We went to cotton bowl lanes and the front desk girl was very rude to us. All I ask is for a little politeness, it’s not difficult to please me. There were too people that helped me, one a very skinny girl that was rude and another big girl helped me but she was nicer.
There weren’t any tournaments, but the snack bar was out of chicken fingers and coca-cola.

Cotton Bowl has been one of my favorite places since I was a child. We recently went this past weekend and had a wonderful time. We took our two daughters to the Lollipops Skating Rink and we went over to the alley to have a drink and bowl a free games. The bar is nicely stocked and big with pool tables. Our lane worked well most of the time and the Concessions Cook was a very nice girl. The front counter seemed a little disorganized, but overall a very good Bowl Experience in my opinion. We didn’t bring our daughters because the skating place seemed more Kid-Orientated.

I read these reviews and was a little cautious, but i actually had a really good time when i went with my family. The staff wasn’t rude, but they were busy and didn’t have a whole lot of time. I saw one young man get three balls out of a gutter, get a pin off the lane, and mop up a mess all in a matter of maybe 10 minutes! The staff was all courteous to me, and I enjoyed the $4 pitchers of beer. The place was rundown, but that’s the owners fault. I don’t think I saw the GM, but the staff was workin hard and the place was packed. I was really impressed that the phone rang three times and the young people behind the desk were still very attentive to me They need some new carpet and bathrooms, but it was fun and affordable! I’m thinking about joining a summer league one of the young ladies suggested to me.

I visited Cotton Bowl Lanes just a few days ago. We went on a Sunday and bought an early bird special. The front desk girl was very nice even though she was really busy and a young man named patrick helped my little girl find a bowling ball. The food at the concession stand was a little expensive but it was very good! All in all, a good and cost effective day out!
None of the employees seemed rude, they were just quite busy. Especially the girls behind the concessions and desk.
It was a little smoky in there, but it seemed to be adequately ventilated.

I’m very upset w the service here ! When we came 2 weeks ago the girl at the front desk was soooo rude !!!! She is the only person we had a problem w but we had to go lane to lane and ask ppl for balls bc when we asked her she said go find some !!! how crazy is that ..then our lane was messed up we lost almost an hr of bowl’n !!! I’m sorry i smoke but for better service i don’t mind go’n outside ! Cotton bowl u need to rethink ur employees and clean ur bathrooms or shut ur doors !!!!!!!!!!!

What in the heck has happened to Cotton Bowl? It seems every time I go in, the place gets worse and worse. There use to be friendly employees and at least decent food but it seems like since the new GM came along, he’s slowly fired off all the good employees and hired people who couldn’t really care less if you are happy or not. The front desk seem to frown at every customer that comes in, the bartender scares me at times, lanes constantly having to be reset and the bathrooms are disgusting. The only thing I can’t complain about are the concession stand cooks. They are friendly and smile at you and look happy that they have a job unlike most of the employees there.
Recently I’ve used one of the family specials and I had to reset the lane or ask for my ball back so many times I wasted about 45 mins alone for the screw ups and they wouldn’t refund me. It’s the last straw and I’ve had enough. I’m sticking to Strike Zone. At least the system is less glitchy so I won’t have to deal with the disgruntle employees.

I used to work at Cottonbowl a few years ago and to all of the people who say that they see the alley going down the toilet… That place has gone through 3 general managers in a 2 year span as well as new ownership recently. If it was going to die.. it would have already. Granted that there are some more things that could be done to better itself, and that Lollypops is opened again, I do not see anytime in the near future Cottonbowl closing. Even though it is much older than Strikezone, the lanes are still better in my opinion and the majority of people stay with Cottonbowl because you can smoke, unlike Strikezone. It doesn’t matter who is GM at Cottonbowl; it will always be there unless it burns down.

Just want to say it has been several months and there have been no renovations. As a matter of fact, the air has not been operating properly for most of the summer.

My son loves bowling so we took him to the Cotton Bowl Lanes for his birthday. I was REALLY impressed. Especially compared to how it used to be. The staff was friendly and helpful, the price was great, food was good, everything was clean. Can’t wait until all of the work is done. We are planning on a lot of bowling in the future 🙂

Why I do agree with “Oh Well” I also have to agree with the last post from “Anonymous”. I dont think Charles has the bowling alley’s best intrest in heart. While we know the economy is showing us that you will get worse before you get better I am not liking the new layout and the amount of time it takes to get anything in that place. Oh Well hit it right on the head Charles why do you still have people in there that dont care about how to make the bowling alley better? I am thinking you are being hood winked and if you were any kind of “GOOD” GM you would start by getting rid of that rooty poot staff you have and stay open later for holidays when people have nothing better to be out and about for other then inside activities. I look forward to seeing how long you keep that staff and can keep that boat afloat.

Cotton Bowl has been in the pits for many years now. Honestly, you can put any manager you want in there, it will be in the pits until the owners step up and renovate the center completely and totally. The league bowlers there have been lied to year after year. All we hear is excuse after excuse as to why we can’t bowl in a decent bowling center. Mr. Short, I feel sorry for you taking that position. You’re in for a lot of disappointment.

I am the new GM here at Cotton Bowl. We are in the process of updating the building and its facilities. Our renovation is set to begin in the next few weeks. I appreciate the feedback as it helps us make the needed changes to restore Cotton Bowl to a place where people want to bowl. If you drop by please feel free to discuss with me what we can do to serve you better!

Cotton Bowl Lanes used to be a really nice establishment. The past few years however, it has really gone down hill. Being out dated is fine. Being dirty, no scratch that, filthy, however, is not tolerable. Inside is un-kept, and the staff is even worse. They almost act like they are irritated that you are in the place. I have been in there numerous times at night, right after league is over, and have been told to leave. When asked why they were closing so early the reply is “because I am ready to go”. In these hard times, I can not for the life of me understand why you would turn down business. It’s almost like the staff does not want the place succeed.
You here rumors that they are losing money. Well, stop running people out, because you are in a bad mood! Many dollars have been lost, and many will not come back because of your poor manners and housekeeping. Almost nightly there are people who want to give you their money on the lanes and in the bar and you will not let them. Good luck finding another job.

There is a big difference between a bowling center and a bowling alley. Cotton Bowl is definitely a bowling alley. It’s smokey, dark, and dirty. While some of the employees are really amazing, the environment itself isn’t a place I want to be. I would love to see those employees surrounded by a better center. I would frequent that type of bowling center anytime. But as it stands, I don’t recommend this center to anyone. There are much better options in Southaven and the Memphis area.

Cotton Bowl is just fine. Yeah, I’ve had problems there regarding lanes before but the staff has never once been rude to me. The food is about as awesome as it gets at a bowling alley and they offer decent specials so you’re not spending a fortune to take your family bowling. I always choose Cotton Bowl over Strike Zone.

Well why I do have to agree with the comments it is an older place, I do not agree with some of the people saying it is outdated. Just like all bowling centers machines break. The lanes are just fine and are kept after pretty well. While you may not like some of the staff I am sure some of the staff dont like you. People expect to get something for free that is not the case. While the AC has been an issue it has been pretty much taken care of. While there is still some issues overall this is not a bad place to go. I have been up there many of times and seen some of the customers giving the employees a hard time. Maybe this is why some think that the customer service there is horrible. Do you ever think that maybe they just want to be treated as people instead of dogs? People dont come to your job and treat you like a dog do they? The atmosphere and the environment is not as bad as some make it out to be. You make your choice and go here or somewhere else. It doesnt matter to me but I will continue to go here. I myself have never seen this bad customer service some have talked about and I have seen changes being made to the place all the time. I think it is worth the drive and the money that it cost. Overall I would suggest this place over any other place in the area.

I have bowled at Cotton Bowl for many years. This last season (07-08) was by far the best season that I’ve ever been involved in. The manager during that time was Shawn Griffin. He did everything possible to make the leagues the best they could be under the circumstances of no air-conditioning, terrible secretaries, and horrible owners. Now that Shawn is gone, the bowling center has really gone downhill. I’ll be bowling at Billy Hardwicks this year. I’d be willing to bet that Cotton Bowl will be closed in the next two years. It’s the dirtiest, rudest place to bowl in Memphis now.

Cotton Bowl lanes is a great environment. It is good fun for everyone. If you like good food, fun, and some good bowling you got to come.

I think it is old, it stinks, and the staff is some of the rudest people I have ever met. This has been the case each time we give them another try. Always the same, DO NOT Recommend.

Cotton Bowl Lanes is definitely a little outdated. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. My parents are outdated, but I love them to death. I love the Cotton Bowl staff. I once heard the new manager say that he had the best staff of any bowling center anywhere in the Memphis area. He is right. I’ve never had better customer service. If you’re looking for a good time with your family, go to Cotton Bowl.

there is nothing wrong with cottonbowl lanes. Sure its not in the best condition…but it is worth the drive and money if you bowl in a league there. Yes, it is a huge plus that they do allow smoking, but you will not find another house that has league like they do on monday night. think about bowling back in the day. there was no music or entertainment. the only entertainment was to bowl. and thats what the bowling alley is for…bowling…enjoy the sport for itself instead of blaming the house for your lack of entertainment.

I do not recommend bowling at Cotton Bowl Lanes. The facility is a complete {deleted}. The only reason I bowl there is because they allow smoking and the bowling alley at Snowden Grove doesn’t. The air conditioner hasn’t worked all summer. The staff has cut our games off in the 10th frame several times, even though we are regular customers visiting the place 4-6 times per week. The security guards (off-duty Southhaven police officers) are real power tripping {deleted}, especially the steroid -driven bald guy). The lanes are constantly breaking down. The pro shop is NEVER OPEN. The GM is too busy bowling in the leagues to take care of business. The management chose to install an internet jukebox that is very expensive to play, but has many selections. The problem with this is that the staff turns it off every time someone doesn’t play rap or top 40 music, so money put in the jukebox is usually wasted. The bar staff is great though, and so is the food. I would recommend driving the extra 10 minutes to Memphis to go to Harwicks or Winchester lanes. They actually even have a pro shop that is open.

The lanes and staff are just fine…if you want to bowl in a cool (as in air conditioned) atmosphere I suggest you go someplace else…
