Very well said!!! The more oil they put down, the more agressive they make the balls.

Comment Date: 1/23/2012 Name: Anonymous
good point but tell that to the ball manufacturers. Also I know if you spend a little extra money and use something more then cooking oil on a lane then the shot would hold up a lot longer

Comment Date: 10/26/2011 Name: Chip
If they ban todays bowling balls, the lane condition would not break down so bad. The bowlers use equipment designed to suck oil off the lane, and then complain when they cant play the same line all night. They want everythings, balls that make them score high, and lane conditions that never change. If you want the oil to stay get rid of those sponges you bowl with!

Comment Date: 10/6/2011 Name: Anonymous
The lane condition is so bad, they should pay us for bowling there.

Comment Date: 9/18/2011 Name: Anonymous
So you think going up $.25 on linage is going to make or break somebody…you must be a burger flipper @ BK to be that broke.
Bowling is not inflation ??
Ok so because you want everyone to bowl for free nobody is getting any pay increases anymore, CL&P; can go suck an egg to get paid.No more oil for the lanes, no more toilet paper in the bathrooms, forget about insurance to cover you when you slip and fall on the crap in the bathroom because 1 nobody got paid to clean it up and 2 the lights were off from non payment so you couldn’t see it.
Oh look something else for your sorry butt to cry about, but hey as long as you and your league get to bowl for less money it AOK with you right ?.
Did you ever think about cutting into the league officers budget? Now there’s a great gig if I ever saw one…
I honestly never thought people could get to be so dumb until I read the last post…incredible !!!
BTW I am a business owner but not a bowling center.

Comment Date: 8/31/2011 Name: Anonymous
Unveils idea… You must be the owner or manager since you are so upset at the idea of making less money off of your league bowlers. Last time I checked Brunswick leagues were folding left and right. It could be from bad management but bowling prices have something to do with that. No one wants to bowl a whole season, come in 2nd out of 20 teams and lose money. The houses right now take a very fair cut for lineage already. Bowling is not inflation. Is there more money for us to spend in our pockets? No. There’s less then there was 5 years ago so jacking up your prices is only going to drive people away.
Do the math. If you go up $0.25 a night on lineage but you lose 2 teams of 5, dropping from 24 to 22 teams would cost you just over $3,000 in income per season. And that’s just one league.
My philosophy if I ever managed a center would be put the bowlers first. Keep them happy and they will always come back. You have a state of the art oil machine but no one with a clue how to use it. Granted it’s not the simplest of machines but hire someone that knows.
Of all the bowlers I know personally no one has ever said, Yeah Colony is a really great house with a great shot and pretty good prices.

Comment Date: 8/24/2011 Name: Anonymous
Hey Chip, if you bad cheater balls are you also going to ban the new oil machines, pins, lane oils and cars ! You can’t go back to the horse and buggy days and who said the good old days were really that good ?

Comment Date: 8/9/2011 Name: Chip
If they ban todays equipment, cheater balls, bowling would be a sport again

Comment Date: 8/7/2011 Name: Anonymous
Whos the idiot, the guy who throws plastic or the moron that spends loads of money on new equipment?

Comment Date: 7/28/2011 Name: Anonymous
Idiot you can bowl anywhere with plastic and score. Even at that dump up the street. That is bowling these days though.

Comment Date: 7/22/2011 Name: Anonymous
Well the nice thing here, is that you can bowl with plastic and score

Comment Date: 6/17/2011 Name: Anonymous
Yeah unveils idea, then we will all go over your house to bowl, right?
Not sure what cheapskate rock you crawled from but did you cost of living go down over the years ?
So your taxes haven’t gone up, utilities are leveled out and insurance premiums to protect businesses from people like you trying to rip them out of money because you think you ” deserve it” that must be nice…what color is the sun on your planet anyway?
It’s people like you that make businesses close up and fail…but that’s ok as long as you and your buddies got to save a few bucks.

Comment Date: 5/26/2011 Name: Anonymous
let me ask you one thing league bowlers.. is the oil pattern the same every week? do you get a fresh oil pattern for your league with 0 open play games or practice games on your lanes?? why not? don’t you pay enough in lineage for the house to s*ck up your prize fund? it has to be $11 or more by now. Havent bowled in this house in a few years. There is no point to winning a league and not getting all my money back. Theres lots of big money leagues around here and even for an average bowler, I have a chance to place in the top 5 and get $1000 for the year. Instead of your league officers just happily accepting a price raping year in and year out.. I would suggest bargaining and use the other bowling centers in the area to at least get an estimate for lineage and use that as a chip to get a lower price for your league.. but for some reason NO ONE wants to do that. It’s really not that hard, you’re not saying to move the league but at least have some ammo and ask for a lower price, and if they refuse (which they can’t, they would never let a league leave the house) you have the option to save everyone some money. Most likely they would match the price you got from another house so either way its a win/win for every league bowler. Especially in these tough economic times, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to pay a dollar or 2 less for bowling each week? that adds up over the years and it might only be 50-100 bucks but to some it goes a long way!

Comment Date: 4/28/2011 Name: Anonymous
It is simple if you want to score high in this house bowl tuesday or thursday nights. Thats when they put out the best shot. Why do you think ther scores are so high those nights? You dont think those bowlers are good do you?

Comment Date: 3/29/2011 Name: TNUC
Ridiculous – a $25k new oil machine and you people still find a reason to complain. It is probably just the owners from the dump up the street who are J E A L O U S because they can’t afford one for the bouncing lanes.

Comment Date: 3/18/2011 Name: Bowler
Dave has been trying to put a Colony shot out like the good old days…you know BACK ENDS..
however Dave is NOT the guy who has the final say. So when your told to go 40 feet during the day and 42 feet at night…good bye backends..
during the day plastic balls push oil down..break point goes away unless you have hand…if you don’t the ball doesn’t change direction..
at night the bowlers have strong balls that s*ck up the oil quickly..they have a different reaction…
So no one is happy with the shot…
Remember bowlers are looking for a reason to QUIT..
this New machine may have given them their reason to Quit or go somewhere else…

Comment Date: 3/13/2011 Name: Anonymous
Why waste the 50,000$ on that new oil machine? They don’t know how to use it.. Pathetic

Comment Date: 12/29/2010 Name: Anonymous
New Machine, new oil, and still the worst lane condition in the state!

Comment Date: 11/22/2010 Name: nice…
That is great news! Can they loan it to Wallingford Bowl for the county tournament this year? lol

Comment Date: 11/20/2010 Name: Anonymous
wat’s the point of a new machine if you don’t know know how to use it- the lanes stunk last Thurs. night-totally flooded.

Comment Date: 11/19/2010 Name: Anonymous
to omg, guess she must be the good looking one in your family.

Comment Date: 11/16/2010 Name: Anonymous
A new lane machine. There is a God!

Comment Date: 10/13/2010 Name: Anonymous
So right. This is the worst lane condition in all of bowling!

Comment Date: 10/13/2010 Name: omg
they hire the ugliest people to work here. this one girl who works behind the shoe counter looks like a rat.

Comment Date: 10/6/2010 Name: Anonymous
Thank goodness it’s not in this center!

Comment Date: 9/28/2010 Name: tom
It looks like the New Haven County Championship will be returning to the town of Wallingford this season, but not in this center. Bouncey Bounce.

Comment Date: 8/9/2010 Name: tom
you should spend less time on this sight and more time learning how to oil a lane

Comment Date: 7/1/2010 Name: Anonymous
So Manya the only reason the ball bounces at Wallingford is because all the fatties loft the ball there?

Comment Date: 6/30/2010 Name: Anonymous
The only thing that stinks in here are the bowlers.

Comment Date: 6/27/2010 Name: fatty mcfatterson
yes the remedy is to bend your knees and not lofting the ball past the arrows. but ya know, actually rolling the ball would be a silly concept. it’s okay though, continue to average 190 and complain about houses “bouncing”

Comment Date: 6/24/2010 Name: Anonymous
you guys need to change your cleaning service/cleaning person…very unpleasant smell.

Comment Date: 6/23/2010 Name: Anonymous
Hey fatty, loft is the best technique to use at colony.

Comment Date: 6/22/2010 Name: Anonymous
Oh so that is the remedy to stop the bouncing bowling balls at Wallingford – bending your knees? Perhaps they can put up a sign at the desk then for the all the fatties…lol. Good one Wallingford!

Comment Date: 6/19/2010 Name: too fat?
hey if you would actually bend your knees and not loft the ball down the lane at wallingford it wouldn’t bounce… fatties.

Comment Date: 6/18/2010 Name: Anonymous
Just a quick comment on the Wlfd. bowl pro shop……Much too expensive. Ball plus drilling? CRAZY… SOME EQUIPMENT WILL COME TO $225….YOU’RE NOT IN GREENWICH ANY MORE!!!!!!

Comment Date: 6/18/2010 Name: joe
So you guys had your big chance to shine this year when you hosted the county tournament. Too bad you scewed that up and left everyone with a bad taste in their mouth. You punks might talk a good game, but you just can’t seem to deliver when it counts the most. Now go “bounce” that thought off you head. I’m staying at Wallingford lanes because I demand more from a center than just cheap lip service.

Comment Date: 6/15/2010 Name: Joey
Yeah then after Colony they can try the “So you think you can not bounce the ball” challenge at Wallingford Bowl… lol

Comment Date: 6/2/2010 Name: Anonymous
they can also add the Wallingford Bowl bouncing lanes to PBA challenge and have a full tour swing in CT….lol

Comment Date: 5/26/2010 Name: Anonymous
This season the pba should add another difficult pattern to their tournaments. The colony lanes senior pattern.

Comment Date: 5/26/2010 Name: Someone normal
I never seen one hot girl walk into either center, want to know why?? ITS WALLINGFORD! All hicky people who are behind times. These people consider a night out at the bowling “alley” a vacation.

Comment Date: 5/15/2010 Name: Anonymous
what’s your name then if you have been bowling for many years then you must be well known in the area, so who are you?

Comment Date: 4/29/2010 Name: Anonymous
Ive bowled both places……Many years. Wallingford bowl is a dump. A lot of money was spent there. Things are falling apart. The owners have every oppurtunity to make things happen. They want everything handed to them. I believe with NEW ownership….This center could be a tremendous success. With the present owners…..GOOD LUCK

Comment Date: 4/14/2010 Name: Usbc
We do care about all our members. In fact we sent our coaching experts to colony to evulate the lane conditions, and to suggestion the best techniques to score well. They find that when bowling here, the following would work best, drop the ball, chicken wing your follow thru, loft the ball past the arrows, spin it like a top, take all revolutions off the ball, or throw it 22 miles per hour. We hope these suggestions help, and look forward to serving our members in the future.

Comment Date: 4/12/2010 Name: Anonymous
You need to go back and REREAD the comment by the USBC board member. It surely doesn’t sound to me like they (he or she) appreciates its’ members.

Comment Date: 4/12/2010 Name: Josey
Well I agree that there is one thing that Wallingford has over Colony – – -> bouncing lanes!! Let’s hope that Colony never tries to compete in that department…lol

Comment Date: 4/10/2010 Name: nancy
Must be league contract time – the owners of Wallingford Bowl are back up to their games and spreading lies about Colony closing. Grow up Manya!

Comment Date: 4/6/2010 Name: Bob
I dont think the usbc board member is stating that they dont appreciate its members. It sounds like they are saying the the tournament bowers should stop whinning just because they did not have their easy lane condition. Which I agree. Dont hang them out to dry, for stating the truth.

Comment Date: 4/6/2010 Name: tom
So it looks like when brunswick’s lease is up on this building they’re just gonna pick up their toys and run back home. I guess Wallingford bowl is too much center for them to handle. You know, oil on the lanes, clean bathrooms, good service. I give this dump about 2 more seasons if they just don’t drive everyone up the street.

Comment Date: 4/5/2010 Name: Lance
Kind of like how you wrote your name? lol

Comment Date: 3/31/2010 Name: Anonymous
whoever wrote the comment below from the USBC should be hung out to dry if it was really written by a USBC board member. The fact is, there would BE NO USBC if it wasn’t for the bowlers. US BOWLERS pay not only your salaries but WE pay for all awards, etc. The local USBC has been taking our money for YEARS and us bowlers get very little back for that money, and if that comment was written by a board member, he/she should be hung out to dry. So USBC member, why don’t you sign your name?

Comment Date: 3/27/2010 Name: Anonymous
How’s that broken down oil machine doing? Oh,it must have been repaired,,,it’s league contract renewal time. I’ll bet the lanes will be oiled for the next few weeks.

Comment Date: 3/25/2010 Name: USBC Board Member
We have reviewed your concerns about the lane condition during your recent tournament. And even though the New Haven County bowlers have been pampered for many years, by being given easy lane conditions, that have rewarded horrible technique, we have decided not to refund your money. We have been very generous in even publishing your inflated averages in our books. Be happy you score without haqving to bowl well.

Comment Date: 3/22/2010 Name: unhappy colony bowler.
this place is a dump and i hope a tornado sweeps it away to kansas. maybe the tin man can lend me some oil. i bowl in many other houses and this one has gotta be one of the worst. the only way you can bowl good in this place is first look at the floor, stick out your elbow, drop the ball in front of the line and fire it up the G. if you stick to that plan you too can bowl good like all the other shmoes out there.

Comment Date: 3/21/2010 Name: tom
so the lane machine was screwed up for the county tournament. that excuse has served these jerks well for a decade now so they might as well keep using it. glad i now bowl at wallingford lanes

Comment Date: 3/20/2010 Name: Anonymous
New Haven CTY USBC should get the money refunded from the Bowling center and return it to the bowlers or reschedule the entire tournament.

Comment Date: 3/18/2010 Name: Anonymous
yeah… cause the lanes at WALLingford are so much better…..well if you are a lefty they are 🙂

Comment Date: 3/10/2010 Name: John Chipello

Comment Date: 3/9/2010 Name: bowler
What a waste. This place has a shot that is almost as bad as amf milford. Maybe they should hire the kid that conditions the lanes at Wallingford.

Comment Date: 3/4/2010 Name: Nick
I have to defend Rich Valenti on this issue, this was my first Tournament and from what I was told the centers oil machine supposively screwed up. I bowled in the county tournament that Sunday mornining with a friend of mine and their was so much oil out their if you were to drop a match on the lane they would have caught fire! I heard the machine sensor was busted so it put a ton of oil down the right side of the lanes when my ball came back it looked like Saturn thats how many rings it had around it! Rich was gonna allow anyone who bowled that Sunday to rebowl their games, but the USBC stepped in and told him he could not extend the tournament. So I really hope someone steps up and takes care of all those people who put in their money for this event to get taken care of.

Comment Date: 3/1/2010 Name: Anonymous
The county tournament was a joke this year. They have some nerve- the entire thing should be refunded and rescheduled anywhere but this place.

Comment Date: 2/23/2010 Name: Anonymous
1) Who is John Chipello? I bowled at these alleys for over 15 years and never heard of him.
2) Why is this chat about him? I thought it was to discus the bowling center and give opinions on how it could be better

Comment Date: 2/23/2010 Name: Local County Bowler
Way to go clowns and make a joke of this year’s county tournament. Even though, there wouldnt be problems if Rich Valenti would have been out taping lanes to ensure proper oiling. Funny how he and six other county officers got to bowl on fresh oil the first sunday of the tournament…..Clowns!

Comment Date: 2/17/2010 Name: Anonymous
John is not the bowling center – he’s just the contractor who goes in the middle of the night to wash the toilets, and not very well mind you.

Comment Date: 2/15/2010 Name: Anonymous
Yeah right…John Chipello has resorted to advertising on Bowling 2 u. Thats quality.
BTW It is pretty clean if you don’t see the gum stuck to the floor, like the last 2 times I went there.Oh yeah that clean…. **NOTE** – Bowling2U does not accept any advertising from bowling centers. – B2u Staff}

Comment Date: 2/12/2010 Name: CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!!!
You Can eat off the floors!
Looks brand new!
Cleaning service deserves a raise! 🙂
Bottom line…
Cleanest center East of the Mississippi

Comment Date: 1/26/2010 Name: Anonymous
not a bad place, but wallingford bowl is much better.

Comment Date: 9/25/2009 Name: Mark
Well I have never heard John complain. I will say this, the guy amazes me I have seen him bowl single hand, two handed, and two finger all in one night, and shoot well over 600, and with plastic. pretty cool.

Comment Date: 9/23/2009 Name: Dave J
That explains your post, spoonge Bob was your brain surgeon. If you want to bash someone sign your real name or shut the **** up ! I don’t know John that well, everytime I see him he is bowling pretty well. One thing is, he is man enough to sign his post. Want to talk about whinners lets talk Andrew.

Comment Date: 9/23/2009 Name: brian
John is a good guy and a decent bowler. He complains about as much as just about any other average bowler. The only difference is that he does it on here. You chuckleheads take the bait and get into some juvenile message board shouting match with him or whomever is pretending to be him. Who cares if he gets lucky or unlucky on his games. There is an element of luck in any game both good and bad.

Comment Date: 9/17/2009 Name: Anonymous
What I find funny in this whole conversation is John is just whiner looking for attention.
Last year he cried like a baby when he bowl @ Superbowl about the shot and not having enough oil. When there was more oil he cried about to much oil…John is a legend in his own mind, and knows as much about bowling as Sponge Bob knows about brain surgery.
I’ve seen John throw 400’s and lucky 700’s several of the houses he’s bowled in.
He is not great by any means and way to inconsistant to be able to “destroy” anyone.
Thats enough attention for John…

Comment Date: 9/12/2009 Name: Anonymous
To the person listed as lane conditions, one question. What is your point? BTW don’t bowl John C with rubber, thats all he uses, he will destroy you. @40 in every house? you must be best pro on tour. ha ha

Comment Date: 8/26/2009 Name: Anonymous
I find it amazing that you are such a “Bowling god” but failed to name yourself. Kinda makes one think(or know) you are full of crap.
So when are you going to turn 13 ?
I dare you to come and prove yourself in any CT center. I got 2000 that says you won’t show.
Stupid little Wanna-be!!
I await your response….

Comment Date: 8/21/2009 Name: anonymous
OK This post is for Country in reply to his post on 12-8-08 about being a 200 bowler and trying to bash a 150 bowler! Bro I will fly back to CT to bowl you 100 500 1000 a game you name the date and price! i’ll own you at colony and any other house you want to bowl me at! I’ll even let you have them block out the left side so you actually might be able to keep the Match close! Before you run your mouth about being so great at bowling try ave. 230 for a season in 2 or 3 different houses! then run it about how great you are! i’ve spoke my peace if you wanna continue this you can email me at {Sorry, no personal email addresses allowed – B2U Staff}

Comment Date: 8/21/2009 Name: anonymous
I agree with colony being wide open! but then again every house shot in the country is china nowadays with the equipment oil ect. colony wouldnt be soo easy if scott would run a pba expirence league there! it doesnt matter I haven’t bowled there in over a Year!

Comment Date: 8/21/2009 Name: Lane Conditions!
Ok let me set the record Straight with everyone on John c’s post that i read today marked 10-28-08! If im not mistaking this is John Chipello! well John i know you know i hit every house is ct without a problem! I also whack Arizona Nevada Kansas Texas and basically any state I bowl in. Yes I killed colony but I killed every house in CT. The lane conditions are easy at Colony! the Reason why they seem inconsistent is that people throw inconsistent lines! So before we trash talk a bowling center Lets check how we compare at other houses! I ave. 240 on house and 2teen on pba patterns! bowling is an easy game! they should go back to flat oil and rubber then the game would be challenging! any1 can shoot 300 nowadays! bowling is easy!

Comment Date: 8/12/2009 Name: not so good customer service
i was there recently and was bowling in plane view of the desk and i happend to have stuck and fell down the lane about a good 5 feet and really really messed up my knee what bugs me the most is that no employee botherd to ask if i was alright or anything it took another customer a few lanes down to ask me if i was alright

I always enjoy bowling here. Its not too bad for a corporate house. However they might want to re think all the wood panneling that they have everywhere. It looks a little dated. To the guy who made the last post: Stupidest is not a word. Using that fake word is one of the most stupid things I have ever heard.

yeah the lanes are good but we need to tell scott to stop telling bs……..He told me that his pro sho did 70,000 bucks last year lol…… that is so funny in so many ways..buddies did 100,000….last year and there are open everyday all day lust fyithe pro shop at wallingford bowl is open more then him

Comment Date: 4/3/2009 Name: Anonymous
I think the lanes are fine – the shot is wide open (like all places these days) and the lanes don’t bounce – what could be wrong?? Did anyone get the District Managers name and number yet? I would like to call them to tell him / her what a great job they are doing at Colony.

Comment Date: 4/2/2009 Name: Anonymous
I haven’t heard of any leagues moving from Colony. I did hear of a mass exodus of bowlers from the place up the street though.

Comment Date: 3/31/2009 Name: Josey
Um…complain about what? That Wallingford Bowl is getting numerous customer complaints? Isn’t that Wallingford’s problem. What in the world does this have to do with Colony?

Comment Date: 3/31/2009 Name: Anonymous
you people seem to be consumed by Wallingford bowl-
seems to me you would be better served by taking care of your customers than constantly writing on this web site.

Comment Date: 3/31/2009 Name: Anonymous
My complaint has nothing at all to do with Wallingford Lanes- it has to do with the shot (or lack of it) and the
lack of consistancy. If you would stop trying to save money on oil, you wouldnt be losing your leagues to Wallingford bowl or any place else.

Comment Date: 3/28/2009 Name: Anonymous
I think we should start calling the District Manager from Brunswick to complain. I will look up his name & num. and post it here.

Comment Date: 3/27/2009 Name: Leo
I agree – it’s the losers from Wallingford Bowl trying to make this place look bad … shame

Comment Date: 3/27/2009 Name: Anonymous

Comment Date: 3/25/2009 Name: Anonymous

i am a new jersey jbt bowler and was up here for a tournament. i was also up at wallingford bowl. i have been to one center each time and after my visits, Wallingford bowl is the better center, enough said.

Comment Date: 2/16/2009 Name: Anonymous
I’ve tried the supposed “newly redone” Wallingford Bowl and the lanes bounced. Also they seemed to have cut some corners – the old ball returners are there as well as the seats in the bowlers area that look like they haven’t been cleaned in years.

Comment Date: 2/11/2009 Name: Anonymous
I can’t believe these comments- this is a decent enough place, but the newly redone Wallingford Bowl up the road is a lot nicer and friendlier.

I would NOT want my young child’s birthday party run out of a bar anywhere!!!!!!!!!! Besides, I hear it’s a dirty place.

They need a lesson on how to oil the lanes- maybe they should get it from there competition up the street…lol

I just reread my last comment. Golly, my spelling was really bad. Like I said in another post, I am not really a good bowler, I just like watching the balls bounce down the lanes (if you know what I mean). Plus Gary, the guy that runs the Pro Shop is really cute and he has given me a few lessons. I get a little tingly when he touches my arm, can’t wait for my next lesson.

This house is ran in a fashion that is inappropriate. During leauge, there is no staff available to keep leauge moving and the house is always dirty. The shot on the other hand is horrible and is always based on how the staff is whining that week about their average. It is a left handers dream house. The Pro shop is not a pro shop, it is a closet with windows and a door to look at. The pro shop sits in the bar every night and never works. The ball return eats your bowling balls all the time, I can garantee a new chip or chunk missing everytime I go there. The staff is not trained at all and just thrown into a company shirt to look pretty. I almost hit a worker in the head while in mid swing because she walked in front of me on the approach to get someones attention. Nice huh? Would you like me to keep going????

Comment Date: 10/28/2008 Name: John C
The shot is what it is. My only problem with it is that it really does a disservice to bowlers.
Anyone looking to get better will not on this shot. They will only learn to throw it as hard as they can to the outside and score. They may average over 220 and have the false assumption that they are good. Then they enter an event with an oilier pattern, They soon find out how bad they really are. Its not their fault, thats what the shot thought them.
This might explain why no real high level players come from this area. Most of your top players are from the mid west and west coast. So enjoy your average, just don’t bowl any where else.
Besides that, I like the center and I think the management and staff do a great job.

“if the manager gets more money from more profits as you suggest then wouldnt the manager do everything they can to get MORE people into the center to bowl and spend money?”
Of course.. my point is that what if the doing of “eveything they can” includes unethical business practices such as starting rumors about other places or telling others to NEVER EVER go someplace else because its horrible there?
Could this person or business face legal issues if when asked if there were any other like businesses in the area and they straight out said NO??
oh and if i was a bowling proprietor, I’d have better things to do then write on this stupid site.
I’m just tired of the same old tricks year in and year out, and tired of the way some people choose to run their company.

A brunswick manager gets a bonus every year based on how well he manages his budget. This process has been in place for many years. When the budget is established, the manager and Brunswick will track all the expenses and income every month. This process is done an ALL businesses, not just Brunswick and yes, most companies will give a bonus if you come in under budget. Keep in mind, they expect to make x number of dollars while keeping their spending down. Again, this is normal business procedures. Wherever the manager can cut expenses, he will. Will it hurt his business, well, thats his choice.

Comment Date: 6/16/2008 Name: John S.
Seems to be one big flaw in your understanding if the manager gets more money from more profits as you suggest then wouldnt the manager do everything they can to get MORE people into the center to bowl and spend money? Any wouldnt it be in their best interest to KEEP the customers happy? Simple more BOWLERS = more $$. Here is a basic example a league picks up two teams because the bowlers are happy there that equates to X amount of dollars for the manager. The manager in turns says, hey, this is cool. I can get a nice bonus if I keep my bowlers happy and get more people to bowl. What a concept! Ordering the cheapest supplies would go against this logic if it meant it turned people away. That would be LESS money in the managers pocket. Are you still with me, or are you confused? Please go back and re-read if you are lost.
Now for a privately owned center, the basic concepts are the same. They would want to keep their customers happy. However, some owners may not have the tools that say Bowl New England, AMF or Brunswick would have to educate their managers. This may lead the owner of a private center to think wow I can order Brand X oil for $20 a gallon, versus the oil I have been using all season that is $25 a gallon. Little do they know that would adversely impact the shot they have been putting on the lanes, and cause their customers grief.
By the way, were did you go to school? Did you graduate? This is basic business knowledge. Actually it is really just common sense. What is your job? I really hope it is not bowling center proprietor – that would be a real shame. Also, did they teach YOU how to spell your name, or were you absent that day? Just a thought but maybe you would be taken more seriously if you had the stones to back up your own claims. Lastly, there are some great business schools out there that can give you a nicely rounded education. I highly suggest you look into one of them. If you need help filling out the name part on your application then you may have a hard time getting in though. Good luck to you!

Comment Date: 6/16/2008 Name: Anonymous
I am confused – what do you think a proprietor / owner does? They make a profit, no? They put food on their familys tables, no? Is that taking advantage of someone? So anyone who runs or owns a bowling center should be on welfare then because….? Please explain. We’re all interested in your expert opinion.

Comment Date: 6/16/2008 Name: ok?
lets face it, NO ONE puts their name on this site. i’ve been bowling in CT for years, colony, t-bowl, circle, super bowl, hamden, amity, you name it.. and it just disgusts me how a person can be rewarded in his paycheck for taking advantage of other people…

Looks like the nice people from up the street are up to their dirty tricks again. They profess to love this sport yet resort to name calling and finger pointing. Concentrate on your own business instead of bashing Colony Lanes! You people are despicable and need to get a life.

Comment Date: 6/9/2008 Name: This is how it works (from my understanding)
From what I understand, this is how the management from Brunswick bowling alleys get paid…
Base salary PLUS a bonus.
the bonus works like this.. The more money your center profits, you earn a percentage of that profit in your paycheck! this would explain alot, since it would be to the managers benefit to use the cheapest supplies, like lane oil, cleaners, and food supply. Also using the perfect pour system in the bar to maximize profits. ask anyone who’s had a mixed drink how big of a ripoff it is.
also pay the employees the min. wage or barely above it. and charge the highest lineage for leagues!
Now this is all good if all you care about is money in your pocket!! then i’d say congrats! you are doing an amazing job and i’m sure your District Managers and Regionals are highly impressed!!
BUT bowling is NOT a greedy, take everyones money type of business. It’s a recreational activity where the owners/managers usually have a close relationship with the regular customers and take care of everyone that is a repeat customer.
We’re not selling Gas here.. Just playing a sport we all love, not trying to get rich, especially when it causes complaints about your place, employs people at unfair wages, and puts more money in YOUR pocket..
sure, he bowls in a league there, but from what i understand it was only because the league had 5 teams and he didnt want it to fold (because he loves bowling and cares about the people in the league? NO, because he needed the added revenue to boost HIS paycheck, more likey then not.
As a league bowler, i dreaded moving into a corporate style bowling center. but i gave it a chance. Wasn’t really happy overall by seasons end, lanes were different all the time, and on weeks where kids were off from school, lanes were atrocious, unplayable sometimes. Whats so hard about applying fresh oil in the afternoon? sorry.. it would use more oil and cleaner, thus costing more money. I mean.. for every dollar NOT spent, is an extra dime in your paycheck.. but Correct me if i’m wrong. and i KNOW you read/post on here. I just dont think you’d have the stones to sign your name…

My post was for “jay” only. Everything I said pertained to “Jay”. Why you would take exception to it, is a mystery to me. You complain about me not posting my name, but what about you ? You did not post you real name either. I rarely issue a challenge to anyone and it was not for everyone on this site. In my opinion, Jay is an idiot with a big mouth. Anyway, I am not finding this site to have real value about the bowling centers in our area, just a lot of people complaining. What a waste of disk space. I visited twice, posted 2 replies, and I am gone.

Falsifying information? The average perhaps ?
I would take you up on your challenge BUT I certainly wouldn’t do it on a typical house shot.

Jay, I average over 220 in more than one house and if you are a bowler, as you say, you probably know who I am. Yes, I am from the Wallingford/Middletown area. The game needs all kinds of bowlers with the exception of you. We need the low and high end guys, but not bowlers with a big mouth. People like you are the ones that ruin the game. I am guessing you are some kid with not a lot of brains and no game to back up your mouth. Do us all a favor, and quit bowling, or maybe you would like to back up you mouth. I am available, but we will start off with $200 per game and go up from there. Again, think before you post, like I said, if you are a bowler, you know who I am.

We don’t pretend to be great bowlers, as I previously stated, most of us are about 180. We bowl for fun. It IS supposed to be fun, remember we are NOT a PBA league. We ARE certainly good enough to determine if the lanes are consistant. Are you now saying saying that 180 av can’t tell if the oil pattern is consistant from week to week? Because then the seniors don’t matter, almost all of the women don’t matter, and all of us 180 av guys don’t matter. Do you represent the management at Colony or are you just someone someone who considers himself to be a bowling guru?

Comment Date: 5/10/2008 Name: Anonymous
Sounds like the management here cares only about their employees and big shot high scorers, not the average bowler.

Comment Date: 5/9/2008 Name: Anonymous
So Jay, are you saying that us league bowlers 180 and under should not have any right to comment? By the way, I was NOT telling anyone how to oil or maintain the lanes. Just saying they should be CONSISTANT, if it’s a regular league, not a PBA. I believe many of the league bowlers agree with me. The lanes should NOT be exclusive to the lefties or the 200 + average bowlers. There are still plenty of us who bowl 180. If you think we’re not worthy to bowl at Colony, please let us know.

Comment Date: 5/9/2008 Name: JB
Jay, the 170 and 180 bowlers need the lanes to be consistant. They are the ones that do not know how to adjust to changing lane conditions and when the lanes are different, they suffer the most. Jay, unless you are averaging over 230, you are not much better than they are, you just practice a little more.

Comment Date: 5/9/2008 Name: jay
No I just think you are completely clueless. If you can’t average 180 on the walled up shots at any bowling alley it means you are no good! 178 shows that you are not accurate, miss spares and have no speed control, so you CANNOT determine if the lanes are consistent or worlds apart. What do you plan to accomplish with “consistent” lanes in your mind – improve your average to 190? Here is some advice – practice!

Comment Date: 5/7/2008 Name: jay
If you are a 178 avg bowler – you have no business telling ANYONE how to oil or maintain lanes. You couldn’t even tell if two lanes or the entire center was oiled exactly the same. It is pretty obvious you can’t throw the ball the same twice.

Comment Date: 5/5/2008 Name: Anonymous
That’s right, I don’t pretend to be a candidate for a PBA league. I’m just a regular league bowler 178 av who wants a fun nite out with lanes oiled consistantly for a basic league, like most houses lay down the oil.

Comment Date: 5/5/2008 Name: JB
I feel as a league bowler, if you bowl every Wednesday at 7pm, the lanes should be fairly consistant from week to week. Yes, sometimes there might be a problem, but that is the exception not the norm. When you show up to bowl and after a few shots, you are fumbling in your bag for another ball and trying to line up 10 or more boards right or left is not acceptable. The house should be able to perform the same routine from week to week and give the league a fairly, yes I said fairly consistant week to week shot. I think that is all we can ask for.

Comment Date: 5/5/2008 Name: Anonymous
Oh, do they oil???? Can’t tell by me.

Comment Date: 5/5/2008 Name: Anonymous
We’re not talking a sport shot here. Adjusting is fine, but the point is, the lanes are never oiled the same. It’s always a different shot and a guessing game. That is not a matter of adjusting, my league is not a sport league. If the frustration keeps up, we’ll move elsewhere.

Comment Date: 5/2/2008 Name: Anonymous
Perhaps when they get somebody who knows how to adjust they will get somebody who knows how to oil the lanes ? Pretty fair deal no ? oh no I’m sorry you must be one of the one shot wonders who frequents this board and whines like hell when you can’t stand in the same spot and adjust to nothing in order to score well.
Obviously you are one of the NON candidates for one of the PBA eperience leagues.
Perhaps since you have such great knowledge of “how it should be done” why don’t you go there and apply and you oil them ?
Again I’m sorry your only a big tough know it all in the shadow of darkness(aka an internet message board).
Damn wannabe’s……

joe, you must be a righty.. where the shot is not too tough, not too hard..

lets see, at least 4 800s and i dont think a right handed bowler shot 800 at all this season

to everyone, the majority of the centers in the u.s.put heavy oil in the middle of the lane, due to these $200 strike-in-the-box bowling i said ,at meadows, the lanes were stripped/oiled every day.once the lanes were done, the lane machine never made a appearance after that.yes, meadows had play during the day,monday-friday,,its not easy trying to get lanes done between leagues,to satisfy the night leagues.since the 90s,the 3 units of oil rule, hasn’t changed.if you have to bring the machine to add more oil,YOU’RE CRAZY!!!!

Thursday i shot 279 my 2nd game..Ten pin…
teddy asked if he could oil the last 4 lanes..
we said sure…then i bowled my last game after teddy drop a pile of oil in the front (filler)
the backends were still there..however i could not make the 7 pin or the 4 pin going across the middle…also had to face up to hit the pocket..
ten pins and wash outs…the New pins are great..
just don’t let teddy oil the lanes before you bowl your last game BIG mistake..
i can adjust however not that fast…
496 after 2 games…teddy strip and clean the backends Please…
P.S. my last game was a nice little game…you can look it up…i am sick about it…

this time, too much oil in the middle made for over/under everywhere, i feel so bad for the guys with low revs, scores down a TON from last week

Comment Date: 3/11/2008 Name: Anonymous
Ya know in a perfect world, as one said earler in a competitive league the oil should be fresh…ok. But on the other hand if you really want to create competition the shot should be changed periodicly. But unfortunately because of all the one house wonders who only know one line to shoot and keep a 200 average thats not possible, because they cry too much.
I would love to see these same “bowlers”(term used loosely) step up to the plate and join a PBA expirience league and see them put their money where their mouth is, unfortunately that won’t happen because most are afraid to find out people like myself are absolutely right when I say these wannabes wish they were half as good as the think they are.Bottom line, shooting the same house shot week after week, year after year does NOT make you a pro by any means.

i haveto agree about the lane management.. for a competitve league the lanes should always be fresh, not filled in after open bowlers move oil around..
I throw high revs and have aggressive equipment so i shoot 700’s now, but if you have an old ball and no hand then I’d haveto say that you will have a hard time bowling on colony’s pattern
also i dont understand why they changed the pattern so much during the middle of a season.. that doesnt seem too smart

What’s next ? Would all of you so called bowlers like to do have the lanes stripped and oiled between shots ?(Of course most would still find something else to P & M about)
Heres a better idea…perhaps people should :
1) Grow up.
2) Learn how to adjust to different lane conditions.I know god forbid that you would have to not stand in the same spot and throw the same line all night and shoot a 900 series.
3) And most importantly stop blaming everything else in the world for your incompacities.
“It’s always the lanes and never the bowler”
I’d love to see these same whiners on a golf course, it would prove interesting to see what they could complain about there….” The grass is to wet – the grass is to dry – they moved the hole – and the list goes on and on…..

still crying the blues about no back ends???if the backends are stripped everyday, backends should react.most of the centers i bowled in,strip the whole lane everyday.i know brunswick pinsetters dont like too much oil.i dont know, its not my problem.have fun.

Comment Date: 2/22/2008 Name: No Thumb Bowler
When you don’t Clean and Strip the backends until 10pm at night…What do you think is going to happen when you add a puddle of oil in the heads at 4pm each day..after seniors, kids. and open bowlers have pushed the oil down the lane…
then after you drop this puddle of oil in the heads and you already have week or NO backends because of all the bowling all day..
then you have open bowling after 4pm..and then the 5 man league bowlers with there heavy duty
bowling balls, rev. rate.. and 15 minutes of pratice…Now teddys oil has been push on top of the all day old oil..Bing Go you Now have heavy oil in the heads and NO backends…again bowlers with alot of hand are in heaven…bowlers with NO hand are in HELL…Good Luck Colony you are about to lose some bowlers… Pls. Clean and Strip the Backends at 4PM…I know you have reasons why you don’t…However they look like excuses from where i am sitting..POOR Lane Management…

What??,a complaint about no back ends!!!My advice, buy a ball that goes long and has not much snap.If theres a problem with the lane machine, thats where Mr.Hill comes in.As a ex-head mechanic myself,I always kept my eyes on the lanes and these lane machines. Not many guys out in the field, have a clue when it comes to lane maintenance. Most just do the lanes, and thats it.I’m just glad the avg.bowler doesnt do the lanes themselves. On these websites, these jokers keep saying they can put out a shot.Myself,I havent seen a bowler who could do that. These lane machines today are very sofisticated and unless you been in the bowling business a long time, you’ll be wasting your time and the bowlers will cry like 2 yr olds.

Comment Date: 2/18/2008 Name: Where are the backends…
Seems to be NO back ends after 4pm…when Teddy
adds the oil filler and doesn’t strip the back ends…are gone…Bowler who can make there own backends over power the lanes are Good…everyone else is ******…..

to the ones that say the conditions are easier now.(usbc).where have you been???the 3 units of oil rule has been around since the long as there’s a trace on the outside boards,it’s 3 units.until usbc changes that rule, the scores will be out of want challenging conditions, bowl in a sport league, where so many weeks, you bowl on a different pattern.,or better yet, bowl on the pba tour patterns.until usbc does something drastic, about every house will be like stevie wonder lanes.

Comment Date: 2/7/2008 Name: Bowling at Colony
Dave and Scott have decided to give BOWLERS what the want an easy shot…however other bowlers who thought it was real easy.. are Now getting beat by bowlers who are not that good..
USBC tried to even things out with 100% handicap..
and negative pins for Good Bowlers…
Now with easier lane strikes
in a row by a good bowler looks the same by a NOT so good a bowler..Now were hereing “My strike is better than your strike” What a mess…Soon the Good bowlers will stop bowing on easys lane conditions..and either QUIT.. or look for tough lane conditions .. Leties are starting to notice that there shot is NOT that easy at Colony Lanes..
this is a good thing…stay tune this could get good…

me,it makes no difference to me.the lanes are just as good,as the person maintaining them.i personally like amf(HPLS).

Do you like HPLs (AMF Lanes) or Brunswick Lanes??

When people say the shot is too easy, they have no clue about the state of todays bowling centers. Most league bowlers do not want a hard shot. Plus if the center put down a hard shot as their house pattern, most of the bowers would leave and bowl somewhere else. If the bowling centers want to compete with others, they have to put down certified walls in order to keep the bowlers and pay their bills. If you want a harder shot, join a PBA experience league. If you want more of a challenge on the certified walls, then use plastic !

Hey league bowler. What choice do they have, with all the cry babies in there whinning about lane conditions. I think it is quite a feat to make almost all players happy. Weather they play down and in or swing the ball, or even if they are left handed. (Ha Ha). If you don’t want easy conditions stop complaining.

i don’t believe my eyes again,bowlingfanatic2828,on another site.i don’t know who you are,you couldn’t react to the lane conditions?that shows you can’t adjust to the conditions,or expected a stevie wonder shot.wait until i tell them i saw you again,on this site.the comment before this one,i agree!that’s why, usbc, needs to change that 3 units of oil rule, and have everyone put out a shot almost like a sport shot, and tighten up on these ball makers.hey 2828,let me put out 45ft gutter to gutter,no crown and you’ll be packing up your equipment, when you can’t even have a 200 avg. anymore, better yet 150,if you’re lucky.

BowlingFanatic2828 are you a Lefty…then you love love Colony lane..i think the bowling center leans to the right a bit…ha ha…

Colony Lanes are fantastic! I much prefer them over Wallingford Bowl. They are usually dry, unless at the JBT, the approach is really off and the lanes are soaked. My FURY had a hard time reacting in it. I feel the pricing is very good and the machines are fantastic. I also like the seating, as well. I do, however, feel the pro shop is weak. Overall, though, a great bowling alley!

and the lane man is a lefty..what a great deal for left handed bowlers….last night Pete Stone
shot 847…Lefty RULE…it like stealing HA HA…
Just call me John Al…as Guy said I would have scored better if i was a Left handed..i love it…keep crying Bobby Glenn…ha ha..

Great job?!? are you kidding me?
Why in gods name is anyone thanking someone for opening up a shot so guys can average 230-240 with their eyes closed, most of whom spin the ball, just like you spinner.
I bowl in this league (225+) and it makes me quite sick how easy it is to score.
This is over 15 pins higher than I have ever averaged anywhere else ever.
The only plus about being there on Tuesdays are when the desk ladies daughter comes in with some of her friends. Now that’s a quite the mother-daughter combo. Kudos to them and their bods. Ha
But back to bowling…let’s all get real, i enjoy bowling in the league but to see someone actually go out of their way to compliment the center on babying up the shot in today’s game with today’s technology is just outragous.

Dave H. at Colony is one of the top-notch mechanics/all around person when it comes to operating & maintaining a bowling center. He has spent most of his life in the industry as I have. I had the pleasure of meeting him once back in ’83 when I also worked for BRC. A gentleman and professional all the way.

I have bowled in every center in Ct. This is the best. People are great, Head mechanic, Dave Hill, is terrific. Understands bowling better then most people do. The shot is great and is always consistent. AMF should hire these guys to teach them how to run their centers.

hello – can anyone tell me if there is a youth league? we are currently unsatisfied with another lane (which will rename nameless but resides in waterbury) and i am looking for a good place for my kids to continue bowling…

Comment Date: 7/25/2007 Name: This kid
I have been bowling there for 18 years now, so i now everyone there the good and bad. Some of the employee’s are awesome some are in better terms a holes. The lanes have improved a lot. the pin setters need some improvement but overall the place is a lot better. there prices are the best i have seen. Discounts to get $1 games instead of going to another place and spending $5 plus shoe rentals. So for the price this is the best place. as for food they could have a better selection. But what can you say its a bowling ally not a 5 star restaurant

I’ve been going up to Plantsville to the Brunswick Super Bowl because they treat me a lot better and the house is in better condition.

I bought a ball there and the same thing happened to me. I complained about the fit, the pro shop guy told me I was releasing the ball wrong and wanted to give me lessons (for a charge). I went to anouther shop (laurel lanes), had the ball redrilled and now everything is fine. Bowlwinkles is a rip off.

Comment Date: 6/25/2007 Name: Anonymous
Do not go to Bowlwinkles for your equipment. If you go, you might get lucky, but everyone I know that had a ball drilled there, had problems and the pro shop guy said it was his fault and wanted him to take leasons (for additional cost).
Bad place, go somewhere else.

Heard rumor this is their last season due to lease/property development. (Another big shopping mall, I guess). Can anyone deny/confirm this? Thanks!

To the group that claims our center was unfair to them. I am curious to know where you found a cheaper price or as you put it “a better deal”. As far as my knowledge goes, we are the cheapest center in the New Haven Area. If you would provide proof of a cheaper deal than what Mike was giving you, I would be glad to match that price or in our eyes, beat it. Although, Mike is no longer with our business, I will do everything in my power to earn back your business…

Comment Date: 8/30/2004 Name: Employee of Brunswick….
I do work at Colony Lanes and recall the group that use to come in. Because Mike had given them a deal when we weren’t as busy and had lanes available, this group expected it all the time, even when Mike didn’t work. Now for the lanes of bowling, during Cosmic its $150.00 for only 2 hours and only a pitcher of soda. Mike was kind enough to add an extra hour to their bowling time and throw in pizzas too, all for less than what they should have been paying. But, one night when we were busy the group came in and Mike couldn’t give them that kind of discount when it could have gone to other bowlers paying full price. And yes, Mike didn’t go himself to tell the group that it was $3.19 a game at the time, he sent another employee, because he was busy doing things at the counter. Mike was more than nice and generous to this group, by charging them less than $8.00 to bowl during Cosmic. It started getting ridiculous when this group would come in Saturday nights when Mike wasn’t working and demand the same discount. Mike was just cutting them a break, and they tried to take advantage of it. And when they couldn’t get a deal one night, they wouldn’t come back. They should be thankful that he did what he did for them in the first place.

We would go bowling every Saturday with about 13 people and there is a guy, his name is Mike. He would give us a good deal; it would cost us about $100.00 dollars for about 3 hrs of bowling. He would give us 2 pitchers of soda and 2 pizzas and we were all happy. This continued for about 4 months, then about 1 month ago we came in as usual and he didn’t even have the guts to tell us to our faces that he couldn’t do any more deals. He made a women come over and tell us. She said it would cost us $3.19 a game and we told her that was too expensive for us, so we stopped going. We found a another place that is a lot better and is giving us a better deal. I just want to tell Mike he lost Brunswick a lot of business because we would also go bowling during the week and send some more friends there, and now we don’t. We would love to come back if you can give some more deals like that. We can get a lot more people to come with us. Thank you for listening to us.
