B’day Party to take place on the 3rd following Sunday at 1:30 PM. We paid the deposit and went home. The same day after-noon, we went to all my son’s friends places and put the invitation cards in their mail boxes.
Monday late in morning, the manager from Stelton Lanes called us to let us know that we can not have our B’day part at 1:30 PM, instead, rescheduled for 3:30 PM because of some League playing bowling during that hour. We were shocked and deeply disappointed. We told them that “you can not do this” because we have already distributed the invitation cards for the B’day Party starting at 1:30PM and not to mention that, in some cases, we even spoke to the Parents to get a confirmation. But the Manager by the name Diane simply did not care about our inconvenience and all that efforts that we already put into this. Instead, she (Diane) commanded that we can not have our party at 1:30PM and she can not do anything about the inconvenience. We told them that it’s totally unethical on their part to change our party hours just like that. She din’t seem to care a bit. She did not have any professional courtesy to resolve this in an amicable manner.
We are totally unhappy with what happened to us. I do not recommend this place if you need to have a kids party. They have a highly unprofessional and unethical staff and they are not kid friendly.

Bowled one season at this dump, terrible atmosphere, terrible customer service, really rude guy at the front counter, GREAT SHOT AND PRO SHOP and the BAR. Maintence on the lanes is highly recommended for lanes 5-6 because every week they would break down. ALWAYS!

I had the misfortune of attending a birthday party there with my child one weekend. To begin with, the place was dirty and looked in need of an update (stained carpets, dirty tables, etc) Then I noticed an unkempt man that was lurking around the bar. I thought he might have been a homeless person, but then he went behind the bar and turned on the tv, so I am assuming he is an employee. The way he was staring at the children bowling made me very uncomfortable. I used the rest room and all I can say to the owner is…please get a cleaning service. There was trash on the floor, the garbage was overflowing, and it smelled. The pizza they served for the party, in addition to being cold, tasted like cardboard. I felt sorry for the parents that hosted their child’s party there. My advice? Book your party elsewhere!

I’ll say this, this bowling alley is a bit tight to hold some tournaments. But it’s honestly one of the best small houses I ever went to. You have the lil strip mall and even the golf course right there. It’s easy to get there and around there. I bowled quite a few times. In a few tournaments and what I realized. Drenched with oil and after coming from a house with a dry shot. These lanes were a bit rough. Yet I also come from a big BIG bowling alley. Overall, I give this bowling alley a high rating.

It has become very apparent that this site is no longer for actual comments good or bad about Stelton, as is now focused on bashing them. Everyone is not going to have the best experience, just as they are not going to have the worst. Lets try to get beyond the personal bashing, name calling and childish behavior and keep it about what is should be. There is no reason, good or bad, that you cant convey your experience in an adult and respectful manner. Its time to grow up everyone.

I read comment after comment and I honestly believe all of this is false. I travel every week across the U.S . to different states and different bowling alleys and trust me you think this is bad. I have seen ten times worse. First, the selection is very good. If nothing fits and you go all the time buy a damn ball and stop being so cheap. Second, the customer service isn’t bad at all. If you get negativity then its just because you are giving them a hard time because I know i NEVER received bad assistance. They always accomodate what is available. Then you got the phone call {deleted}. When you call and they say available lanes after 9pm, then be there by 9pm to get put onto a lane. They wouldn’t lie about that. I never had a issue neither should you. Birthday parties always run on time and get the full service. I attended parties from there. Again never a problem. Prices are always cheaper there then anywhere else. Oh and the best is when everyone compliments brunswick zone or whatever.. I’ve been there many of times. To be honest I don’t get full treatment there at all. I think its better at Stelton because the people think they are {deleted} at Carolier or brunswick zone or whatever you call it. So I think the people who criticize Stelton really, need a hobby.

Do you think the manangement actually reads this? I’m not sure they do….I don’t see anything changing about the place…staff is STILL rude, they have like 12 year olds working in the snack shop, where is the owner? Does anyone know who the owner is?

Comment Date: 3/8/2008 Name: Company Outing
My workplace had bowling at Stelton Lanes one evening a few months ago. It was the first and LAST time the company will ever spend its money there. The manager was extrememly rude, acting as if she did not want our business. In addition, the lanes would not open bar until we repeatedly asked the manager. THe manager also would not give us soda! Imagine that… a place of business that relies on customers, not providing any type of service to the customers!

Comment Date: 3/6/2008 Name: Rockhead
I actually like this place. There’s some attitudes at the front desk. One of the woman there is a real a******. But the proshop guy is great. As for open lanes, it’s all tight Friday and Saturday Night no matter where you go. Two weekends in a row I couldn’t get into Stelton or Brunswick. No what? I didn’t cry. I just went back on Sunday. Stelton is small, so there is a better chance you will have to wait then some other places.

Comment Date: 3/4/2008 Name: Always disappointed
Don’t waste your time. It’s conveniently located, but what good is that if every other time you go there, they can’t accommodate you. Even when you call ahead to make sure the lanes will open up for public bowling after 9:30 on a Saturday night (and they assure you they will), you get there to find out there aren’t any lanes, or the place is “closed for a private party.” What’s up with that? The employees don’t know when there is no public bowling available–on the same day you call? They just don’t care. Please suggest another place for me. Thanks.

Look! Screw Stelton and go to Brunswick lanes people. The atmosphere is hip, great DJ for cosmic bowling, and if you talk to the bartender, he will hook you up!!! Oh and the rude front desk lady probably needs to get some. That’ll calm her {deleted} down

Comment Date: 2/9/2008 Name: Thanks but no thanks
I experienced simply the same, no lanes whatsoever available for the entire day, what a joke. In my opinion, the place needs a good cleaning and a complete overhaulin’, management, staff, everything!!

This last comment is from a WORKER (Employee)? Could it be more sarcastic? A nice, polite, simple explanation would have been so much better. Obviously, just goes to show you the rudeness of the employees. (I’m surprised they took the time away from talking on their cell phone to actually write a response here!) Enough said.

Too bad on saturdays we don’t have any lanes because from 11:00 – 5:00 we have birthday parties. Actually yea we do sometimes have some open at the end but we NEVER let anyone prebowl or postbowl their league games during birthday parties because as the parties are going on THE LIGHTS ARE OUT. We have the cosmic lights bowling, therefore you can’t. Oh wait! why don’t you try from 5-10 Hmm.. maybe because we have league bowling that takes up the whole house. So please don’t try to critize the place when your completely wrong, it doesn’t look good.

Comment Date: 1/31/2008 Name: Edison, NJ
The absolute worst. Read what you want, but when the staff isn’t rude, its probably by accident. My son has hosted, and we have been to probably 4 or 5 birthday parties there. Don’t expect mother goose, and I’ll leave it at that.
We joined a league (Adult/Child) because my son really wanted to try bowling. Well..long story, short, make sure you don’t miss your scheduled game, bacause they will be right there asking you for the money, but don’t even try to think about pre/post bowling because unless you can make your schedule meet thiers, forget it. I have the emails to prove it.
The last time I called at 11:00am on a Saturday to try and make up some games we missed. I was told point blank, there were no lanes available ALL DAY. Nice….11:00am and there we would be no lanes available the entire day. And note would be bowlers, this was not the first time.
It is sad because it is very convienient, and I like a smaller venue, but not this one. Stay away!!

Comment Date: 1/23/2008 Name: Anonymous
Staff is extremely rude and uncaring. Maybe it’s because the manager’s kids all work there, who knows? I guess when Mommy gives you a job you really don’t have to do anything except talk to your friends on your cell phone. Spent quite a while with the Manager discussing a party I was thinking of having there..she was absolutely no help whatsoever, when you could find her working there! Even though they renovated a few years ago, place still looks dingy and dirty. I think the owner needs to step in and re-evaluate his employees and maybe give the mamger position someone who needs a job and would actually enjoy working there. Maybe a “people person”? Just a thought….. Brunswick bowling it is for me!!!!

Stelton Lanes is about 1 mile from where I live so the convenience has made it the place where we go most often. BUT, after back-to-back visits where I actually walked out after telling off the front desk lady for her incredible rudeness (she really needs a new career) I will never go back. In fact, I came accross this site just now while searching for another lane to go to and felt the need to post. Other than that rude front desk lady and the over-priced bowling for kids, I have no problems with this place.

If your going to go to stelton make sure this kid is working, I think his name is Jerry. He is the kindest, most hard-working kid I’ve ever seen focus on a job. And that’s not all! He’s wraps are to die for. They are just unbelievable! Everytime I go there and order food while he’s working during my league he does NOT disappoint. He is also so helpful, patient, and respectful to ALL customers. I’ll tell you one thing he is going to be some great cook. Well he technically already is, but man he can cook! So yea if you go to stelton ask for Jerry to cook your food cause the food he cooks just makes you think your in heaven. Man he’s like some cooking god!

I just have to say that a worker there, I think his name is Jerry or something, works the snackbar and is the BEST WRAP MAKER EVER! If you go to stelton lanes and you’re hungry order a wrap he will not disappoint. Plus not only is his wraps are phenominal he’s kind and considerate as well as he does his job. He keeps the snackbar clean and makes sure the customer is happy. You would think you would have to make reservations or call ahead to be able to order and eat the food he makes but nope, just place your order and a couple minutes later it’s like your eating in HEAVEN, THANK GOD FOR JERRY!

The next level of bowling is on the rise, Sport Bowling, and Stelton Lanes helped us on our jouney. This center made it easy to HOST our League. They were professional and courteous as we bowled there today. Not all Centers are willing to commit to putting out a Sport Shot Condition. We will be there one more time this season and next year as well! Thank you for helping us achieve our goal. Coach J Petraccoro Jr Gold League Director.

I’ve been going to this center for 19 years. I have seen it upgraded countless times, & each time it still remains the same. Maybe it’s time for an overhaul of the back-end and new pin setting machines with new ball returns. Time to take out the original AMF pin spotters of the 1950’s and modernize the place into the space age. The interior was just re-modernized recently (past two yrs.) and did a fantastic job of making the place look presentable for this day & age. Outside of the building is just the same old deplorable looking thing it has been for twenty yrs. The staff I have delt with has been mixed over time; I love it when the daytime mechanic (Henry AKA Capt. Schmucko) yells at me for throwing the ball too hard and (actually) breaking the WOODEN wall at the back-end. (I love it when I do damage) They tell me it costs almost a $1,000 to replace. Then, the new pins become garbage after two months of play because the machines eat them constantly. My brand-new ball got a nice scuff mark on it after the third frame of play; I took revenge by kicking the ball return so hard it didn’t go back into place immedieatly. If they took the machines and replaced them with modern ones, as well as new pins, then it would be a professional place to bowl at. But, as the old saying goes: “You can’t shine …”

It’s a shame that people have nothing better to do than bash others. I’ve been bowling at stelton for over 18 years. Before Nadine came along this place was a dirty, run down center. The place is clean, well run and the scores have been phenomenal. Well done

Comment Date: 4/30/2006 Name: Anonymous
If you ever want to get through to speak to Nadine, You might want to book your phone call MONTHS in advance. SHE IS NEVER THERE! How is she the General Manager when she is only there for 4 hours a day, IF THAT! They need to get someone in there that has an actual interest in the bowling alley, not just a pay check!

Comment Date: 4/23/2006 Name: Anonymous
Actually the razor blade story is true. Why would I make that up? That would be a pretty stupid thing to do. I am assuming whoever posted that it is false probably works their or knows the owners. But believe what you want just please be sure to check your shoes before putting them on. Thanks

This was one of the worst bowling experiences I have witnessed. The manager was extremely RUDE. She has no customer service skills whatsoever and is unhelpful in assisting customers. I would suggest people go to another bowling alley such as Brunswick Zone where you’ll be treated with much more respect.

I have also been a patron of Stelton Lanes as well as managing a league there. The league is made of handicap people. We were looking for a bowling alley that would accomadate us as well as give us a fairly good price. We approached Diane and she has been more than kind to all of us. She has been understanding as well as compassionate to all our bowlers. She gives them her undivided attention as well as her heart to all our kids. She makes them feel special. They love her and look forward to bowling every weekend just to tell her their scores and accomplishments. She is great with these kids and we appreciate everything she has done for our league. Diane jokes with them, listens to their everyday issues and gives them love. Thank You Diane for providing a league for our kids to bowl and enjoy their own Special Olympics.

I have recently fell upon this website and I am amazed at the name bashing of these workers. My child has bowled on the Juniors league for several years at Stelton Lanes and not once have I heard any vulgar language from any of the workers including Diane. She is very respectful to the kids, helps out her fellow employees in the snackbar and desk when it starts getting a little crazy. She tells the kids about tournaments, upcoming events and praises them when they get a good score. Whenever, the parents ask questions about the league or any matter that involves the bowling alley, I have never received any negativity. Everything was a postive answer and if she doesn’t know, she will find out and get back to you. I have even dealt with her in the summer months with the kids program and whenever there was a problem she took care of it no questions asked. She makes sure the staff is doing their job respectfully, therefore she is an asset to the lanes. I know she is good with kids and parents alike, I have seen if first hand.

I’ve been a patron of Stelton Lanes for so many years I hate to tell you because you’ll know my age. Stelton has always been a great place to go and bowl and the atmosphere and employees were always so kind and personable, until recently when Diane started to manage the Lanes. She is rude and can have very obscene language. If she doesn’t like you she is very rude and God forbid she cracks a smile and says “Thank you” to the customers. I can’t believe how someone like her is still in the position she is in. After a few times experiencing this I have never returned to Stelton. If Stelton ever wants to succeed as a business they need to get rid of Diane immediately, unless they are expecting a constant turn around of the patrons. To all the Piscataway and Middlesex Bowlers, there are other Lanes to go to who have no problem treating you with the respect you deserve as a paying customer.
Thank you

It’s so funny when you look on this site. You see entries from people like Justin Conover, the guy who had the story about the messed up balls, and the pro shop owner being rude to him. It’s no one’s problem if you can’t get your way in matters and then throw tantrums until you do. It’s even funnier that you still didn’t get what you wanted, even after all of that stuff was done. Or still other stories about razor blades in shoes, and nasty counter staff, or people talking with their “boys”. I find all of these stories offensive and untrue. I have been a loyal patron of Stelton Lanes for about 22 years now. I’ve seen many people come and go in that place. I am here to say, the current staff at Stelton Lanes, are the best that I have seen yet. Now, think what you want, I know this to be true. Some of the people that have been working there for years, and are truly dedicated to their jobs. Seeing some of the people on this site having their “horrible experiences” first hand, and then reading the edited version that they post on this site to make it a “woe is me” story, just makes me laugh. Please do not believe the comments on this site that seem to be overly negative. I’m not saying that people don’t have bad days every now and again, WE ALL DO, but NONE of the workers there “hate” their jobs. I personally hope that the managers read this. I say to her, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. I’ve seen you turn that place around from a hole in the wall, to the family recreation center that it is today. Don’t worry guys, You’ll always have people like us to call your patrons, and most of all, your friends!

Comment Date: 1/31/2006 Name: Anonymous

Ok, if you going to read any comment about a bowling alley, READ THIS ONE! All of the accusations on this site about Stelton Lanes are TOTALLY FALSE!! The staff has been nothing more than helpful any time that I have presented them with an issue. I have had MANY birthday parties and have referred many others to the center and all of them have been completly satisfied. The entire staff welcomes you into the center and makes you feel as if you’re a part of the Stelton Lanes family! If you visit any center this year, COME HERE! You won’t be sorry!!

I just wanted to let everyone know that when my friends and I went there he found a razor blade in his shoe. We could not believe it and we told the staff and they really did not care at all. They thought nothing of it. So we left right after that and have not returned since.

Upon arriving at Stelton Lanes I was disheartened by the unfortunate and utterly shameless display of lethargy exhibited by the staff. After having waited patiently for 46 minutes, I was finally greeted by the staff member behind the counter–after they graciously finished their cell phone conversation with their “boy.” I paid what I felt was an unfair price for 3 games and decided to leave, before the third game was actually finished because the gate came down on the sixth frame, and ultimately froze in place. After having appealed to the single staff member behind the desk, numerous times, I was told to wait my turn. Twenty-five minutes later, after no assistance or communication from the staff whatsoever, I approached the counter again expecting at the very least, civility. But before I was even able to speak, the employee broke free from another cell phone conversation to snap at me that the malfunction was “not my problem.” I can forgive young people for maladapted behavior and even lack of respect for elders, but the ownership’s negligence is damnable. And one more sentence.

Comment Date: 11/16/2005 Name: Dan
Stelton lives up to all the bad press they get here. My girlfriend waited for a simple order of fries at the snack bar for 30 minutes. This is due to the fact that the woman who runs the front desk ALSO runs the snack bar. Shouldn’t there be at least one more person in that picture? Maybe they’re trying to save money. For what I don’t know because the lanes are horrible, you damn near break your hip when you get up to the line and you don’t have any slide. The ball selection is crap so no money saved there. Hmmmm maybe its the rates? NO! $24.99 per hour! So where’s the money going? Do yourself a favor, keep driving past Stelton until you hit 514 in edison and make a left. Once you cross over into Woodbridge, stop at the Hess and ask how to get to Majestic Lanes on Route 9 in Hopelawn. THERE you WILL have a much better experience and start to forget the Auschwitz that was STELTON LANES.

I went and bowled in Stelten Lane in summer 2004 and I bowled really good. What I like about Stelton – I feel the lane condion is good and they got good side boards. The staff was okay, I feel no staff member was being rude to me.

Comment Date: 8/18/2005 Name: SHAWN
The staff there tells you there are no open lanes whenever they don’t know how to use the computer. I see about 50% of the lanes open and I see 20 people waiting in line to bowl, yet there are no open lanes. This place is horrible. Imagine if these people grow up and get real jobs. Um. there are no open runways to land or take off. BOOM planes start crashing. If the manager of this place reads this, LEARN HOW TO RUN A BUSINESS!

Comment Date: 8/16/2005 Name: Unsatisfied Bowler!
Have had a couple of open bowling experiences at Stelton–not very good. House is very small and you have to wait FOREVER to get a lane. Counter staff are nasty and are terribly inconvenienced if you ask them how much longer you have to wait for a lane. Forget about bowling with a 5 man team – no place to sit and if there is a place to sit there are a ton of kids running around the place bumping into you! Bartender was too busy flirting with other customers to serve other patrons. Do yourself a favor — find someplace else to bowl you’ll be much happier!

Bowled for 2 years at Stelton Lanes in leagues. First year was ok – good league, the employees are all friends being that I go there so much so no big deal there. Lanes are prepared the worst in central Jersey. Equipment is eh but I have had them mess up 3 balls on me. The pro shop owner is very rude and really doesn’t care about the customers. Many have thought that the house and the pro shop owner were in together on preparing the lanes so poorly just so he could sell new equipment. The managment is just as bad. They replaced one of my balls that the lanes messed up but the other one they had me take to the pro shop there and he messed it up even worse. When brought to their attention they said they had nothing to do with it. This place could be very good if it just got some people in there who actully give a damn.
