I’ve bowled here back when it was still wood lanes and the ball return stretched all the way to the foul line. I just bowled here recently in Feb 2016 and I was kind of disappointed.
I was getting a few games in before a 6pm league was supposed to start, hopeful that there would be an oil pattern resembling league play to practice on. Turns out there was absolutely no oil on the lanes what so ever. I asked local staff and their answer was that they “oiled last night” and no intention of re-oiling before the league got in.
I felt bad for the people who paid to bowl in that league coming in after I left.

Garwood Lanes is disgusting. It’s not clean, the staff is nasty, and they have ZERO people skills with ZERO customer service. Recently attended a child birthday party there, where the “party hostess” was a disgruntled, and nasty. Not only that – she didn’t even HELP with the party. Garwood Lanes needs to be put to rest. Linden is a great house, with great customer service. Greenbrook Lanes is nice as well. Too bad for Garwood Lanes. It could be a successful place if it was being run like a professional business. Remember – customer comes 1st. NOT LAST.

Nice little place. Very clean, well kept. Synthetic lanes, well worth the price. Great staff too. This place reminds me a lot of Slocums. Just wish the hallway leading from street to lanes wasn’t so darn narrow!!!! check it out!!!!!!

Overall I come to Garwood because it close to home but best believe when I’m up for a drive I go elsewhere. This place is very small (more for parties or just to go to go) One day this week it was so hot in thier I asked the bartender for a cup of ice and he asked ‘for what?’ I told him because it was hot in thier he then said ‘we dont give out ice.’ I asked him if he wanted me to buy the cup of ice he said they dont just give out cup with ice. Can you believe that? Unbelieveable… I called to complain to the owner but he’s never there. Go figure but I guess it explains why the staff is that way; they dont know the importance of customer satisfaction. Jesus I didn’t ask for a lot just a few cubes BECAUSE IT WAS HOT!!!!!!!

this is the greatest bowling place to go just to have a good time with friends, or have birthday…..Its very cheap also the workers are nice and help you as soon as possible.. the one and only thing is that they only have 8 lanes but “its great and worth the wait” also they have like this 12 year old working there on sunday and the kid is the WORST….. but everything else is great..Also if garwood has a wait DO NOT GO TO LINDEN LANES the workers are total {deleted}!!

I love “The Lanes” nothing beats a night out there. The staff is incredibly friendly and the prices are very reasonable. And its the only bar i know of that gives you every fourth drink free. It really is the best in Jersey!

Great place to bowl, have fun, or chill out. Lots of people to meet, the staff are super nice, and I hear they’re doing karaoke on some occasions. Bar is small, but basically suitable. LOTS of TVs! Great place to bowl with the kids and family.

Aside from all the Met fans, the place is a diamond in the rough.

Turnersville Bowling Alley is the best around. It’s clean and the people who work there are always ready to help if you have a question or problem. They have put in a new game room that’s awesome. My family wants to go every chance we get.

Comment Date: 4/10/2014 Name: Cindi M.
This is the best bowling alley in the area. My family loves it. Cleaner with knowledgable staff. It’s the only place my family wants to bowl at.

Comment Date: 4/13/2012 Name: Tammy F.
I recently attended a fund-raising party at Turnersville. It was a ton of fun and very organized. They had room for Chinese Auction Baskets and a raffle items. The alley people were very helpful and seemed to have done many fund-raising events in the past. They knew what they were doing to organize the large group. What a great way to raise funds for any organization.

My family recently visited the Brunswick Turnersville. It was a Saturday afternoon and very very busy. They did have a wait but they worked hard to move things along to get us on an ally.
My children have never bowled before and thought it was great that they could do it with Mommy and Dad. Someone came to the table and pointed out a way to receive coupons by getting on their website along with a Club for children. Since then, I have done just that and enjoy great coupons making it more affordable to have a family outing. Bowling is truly something all ages can do together. We love it!

Comment Date: 3/20/2012 Name: Mindy
My daughter attended a Birthday Party at the Turnersville location. The party was great! We had a hostess who took care of everything. All I had to do was watch the kids have fun and talk to the other adults. My husband had a beer..so he was happy too. My daughter still talks about her party. Thank you Turnersville Brunswick..we will be back!

Comment Date: 12/16/2011 Name: David V.
My 8 year old son was invited to a Birthday Party in November. He had so much fun, he had never bowled before. He isn’t the most athletic kid, he did great. Since then, we have found coupons in the ValuePak and on the Brunswick website. My family has found bowling to be something we can do together as a family. The place is always clean and the staff friendly, over worked perhaps but they seem to be doing the best they can. I would suggest Turnersville Bowling Alley for family entertainment and just plain old fashioned fun.

My kids and I have bowled here on several occasions this summer. Though at times I’ve felt the customer service could use some improvement, our most recent visit was when I decided we wouldn’t be going back. Something must have happened for who I believe to have been the owner to flip out on one of the employees unfortunately out on the lanes, hollering and swearing. It left me wondering if that had anything to do with the overall level of customer service there. I’ll not expose my kids to such a place, ever.

Comment Date: 7/19/2011 Name: Bill E
Over priced and customer service needs improvement!!

Comment Date: 5/23/2011 Name: Brian S,
I bowled there this past weekend in AC chellenge tournmant, the shot was awesome. If I didn’t live so far I’d go more often, place is very well kept and machines run smoothe there. The approaches are synthetec but I actually talk with the head mechanic who was buffing them and they make it a point to do that daily. I always been a fan of the wood approaches, I like to slide. and some synthetecs come close but sometimes you always stick. to me the approches felt really good and I bowled great. I will definitely recommend this center to anyone who want to work on their game.

Our family went to the Turnersville Bowling Alley over the past weekend. We did have coupons from their bowlbrunswick.com website. We were there during the black light show in the afternoon. It was a blast. Our children had never bowled before and my husband and I bowled with the bumpers. It was a great way to interact with our children. I do suggest using their website for the discounts. We will be back for more fun over the summer months.

Comment Date: 5/12/2011 Name: Sharon T.
I recommend the Brunswick Turnersville location. As with any busniness that has young people employeed, there can be “bumps”. However, I have always found them doing their best. When the place is busy..I’m sure it is hard to accomodate everyone’s needs. So…as customers we need to wait our turn like everywhere else. I also see no signs of drama amoung the employees. If you have never been there, do try it. It is a wonderful place for families to enjoy. The website they have generates coupons makinging it affordable in today’s tough economy.

Comment Date: 3/15/2011 Name: old timer
Ive been bowling here for years. Your best bet is to go bowling in morning mid afternoon. That is when the better staff is working and they know how to treat people. If you go at nights or the weekends you get the worst service and the most unprofessional staff, they are all a joke. But Ill will keep s*cking it up because I love bowling and this center is close to where I live.

Comment Date: 3/14/2011 Name: Lori
Not sure what the drama is about posted below. When my friends and I came bowling over the weekend, there was no sign of the behind the scene drama. It was busy, we had coupons from the internet that made our visit affordable and enjoyable. They even have Onion Rings now! Our experience is a good one each time we visit Brunswick Zone Turnersville.

Comment Date: 3/7/2011 Name: The Smith Family
I don’t understand the bickering here, this is not the forum to express your topics. As as a customer who has recently visited the Alley, we had a fabulous time. We found the employee’s extrememy accomodating even though it was very busy. Every one was polite and even told us how to receive coupons so we may visit more often. For anyone thinking of going bowling, this is the place to go.
Enjoy..

i never claim to be the head mechanic at this bowling alley nor do i want to be i leave that for matt to try and run that bunch of cry babbies and for those of you who think i got fired well your wrong i quit becuase the hours did not fit for me the over night hours and the sleeping during day took away hours from my duties as a father and that always comes first to me so say what ever you want i could careless because im above you Hey matt good luck and sorry that things didnt work out we could of gotten alot of things changed around for the better like we talked about

Comment Date: 2/22/2011 Name: Bowling For Health!
I for one think Turnersville does a wonderful job keeping the place up to par. My friends and I have been league bowling at a couple of different centers in remote area for many years, as bowling has always been more of a passion of ours than an activity. That is the way I feel the staff views their jobs. I have know the mechanic there for many years, and tasks about the place are carried out with high standards and excellence. The desk staff has always been friendly and courteous to us. The building is ALWAYS CLEAN; in my travels I’ve come across quite an array of conditions — some pristine, some struggling to keep the place in order; Turnersville does a fine job. The lanes run tip top in my opinion with the occassional calls well within the normal means of the sport. The shot is very playable and scorable, and fresh every morning as well as again before my night leagues. Overall a very friendly enviornment to enjoy this great sport.
Whatever your complaint is, I’m not seeing it.

I would like to clear up this issue,This person never stole anything from me,and was also one of the only people that i could rely on. So can you please just back off and leave this person alone.
It upsets me to see people talk down torward this person when said person went above and beyond for my center.

You’re English is pretty terrible. How did anyone ever give Napoleon here a job. Everything that I’ve stated earlier is true and you know it. You’re the one who has to live with yourself and at the end of the night I guess you’re okay with yourself. No matter who you have ripped off because you must have deserved it for something godly that you did on a machine.

You guys just hired probably one of the worst people you could. Don’t let him near the registers or safe unless you guys want to go bankrupt. Also, buy some step ladders so he can reach the machines.

About a year ago I was down in AC & found this huge center out by itself at the end of a group of malls. Wow what a nice center! Nice Proshop, Clean-Clean-Clean! I spoke with a person named Tom who I belive was the head mechanic. Very nice person & knowledgable too! I think this must be the jewel of all the Brunswick Houses in the area. All I can say is, if you happen to be a bowler and are in this area – Go! And tell them Tom sent you! 5 out of 5.

This place must have the only lanes around that don’t have workable foul line sensors. How can they do that?

Comment Date: 1/13/2012 Name: S. Johnson
It was great to read Jim’s posting about Curtis Lanes and it sure brought back many fond memories. Just like him, I have been out of bowling for several years now but that’s just because I am old and retired! =) I bowled at Curtis from the 1970’s through the late 90’s and along with making many friends, I bowled with and against many great bowlers. Along with the bowlers that Jim mentioned on here, I remember facing other great bowlers such as Rich Pallay, Fran Andreas, Paul DeUmberto, Sonny Reed and back then, young guys like Bob Bail, Paul Carlisi and then there was Norm Titus who could be seen practicing there EVERY afternoon. Curtis Lanes hosted many great leagues and tournaments such as the 80 TEAM (yes, I said 80 teams) Holy Name League which I believe still exists to this day but not nearly as big or as competitive. Then, there was the Mercer County Majors League on Sunday nights which showcased the county’s best bowlers and ya can’t forget the TGIF League which is still going strong to this day! As far as tournaments go, the professionals came to town for the PBA Tour Great Adventure Open back in the late 70’s and for the local guys, there was always the Trenton Times and Trentonian tournaments which were always a blast! I remember a night in the late 80’s/early 90’s when Fran ran a 8 or 10 game scratch marathon tournament and a guy by the name of Rudy “Revs” Kasimakis came down from New York to bowl (and I believe win) the tournament. If anyone is familiar with the PBA Tour or “action bowling”, Rudy Revs was a great money bowler back in the 80’s and 90’s with an arm swing that left people speechless! It was a great treat to watch a bowler of his caliber in our local house! Who else has any Curtis Lanes stories? I’d sure love to hear some!

Comment Date: 12/9/2011 Name: Jim Ianni
I’m living in Fairless Hills PA, but I basically grew up at Curtis. Lived across Scotch Rd in Fleetwood Village, so I was here EVERY day. Curtis was an awesome place to bowl, hang, eat (Jean Ferdetta was always so nice) and work. Curtis was my first real job. I was a pin chaser for a few years, worked the desk occasionally, helped out in the pro shop (when Russ owned the place and also when Fran owned it) and even cleaned the place in the mornings before they openned for a while. I bowled here back in the day as well and was pretty good (wouldn’t say great, but I did win the summer sweeps one year) and picked up a lot of my style and bowling knowledge from the guys back then. Most of them are listed on the wall of fame such as Bill Shaw, Gary Bondarchuck, Russ Campbell, Rick Jackson as well as guys like Mike Hart, Scott Yates and both Ferdetta brothers Al and Dave.
I’m just getting back into bowling after about 13 years so I stopped in Curtis today to pick up some lunch and see if any of my old donated balls are still on the racks. The parking lot has potholes, but I think those are the same ones that Mr Curtis never fixed either, so I chuckled at that. I walked in to see all the names on the board in the lobby then walked into the lanes. All the lockers are gone from where they used to be and the backs are more open with open ball racks. The front desk is still in the same spot and I couldn’t believe it, but Timmy Thompson is still working the desk! She’s been there since I was a kid! I would have talked to her, but was on lunch from work so I didn’t announce who I was. The place looks like a bowling alley, just dark enough yet not dreary and dirty as others here have suggested. The lanes look remarkably good especially considerring age, and there is no substitute for a good wood lane or pin deck either.
They look to be the same pinsetter machines, which can be a bear to maintain with 40 lanes, but when those machines are maintained, they are the best…I know it is a LOT of work though. The issue when I worked there was the ball returns not the pinsetters that would eat balls, looks like those have been replaced though…might just be newer covers, I don’t know.
The pro shop, which wasn’t open at 12:30pm looks pretty nice now since Chuck South took over just before I left the sport 13 years ago. I will be visiting there for 2 redrills and resurfaces at a later date, so I’ll comment then.
I did get a Bacon Burger from Naticchia’s Grill which was another surprise as I’m pretty sure the guy who made my lunch was Dave Naticchia who was a couple years older than me but also grew up in Fleetwood Village. Needless to say, his burger was indeed better than the one I got from 5 Guys last week. They are pricey, but the food is good!
I will be back here to bowl soon!!!!!!

Ahhh, am I the only one who senses some possible ‘self promoting’ on this website? I find it quite odd that this thread received a posting once every several months yet on 6/14/11 we have 2 posts about the same topic. One of which praises the tireless efforts of Mr. Cody at Curtis Lanes and the very next post is by none other than this fella himself. Makes ya wonder, eh? lol

Sure, I am not a fan of potholes, but big deal. I prefer the ambiance of Curtis to the crappy boring disco newness of a place like Brunswick Lanes way north on rt 1. How can people waste their time at a place like that. I don’t go bowling expecting high class anyway. Get real. I enjoy the working class retro grit. The wood floors at Curtis are soooooooooooo much better than that synthetic crap you get at the ever crappy Lawrenceville bowling alley which is far seedier and is always in need of the perpetual rennovations that seems to keep it closed half the time. The staff at Curtis has always been friendly and helpful. New Years Eve bowling was a blast. The price is right; a few hours of bowling for a family should cost $30, not $75. The fries are fantastic. I’ve been in worse bathrooms. Sure, some money could be put into cleaning the place up, but times are tough. I pray they never get rid of the wooden lanes – I drive 25 miles to bowl there because my local bowling alley is just clean, small, synthetic, expensive, and boring, despite its investment in disco lighting. If Curtis replaced the wood with synthetic, I would indeed stop bowling there. But as it is now, I will stay loyal to Curtis.

I bowl here a lot and I love the place. I’ve been reading these comments and laughing at how people think its so easy to run a 40 lane center. Slocums and papps and smaller centers are easier to maintain than bigger bowling centers. The blonde kid cody that works there does a lot at curtis. He cleans, works the desk, oils the lanes, runs in the back when a ball gets stuck or a lane breaks down. He’s also pretty nice to the customers and knows a lot by name which is always a plus. I will continue to bowl at curtis and spend my money where I know it is worth spending. Which is one of the cheapest and best centers I’ve ever bowled at.

They welcome the Special Olympics Tournament and the food is GREAT. We love Curtis Bowling Alley!

Frankly, it is a great place to bowl leagues, everything works, and there is PLENTY OF ROOM to move around and be comfortable. The lanes are good and the heat and a/c work. Scoring is usually very high here. The carpet in the bowling area is worn and the side walls are ugly. The food place closes too early, although a little expensive its pretty good. I Bowled at Curtis Suburban Lanes many years ago also. It was darker then. Although its was cool when the crowns lit up. All and all its a good safe place to bowl.

yo, curtis is not so bad. No, maybe its not the best kept, and slocums is cleaner but they also cost more and its way too small which is annoying. so i dont think its really fair to always compare curtis to slocums. Colonial and hamilton ,however, they’re totally different animals. they both have limited hours – colonial opens most days in late afternoon, and at least 2 days hamilton is completely closed and only open for special private groups. Not curtis!! they’re open in mornings. Hopefully Curtis will outlast the other 2 places, not to wish bad on them though. Even with curtis wood lanes, it still runs circles around the 2 others which are both cynthetic (and i’m more of a synthetic person). curtis also has up to date scoring unlike the other 2 which are so old they barely work . incidentally the 2 big ol tv’s are gone and now theirs a flat-screen. yes the shot is easy but BE GRATEFUL!!! Not all off pocket hits carry (unlike at Brunswick zones) – splits can happen, and pins still have sturdy bottoms though theyre a year old. best of all games are still $2 til 4pm!!! I don’t know if Naticchias grill still has bad hours (for nite leagues) but if u want a good burger for a better price, go to Ewing diner rite around corner after bowling. You think trash in parking lot is bad here- go look at colonial, and the graffiti on hamilton rusty tin can building is worse!! I do however agree that curtis needs better inside lighting. but the old lady is nice and is quite amazing- she said she was there all 50 years its been open, and that up until 10 years ago it had above ground ball racks and no computer scoring. wow! she also watches and cheers on the bowlers. they should post the old pictures of the place for all to see. and a shout out to my boy cody!!!peace

I have never gone to or plan on going to Curtis lanes based on what I hear. My father says when he use to bowl there in the 70’s and 80’s it was amazing. Now I drive by and don’t even want to be seen there.

I pulled into the parking lot last week and was afraid because of poor lighting, trash, potholes. I went inside and the bowling alley was equally dark and ominous. I decided to pass on bowling for the evening and went home to walk my dog instead. Curtis is in need of major renovations!

I practiced at Curtis before the Mercer Master Tourny. It’s not a bad place.Way too easy of shot.I only payed 1.50 a game from 5-6pm.I averaged 225 at the Tourny and didn’t qualify.I like wood lanes but,the oil pattern isn’t tough enough. If your looking for numbers bowl here!

Well, despite my over-reacting on the previous post about the few major problems, Curtis lanes otherwise is great. the $2 games on weekdays are the real draw. i wish it was closer to home!! the lanes may be wood and maybe not in the greatest of shape but look alright to me. I’ve seen much worse!! the bathrooms are fine, the masking pictures are pretty and eye-pleasing. whats interesting is u can walk down the aisle along the lanes and peek into a window and watch the machinery at work, awesome!. thats the only bowling alley i know of that has that!! the pin action is great and the oil pattern is good too. not too little or too much oil. with a little tlc work on the machinery to break it of its bad occasional pin & ball chewing habits, (and take it thru dog obedience training school), i see no reason why the pros cant come back here for the great adventures tournament (from 1977). the staff is great, including the older lady and Cody. keep on sk8in n bmx’n Cody!!!!

Comment Date: 1/30/2010 Name: sk8ersbus1
I have mixed feelings about Curtis. the staff for the most part is fine. the pro shop guy was nice as well, and knowlegeable. very nice people to talk to. i like the fact it has fairly new brunswick masking plates, ball returns, seating and computers . and it certainly runs circles around hamilton lanes, also a 40-laner which is a complete dump- dont get me started on that!! but i heavily agree with Mercer county bowler and the many complaints. i’m glad the price during weekdays is $2 til 4. (its like paying only 99 c 15 years ago.) but otherwise its kinda run down. it certainly aint worth $4 games it otherwise charges; the lanes look shot as well as the building. the pinsetters are the worst part of all. i saw a lot of their old reject pins and many have been gouged and cut by machine parts. that seems to indicate either lack of proper maintenance, or maybe their just simply developing junkyard fever. not just isolated occurences either. i also heard numerous complaints about similar damage done to balls (go figure). so like dumpy pike lanes i highly discourage ANYONE from using brand new balls there – i sure dont!!! they should yank out those HORRIBLE pin-UPsetters and put em out to pasture. and replace with used refurbished ones. their NOT suppose to be dogs, and pins are NOT bones for PETES sake!!!!!!! But i was told if they did put in new pinsetters , because their a lot bigger, they have to bust out the back wall to do it. WHAT??? i’m sure there must be used brunswick a2 machines identical to these available on line. i’d hate to see irate bowlers abandon curtis in favor of better maintained places like slocums because of destroyed balls. if it werent for the fact slocums is in a tight residential neighborhood, preventing a significant expansion, curtis would’ve been in deep dukey by now!! But hopefully NOT!! i see plenty of potential for curtis. its great they have the new brunswick stuff. but PLEASE take better care of pinsetters and replace them as necessary. and try to doctor up the outside- it looks real rundown. GHETTO!! certainly if u can afford to buy new pins a lot due to premature unwarranted abuse from GARBAGE pinsetters, then i’d like to see the place cleaned up as well. granted, of course bowling balls may beat up pins but not like that!!! a round object hitting another round object does NOT result in gouges, belt burns or shaving the plastic off around the neck area. ABSURD!! otherwise i hope curtis hangs tuff and knock em dead!!! it is NOT impossible to restore it to a leading area house it once was. i have faith in you!!! at least curtis doesnt have a mean, surly, arrogant scoundrel for an owner who thinks he can get a head by burning down the competition. having the integrity to refrain from stooping so low as to commiting such unspeakable abomination is important!!! finally, despite my venting about the machines, thanks a lot for the old out-of-service pins. they’ll be put to good use, i’m sure. in the future, theres a website called done rite (google it) that specializes in resurfacing and repair of such pins, and save u lots of $$$ , hope it helps!!! good luck. later!!!!!!

Mr Curtis was a nice guy. To bad his son was a screw up. His father would have loved to let him run the place. From what I here it’s turned into a dive… to bad. My father used to maintain the machines for Mr Curtis. He started there back in the 60’s and continued until the place was sold to the new owners. Apparently they thought they could do the preventive maintenace themselves… Nice joke, nobody ever maintained a Brunswick machine better than my father. He still doing to this day, and he’s 74. I used to help my faher in the summertime, my initials and a date are on every part I ever repaired or replaced. Without well running machines it’s only a matter of time before the place vanishes for good. What a shame…

Curtis Suburban Lanes USED to be one of the premier bowling centers in the area. Throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s, Curtis hosted many of the top bowling leagues and tournaments in the state of New Jersey. The Mercer County Majors was the most competitive league around and the Holy Name League which consisted of 80 teams was by far, the largest league in the area, if not the entire state. In 1977, Curtis Lanes also hosted a PBA summer stop (the Great Adventure Open).
Unfortunately, the “glory days” of Mercer County bowling and in particular at Curtis Lanes; are long gone! The current owners, who purchased the center approximately 15 years ago really need to invest some more time and money into this center! Aside from putting out an “easy” condition which favors bowlers who “like em’ when they hook”, there aren’t many other positive aspects about this place!
The outside of this bowling center needs some serious cleaning up (as does the insides, but I’ll get to that in a minute). The condition of the parking lot is a disaster with pot holes everywhere, not to mention trash everywhere. Aside from the two “ashtrays” which are out front, the outer perimeter of this facility is disgusting! There have been many nights where I have seen garbage, countless cigarette butts and beer bottles laying on the ground outside the back door (facing the Mercer County library).
The actual business sign to this place seems to be the original sign which was installed in the early 1960’s! If they were going for the “retro look” the sign would fit in great but unfortunately, that is not the case here!
Now, on to the interior of this bowling center .. aside from the Brunswick scorers/ball returns (many of which are cracked or broken), masking units, score tables/counters and stained carpet which were all installed when the owners purchased the center; there has been very little moderization here! The WOOD lanes are still the original lanes which were installed in the 1960’s. The interior design/decoration is basically circa 1960’s as well!
They used to have a small bar located on the concourse which is never used anymore but instead, there are 2 large screen televisions which look like they might have been picked up at a flea market or yard sale sitting on top. Looks very trashy if you ask me!
In my opinion, the Pro Shop is a joke. Back in the 1970’s and 1980’s, Curtis Lanes actually had one of the premier pro shops in Mercer County. Although it changed hands a few times, each of the pro shop operators were all highly regarded among local bowlers. Currently, I’m not sure if they lease the Pro Shop out or actually run it themselves, but I would be embarassed to own a bowling center with a pro shop that looks like the one at Curtis Lanes! Sure, there is a limited amount of bowling equipment on display but aside from that, it looks like a storage room/a bowler’s personal locker room! The pro shop operator might do a fine job at laying out and drilling bowling equipment, but just like with the rest of the bowling center, a little TLC and modernization is needed.
Next order of business would be the restrooms. Beware, if you do have to use the restrooms which are located down alongside of lane #1; do not wear your bowling shoes in there! The bathrooms are filthy and the floors are usually extremely wet! Aside from the obvious lack of cleanliness, these bathrooms are also in need of a serious upgrade!
The “restaurant” which is called Naticchia’s Grille is more like a luncheonette rather than a restaurant. I believe this is sub-leased and not operated by the owners of Curtis Lanes but I will say that the menu prices are extremely high! I will say that the few items in which I have tried are pretty decent, by no means should a bowling center luncheonette have prices comparable to Applebee’s or TGI Fridays! I don’t care how good the burgers are, but close to costing $10 for a burger, fries and the fixings is pretty expensive for bowling center fare! My other complaint with Naticchia’s Grille aside from their steep prices is their hours of operation. I personally bowl 2 nights each week at Curtis, and unlike other centers in the area which have food available when the bowlers are finished with leagues, food is NOT available once the leagues are over. This does not make sense whatsoever!! Myself and my teammates are forced to go to another area restaurant (usually Slocum’s Bowling Center & Grille which is open) after we bowl since we can not eat at Curtis. Pretty silly is you ask me! One would think that the owners would want the business but I suppose not!
The last thing in which I will review is the bar. The bar at Curtis is fairly large and has alot of potential if the desire was there by the owners to increase business. For some crazy reason, they do NOT offer draft beer and in fact, Curtis Lanes never has offered it since it has been in business. As far as I know, unlike other bowling centers in the area; they also do not have any form of entertainment such as DJs or bands. Other than having a few televisions, the bar at Curtis Lanes is far from being a Mercer County “hot spot” unlike the Firkin Tavern around the corner, Wildflowers, Slocum’s Bowling Center & Grille or the All Call Inn.
In conclusion, my opinion of Curtis Lanes is that it is in dire need of some cleaning, modernization and initiative from the current owners. If you are a league bowler who likes a dry/easy condition to boost your ego, than Curtis is the place for you! If you are a family looking for a day/night out or someone in the “younger crowd”, you might want to try Slocum’s Bowling Center (a mile or 2 away) or Colonial Lanes (in Lawrence) which is rumored to have a major renovation coming up to become a state of the art bowling facility.
If I were to give an overall grade to this bowling center, I would have to place a C- tag on this place. My suggestion is to CLEAN the place up, spend some money on modernizing the center a little bit and for the love of god; the owner/management/employees definitely need a visit from Extreme Makeover. To say that their appearance is not professional is putting it lightly! It’s a business for Pete’s sake!

Curtis is an amazing place, it’s like my second family to me. The workers are always so pleasurable and the food is FANTABULOUS. My kids and I always come here for good clean and family fun. The prices can’t get any better..if your looking for some cheap foun that won’t burn a hole in your pocket come on down to Curtis!

out of the 4 bowling alleys in the area curtis is the best by far. Open bowling times never have oil anywhere you go but league play probly the best shot around. Good food and beer.

It’s a great place to go to hang out with friend. The lanes are not too great since balls always seem to get stuck. The food from the Diner is amazing, and the machines are not as expensive as other places in the area.

I think that Curtis Lanes is a pretty good place to have fun, if i’m having fun, than it’s a good place for me to be. I just went there for a family outing today and we stayed for two whole hours and I had a blast! It really is a good place for a family, or even a group of friends to go out and have some fun. It’s also cheap, so it’s good entertainment for the family and it was only $ 30.00 for 4 people today, that’s a pretty good deal when you’re going out for fun for two hours. Whereas if you’re going to the movies, it would be like $ 100.00, and when you go to the movies, you’re just looking at a screen and you can’t talk and goof around. But in a bowling ally, you can talk and goof around and just have a good time!

Nice place & cheap – but lanes are very dry. (My hook ball likes heavy oil). I come here to practice (Live in PA, work in NJ) I always do poorly here (124) and great back in PA (200+).

Well, they’re cheaper than Slocum’s and bigger too. Since I only know of two around here, Curtis wins.

I’m a youth bowler at ocean lanes and I honestly couldn’t ask for a better environment to learn the game, the staff is great, the people you bowl with are better. Compared to other alleys I’ve bowled at ocean is the nicest. It’s house shot is average, but the pins carry like crazy so it seems easier. They have all types of leagues for beginners, youth, and people that bring some serious game. Best alley in the area in my opinion

Comment Date: 3/20/2013 Name: Bowlalot
The lane conditions are very inconsistant. Some night they have too much oil and others there is barely any. The alley host some of the best bowlers I have seen and I am sure that the best bowlers from other houses would have a tough time against the bowlers at Ocean. Yes, some of the staff can be rude sometimes, but if you were dealing with some of the people coming into the alley, you to would have a slight attitude. The service at the snack bar stinks. Takes forever to get your order. The bar is a little expensive. Overall, I would have to rate the place a 5 out of 10. Average overall..

Comment Date: 3/18/2013 Name: Unhappy mother
Do not, repeat, DO NOT, throw your party here. It is horribly run and disorganized. The manager is not there on Sundays when they throw parties and refuses to have anyone there to make executive decisions in his place because he cannot have his employees running “willy nilly” but is not available for contact either. Horrible customer service and horrible way to run a business. I was very embarrased. Save yourself the HEADACHE.

I have been bowling at Ocean for some 8 years. Hadn’t bowled since I was a kid. Didn’t do very well despite the so-called easy lanes (120 average) Almost gave up the game. I’m in my 80’s baby. Then I decided to bowl more than once a week and work at it. Now working on 174 average. Same lanes, same people. I will be bowling in FL this winter, obviously at another alley. We’ll see if all those theories are correct. Incidentally I have always found Donna to be very helpful. Sometimes she get some character giving HER a hard time. I would get testy too if I had to deal with some of these people! The alleys are clean, well lit and the equipment is in pretty good shape. I don’t eat there, although at a recent bowling party, where their food was served I found it acceptable

Comment Date: 4/24/2012 Name: Average Guy
The house is average for house bowlers. The staff is average for bowling centers. The leagues have fallen to an all time low. The Friday Night leagues are out of control. The gambling and cursing is ridiculous. The old firemens league is a joke where people fight every week, (physically). The Ocean County Womens Bowling Association members are in the league and do nothing to maintain order or bring charges. They are all useless. My mother bowls in the league and will not return. She is over 65 and has to listen to women calling each other Dike, Bitch etc. Terrible. Jay, should do something.

haha, this is a thread/ forum where the crappy bowlers complain cause they can barely hit the head pin. this place is awesome. its cheap and you get a clean un-dungeon like environment. bang for your buck. you pay x2 at lakewood and howell and there poo holes. half the staff could use a attitude check or a kick in the a**

If you are a true bowler you understand there is no such thing as an easy house or shot. Every single time you bowl the conditions will be different. The oil patterns change quite often. Even bowlers that throw off the ditch sometimes have a hard time getting to the pocket and carrying. We should not take away from consistency and accuracy and understanding lane conditions and the proper equipment for each.

I’ve been bowling most of my life and since bowling in Ocean lanes, my average has gone up about 10 pins. I have yet to bowl a 300. I believe that maybe the other lanes people bowl at might be {deleted}. These lanes never seem to be the same conditions. I don’t think you could pin shave for 8 years and get away with it like these messages want to say. Those who can, do. Those who can’t, spectate and comment.

The first time I walked into this building I shot 750… Now something is wrong with that. This house really is too easy.So many kids who grew up bowling at ocean go to bowl in college and it is pathetic when they say they were a 210+ average and only hitting 150s. This house makes people think they are good. I shouldn’t be able to witness four 300s in one league night its disgusting.

talk about a nice bowling alley this place is only known for it’s high scores and series nothing special. takes forever to get your order at the snackbar i ordered cheese fries and 10 mins go by about 5 other ppl order coffee sandwitch etc i still have not got my cheese fries i was getting sick and tired of waiting the kid that works there just looks at me like for a few sec and myorder is almost done plus the black guy that works in there ate a frie that fell onto the stove from my plate and i was bout to leave it should not take that long to get french fries never ordering again and plus if you bowl on league there french fries screw you up that damm cooking oil and salt get to your hand

People that are saying there is pin shaving going on are most likley the ones that arent doing so well and are ticked off that other people are much more talented than them. You think its so easy to bowl a 300 on these lanes or a 700+ series then you go do it. Every time i go there the people that say anything like this are spectators and the people not bowling so good. Not everyone here bowls that good. There is just alot of talented bowlers that attend ocean lanes that come from all over. And i know alot of them that bowl 300’s here and 700+ series, and they bowl every night/day. Racking up somewhere over 21 games a week. And the funny thing is, is that they will go to other lanes and bowl the same as they do at ocean. Ocean is over all good lanes and good leagues. But there staff gets attitudes with everyone and anyone, which need inprovement expecially up at the front desk but besides that its an overall good bowling alley.

Comment Date: 3/12/2010 Name: sk8ersbus1
well, it seems to have better open bowling availability than lakewood lanes, which has nothing til late nite. ocean lanes is better priced too. 3.25 a game during day is not too shabby, and its kept much nicer/ cleaner than lakewood lanes too.

Comment Date: 10/18/2009 Name: GEO
When you think about Ocean Lanes you think, “here comes another 300 from some house bowler” well if you believe in that then you are absolutely correct about this bowling alley, besides the easy shot and the numerous honor scores, nothing is really special about this place. If you can play up the 10 board you will destroy your average. However people talk about Ocean as if its gods greatest creation to the bowling system. why is it that people are now interested in shooting high numbers when they do not have to even try. thats just my opinion.

Does he know enough so that he will wathc me roll a bowling ball and then judge on how to drill it from there? And finally, will i be satisfied going there.

Comment Date: 1/31/2009 Name: Bowler
Ocean lanes doesnt pin shave. They just host the best bowlers. This is proven when the kids go to tournaments and still bowl 700 series. Then you have kids who actually bowl three hundreds at other lanes. I am a bowler in a high school league and Ive seen kids from my league bowl above their average at other lanes, so Ocean lanes isnt doing a disservice to kids.

ocean Lanes does not pin shave. The Lanes are sometimes to oily, but that’s it. The food is pretty decent. They don’t have much open bowling because they have so many leagues going on. Including to school leagues during the winter seasons. The staff is very friendly.

Comment Date: 5/6/2008 Name: Pin Shaving!
You have heard of point shaving in pro sports, well try pin shaving! That’s what they do at Ocean Lanes. They take the pins and round the bottoms down so the base is much smaller than normal. This makes the pin very easy to knock down with the slightest bit of force. Now most pins over time will have their bases knocked up and rounded off some, but nothing like shaving them down on a pin lathe.
It’s not legal, and not ethical but hey whatever makes the bowlers happy I guess.

Comment Date: 4/21/2008 Name: Cosmo Occhiogrosso
Very nice establishment. Good food, nice bar and plenty of parking. However, lanes are tremendously easy to hit. Serious bowlers should be aware they will average at least 20 pins higher here.

if parents are bettin on kids 300 they should be ashamed,, dont be afraid to tell them
2 300s in 4,000 shore conference games-guess you are right- way too many.

very clean—great conditions–friendly staff—one of the best I’ve ever bowled in

Comment Date: 12/12/2007 Name: Mom to HS Bowler
In the first couple of weeks of Shore Conference Bowling there have been two 300 games, countless 700+ series and a team series of 3500+. What’s wrong with this picture? Since when do high school bowlers have averages of 230? I have heard that Ocean Lane’s owner Jay wants to have EVERY honors score in the state of NJ held at Ocean Lanes.
The high school bowling team coches are annoyed. The athletes feel the “sport” has been taken out of the game. Spectators are now taking bets to see how many 300 games will be shot this year.
I for one will do everything in my power to raise awareness that what Ocean Lanes is doing is a DISSERVICE to the youth bowlers of Monmouth & Ocean Counties. These youth bowlers will have to put down these artifically inflated averages when they go for tournaments or other leagues.
I hope high school bowling for the Shore Conference is moved to a more respectable bowling center.

Lanes are pretty sh*tty and old. Pretty pricey too and never have deals wich pisses me off. The lanes are dry as f*k and when they are oiled they dry up in like 5 frames and hook the lane easily
over all .. fun place but needs help

Great place to bowl. Leagues are structured nicely and Jay (the owner) puts up money for guaranteed prize money leagues. I bowl 3 times per week there.

Very nice place to bowl. Professional setup through and through. They havent givin in to all the cosmic bowling, and rock and bowling that you see everywhere else. Great place to practice. Also Tony, in the proshop is The best of the best!!!!

For having the NJ State Tournament there what lousy conditions. No oil on the lanes except for a few preferred bowlers. It gives this game a bad rep.

Place looks great. This is how it was supposed to look all along. Interesting turn of events brought it full circle to the prominent establishment it is today, as it was in 1988.
A 22 year circle. The Lord works in some very mysterious ways.

Can a child have their birthday party at Campanis? The last time I was there for a party was before the new owners took over and it was pretty bad..it smelled in there, the ceiling tiles were coming down, swore I would never have my kids party there…but I have heard about the renovations and am considering having a party there in the near future.

Will Mark Couch come back and bowl? He’s one of the better more versatile bowlers they had in the place. I heard he isn’t bowling anymore which is a shame. Mark was Diana’s right hand man. I wonder if he will start helping to run things and do all the stuff he used to do back in the day.

Thanx a bunch for the free practice game this morning Diana!! shout out to Tom as well, This place is lookin great and its good to be back home. The remodeling includes: new sign, new stucco job on outside wall (i miss the old mural they painted in 06), nice pretty multi colored carpet, fresh paint , new masking plate graphics, freshly resurfaced lanes, a cleverly put together piece of old lane for the counter top at snackbar, seats redone, and a wheelchair ramp along 28. the place is overall 100% cleaner then ever before. Prices are pretty reasonable- starting at $3 game- considering what most others these days charge. Diana & everyone else keep up the good work!!

Everythings in place and lanes look great.New carpets, and the snack bar is greatly changed and we now have draft beer. We have all new sette areas and tables in the back, new masking units. The entrance doors are all brand new. I have to give credit to Mike Calbi who put everything in place and to all the workers who put their time in getting the lanes done. Some of the main help put many hrs getting the lanes ready to open. Come on down and see for yourself and join a league.

Comment Date: 9/9/2011 Name: Amazing
Harvey invested over a half a million dollars into the place ( new lanes, scoring system, flooring, seating, etc) to try and make a go of what was at the time a complete and total DUMP.
Things seemed to be turning around until the wonderful Tom Hughes decided to pocket the funds from the Monday Majors and high tail it to the Phillipines. That startd the downward spiral. Add in that quality staff who Harvey trusted that found great joy in robbing from him every chance they got. All of you former employees ( you know who you are) who were lucky enough to be employeed for five years should be thankful Harvey was naive enough to keep you. Amazing you ripped the man off for years and now you are moaning about how terrible he was. Are you kidding me???
Add in the fact that the landlord did ZERO to support the business ( parking lot was shot, roof leaked, AC unit died and took months to be fixed, etc) why in God’s name would Harvey put another penny into the place?? It was a business decision to get out and Harvey was happy to walk away.
Enjoy the new furnishings, but hate to say it, seniors and 10 kid max birthday parties don’t keep the lights on. Lodi Lanes as nice as it may look now, is still in the middle of nowhere, location is everything and Wallington and Bowler City will still rule when it comes to open bowling and parties. You can dress up a pig but it’s still a pig.
Good luck to all of you, you deserve each other..

Can’t wait for Lodi to open back up. Wasn’t a perfect place before they closed, but the lanes conditions were the best around. No one remotely close puts down as much oil and as consistantly as their staff did. My only wish is if they can open a website already! I would love to see the league listings, hours, and other information online without having to drive there or call. I’m so glad they have changed ownership and can’t wait to see this place reach its full potential. Rick’s Pro Shop there is one of the best in the state. Rick is very knowledgeable, kind, and knows his craft more than anyone around. Your ball will never fit better than with him. Don’t believe any negativity about him, those people want to achieve personal gain by bashing him, or have heard from someone who would want achieve personal gain by bashing him. People in the industry respect him and know how great he is. Do yourself a favor and get to him asap, he will improve your game like no other.

Latest news carpets are being put down and AMF started working to day…….Latest rumor at Bowler City monday nite meeting is Lodi Lanes ran out of money and won’t open. They really don’t want LODI LANES to open. Where do these sick people get their imformation from. They should come down and see for themselves.

Comment Date: 8/15/2011 Name: SayWhatUWill
Wow! People have ALOT to say on here. But I’m gonna have to agree with all the positive comments about Lodi. Unfortunately, Lodi Lanes has received a bad name due to the way it was kept up by the previous owner. It’s such ashame he ran this place into the ground. He was NOT friendly, he was not very approachable, and it seemed like all he cared about was his money….. But where did that money go to make this place better?! I’ll tell you… Right into his pocket. These dedicated bowlers didn’t come here because they wanted to support Harvey. They stayed cause this place meant something to them. And he just ran it into the ground. It’s such a shame. All he was worried about were his other houses. But I guess once he left…. The only way now is up. And let me tell you, this place is going to be amazing!
I have seen what use to look like hole in the wall look fabulous! This will be the new house everyone is going to want to go to. The potential this place has, and what is being done, I give the new owner alot of credit. He knows what this house means to certain leagues, and that says alot! I’m so happy this place is coming back. I honestly loved the people…minus the owner. You feel welcomed. Yes I know that’s not what the exterior says…. But trust me… Once you see that sign go from “OWL” to “BOWL”….they are back in business. And I truly hope anyone reading this will agree with me, I’m so happy Lodi Lanes is back in business better then ever!!!!

Comment Date: 8/15/2011 Name: Anonymous
To keep you up to date Lodi Lanes is coming around just fine. I don’t hear to much from the big mouth who for weeks kept saying Lodi won’t open. She knows who it is. I hope she enjoys T-BOWL 2 now because who knows how long Harvey will be the owner, not too long I hope. Every dog has his day he’s having his.

Comment Date: 8/9/2011 Name: Vivian
I must be very mistaken, but if Harvey Ely was not the Owner of Lodi Lanes, why did he say he was allowed to remove all the equipment that he said he owned???? I did not think you could legally remove property if you did not own it. Hate to correct you, but what he leased was the building, he was legally the Owner of the business (Pinstreet @ Lodi Lanes) and supposedly the building contents.

Comment Date: 8/9/2011 Name: Anonymous
So sorry to call him the owner- The idiot who leased the center- is that better? Did we hurt your feelings? Too Bad! Now read this- this will make you feel better -Posted on 8/23/2006 -If the new owner of Lodi Lanes is the same owner from Sparta lanes when I bowled there 25 years ago,I wouldn’t recommend going to Lodi. When he was in Sparta Lanes he spent many thousands of dollars doing the bar over and installing new carpet but couldn’t fix the hand dryers of which half were not working. Machines were always breaking down and since he wouldn’t spend the money to keep parts on hand, they were often down for days. He also bowled in the Major league there on Friday nights and when we bowled pots after the league, I noticed that the lanes he bowled on always had more oil than the others. He also couldn’t be bothered with making locker keys for people who didn’t have any rather than indiscriminently handing out the master key to whom ever asked for it.This naturally resulted in people having things stolen from their lockers and of course he would say he was not responsible and therefor not make good on the stolen items. This guy never really cared about or took care of his bowlers. He was only concerned about one thing and that was the almighty dollar. If you are going to bowl here,I wish you good luck as long as he is the owner. If the new owner’s name is not Harvey Ely, then I apologize and retract everything written here. If that is his name then everything stands as written.

The “Anonymous person who can’t spell properly -Does, not DOSE stupid -stay out of Lodi. You are not welcome! Go bowl at TBOWL where the owner can’t promise crap. The guy is a loser. Always has been always will be. Can’t run a business, not like his dad. Promising a league $10k- yeah right…I guess he must live in MagicLand- How in the world is he gonna come up with that money? Oh I know how- by not paying his distributors or his bills. By the way -Anonymous(the one who talks bad about Lodi) – You have to be the dumbest BEOTCH around – You have no idea what is going on in the bowling center so keep your mouth shut – I know its hard for you because your mouth is open for “something” – but stay out of everyone’s business ! Have a nice day:)

Please stop calling Harvey Ely the former owner. He never owned anything he leased the equiptment.

Comment Date: 8/9/2011 Name: Vivian
to all the anonymous people out there who can only bad mouth the former employees without owning up by posting your own name – all I can say is look who’s talking about being a back stabber and butt kisser – I guess you want the people your badmouthing to still think you’re their friend otherwise you wouldn’t be afraid to post your name along with your negative comments.
Lodi will open soon and will be better than it ever was and the people working there will be much nicer because they don’t have to deal with all the negative aspects created by the former owner.

Comment Date: 8/8/2011 Name: Anonymous
I wonder whose talking again. The same backstabber who bowls in T-BOWL2. Why don’t you get a life. You’re backing the other backstabber from T-BOWL. Why are so bent on bad mouthing LODI LANES. Maybe it’s because you weren’t wanted in LODI. Anyway the lanes are being done and we’ll be opening AUGUST 27TH WETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. So talk all you want.

Comment Date: 8/7/2011 Name: Anonymous
All you people know how to talk the talk real good. Just because the place is being done over, dose not mean the people that will still be working there wil be any better then before. One of the factors there is the parking lot, paving it over is NOT going to give you more spaces to park. ( that is a big problem in it self ) Who ever the owner is I hope they screen the people they have working for them. And so much for talking behind someones back, your all doing it to the past owner. ( when he was there you all were butt kissers )

Comment Date: 7/15/2011 Name: Vivian
An answer to JUST WONDERING – who said all the same employees will still be there? Only the ones that are good with customer service will remain. Also, in answer to your suggestion about helping Harvey – you can’t help someone who doesn’t want your help or someone who thinks he doesn’t need anyones help or suggestions because he will do it his way only (which is the wrong way, or so we learned). But you can feel free to help him if you want – because you’re still bowling with him.

Comment Date: 7/15/2011 Name: Vivian
Hey Your Mom,
You’re doing the same thing you accused the everyone else of doing – being nice and talking behind your back – only it appears you’re afraid to give your name – but at least they are being nice to your face- people only talk behind your back when you give them something negative to talk about – otherwise they couldn’t say anything about you. You might be sorry when you see the place that you chose not to join a league. (you’re loss)

What is going to be different if all the same people are apparently going to work there. Maybe you all should have helped this guy HARVEY.

Comment Date: 7/14/2011 Name: Darshan
This is going to be amazing! Lodi Lanes will finally be run properly. Not like the previous owner/leaser whose name i won’t mention…except it starts with HAR and ends in VEY. What a total waste of 5 years. Loser. Should stick to what he’s best at…selling something that isn’t there. Promises were made and were not followed through . It’s like trying to sell a rolls royce in newark! No use! Before you know it Lodi Lanes will be up and running. This will be the best bowling center in North Jersey. 1000% better than bowler city and wallington put together. Much friendlier staff for sure. What should a bowling alley be when they reopen? Taking care of what really matters- league bowlers and seniors that bowl there- guaranteed revenue..thats what the dipstick that leased the center before failed to realize. Its putting the customer first, not yourself you moron. Also bringing in new league bowlers and recreational bowlers to see what changes have been made to Lodi. Can’t wait for the grand opening ! See you soon!

Glad to hear Lodi is FINALLY being rennovated. I left Lodi a couple of years ago because of the previous owner’s empty promises and of him going back on his word. I actually believed that the house was going to shut down for good because of the ingrate. Harvey, you’re garbage and a loser. You are the poster boy of how YOU people think of only yoursevles and no one else, typical of your kind. Only a matter of time before you’re eliminated from the state.
Lodi can be one, if not, the best house in Jersey if managed properly. Hopefully all will learn from the past and not repeat it.

Thanks for the update, Al. Many of the Wed Nite Mens 820 League bowlers were concerned about where we would be able to bowl next season. I will be glad to let them know that we can stay at Lodi.

Well fellow bowlers the time is here. Lodi Lanes started the renovations this past week. We’ll have new lanes , sette’s and carpets. The glass around the bar was takened out today. They started painting out side. As soon as the out side is done the parking lot will be done. We’ll have a new sign to replace the won that said owl then later said ow. Also the snack bar is being updated and is going to look great. For those who don’t believe this come on down and come inside and take alook. Ask us any questions and we’ll be honest with you. Come down
now and see how the lanes were left. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Hoping to see you on opening day.

It looks like the same stuff that happens in Lodi Lanes happens here too, gossip. Everyone there wants to be so nice but then they go and talk about you behind your back to everyone and anyone. Although I enjoyed bowling there for the most part I don’t think I’ll be going back there to bowl in a league if they reopen. Are they actually going to reopen??? I went by there and nothing new has changed???

Great going Vivian couldn.t have said it better myself. He did take Lodi Lanes down the tubes and he’s happy about it. I heard the $10,000 he’s adding to the Friday lge.is based on 24 teams and they only have 16 teams. Bowlers are not stupid and he’ll find that out. They say every DOG has it’s day and his is comming for being vindictive.

Comment Date: 6/27/2011 Name: Vivian
In spite of the previous Owner, Lodi Lanes will finally live up to the NEW LODI LANES name. It will be all new – parking lot, lanes, settees and all else – Can’t wait to shut up the big mouths that said it couldn’t (or wouldn’t) happen. SO – all you defectors that want to go to T-Bowl for a few extra bucks, – BE MY Guest – because very soon it will show the effects of neglect (just like Lodi did) because all the extra money is going to entice leagues from other centers instead of putting some back into the business (instead of his pocket) for the benefit of the bowlers that support him (he won’t care about the T-Bowl bowlers just like he didn’t appreciate the Lodi bowlers who supported him for 5 years – living on promises of proposed upgrades. (how foolish were we to believe him)
SO IF YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT THE PLACE YOU BOWL IN – COME BACK TO LODI.

Lodi Lanes will re-open on or about the 1st week of Aug. ELY ENTERPRIZES which was the last one to lease Lodi Lanes took everything he could so the lanes could not open for the summer but he’s wrong ….they will open and all the bowlers can’t wait. I heard he took the friday nite league from Lodi by giving them $10,000 added money for 3 years but he couldn’t spend a dime for LODI LANES. He’s a very spiteful person nothing like his Father who was the brains behind their business. Looking forward to seeing all of you at New Lodi Lanes. Renorvating will start soon and it will look like NEW LODI LANES.
P.S. THE PARKING LOT WILL BE REPAVED.

I bowled in a league there and last Sunday we show up, only to be told that by Tuesday Lodi Lanes will be closing “for a while.” They could have given us more notice! We had two more weeks left on the league.

Nothing new in the place. New Lodi Lanes boasts a fine collection of potholes, broken “OWL sign and a 50’s exterior that hasn’t been updated. Need to buy a case of new light fixtures….too dark. Too bad. Someone else should buy it and fix it for real. Not just promises. An awful shame how the kicked out the old regime like Al and the other proshop Guy. But Rick is ok. Too pricey to buy equip. from but somewhat knowledgable. Sold his soul to get this location though.

I’ve been bowling there lately and the lanes have been great and the customer service is very good as well (lots of nice people there). Plus the prices can’t be beat with $2.25 games on tuesday thursday and sunday after 5pm. I’m probably going to join a summer league there this summer. I heard last summer they gave coupons to all summer league bowlers EVERY week for 3 free games. Sounds like a sweet deal to me!

We went bowling at Lodi Lanes this summer as a break from our regular center. A few times we tried to bowl though, it was closed for the day. Very strange to find a place closed for the day with no explainable reason. So one night on a weekend we go there and the sign says”OWL” because it is falling apart. The lot is falling apart, fullof holes and my son trips and falls. We complained to the desk but he seemed to brush it off and gave us a lane. The lanes were dirty as was the snackbar and bar. And dark. We tried the proshop on the way out. Not a nice man! Couldn’t wait to get rid of us. Been there 4 or 5years ago and was much friendlier people then. Eileen Donna Al Annie and the other proshop guy,ANJ were all more helpful and knowledgable. I understand that places change and owners buy and sell businesses but if this new owner, Harvey Eley, who I’m told going to knock this place down soon anyway, just fix it up a bit and hire some of the nice people back maybe less complaints and better bowling would be the norm.

lodi lanes may be a bit run down, but the lanes themselves are always perfect. ( don’t listen to anyone else they prob. s**k and don’t no what there doing) if they say the lanes are bad. Also they actually have been redone. Even better. Prices r cheap, no one ever there, and good caring workers. (unlike wallington)i advise u to visit. dont tell to many people. i dont want the lanes to become over crowded. lol

The lanes are much improved and have similar (but more forgiving) shot to Wallington. They are not too easy as was mentioned by Mr. Heim either…they just are maintained better than Bowler City which is olied with a tooth brush to save money..hahaha

If the new owner of Lodi Lanes is the same owner from Sparta lanes when I bowled there 25 years ago,I wouldn’t recommend going to Lodi.

Comment Date: 7/1/2006 Name: Kris
The new owner of Lodi Lanes is the old owner of Sparta Lanes in Sussex County and the current owner of Warwick Lanes in NY. He made a lot of promises in Sparta for like new carpetting, air condition, and to clean up the place. None of them ever came true until Sparta got the new current owners. I’m not saying he won’t make changes here hopefully he will but don’t get to excited until you see them.

I can’t hit a damn thing in this house. I don’t know if it’s b/c the lanes haven’t been stripped in 50yrs or if it’s the janitorial type key ring I clip to my Garth Brooks belt buckle.

Comment Date: 4/12/2006 Name: Arnold
The place is in much better shape now that they put mats near the urinals. I throw the best lookin straight ball in that house, and my VP’s shoulders are small.

Comment Date: 2/7/2006 Name: Bruce
I bowled here recently and agree somewhat with what others have said. This place can use an update. I found the bowling to be OK, but the overal appearance could be refreshed. The prices are fair though and chances are good you will get a lane. I would never hope for an alley to shut down. If you have been bowling in New Jersery, you know that most places have shut down (Paramus, Interstate, Lucy Strike, Country Club, etc) Can’t afford any more to close! Make it nice and people and families will be there.

Comment Date: 1/10/2006 Name: mowah!
I love this lane, it’s so cheap that even the family from Brunswick can bowl here without a problem! Their prices are cheap and the old lady at the counter is nice, yet the snack bar looks like an old truck stop at that Navada bowling alley. The bar is ok yet their tender never gives you peanuts! What’s the deal?!?! And the bathrooms smell all the time. Thanks

I play in a high school league at Lodi and it is like a trash can. The lanes are terrible, and the lane/ball return makes my ball so greasy.

Comment Date: 12/12/2005 Name: Joe
The place is a dump. How it stays open is anyone’s guess. Your ball will be tracked after a few games and the lane conditons are from the 1950’s. It’s been in bad shape for many years.

Comment Date: 11/29/2005 Name: Bill Alvarez
Lot of fights in this house. I’m an ex-Canadian football player for the Saskatchewan Riders. Seems like you’re always trying to avoid the machines breaking down or some guy with his sweatshirt tucked into his pants throwing punches at you in this place. Few Fridays ago, I felt like I was back on the Blue Turf! Anyhoot, the lanes are inconsistent and the pretzels are stale.

Comment Date: 10/13/2005 Name: Al Trautwig
Haven’t seen many people who can score on the low side. Except this one guy, forget his name. He has the lanes figured out. He’s always nippin and tugging at his sweat pants. Throws a real nice shot on tough lane conditions.

Comment Date: 8/10/2005 Name: John Lignos
You said it Phil! They should just put the pins in the parking lot. Even with all the pot holes, it may be more consistant.

Comment Date: 8/2/2005 Name: Phil
This bowling alley needs some work. It’s not clean or taken care of properly. Never mind the lane conditions. Not worth going to.

Comment Date: 6/13/2005 Name: Joe Lemak
I’ve bowled league for years at Lodi Lanes. I’ve found them to be nice group of people running center. Nice snackbar. Not so busy but price of game lower than most centers around here that charge $4-$5 on a Saturday night. Bar OK too – but no tap beer! Pro shop very knowledgable & balls priced better than most pro shops around. Drilling free if you buy ball from him. Guess he won’t drill ball for nothing (WOULD YOU?) if you don’t buy from him – who pays the rent? Anyway sorry if you can’t make a 10 pin. Practice is cheaper at New Lodi Lanes – Try it! You could get better. Otherwise not as bad as some say.

Comment Date: 3/8/2005 Name: Cappy M
Hey Tom, you did go to Lodi New Jersey correct? They put the oil on with a mop. Nice and consistent! The pro-shop wants $70 to drill a ball not purchased there. Straight bowlers feed off these lanes, b/c there is no consistency. However, if you bowl on the high side it is a different story. They should really try oiling both sides and getting pins from this century on the low side.

Thank You.

This center is an older wood lane center kept in good condition. It has Qubica Scoring and includes ball speed display, which I found helpful. They host parties and are very helpful at the desk. Over all it was a good place to bowl-easy shot long oil patterns, average carry. Nothing much to complain about unless you are not a very good bowler. A little too slick for a straight ball bowler-lower ball speeds(Older bowlers & young kids) will benifit from the oil. It also has a nice Pro Shop-good prices & selection & open every weekday. Bar & Snackbar are OK. I give it an overall 4.

Comment Date: 8/1/2004 Name: Mike Mergner
These lanes s*ck – never bowl here. They are drenched in oil and the lanes are dirty and old. The ball return is retro – meaning it is one ball wide and extends to the foul line so you can’t hit the 10 pin on the right side. I hated bowling high school there, big mistake – do not bowl there.

I think you should have your prices listed on this page! It will be a lot more helpful.

This house is good but not great. (Its certainly better than TB Wrightstown; don’t get me started!!!) Games are expensive (no specials) and the old-style computer keypads at first refused to work. (I normally am able to work them without a problem) They should’ve upgraded to a newer system, not just the monitors. Plus the alleys, though they seem to score ok, they are in TERRIBLE condition (Wrightstown is even worse)- in fact it seems the lanes added on (low side) look even worse than the 16 original lanes. Who knows when they’d last been resurfaced. (Ocean, Lakewood, and Toms River leave TB in the dust lane-wise). And though upgrading to synthetic lanes usually is the answer, there ARE some good wooden lanes still around. Case in point, Strike Zone Egg Harbor has the BEST maintained wood lanes in all South Jersey. In addition to regular resurfacing (as far as I know those lanes were pretty much always well maintained), they also replace boards as necessary and it would behoove both TB houses to do likewise, if they INSIST on keeping the wood.

Comment Date: 8/28/2010 Name: sk8ersbus1
This bowling alley is pretty good. the expansion looks great, though i kinda wish they replaced the wood lanes with synthetics instead of adding more wood. (more cost effective) They’re upgrading the scoring monitors but not the actual system. The carpet is nice and place is overall pretty clean. My only complaint is its expensive (very few if any specials, which are at very bad times like sundays when i’d rather be in church) and (especially on lane 12) the balls were getting stuck constantly. No damage, thank God, but its a nuisance. There were only 2 working and can be hard to track down if theres a problem. Also, if u have to push reset, DO NOT use the button on ball return. Instead do it on computer, so it doesn’t mess up ur score. There is no snack bar, and currently there’s not much of a pro shop. Just misc supplies at counter.
Other than that Thunderbird is great and i got a 220 which is my highest score in MANY years!!!!! So though its expensive its worth it!!! check it out!!!

Ashley you are probably the dumbest person I have ever met! Go back to school idiot! Anyway, the bowling alley is great. Service was fine and will return soon!

Ashley truly has problems. Instead of giving a huge misspelled lecture on how people are poor, you should just leave your review of the place and go back to English class because your grammar and spelling skills are terrible! Being on your I-Phone has nothing to do with grammar trouble. Anyway, the renovations to the place are great and service is excellent. Not to mention the prices are decent. Highly reccommend this bowling alley!!!

Thunderbird lanes has always provided our family with a pleasant bowling experience on a rainy day at the jersey shore. We were so impressed the first time we stepped inside 3 years ago and realized how updated the interior was. In driving past recently we noticed they have now done a wonderful job giving the exterior a face lift. My guess is that they have the whole package going for them now!! Love it there!

somebody answer me these questions (i’m not from the area). are the lanes still wood or are the new added alleys synthetic? did they replace the old original pinsetters or did they put old ones on the new lanes? just curious. i bet it looks good, and their bucking the trend by adding new alley beds as oppose to places closing down. thats good

I have to disagree with the neg.comments made on behalf of Thunderbird Lanes. i had worked there and the owners are the nicest bosses anyone could have as well as very helpful..as for the interior i think the Davis Family has done a great job considering what the place looked like when they purchased the place…and to see how much they have grown guess they cant be really doing a horrible job if they got money to renovate the place to satisfy u unhappy customers ..high five to the Davis family keep up the great work i usually pop in every now and again see u soon Kristie

First let me comment that a bowling alley is just that. I would not expect one to be extremely clean. Thunderbird Lanes is your typical bowling alley. Let’s face it, it’s what you make of it. We always have a good time there. The staff has never made us feel anything but welcome.
If you’re looking for special attention and an extremely clean atmosphere, expect to pay high prices at an upscale racquetball facility. Thunderbird Lanes delivers fun, good service, and reasonable fees!

I would like to comment on the comment below by Ashley Mays on 2/19/2008 as well as everyone else who has submitted a comment as well as the town of Manahawkin. First of all, Ashley, the next time that you send something out on your “IPHONE” you should do a spell check. For those of you who mentioned the conditions of the bowling alley, I thank you for getting that type of info out to anyone who has never been there as well as letting the owner know what people think of the condition of his place. I also think that when people are in a customer service type of position they should treat their customers with respect & welcome people to their business. And last, for the township of Manahawkin to allow a public (family style) gathering place to be in such a condition is unacceptable. I have noticed that there have been less & less places for families &/or children to go to without having to leave the community & there have been more & more homes as well as shopping areas built in our town.

We were just there on Friday night. Well to start with the person at the front desk was rude (we felt like we were bothering her asking her for a lane); the lanes kept breaking down; the bowl return was burning up (rubber burning); first bowl down the alley got stuck; the dirty mouths on the teenagers was disgusting; there was holes in the ceiling; part of the ceiling was falling down. Good luck with the renovations. By now it should be done…no? I remember the story in the APP. Was a good write up. I bowled there years ago when I was a junior bowler with some friends that lived in the area. Can’t wait to visit again.

thunderbird lanes is an awsome place to bowl it has good service and I was well helped when my ball got stuck and that night they were so busy I wasn’t going to get there help but I do and they came to my service quickly. Thunderbird lanes is an awsome place for family fun and not to mention today I might to there today with my family. Maybe you people an think thunderbird lanes is a dump should appreciate the fact that you have money I bowl and a place to bowl because there are many poor people out there who ant to bowl but can’t bowl because they dos not have any money and they are living on the streets. Also people who get mad that they have to wait in those long lines for the snack machines, there are many people who woqild die to gets in that line because they have been starving for days. Also people who complain about the service there should just wait there turn because you people have such tempers omg. Anyway I read aloe of your reviews and I can’t believe that you people caould say such horrkible things about something slot of people xdont have and thatcpeoplw can’t afford. Excuse me forthe mispelling of words and word mess ups but I’m on my iPhone an d its hard to type on here’s.

Comment Date: 1/5/2008 Name: Matt Davis (owner)
For your info we are renovating and expanding, adding 8 lanes, upgrading exterior, and bathrooms. The whole project is worth around 1.5 million. The renovations will start anyday!! Ground breaking ceremonies will be in local papers. Thanks you Stafford Twp. for all your help and approvals. The project will be done this summer. Come see for yourself!!!
Thanks,
Matt Davis

Maple bowl is ok .they certainly did nice job with remodel. the mini sofas in the bowling area are unique. nice synthetic lanes and approaches. they removed the “drop” ceiling so the pins/ acoustics are LOUD!!!!on mo-thu daytime is $2 a game. but only if u have ur own ball. all their balls have standardized grips (small med,lg, xl) , none of which fit me well. the pinsetter drops pins a lot also. if u dont have ur own ball, go to baker lanes, around the corner. they also have $2 games mo-fri daytime.

I hope this piece of crap gets struck by lightning. The lanes are freakin’ crooked, the pinsetters s*ck the big one, and the guy behind the counter is a jack***.

Comment Date: 12/13/2006 Name: Dan
This place is just plain awful. They havnt updated anything in the center since before i was born. Nothing ever works and everything gets damaged. I was just bowling in a tournament and my brand new angular one was wrecked. Pin setters work half the time and the chances of the ball return working are slim.

Comment Date: 9/3/2006 Name: Anonymous
The place s*cks! I bowled there one saturday night, and they were expensive and rude. They didn’t help with our names to be put in the computer. They had some music on that was old. The bar was the only nice thing about that place. Never bowling there again!! PS. And when I went to complain to the owner Rocky, he acted like he knew everything and told me not to bowl there anymore if I don’t like it.

Comment Date: 12/10/2005 Name: Jo
I really dislike Maple bowl, if you get a gutter ball don’t expect to see your ball the same way it was before you threw it(meaning its most likely going to be damaged).
just my 2 cents..

Hi. I’m a regular at Maple Bowl and I love it. I bowl two leagues there, Saturday morning YABA league, and Tuesday night doubles league. I also bowl a school league, where Maple Bowl is my house. I love it there. Wood lanes, great people. It’s just a fun atmosphere. You should check it out, if you want to have a great time.

Also, thank you westbrook for the aug 7 special of free bowling all day. prizes were given out, there was cosmic bowling and it was a blast!!!

I like how Westbrook accepts competitor’s coupons, that’s pretty neat. Not too many places do that.

Very nice place. Prices and deals are a bit difficult to understand bt the staff is very friendly and help you out and give you good deals. Technology is great, Food is good, and the time spent with your family or friends there is priceless.

Great place for the whole family. Took my family there for New Years Eve and it was a blast! The staff is friendly and very helpful. As for a place for bowlers, the shot is usually a challenge, but any decent bowler should have no problem.

Some of the nicest, salt-of-the-earth people you’ll find anywhere. Great place to bring the kids.

Approaches are horrible, how about some approach maint. A consistant shot would be nice.

One of the best kept lanes around for the price. I come from Philly just to catch the deals!

Westbrook is an enjoyable alley to bring children of all ages, when looking for something different to do. My grandchild loves to go there.

Jersey Lanes Comments

NO, NOT a dump!!!!! Hy-way bowl is the DUMP!!!! And Jersey Lanes is better than Linden Lanes too because the staff here treat you like somebody; Linden staff only treats you like just another number. I also appreciate that Jersey accepts Sixlet (or other gobowling dot com coupons) for discount bowling. So THANKS Jersey Lanes for helping me stay out of trouble on a rainy afternoon that would’ve been BORING otherwise, ha ha!!

Jersey Lanes is fabulous. Doesn’t look like much from outside but inside WOW!! Lanes have a nice pattern, very clean and nicely kept, good staff, reasonable prices. Beautiful. No complaint at all=) ….If only i discovered this alley sooner…..a PERFECT alternative to Hy-way bowl which is decidedly run-down and ghetto (TAKE THAT)!!!!!

just wanted to clear this up I’m not saying Jersey Lanes is better or Linden Lanes is better both places are great Sal Skylar Rich all the staff are great people and Bobby Steve Chuck John Mosess great people so expiercnce both bowling alleys.

Jersey Lanes is my home center. I bowl in the junior league saturday morning 9:00am it takes up the whole house from lane 1to42. The leagues r exelent.Anonymous i don’t know what u r talking about but the staff iz not disrespectful.Bobby Mosses chuck and his son r very respectful.Chuck iz the owner the lanes r mediumly oiled.prices r a little bit on the expensive side but it iz worth the money. Bowl at jersey lanes bye

Comment Date: 4/7/2008 Name: B
nice clean place lanes well oiled but dont go on a saturday night you have good chance of getting shot lol.

Comment Date: 1/22/2008 Name: Alex League Bowler
The best alley in Union County hands down. The lanes and oil patterns are very consistent. If you know when to go you can bowl plenty of games without feeling it in your wallet. Also, leagues are handled well. My only suggestion is if you are a serious bowler don’t stop by after about 6 on Fridays or Saturdays because, that is when the annoying mass crowds of teenagers show up. Best time is early afternoon on Fridays or if you join a league $2 games after junior leagues Saturday morinings.

Comment Date: 8/21/2007 Name: Tony Danza(im the boss)
I had a great time bowling at this center. The weekday staff was very knowledgeable and respectful. Ill continue to bowl in leagues there.

Overall the lanes didn’t give much problems except one time when it didn’t rack all 10 pins
