Pins and lane surfacing are routine maintenance for all bowling centers. As a bowler, I agree that some efforts are being made here. I don’t agree with the big props for stuff that needs to be done anyway. As far as the shot is concerned, I would say nothing has changed. There seems to be a 300 or 800 there every week and Terry Martin is still averaging 240.
If you ask me, we roasted over the summer and now that winter is here, the building is freezing. I’d be happy if the hvac worked or if somebody there could properly set the thermostats. Outside of climate control, I have no major complaints.

Well the new owners will be there 1yr. As a bowler their they made good improvements to the lanes, new pins , cut and resurface lanes. Oil pattern the same but with the lanes being surface the shot a little hard. Still need to be broken in and pins. Good job to Joe and Kris their trying, Keep the good work up. Mr. John

I understand that the new owners didi take care of the gift card this past we.

Comment Date: 6/15/2010 Name: Tim
I heard that the gift card was 2yrs.old. Would you take something that is 2yrs. old.

Comment Date: 5/24/2010 Name: How Sad
Under the management of the old owners, my family paid in advance for my mom to bowl on a senior league. She could not finish the season so the old owners gave me a credit voucher for the unused portion. I wanted to use it for a family bowling outing with my mom after the establishment changed owners and the new owners would not honor it. You would think they would want the positive feedback to build their reputation as new owners. I know I wont be bowling there anymore.

Comment Date: 1/27/2010 Name: travel bowler
Well, I have to say I’m impressed. The new pro shop area does look pretty nice. It’s much more spacious than the previous closet where they used to have the shop. I think the new people are heading in the right direction. Even the fresh coat of paint looks pretty good down in the arcade!

Comment Date: 1/25/2010 Name: Bowler/Worker
I have bowled at this establishment since I was a small child and currently work there as well. I have seen the owners change twice and although things are different the new owners and trying to make due and do a good job. The new owners are very nice and will willingly talk to visitors and even joke around. They just need time to get usedto the new area and everyone needs some time to get used to them since there was no idea that owners were changing. It was just as a shock to me as it was to you guys that owners recently changed but they are nice and I think are doing a pretty good job.

Comment Date: 1/7/2010 Name: travel bowler
I’m a life long league bowler at Blue Ball Lanes. I’ve seen the alley change hands twice now. The new people don’t seem too bad. I haven’t been treated any differently by the new people than I was by Mikki and Glen. I’m going to continue to bowl here and give them a fair shake. Things like this take time I guess. I think it will work itself out.
With regard to the pro shop, I hate to see anyone lose a job or a business. I’m sure they will bounce back from this and do well. Somebody mentioned him as one of the best in the county. This is the only thing I really can’t agree with. I gave this shop a chance and it just didn’t work out for me. Others were happy with their work, but I just can’t say the same. I give them credit. They tried to make it right, but never succeeded. I was going to go to Dutch or Berks and give them a chance, but maybe I’ll wait. I will give the new pro shop a chance and see how it goes.
Either way, good luck to all parties involved in this time of change.

Comment Date: 1/7/2010 Name: league bowler
I think everybody should just bowl. I’ve bowled there for years. When the place change hands, things change sometimes good, sometimes not so good.I think the center wents to be run like a bowling center. Not this free that’s free. Its about time that some people should wake up. The one’s that complain are the one’s that can’t get there way. There doing a find job. And many of the people I’ve talk to think so to.

Comment Date: 1/7/2010 Name: bowler
There is always two sides to a story. As far as the pro-shop goes. The bowlers don’t know everything that””s going on.

Comment Date: 1/5/2010 Name: A former patron
It is a shame that the new owners and their family feel so defensive about their new business. The lanes used to be a welcome place to go, but there is an uneasiness there now. It is also a shame that they feel the need to be dishonest about the departure of the current pro shop and the upcoming new one. What was promised to one has been given to another, more related person. However, honest comments are no longer welcome on their FB page, so we need to resort to this site to express our opinions.

Comment Date: 1/2/2010 Name: Matt
Blue ball lanes was a nice place until the new owners screwed it all up. Prices rose, things tightened up and its not the family environment that it used to be. They just recently pushed out probably the best ball driller in lancaster county which was a terrible move on their part. Don’t bowl here, they are changing this place left and right for all the wrong reasons.

I bowl at blue ball lanes and im still shocked the way things went down. I try to talk and get to know the new owners but im not sure the effort on ther part is the same the do seem like a nice group but it just dont have the same family feel to it

This has got to be one of the best bowling alleys I have gone to. The staff is friendly and very helpful. One gentleman took time out to give me a few pointers on my bowling. I always have fun and feel welcome.

They say you can’t please everyone. From reading good and bad comments,it seems that the one’s that complain are the one’s that don’t get there way. Stinky shoes OK but sweetie balls ,come on. That tells me that they don’t know sweat from oil. You know what they say ,that there’s a BAD apple in every bunch.

If any bowling alley is truer to its name it’s Blue Ball Lanes. That’s exactly what I got, the women are all teases and the Mom’s like to smile when I hit the strikes, but don’t like it when I offer them beer. It’s not like I’m making their kids drink! The only good thing I can say is that you get what you pay for.

i love this place. hands down my favorite. out of all the centers within a 20-mile radius of me (bowling palace in downingtown, frazer lanes, phoenix lanes, and blue ball), i choose to drive out a half hour to blue ball. the entire staff is EXTREMELY friendly and accommodating; the center itself is kept practically spotless; they put down oil every night so you arent throwing on complete slop; shane, who runs the pro shop, is very helpful with anything youd need; and they have dollar-game specials at least 3 times a week (5 days a week during the summer!). this is a really great place to bowl.

Pro Shop was first class! I had to buy a new bowling ball and the fella there was great (I wish I got his name). I highly recommend his services. He knows what he is doing.
Blue Ball Lanes are great. They take care of the lanes and obviously make them favourable for Professionals and league bowlers.
This isn’t really a gripe, but when I bought my new ball, I took time to practice to make sure the ball was okay. Well, they charged me for the game. I guess that is business, but after paying $175.00 for a ball, I would have hoped I could practice a game without being charged.
Oh well. Something the establishmend should think about. That being said, go to Blue Ball. Great lanes and a good time.

This place was a big disappointment. I will not be returning. The place was not clean and we received less than friendly service.

I bowl at BB Lanes. The people are nice and the prices are good. Promises have been made but broken though. Wish they would follow through with what they say. Need more effort to fill the teams so all teams are full. The junior program is the pits since no one is informed of what is going on. Papers should be sent home with the children since most younger kids forget to tell their parents about tournaments and activites. They need someone else in charge who knows what they are doing or else get someone to help out who is organized.

Comment Date: 2/21/2007 Name: Amber
I work for Micki and at that bowling center. It is the most amazing job anyone could ever have. Micki is the best employer around. I work behind the snack counter during the winter season and when we have tournaments come through we are not only fully prepared but we always get told we are the staff that has the most fun during tournaments. Micki always cleans from top to bottom before the center opens every single day. If something were to happen to someone ball she will make sure its fixed at little to no cost. And we always have great turn outs. Sundays are dollar bowling and we always get alot of people and she can always handle it. We also have a large amount a great bowlers who bowl there. I would never ever ever go to another center.

I’ve never been to Blue Ball Lanes but I knew and worked with Michele Woods-Killin for many years at Berks Lanes in Sinking Springs, PA. Any place that Micki is in charge of has to one of the best bowling establishments around. Her dedication was outstanding and her committment to youth bowling was not to be topped. Nice to know she’s still doing her part to keep good bowling alive and fresh.

To be honest, the bowling alley is nasty needs to be better taken care of, the owner or manager or what ever he is, is rude not friendly and needs to learn people skills and i’m just putting that the nice way ive seen him a few times being very rude and nasty to costomers and you cant run a buisness with someone like that running the place but that its an alright place but id rather go to laurel lanes more of a clean inviroment and everyone there is very friendly and dont treat people like crap and holler and scream at the all the way out the door to there care like at the sequim alley but im not saying anymore

As bad as it gets. Lanes break down all the time, staff is generally less than friendly. Balls repeatedly get stuck, no matter how often you wipe your ball off. Lanes are never properly oiled…just a bad experience overall. Used to be a nice family bowling center, until the original owner died and the new owner became more occupied with turning the place into a nightclub. Sad really.

The previous poster cannot be more wrong and incorrect about the staff or this center. As a frequent patron of this center I know for a fact that the center has been updated since the 80s and continuously so. The staff is always presentable and courteous and friendly. This staff is the hardest working bunch I have ever seen.

I recently visited this place when I got a free game of bowling coupon, needless to say I wont be visiting here anytime soon. This facility is outdated and have been needed of upgrades since the mid 80’s. Staff appeared unkept themselves like the visual of this place is inside and out. Consumer beware this place is a “hole in the wall”. On the plus side Free games are a great idea. Keep up the ambition.

Dear “family”, maybe because Sparetime is better in the opinion of some people?

Comment Date: 6/26/2011 Name: Family
Just one question, why does Rainier Lane have only half a Star on their rating and Spare Time Bowl have four and a half Stars on their rating? Saw this on Bowling2u.com

Thanks for being open Sundsy for us. We enjoyed the service. We will be back.

Comment Date: 4/29/2011 Name: George
This place may be an older center but the help is the best around. If the economy was better I am sure they would have improvements done by now. By the way, peggysue, what is wrong with working another job? I heard the owner of this place is working for the state now and he plans on putting a boatload of money into this center. If I was you guys, Rainier, I would hold onto your hats because he is going to blow you away. They have the best service, the machines and scoring work fantastic and now with some extra cash for more improvement… WOW what a great thing for the harbor. Enjoy what you have for now. Oh, peggysue do you have a degree in analyzing businesses to determine weather or not they are fit for business? I don’t think so!

Comment Date: 4/29/2011 Name: peggysue
This place still isn’t fit for business matt

Comment Date: 4/28/2011 Name: Matt
I checked the web site and I do not see anywhere in the 1st paragraph or any paragraph that promotes bowling2u web site. I do, however, see wher they give credit to the bowling2u web site for the map and ask that people visit this site to leave comments about their center.

Comment Date: 4/18/2011 Name: Peggy Sue
Where is the proprietors head at? His website promotes bowling2u.com which is great but comments on how he got the pictures for his site from this website… this site obtains its photos from the proprietors in the first place, duh. As a matter of fact the first paragraph on his sparetime website is all about this site. Now if the crowells worked for bowling2u it would be understandable but im sure the owner is too busy making deliveries for carquest, so im sure hes not on staff. His focus is childish and below sub par. The truth is this place is not fit for business. Maybe if they werent so self absorbed on how important they think their names are, they would infact be capable of running a healthy worthwhile business. My timber dollars wont support this business structure thats for sure.

**Note** To clear up any confusion…While photos submitted to our website are usually from someone from a particular bowling center, Bowling2u.com created and added the map next to the photo. Also, Bowling2u.com has no employees who work for any bowling center. We are not affiliated with any bowling center in any way. B2U Staff**

You like sparetime congrats. On that note it doesnt matter what your opinion is. You know why rainier is the favorite? For the simple fact they have more amenities! Everything the sparetime owners touch becomes last place and exceeds in lower learning accomplishments. I hope sparetime stays open personally, someones gotta finish dead last.

this is a bowling center? we thought it was a daycare with a nice aquarium.

Comment Date: 4/15/2011 Name:  worth your sparetime..not!
This place is outdated like a 1950’s bomb shelter. This is a candy bar under the water, no matter what you say or do it still looks like a turd. The lanes need redone. Its too dark inside. Godbless this site, so we can share the truth about eyesores like this dive

Comment Date: 4/15/2011 Name: Bill
😮 must be jealous of this place. Hard to beat a true family center where kids can be kids and everything works! That is why they are still in business. They put money where it needs to be so it will operate correctly and not into some loser of a coffee stand and chessy glow golf, hehe!! Be jealous, keep posting untruths. The locals know where to go to get treated right. I bowl here for that reason.

Hello. I do not own a business so please tell me who iam smarty pants. Also I do not have any hate, that would require caring and well sparetime is weak sauce so I dont care. you should feel privelaged this site gets the little action it does, without it youd have no life.

Comment Date: 3/13/2011 Name: The anti:)
Dear :), you really need to get a life. Its obvious who you are, you are fooling no one.
If you dont want to bowl at Sparetime, then don’t, its that simple, and those of us that do like Sparetime will keep going there. To trashtalk a small family owned business just to make your own business look better is weak sauce and small minded. Like someone else said, if you take care of your own business and do things the right way you wont have to worry about your competition, it really is as simple as that.
I dont get where all of your hate is coming from.
I’ve always been treated right at Sparetime, and thats why I’ll keep going back.

Nobody cares what you think. I live in aberdeen so i choose rainier. I would bowl in hoq. If i lived there. Ha and if rainier lanes was located in hoq. But its not. Im a patron, and i use my common sense when i spend my money. You talk about equal, ha your blind and have no common sense.

Comment Date: 2/23/2011 Name: out of towner, in the biz for a long time
Hey Rainier guys, why would anyone want to go to your center when you have to slander another center??? If you took care of business and did things right you wouldnt have to worry about what ANY of your competetion is doing. Been to both places in the past and both were pretty equal in my eyes, but the BS statements from your side would make me not want to go to your center.

I checked the other places Bowling2u comment page. They must be worse than this center because they don’t even have a picture of what that “Dead Stinky Fish” (as one poster stated) looks like inside. Maybe they are so ashamed that they don’t want anyone to know. I will stand by previous post. This place is the better place! Oh, so the owner works another day job. So what. Really. No really.

Comment Date: 2/12/2011 Name: 🙂
Dear Greg, we would take your word for it unfortunately sparetime put a picture up so everyone can see how unfresh and ghetto it is. At the end of the day theres nothing good To say about this place. Maybe if perry (owner) spent less time on the pc he wouldnt have to work at carquest to keep sparetimes doors open like hes doing.

Comment Date: 2/10/2011 Name: Greg
This place is so much better than the other place. Help is great and the place is clean. Bowled 4 games with no problems. No s*cking sounds at this centers. Previous poster must have thought they were on the other centers comment page.

Hey U R A REJECT,
Just look at your name. That says a lot! And you also state a correct fact, “Sparetime has no competition”, that is true. You cannot beat the service and work that they do for you when you go to bowl there. Maybe you give them a try and then you would see why they are still operating and your place is going down…

Comment Date: 1/18/2011 Name: u r a reject
It hilarious that a new addition for family enjoyment hits the harbor and is popular you guys try to slander it. Sparetime has no competition because it has no class. Your worthless comments wont pursued readers to go to your establishment over another. Rainier wins best of the harbor every year! You guys are outcasts. Do us a favor and continue to enjoy your bowling alley because the rest of the harbor wont.

Comment Date: 1/15/2011 Name: Family Friend
SpareTime bowl is a true bowling ally when they see something is wrong or if someone is having troubles their there to help no matter what they are doing. Their lanes aren’t falling apart like Aberdeens and their machines work. Plus Sparetime has ALL of their lanes and didnt replace 4 or 5 of them for stupid GLOWGOLF! Crowells keep up the good work, You are a very good bowling center and keep it clean with great food!!

I read the sour comments and feel sorry that they relate to a wonderful family operation this way. The crowells put their heart and soul in this operation and make it work. Spare time does not need these silver spoon spoiled brats in their business model.. X

Comment Date: 11/21/2009 Name: A friend of the Crowell’s
This site should not let a comment like that get posted. Realizing that the monitors do not know that the fine folks that operate this fine center have a last name of Crowell I will give them the benifit of the doubt and let them fix it.
I will be checking back next week, hopefully thing will be changed. Business must not be very good at the competitions place in Aberdeen.
Must be very sad that you cannot compete with the excellent service that the Crowell’s give to their customers, Oh, I almost forgot, the machines and scoring work there too. No problems at all, jealous? You should be, they are a hard act to beat! A true family center!!!

The only place that is a cold sore is that place across town during the winter. So damn cold couldn’t hold onto my bowling ball. To cheap to pay the heating bill.
I, too like the wheel of bargains. If you actually bowled there you would know what the heck the wheel of bargains was.
Why don’t you take your star ship and warp drive to a planet not yet explored instead of calling names on good honest working centers like SpareTime. I too like SpareTime over the other place. No comparison! Sorry Capt. but that the truth.

Moved from the harbor and happy I did; however, I still miss this place… one of the only places left with a REAL family atmosphere and GREAT customer service. The owners of this place do what they do because they love it and care about the people who bowl there, they are not open so they can treat others like they are better them, discriminate to others, and serve minors….in 20 years we’ll see what you all have to say then….

Comment Date: 7/3/2008 Name: A Star A Star
Looks like a fine bowling center. That doesn’t look like a Circus. Side shows don’t run the Circus, a Ring Master does. Sounds like all they need would be some Clowns, maybe you should apply, then they would have a Great Show.
By the way, it is not Christmas. (Do you see what I see)

Just because somebody else is having a great season and has worked hard at his game doesn’t mean you have to put him down at every chance you get.

Thanks Bill. I am glad someone has enough backbone to leave their name.
What a bunch of balony those other posts are. Like we are a dump and I need permission to place my signs at my buddys place of employment. I don’t believe that is “Bush” league to me. I would call that opportunistic!
BTW, I fail to see where that post should be on this site because it has nothing to do with the rating of our center. It is someones view of where I should or should not place league sign up signs. Last time I checked this is America which is a Free country with free enterprise. As long as people have permission to place signs on other peoples property they may do so. So if you think that is bush league so be it. As I stated above, this is America and you are entitled to your opinion.

I din’t know what center you are talking about. Sparetime is not a dump. It is a well kept older center that has “wood” lanes that are maintained correctly. If you are used to that other stuff yopu might have trouble bowling at this center…but you know how to adjust this is a very high scoring center.
Oh, by the way I have enough guts to sign my name,

I invite anyone who reads this to visit our center to see for themselves. Print out this page and bring with you for “One free game with one paid”. You need at least two game to see for yourself how well our machines work and to adjust to our lane conditions. We do condition with a Kustodian machine with the suggested pattern for our lane surface.
I also know that most of these posts are from employees and owners relatives of the other centers in our area. To those folks our response is this: We have been in operation for 21 years as of this posting, we have a very loyal bowler base. That is how we have survived 3 owners of the place across town in the last 8 years. Obviously we must be doing something right or we would be out of business. It is nice to know that you are loyal to your place of employment. I doubt that posting negative comments about our center on this will have an impact our business at this time.
I will check back to see if anyone have a response and the backbone to post their real names.

Sounds like SpareTime Is exercising capital spent on advertiseing! Something Rainier Fails to do that I’ve noticed around the Harbor! That doesnt sound to “Bush League” to me! ….
Bush league Def. Bush league is a general term used to describe an action or thing as being amateur, inferior or crude.
Having seen the prior post, I hope this person doesnt attempt to operate a business! Im sure his company would be subject for the pictures on the Meth, “The DownWard Spiral” For businesses.
