Hy-Way Bowl Comments

This is my last summer ever bowling here; not only is the people at the desk rude, but the assistant manager Joe is rude as well. I’ve been bowling here for quite some time and now I have to call it quits. Between the 2 elderly ladies and Joe; I just can’t take it anymore. I bowl Tuesday and Wednesday nights there and the shot is like night and day. I am bowling better on Wednesday night then I am on Tuesday, I asked the guy oiling last Wednesday night before league why the lanes are so different and he explained to me that before he oils he uses hot water with the striping mix to clean the back ends better. That right there explained everything to me. What they need to do is fire the 2 elderly ladies and the assistant manager, they need to hire a younger desk clerks. Before I end this I will tell you a story about Joe and you will realize why I don’t like him. One night I went there to practice and I seen him yelling at the younger desk clerk there, he called her fat. Are you freaking kidding me, is this how management treats their co-workers?

Have never seen a place where the owners do not care about the bowlers. They feel since there is no other alleys close they don’t have to fix anything since the people will bowl there anyway. It’s unfortunate that they have that attitude. The place could have such huge leagues all they have to do is invest just a bit of money. I drive 20 minutes just to bowl there it’s my first time bowling in that house, but it will be my last time as well. Strike and spare is a few minutes further down the road I will drive a little bit further to go to a place where the owners care about what the bowlers have to say about there house.

When I was a kid I used to bowl there in the 70’s & 80’s it was a nice place. Things change.

The last time I visited this place was in August of 2010 & I didn’t like it. The place was very dirty. It’s also, a little run down, too. I wouldn’t recommend this bowling alley to anyone!

Comment Date: 1/11/2011 Name: Deuce300 a.k.a Da Dragon
To Dragon all you gotta do is walk into Hy-Way and you will find me, don’t get it twisted cause you ain’t gonna destroy me on the lanes. All that talk wont get you no where except a quick cofax and extra cash in my pocket. I don’t play for $20 a game either, so if you got the balls you know where to find me. I also go by the Houseman as well!

Comment Date: 11/13/2010 Name: Truth hurts!!!
YEs, This place is a disgrace, and to say otherwise is pure IDIOCY!!!! I don’t care if ur sick of it-Get used to it!!!! I sure made a huge mistake coming here this past tuesday, and to this day i’m still kicking myself over it. The other times there was an older lady who was real nice, unfortunately was not there. Instead a man, whom i suspect might’ve been the owner. He was such a NUT! VEry rude, has no people skills, keeps customers waiting unnecessarily while gabbin with his homies, and for visually obvious reasons is a lousy businessman. The words Hy-way bowl and professional could NEVER fit in the same sentence!!! How was i suppose to know that if i try to erase a frame (when the computer scored wrong as it sometimes does) it’ll screw up the game?? He was very consdescending about it.
I agree with whomever wants to ditch this joint. The computers, as i said, are not only outdated but score wrong a lot, half the time the screens are very dim and blurry, and the lane kept shutting off prematurely (pay before u play). There would’ve been some serious problems if they tried to jip me out of the rest of my paid games! For some reason there were ice cubes in the toilets. At the lane 1 end exit doors, there’s actually PLEXIGLASS for windows!!!! Also, I should point out, on several random occasions i’ve been there ( i always park near the dumpster area) I’ve seen bowling balls thrown out with big cracks all around the ball among all the other litter. What’s that tell ya about the machinery? This alley is like a dead horse- stop beating it!!!
But would i feel so strongly if the employees were decent, NO!

Comment Date: 10/22/2010 Name: Dragon
This message goes directly to you “Da DRAGON”, I’m never one to hate on anyone’s game or opinion but, if you going issue an open bowling challenge to people have enough spirit to altleast leave some form of contact info so people, such as myself, will know who they will be destroying on the lanes. Hy-way bowl might not be the best center in town but, pot bowling always brings out the real bowlers. Step up and make it known who you are so we can do this the right way!!

Comment Date: 10/5/2010 Name: Deuce300 a.k.a Da Dragon
I love how everyone complains about how the place looks, but yet as soon as they are bowling and win money ” The B*tching Stops ” I’m putting a stop to this right now. I am having an Open Challange, if you got the b*lls then accept that means you too James don’t think I didn’t see what you wrote. {Comment deleted}. I produce score everytime I oil fool. I’m calling all you people out that are knocking the place and I’m not gonna bowl for no 5 dollars a game and I don’t accept checks. 50 dollars and up is the price. Choke on that b*tches. There’s nothing wrong with Hy-Way except for the idiots and cry babies that come into the place. I’m sick of it.

Comment Date: 4/30/2010 Name: sk8ersbus1
Well, This is my second time here. I notice the lanes werent quite as ridiculously dry as in december- someone said thats because leagues are over. Again I thought 2.25 is reasonable. But i saw their price list on the counter. After 6 on weekdays as well as weekends its 4.75!!!! The only way i’d even CONSIDER paying that is it better be a brand spankin new spotless immaculate brunswick zone kind of bowling alley, not a raggedy ol tin can dump like this!!! Hyway bowl is lucky they weren’t demolished like garden state bowl for the gsp ramp expansion. (theres a youtube video showing garden state bowl called alrashawn “ak” kincey) showing what the place looked like, much nicer and cleaner than hy-way. Even the now-closed roselle bowling alley looks better than that inside and out!!This place,i’m sorry is a total disgrace!!! Especially the outside around side and back is so trashy and filthy I would think its Camden NJ, with tons of litter , and the side parking lot stunk so bad of rancid beer it looks like they don’t even empty there dumpsters every week. I think some wrecking ball treatment for this shack is in order!!!! (in response to previous commenter, Notice i’m not complaining about the lane itself but everything else) The computer screens are somewhat faded out. But the good news is the staff is fine, pin action is ok. and as long as the games are only 2.25, its ok. BUt DONT go when its 4.75 a game- you’ll be SOOOOOOORRRRRYYYYY!!!!! you’d be better off getting toy pins from the dollar store and a tennis ball to play bowling with instead. The Abc, wibc, usbc whatever it is should be ashamed of itself if it certifies and sanctions this horrible excuse for a bowling alley for sanctioned play. Absolutley appalling!!!!! If Baseball umpire dudes or refferees must be neat shaven clean with shirts tucked in, and no scuffed up shoes, as well as school buses inspected by NJ motor vehicle inspection can possibly fail for lack of cleanliness, then the abc should similarly require any sanctioned bowling allies to be reasonably clean and tidy properly maintained, no excuses not to!!

I’ve read a lot of the comments regarding Hyway Bowl. Some of the complaints are valid and of course some are based on previous comments of others. True the house can stand a makeover. And yes the lanes can have different patterns at times. But this is beneficial to all. It allows low bowlers to have good games, and challenges the good bowlers to learn to read the lanes and make adjustments. And yes, like most, I’ve left up a lot of 7 pins, 4 pins & 10 pins on a good pocket hit. If you’re a good bowler, you should be able to make the adjustment by reading the lanes and how your ball rolls on them. People need to stop always complaining about nothing. There are two many bowling alleys disappearing as it is. For some, traveling is not convenient. For others, you have a choice. I’ve seen bowlers shoot 300’s, and 800’s like it’s nothing at Hyway. Go to other houses and you hardly see any. That’s something to think about. From this observation, most of the complainers will complain about any house they are at.

Guetto is a nice word to describe this place. It has definitely degraded in the past few years since i had been there. The woman behind the counter had 0 maners, after standing in front of her for 5 minutes she asked what we wanted, no ‘can i help you’, literally “what you want?”. She seemed upset as if we interrupted her doing nothing time. No offense, but i don’t think she finished 6th grade and i can’t understand how can a business owner pay someone to be rude and nasty to customers who are keeping his business going. From the look of the environment, maybe they’re not used to having people with manners there and that’s why they were so hostile…i don’t know…but i’m not going back and will tell everyone i can not to either.

I use to bowl at Hy-Lanes about two years ago.The lanes are a mess and the house is falling apart. Why don’t Danny pick money into fittung up the house so more bowlers will have somewhere to go instead of far out places. The food is great but the atsphere is horrable

Comment Date: 2/7/2010 Name: James
I use to love this house, but with all the drama going on its just bad now. 1 thing Danny needs to do is fire that kid that oils the lanes, he is always changing the shot and it gets worse and worse by each week. He tells people he knows what he is doing, but I know he doesn’t. He ain’t even that good of a bowler either. So any of you that know him, tell him I am calling him out. Atleast that guy Rich has a clue on what he is talking about with the lanes and it makes sense as well. That kid looks confused all the time when he is oiling.

Comment Date: 1/28/2010 Name: Dennis
I agree with the person that made the last post.I have been bowling at Hyway for like 15 years or more and every year the place gets worse and worse. Invest some money in the place Danny. Damn I’m sick of hearing you say you spent $10,000 on the A.C. and it still don’t work. Stop being so damn cheap and open your eye’s. I swear if he would get his act straight the place would be good, but like they say. He doesn’t care 1 bit about this place. I will be going back to Jersey lanes full time after this year. Bye Bye Danny Williams. Nice to know how you treat your league bowlers.

Comment Date: 1/27/2010 Name: I’m Outta There
Love a tough shot but HATE a bad shot. The owner simply wont listen to the bowlers and their complaints about the decor, lane conditions, bathrooms etc so screw him. I’m out after the season. As a person who grew up on tough shots I know the difference between tough and bad. If they simply add more volume of oil and allow the shot to hold up longer, no matter what the pattern, that would solve a lots of the problems. Why should bowlers be subjected to 1950’s style bench seats in the pits that are taped together, railings that are taped together, and so on? Answer, they don’t! Just have to have enough balls to pack up and leave. The lure used to be the quality of the leagues but now that Sunday AM has folded (thanks Danny) and Friday appears close behind, why stay when I can go anywhere else and not have to feel like my clothes are gonna get dirty when I sit.

Comment Date: 1/26/2010 Name: Former League Bowler
This place is a 1st class dump. I am so disgusted with this place, its not even funny. I walked in the door this past Friday and I seen 3 guys with the lane machine, they looked like the 3 Stooges. To me they looked like they had no clue on what they were doing. It’s a shame because it was so easy for me to come to this place, but with all this crap going on now, I won’t even waste my time. Keep up the good work Stooges and by 2 years Hy-Way and be a mini mall or a used car lot. You pick.

Comment Date: 1/25/2010 Name: YOUNG OL HEAD
i don’t know where to start the place wasn’t bad in the 70s and 80s it started going downhill in the end of the 80s and into the 90s but since the 2000s damm! this guy is a slum lord with feelings? hey won’t even buy urinals for the bathroom he paints them? he wont even put a door on the mens bathroom so a peep show is not out of the question but he has updated he put something to block the 1st urinal what about a door? the pro shop doesn’t have any heat the place has no color brown is a speciality!who has panel anymore? then instead of putting synthetics like his competition he puts saran wrap on the lanes? that will last for 3-5yrs but the synthetics would have lasted for atleast 15-20yrs? the oilman is a 1st class jerk and he don’t bowl in this retro bowling alley! can we get an extreme makeover please!!!! oh and some heat and ac!!!!!

Comment Date: 12/19/2009 Name: sk8ersbus1
well i like this alley pretty good. the price is fairly reasonable (2.25 til 6pm mo-fr); i just hope their high price isnt much more than that. i didnt notice the lanes looking that beat up; they look alright to me,considering how old the place is, and the staff was pretty good . but i definitely agree with the complaints about the decor ,ball returns, and seats looking too antiquated- that could use improvement, no excuses not to!!!! the parkway is right behind the lanes. it had an odd oil pattern- oily heads but DRY back end. i would think the oil would carry down over the course of bowling session. i cant say i agree with whomever said the pins fall too easily- the pins were rather rigid, (yes there are a lot of 10 pins) and it was tough to get strikes hitting the pocket. i find it kind of odd the exit doors (to the left) have thin sheet metal on the bottom portion instead of windows- how are ghetto chains wrapped around the doors gonna deter vandals like that?? pins sure are LOUD!!! the bumpers are black drainage tubes like wildwood bowling alley has. i also find it unusual for an alley to have a no curse word policy and anti-pant-sagging policy. never seen that before. but thats good. maybe the place is not in the best neighborhood but i still like it! later.

To the RETIRED BOWLING LEGEND, you forgot to mention me. How you gonna forget to mention the guy that works in the back. Whats up with that. Damn and I thought I took care of my people -__- I am very disappointed that I didn’t get a shout out.

Comment Date: 8/24/2009 Name: black guy
This dump is, by far, the worst alley I’ve ever been to. The prices could be a little bit lower, which would attract more customers, plus have those same customers buy a lot more games, thus making more money. The staff is generous, most of the time. The snack bar is very good. The bathroom needs to blow to pieces, seriously! It needs a new EVERYTHING. Hyway needs a vending machine that actually works, as well as a MAC machine that actually works. Have some discounts for the league bowlers, so that they can practice once in a while instead of going to another alley that’s cheaper and spending their money on them. Think about it…..

Comment Date: 3/10/2009 Name: RETIRED BOWLING LEGEND
let me tell you the place is a first class dump!!the staff has the worst attitudes they dont know how to talk to people pre school kids have a better personatility than the staff. he doesnt take credit cards the mac machine has a $200 limit.the bathrooms are a war zone and the lanes have more pot holes than route 22.the place needs an overhaul it can be saved if he puts synthetic lanes in he would get the new crowd back the location is perfect but you have to spend money to make money and he wants to spend very little.the place looks like a funeral parlour with the awning in the front this guy actually puts a chain on his doors when he closes what a dump!!! they did that in the 60s this is why home depot is there to buy doors that lock not with chains.the nicest people are janet the bartender lonce in the pro shop and the snack bar staff is ok.help we need an update alley asap!!!!

Comment Date: 3/2/2009 Name: Dave
Where can you find alley where you paid only $1.75 a game ? If you are a bowler from the old school. This is how bowling used to be. It take a lot of skill just to bowl a 200 game. With all the new alley now a day. The lane condition never changes. I could closed my eyes and bowl a 200 game. Lets bring back all the old alleys and all the old bowling balls. All those young guns out there will see their bowling averages drop by 50 pins.

Comment Date: 2/11/2009 Name: ShadowsWanderer
To the comment below Hy-Way gets new pins once a year not every 6 months. Second off the lanes are different day by day, the shot is never the same. Third off the lanes are in bad shape, the heads are burnt up. The place needs a lot of work and to tell you the truth I don’t see that happening. The kick backs are shot and the gutters are too low, thats why people always leave 7 pins or 10 pins.

Comment Date: 9/5/2008 Name: ex employee/ league bowler
to be honest with you, hy-way is a great house. yea tru the lanes may be old, but u have to realize that there are hardly any wood lanes still left. the only reason bitch and complain about the house is simply put, they don’t kno how to bowl… if u guys knew how to adjust or go back to basics u just might be a better bowler. its not rocket science but to score at hy-way is easy when u kno what your doin.
as far as the pins go, they get new pins every 6 months… u think they old~ haha ur crazy… I think the only thing wrong with the pins now a days is they to light. 3.5 lbs per pin is rediculous….
the alley is great, most of the employees are awesome (note I said most), the pro shop is phenominal, and the food (((fugataboutit))) AMAZING… DANNY WILLIAMS keep up the good work

Comment Date: 2/26/2008 Name:  soon to be former leauge bowler
The old lady and little man at the front desk are rude, the old wood lanes eat up you balls, the place is dirty the bathrooms are horrible. I cant wait until the season is over Im not coming back next year. the good thing about the place is game prices, proshop and snackbar.

Comment Date: 1/22/2008 Name: Alex
I take back my last comment I’ve learned a few things since i submitted that. There is tons of pin action at this alley. It is very old and so are the lanes. The lanes are old and your ball will have very different movement than it does at a newer alley. If you are a serious bowler I wouldn;t suggest hyway simply because the way all 10 pins fall sometimes when they shouldn’t you could bowl a great game and just feel like you dont deserve it.

Comment Date: 11/26/2007 Name: Alex
Old alley looks like somethin straight out of the fifties. Lanes are fun to bowl on, older style wooden pins fall easily. Also if you can get there at offpeak hours games are very cheap. Also its fun watchin the vets bowl if you go early durin the week you are gonna see 200’s left and right. Overall just a fun place to bowl if you have a group of friends with you.

Comment Date: 10/29/2007 Name: Choward
This bowling alley is only good for the liqour. Prices are good to bowl too, just wish they did dolla nights.

Comment Date: 9/20/2007 Name: Regular Customer
Best Food!!!! No Bowling Center can compare to this. Lane Conditions are in consistant. Overall needs some redecorating and some upgrades but it’s a nice place to bowl.

Comment Date: 9/6/2007 Name: Anonymous
This alley {deleted}. No oil, or nothing but oil. Holes the size of quarters on the front of the lane. Lanes haven’t been repaired since the fifties.

Worst Kept Lanes In New Jersey. Not a very good location either. Very hard to find for the First time. Gentlemen’s club is next door, Please be aware that bringing the family is a risk!

Worst bowling conditions in New Jersey. Not kept well at all. Lots of adjustments to be made

Comment Date: 3/29/2006 Name: Ian
this alley is horrible lane wise. For high school league they put NO OIL whatsoever worst kept lanes for any league that i have ever bowled on

Comment Date: 10/24/2005 Name: Chris
I’ve son has bowled here for several years. The lanes are good, food is good and prices are great!
Never had a problem with “HOT 22”..And yes it’s an older lane, but that’s where the charm falls into play.

Comment Date: 9/3/2004 Name: Joe
High scoring lanes, good pro shop, older house, food is pretty good. Alley is next to “Hott 22” Gentlemen’s Club so be careful bringing the family.

Really bad place to bowl and food is from down the street

Comment Date: 1/1/2012 Name: Dr. D
We were introduced to the place on New Years Eve 4 years ago and had one of the best family and friends celebrations ever. The following year my youngest son bowled with his dad in a league on Sun. nights. We even had his 10th birthday there 2011. After 3 league balls collected they even came in 2nd one time around. We had not been back since 6/11 and when we called to register for the New Years event were taken back by the changes reflected by the staff on the phone. However we decided to give it a try anyway. After several years with 3 families to be exact last night New Years 2012 was our last celebration there. The alley nas no new balls. Fortunately we all have our own but. There is a new backdrop above the alleys but that is all I noticed. The food, pizza they served last night was so bad after walking to the bar area I noticed not one of the groups had finished theirs. I was digusted. The champain was not expected to be the best but last night was worst then being a freshmen in college. If the alley wants to bring in paying customers they should treat their loyal ones with respect. There are alot of alleys in the area and we are going to take our balls and roll away. But not before contacting the owners. We appreciated the enviroment and wanted to support the place. Loyalty only goes so far.

Garden Palace is phenomenally priced at $1.50/game with the shoe rental at about $3.. All you naysayers with those reviews from 2006 don’t know what your talking about! The ownership is great and this is a great place to take your family and friends. It may be a little old, but its still going strong and it I highly reccomend this place over T-Bowl in Wayne- if you don’t want to burn a hole in your pocket. Get your but to Garden Palace and enjoy greatly priced, fun bowling!

Great little house. A throwback – but it is well maintained and I found the staff helpful and attentive. Plenty of parking. Personally I love the older houses (wood). The lanes have character and distict grooves for scoring if you can figure them out. Overall I would recommend

Comment Date: 2/20/2007 Name: Anonymous
personally, i don’t like the house. the people are rude and have no idea what they are doing. they didn’t even know hoe to use the nationwide card i had. and $25 for 1 game, 3 people… is a little ridiculous.

This bowling alley should be knocked down. The place is dirty and old, the shoes are beyond bad, I wouldn’t even wear them, they frighten me. The beer tasted like it was a couple years old. The place was swarming with teens who either were in or dress like they’re in gangs. There was fighting all over the place. The lanes have huge dents in them from the rowdy teens throwing the ball up into the air and letting it crash into the lanes… other people’s lanes. And I defy you to find a ball without massive cracks. This is by far the WORST bowling alley I’ve ever been to and someone stole my friend’s wallet.

Hanover Lanes Comments
Comment Date: 1/17/2012 Name: Jay W
Hanover Lanes happens to be one of the nicer bowling alleys I’ve bowled at, and I’ve bowled at a lot of them. The staff is courteous and helpful despite being overrun with kids. I like the place and will continue to bowl there. The person who won’t bring her kids there anymore. Don’t. Your kids are probably brats you can’t control, and since the staff didn’t kiss your butt and babysit is probably the reason you won’t go back. I highly recommend this place.

I don’t recall what it was like “back in the day” but lately (2010/2011) it’s been nice. Clean, cheery, more room than Madison Lanes, etc. I’m in a league and it’s fine. The only complaint I ever had was during a busy league night we had a problem and it took a while for someone to help us.

Comment Date: 6/28/2011 Name: AH
Yeah Not, Wouldn’t go there if I was paid to go!

@ George, You are new to hanover lanes. When you are there a while you will begin to see what I am talking about. My children are no longer allowed to bowl there.

Comment Date: 5/14/2011 Name: Anonymous
George, you should try Madison Lanes. Cleaner and much better customer service.

Comment Date: 5/5/2011 Name: George
I am a bit suprised by the sharpness of the negative comments. (Interesting that many of the seem to come from anonymous sources)…..
I have been bowling at Hanover Lanes for the last few months and must say they have a bright, cheery place. Lanes are clean, the arcade area is bright and inviting. The staff is friendly. I work in the area and go from time to time for a lunchtime practice and they are always cleaning and maintaining the lanes. I have bowled at other lanes in the area and must say they are not as well run. I highly recommend them.

Who is the obnoxious bald guy behind the desk? Rating hanover zero stars fro awful customer service.

Comment Date: 4/10/2011 Name: Anonymous
terrible management, never around, they don’t care about the leagues at all. They are all to busy flirting amongst each other! I though maybe it was a brothel and not a Family bowling alley!

This place s*cks and it hard to tell the bowlers from the manager.

I don’t think Hanover Lanes will be closing anytime soon. Just stopped in recently for the first time in a while, and it looks like they have made some major renovations. The lounge and snack bar have been completely gutted, and replaced with a very nice bar and a Pizza Hut Express/wing concession. The battered old control desk has been rebuilt and moved to a totally different location on the other side of the concourse. They have also apparently given up on the idea of putting Chinese restaurants in front of the building, and converted that space into a rather large arcade. I have to say that the place is looking pretty good now.

Comment Date: 1/22/2010 Name: familylady
People that complain about every little thing need to just stop already! That’s why decent places just give up….it’s disheartening. I would rather go here than certain place in surrounding areas. Ever go to Essex County? Get a bullet-proof vest and flame-thrower so you are somewhat prepared. Want to bowl without looking over my shoulder to make sure my family is safe!

Comment Date: 4/26/2009 Name: Mr Who
They do not care about the league bowler, these are the people that are there day in and day out. They will put a bowler next to you right from the street, even though you are bowling for money. The shot stinks, the oil machine is broken down and probably 20 yrs old, and when you complain, all you hear is “well Nationwide says this, Nationwide says that”…complete sell out – no compassion for the league bowler, just money. Very sad.

Since this is the only place in and around Hanover, worst customer service ever, I would never go there again.

Love this place. Clean, great staff.. would like more oil in the lanes. I love going hear during my lunch break. I also love the fact that I don’t need a bullet proof vest, unlike hudson lanes.

i want to say that hanover lanes is wonderful!!!!!!!!!! great staff!! the manager antonio is great! really miss when he had the snack bar!! and to all the negative comments. get a life!!

Comment Date: 10/16/2007 Name: Anonymous
Whatever happened to David Allen caterers???? Their food was great and they were very professional! Now, whoopee, there’s a blackboard with burgers, fries, ad nauseum written on it AND they’re never fully stocked…and not too clean looking…That’s where I USED to have my dinner on bowling night last year…NOT anymore…I go elsewhere first. Also, what happened with the oil on the lanes…we have a lot of high average bowlers who’s averages have plummeted…our league has been there for a long time, I really think it’s time to look for a new alley. I DO like the new bartender though!!

Comment Date: 8/30/2007 Name: Joan T
I, too, enjoy league bowling at Hanover. Since they went to synthetic lanes, I have to say the shot (at least for the league I’m in) is fair and equitable. If you are a “serious league bowler” you can adjust to anything, easy or difficult. I agree that Antonio busts his A** to run the place, and it’s not an easy job. My average jumped 11 pins from two years ago to last season in my league. Coincidence? I think not! Enjoy your bowling and quit your griping!

Comment Date: 7/10/2007 Name: Jon
Shame on you all for having nothing better to do but disrespect a man for working and providing for his family. I’ve known this man for awhile and let me tell you, he is a great person and the food was great! If you get to read this Antonio, (if you remember me) hope that you’ve since retired, hey if not, let me know where you’ve moved to & I’ll stop in to say hello Man! Jon

Comment Date: 6/28/2007 Name: JANET
What is with all of the negative comments. I frequent Hannover Lanes quite often and have always had a WONDERFUL time. The staff is very helpful. As far as Antonio’s snack shop, the people that were working it were always very POLITE and the food was good.
Since June of 06 the snack shop has gone down hill. Wish they were still there but everything changes. I wish them well!
All of you negative moron’s need to get a real life instead of bashing someone else for what you could probably not do without having a break down if you really saw your children in action!!!!!!

Hanover lanes is the best…
Wonderful management

Comment Date: 6/27/2007 Name: Antonio
Who are you april of 2006. I love the attention but I can’t take credit. Antonio’s Snack Shop Inc
closed june 2006. I fed your kid plenty of chicken by that time to enjoy a stiff drink in my hot tub. hey maybe we will see eachother at your next family outing. Dont be mad at me if your life has you online with a box of animal crackers trying to come after possibly the most accomplished men in the entire bowling world. I have slaved so that slobs like yourself can have a clean family environment to enjoy. If you want to compare me to anyone please dont make it that sloppy second A.J. cafe that followed me in 2007. I have spent years raising money for organizations, helping the people who need it. I dont care what some savage has to say about me. Perhaps I can earn your respect back. I think I will start selling Slim Fast. G.S.

you can check out www.nationwidebowling.com and I believe they have detailed information on birthday and corporate parties there.

Comment Date: 5/1/2007 Name: Jan
I’d like to have a birthday party for my kid at this alley. When are they going to post a picture of it/eating area. I’d like to know how big and alot of people are saying how expensive the food is. I mean come on, how much can the food really cost?

Comment Date: 4/18/2007 Name: Anonymous
I agree with the other customers when it comes to Antonio’s “snack shack”. Who runs it anyway, is there management? How dare them charge what they do for their food. The staff looks dirty and they are not nice, they seem irritated, especially the brown haired girl and balding guy in his 20’s. No sir, never again!

Comment Date: 1/12/2007 Name: Jeremy
A lot of these comments are ridiculous.
1. Who cares about the food? I go there to bowl.
2. The lanes are very nice.
3. Whoever claimed they don’t care about league bowlers obviously does not bowl in a league there because that’s so untrue.
I wouldn’t bowl anywhere else in North Jersey.

Comment Date: 7/8/2006 Name: Anonymous
The food is fine however it is extremely overpriced and staff are rather rude. Still a decent place for casual bowlers.

Comment Date: 2/25/2006 Name: T&M;
I love to go there to bowl. Hanover Lanes is the best!

Comment Date: 2/22/2006 Name: A Parent
The way I’ve been able to parent thus far, I still have influence over my children’s activities. Hopefully that will continue until they learn to make good decisions on their own. That said, bowling is a great family activity. It truly can be fun for all members of the clan. Unfortunately, when you bring your family someplace for a couple of hours and there is food being served, it is very difficult not to buy a snack or a meal. Hanover Lanes should have a little mercy on their customers by doing a better job with the food concession. It’s worse than any Little League ‘snack shack’ I’ve ever had the displeasure to do business with. If Hanover Lanes doesn’t see the economic opportunity in running a healthy deli-like operation, then please, change the oil in the fryer every now and again at the very least. I think it’s the same oil since my parents thought bowling was a good idea.

Comment Date: 1/9/2006 Name: Anonymous
The food is horrible and I would rather go to Chuck E Cheese’s and I am 14 years old!!!!

Comment Date: 9/4/2005 Name: Anonymous
One of the worst houses in the Morris County area. If you are a league bowler stay away from this house because they don’t care about the league bowler. The open bowler is more important to them. Antonio’s Snack Shop is horrendous in terms of service, I’ve never seen such unfriendly service. I once overheard a conversation between Antonio and two men about girls that were bowling. It was one of the most disgusting conversations I have ever heard. I will not ever be going back to there as a result. Highly disappointed with Hanover Lanes and their staff.

Comment Date: 4/8/2005 Name: Anonymous
Leagues in this house use a low grade of oil. They are oiled but it disappears quickly. A good house if you are not a serious bowler.

Comment Date: 12/31/2004 Name: KN
This is one of the better houses in the area. If you get there before 6:00 on a weeknight, games are only $2.50 per game. The place is clean and very well maintained. Great for leagues and great for open bowling.

Got the top package and felt like I did not get my money’s worth..The pizza was horrible, u were suppose to get decorative plates for the cake all we got was plain white ones..The table cloth was blue for a girl’s party..I would not reccommend them to anyone..

I love this place. Me and my friends always come here on a Friday night for Unlimited bowling. Great price and the music is awesome. The dude at the front counter is equally as awesome. We left Strike and Spare a few years back to come here cause they were packed, and we’ve been coming ever since. Great place to come on a Friday to have a night out with friends.

Had my daughters birthday here in December 2009 on one of the coldest days of the year. It was snowing outside. We were given a party room that was SO COLD that all of the children and their parents were forced to wear their coats. Besides the obvious lack of heat,We soon realized why it was so cold in the room. Snow had been steadily entering into the room from underneath the door in the room that led outside. We complained to the staff but got indifference. I wrote a letter to management but received no response. I will never ever patronize this place again!!!!

There was a shooting at the bowling alley last week. A man was shot multiples times and died. I would stay away from this place! And certainly keep my children away

Friday morning, me and my wife walked into Stelton Lanes and booked our 8 year old son’s B’day Party to take place on the 3rd following Sunday at 1:30 PM. We paid the deposit and went home. The same day after-noon, we went to all my son’s friends places and put the invitation cards in their mail boxes.
Monday late in morning, the manager from Stelton Lanes called us to let us know that we can not have our B’day part at 1:30 PM, instead, rescheduled for 3:30 PM because of some League playing bowling during that hour. We were shocked and deeply disappointed. We told them that “you can not do this” because we have already distributed the invitation cards for the B’day Party starting at 1:30PM and not to mention that, in some cases, we even spoke to the Parents to get a confirmation. But the Manager by the name Diane simply did not care about our inconvenience and all that efforts that we already put into this. Instead, she (Diane) commanded that we can not have our party at 1:30PM and she can not do anything about the inconvenience. We told them that it’s totally unethical on their part to change our party hours just like that. She din’t seem to care a bit. She did not have any professional courtesy to resolve this in an amicable manner.
We are totally unhappy with what happened to us. I do not recommend this place if you need to have a kids party. They have a highly unprofessional and unethical staff and they are not kid friendly.

Bowled one season at this dump, terrible atmosphere, terrible customer service, really rude guy at the front counter, GREAT SHOT AND PRO SHOP and the BAR. Maintence on the lanes is highly recommended for lanes 5-6 because every week they would break down. ALWAYS!

Comment Date: 10/30/2008 Name: Concerned Parent
I had the misfortune of attending a birthday party there with my child one weekend. To begin with, the place was dirty and looked in need of an update (stained carpets, dirty tables, etc) Then I noticed an unkempt man that was lurking around the bar. I thought he might have been a homeless person, but then he went behind the bar and turned on the tv, so I am assuming he is an employee. The way he was staring at the children bowling made me very uncomfortable. I used the rest room and all I can say to the owner is…please get a cleaning service. There was trash on the floor, the garbage was overflowing, and it smelled. The pizza they served for the party, in addition to being cold, tasted like cardboard. I felt sorry for the parents that hosted their child’s party there. My advice? Book your party elsewhere!

Comment Date: 10/2/2008 Name: Messy
I’ll say this, this bowling alley is a bit tight to hold some tournaments. But it’s honestly one of the best small houses I ever went to. You have the lil strip mall and even the golf course right there. It’s easy to get there and around there. I bowled quite a few times. In a few tournaments and what I realized. Drenched with oil and after coming from a house with a dry shot. These lanes were a bit rough. Yet I also come from a big BIG bowling alley. Overall, I give this bowling alley a high rating.

Comment Date: 8/31/2008 Name: Please Read.
It has become very apparent that this site is no longer for actual comments good or bad about Stelton, as is now focused on bashing them. Everyone is not going to have the best experience, just as they are not going to have the worst. Lets try to get beyond the personal bashing, name calling and childish behavior and keep it about what is should be. There is no reason, good or bad, that you cant convey your experience in an adult and respectful manner. Its time to grow up everyone.

I read comment after comment and I honestly believe all of this is false. I travel every week across the U.S . to different states and different bowling alleys and trust me you think this is bad. I have seen ten times worse. First, the selection is very good. If nothing fits and you go all the time buy a damn ball and stop being so cheap. Second, the customer service isn’t bad at all. If you get negativity then its just because you are giving them a hard time because I know i NEVER received bad assistance. They always accomodate what is available. Then you got the phone call {deleted}. When you call and they say available lanes after 9pm, then be there by 9pm to get put onto a lane. They wouldn’t lie about that. I never had a issue neither should you. Birthday parties always run on time and get the full service. I attended parties from there. Again never a problem. Prices are always cheaper there then anywhere else. Oh and the best is when everyone compliments brunswick zone or whatever.. I’ve been there many of times. To be honest I don’t get full treatment there at all. I think its better at Stelton because the people think they are {deleted} at Carolier or brunswick zone or whatever you call it. So I think the people who criticize Stelton really, need a hobby.

Comment Date: 3/19/2008 Name: pisc cutie
Do you think the manangement actually reads this? I’m not sure they do….I don’t see anything changing about the place…staff is STILL rude, they have like 12 year olds working in the snack shop, where is the owner? Does anyone know who the owner is?

Comment Date: 3/8/2008 Name: Company Outing
My workplace had bowling at Stelton Lanes one evening a few months ago. It was the first and LAST time the company will ever spend its money there. The manager was extrememly rude, acting as if she did not want our business. In addition, the lanes would not open bar until we repeatedly asked the manager. THe manager also would not give us soda! Imagine that… a place of business that relies on customers, not providing any type of service to the customers!

Comment Date: 3/6/2008 Name: Rockhead
I actually like this place. There’s some attitudes at the front desk. One of the woman there is a real a******. But the proshop guy is great. As for open lanes, it’s all tight Friday and Saturday Night no matter where you go. Two weekends in a row I couldn’t get into Stelton or Brunswick. No what? I didn’t cry. I just went back on Sunday. Stelton is small, so there is a better chance you will have to wait then some other places.

Comment Date: 3/4/2008 Name: Always disappointed
Don’t waste your time. It’s conveniently located, but what good is that if every other time you go there, they can’t accommodate you. Even when you call ahead to make sure the lanes will open up for public bowling after 9:30 on a Saturday night (and they assure you they will), you get there to find out there aren’t any lanes, or the place is “closed for a private party.” What’s up with that? The employees don’t know when there is no public bowling available–on the same day you call? They just don’t care. Please suggest another place for me. Thanks.

Look! Screw Stelton and go to Brunswick lanes people. The atmosphere is hip, great DJ for cosmic bowling, and if you talk to the bartender, he will hook you up!!! Oh and the rude front desk lady probably needs to get some. That’ll calm her {deleted} down

Comment Date: 2/9/2008 Name: Thanks but no thanks

This last comment is from a WORKER (Employee)? Could it be more sarcastic? A nice, polite, simple explanation would have been so much better. Obviously, just goes to show you the rudeness of the employees. (I’m surprised they took the time away from talking on their cell phone to actually write a response here!) Enough said.

Comment Date: 2/7/2008 Name: Worker.
Too bad on saturdays we don’t have any lanes because from 11:00 – 5:00 we have birthday parties. Actually yea we do sometimes have some open at the end but we NEVER let anyone prebowl or postbowl their league games during birthday parties because as the parties are going on THE LIGHTS ARE OUT. We have the cosmic lights bowling, therefore you can’t. Oh wait! why don’t you try from 5-10 Hmm.. maybe because we have league bowling that takes up the whole house. So please don’t try to critize the place when your completely wrong, it doesn’t look good.

Comment Date: 1/31/2008 Name: Edison, NJ
The absolute worst. Read what you want, but when the staff isn’t rude, its probably by accident. My son has hosted, and we have been to probably 4 or 5 birthday parties there. Don’t expect mother goose, and I’ll leave it at that.
We joined a league (Adult/Child) because my son really wanted to try bowling. Well..long story, short, make sure you don’t miss your scheduled game, bacause they will be right there asking you for the money, but don’t even try to think about pre/post bowling because unless you can make your schedule meet thiers, forget it. I have the emails to prove it.
The last time I called at 11:00am on a Saturday to try and make up some games we missed. I was told point blank, there were no lanes available ALL DAY. Nice….11:00am and there we would be no lanes available the entire day. And note would be bowlers, this was not the first time.
It is sad because it is very convienient, and I like a smaller venue, but not this one. Stay away!!

Comment Date: 1/23/2008 Name: Anonymous
Staff is extremely rude and uncaring. Maybe it’s because the manager’s kids all work there, who knows? I guess when Mommy gives you a job you really don’t have to do anything except talk to your friends on your cell phone. Spent quite a while with the Manager discussing a party I was thinking of having there..she was absolutely no help whatsoever, when you could find her working there! Even though they renovated a few years ago, place still looks dingy and dirty. I think the owner needs to step in and re-evaluate his employees and maybe give the mamger position someone who needs a job and would actually enjoy working there. Maybe a “people person”? Just a thought….. Brunswick bowling it is for me!!!!

Stelton Lanes is about 1 mile from where I live so the convenience has made it the place where we go most often. BUT, after back-to-back visits where I actually walked out after telling off the front desk lady for her incredible rudeness (she really needs a new career) I will never go back. In fact, I came accross this site just now while searching for another lane to go to and felt the need to post. Other than that rude front desk lady and the over-priced bowling for kids, I have no problems with this place.

If your going to go to stelton make sure this kid is working, I think his name is Jerry. He is the kindest, most hard-working kid I’ve ever seen focus on a job. And that’s not all! He’s wraps are to die for. They are just unbelievable! Everytime I go there and order food while he’s working during my league he does NOT disappoint. He is also so helpful, patient, and respectful to ALL customers. I’ll tell you one thing he is going to be some great cook. Well he technically already is, but man he can cook! So yea if you go to stelton ask for Jerry to cook your food cause the food he cooks just makes you think your in heaven. Man he’s like some cooking god!

I just have to say that a worker there, I think his name is Jerry or something, works the snackbar and is the BEST WRAP MAKER EVER! If you go to stelton lanes and you’re hungry order a wrap he will not disappoint. Plus not only is his wraps are phenominal he’s kind and considerate as well as he does his job. He keeps the snackbar clean and makes sure the customer is happy. You would think you would have to make reservations or call ahead to be able to order and eat the food he makes but nope, just place your order and a couple minutes later it’s like your eating in HEAVEN, THANK GOD FOR JERRY!

Heard someone is (or will be) building a new bowling alley by behind the Pines Manor somewhere. I will be out of here like a shot.

The next level of bowling is on the rise, Sport Bowling, and Stelton Lanes helped us on our jouney. This center made it easy to HOST our League. They were professional and courteous as we bowled there today. Not all Centers are willing to commit to putting out a Sport Shot Condition. We will be there one more time this season and next year as well! Thank you for helping us achieve our goal. Coach J Petraccoro Jr Gold League Director.

I’ve been going to this center for 19 years. I have seen it upgraded countless times, & each time it still remains the same. Maybe it’s time for an overhaul of the back-end and new pin setting machines with new ball returns. Time to take out the original AMF pin spotters of the 1950’s and modernize the place into the space age. The interior was just re-modernized recently (past two yrs.) and did a fantastic job of making the place look presentable for this day & age. Outside of the building is just the same old deplorable looking thing it has been for twenty yrs. The staff I have delt with has been mixed over time; I love it when the daytime mechanic (Henry AKA Capt. Schmucko) yells at me for throwing the ball too hard and (actually) breaking the WOODEN wall at the back-end. (I love it when I do damage) They tell me it costs almost a $1,000 to replace. Then, the new pins become garbage after two months of play because the machines eat them constantly. My brand-new ball got a nice scuff mark on it after the third frame of play; I took revenge by kicking the ball return so hard it didn’t go back into place immedieatly. If they took the machines and replaced them with modern ones, as well as new pins, then it would be a professional place to bowl at. But, as the old saying goes: “You can’t shine …”

It’s a shame that people have nothing better to do than bash others. I’ve been bowling at stelton for over 18 years. Before Nadine came along this place was a dirty, run down center. The place is clean, well run and the scores have been phenomenal. Well done

Comment Date: 4/30/2006 Name: Anonymous
If you ever want to get through to speak to Nadine, You might want to book your phone call MONTHS in advance. SHE IS NEVER THERE! How is she the General Manager when she is only there for 4 hours a day, IF THAT! They need to get someone in there that has an actual interest in the bowling alley, not just a pay check!

Comment Date: 4/23/2006 Name: Anonymous
Actually the razor blade story is true. Why would I make that up? That would be a pretty stupid thing to do. I am assuming whoever posted that it is false probably works their or knows the owners. But believe what you want just please be sure to check your shoes before putting them on. Thanks

This was one of the worst bowling experiences I have witnessed. The manager was extremely RUDE. She has no customer service skills whatsoever and is unhelpful in assisting customers. I would suggest people go to another bowling alley such as Brunswick Zone where you’ll be treated with much more respect.

I have also been a patron of Stelton Lanes as well as managing a league there. The league is made of handicap people. We were looking for a bowling alley that would accomadate us as well as give us a fairly good price. We approached Diane and she has been more than kind to all of us. She has been understanding as well as compassionate to all our bowlers. She gives them her undivided attention as well as her heart to all our kids. She makes them feel special. They love her and look forward to bowling every weekend just to tell her their scores and accomplishments. She is great with these kids and we appreciate everything she has done for our league. Diane jokes with them, listens to their everyday issues and gives them love. Thank You Diane for providing a league for our kids to bowl and enjoy their own Special Olympics.

I have recently fell upon this website and I am amazed at the name bashing of these workers. My child has bowled on the Juniors league for several years at Stelton Lanes and not once have I heard any vulgar language from any of the workers including Diane. She is very respectful to the kids, helps out her fellow employees in the snackbar and desk when it starts getting a little crazy. She tells the kids about tournaments, upcoming events and praises them when they get a good score. Whenever, the parents ask questions about the league or any matter that involves the bowling alley, I have never received any negativity. Everything was a postive answer and if she doesn’t know, she will find out and get back to you. I have even dealt with her in the summer months with the kids program and whenever there was a problem she took care of it no questions asked. She makes sure the staff is doing their job respectfully, therefore she is an asset to the lanes. I know she is good with kids and parents alike, I have seen if first hand.

I’ve been a patron of Stelton Lanes for so many years I hate to tell you because you’ll know my age. Stelton has always been a great place to go and bowl and the atmosphere and employees were always so kind and personable, until recently when Diane started to manage the Lanes. She is rude and can have very obscene language. If she doesn’t like you she is very rude and God forbid she cracks a smile and says “Thank you” to the customers. I can’t believe how someone like her is still in the position she is in. After a few times experiencing this I have never returned to Stelton. If Stelton ever wants to succeed as a business they need to get rid of Diane immediately, unless they are expecting a constant turn around of the patrons. To all the Piscataway and Middlesex Bowlers, there are other Lanes to go to who have no problem treating you with the respect you deserve as a paying customer.
Thank you

It’s so funny when you look on this site. You see entries from people like Justin Conover, the guy who had the story about the messed up balls, and the pro shop owner being rude to him. It’s no one’s problem if you can’t get your way in matters and then throw tantrums until you do. It’s even funnier that you still didn’t get what you wanted, even after all of that stuff was done. Or still other stories about razor blades in shoes, and nasty counter staff, or people talking with their “boys”. I find all of these stories offensive and untrue. I have been a loyal patron of Stelton Lanes for about 22 years now. I’ve seen many people come and go in that place. I am here to say, the current staff at Stelton Lanes, are the best that I have seen yet. Now, think what you want, I know this to be true. Some of the people that have been working there for years, and are truly dedicated to their jobs. Seeing some of the people on this site having their “horrible experiences” first hand, and then reading the edited version that they post on this site to make it a “woe is me” story, just makes me laugh. Please do not believe the comments on this site that seem to be overly negative. I’m not saying that people don’t have bad days every now and again, WE ALL DO, but NONE of the workers there “hate” their jobs. I personally hope that the managers read this. I say to her, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. I’ve seen you turn that place around from a hole in the wall, to the family recreation center that it is today. Don’t worry guys, You’ll always have people like us to call your patrons, and most of all, your friends!

Comment Date: 1/31/2006 Name: Anonymous

Comment Date: 1/30/2006 Name: Dennis Johnson
Ok, if you going to read any comment about a bowling alley, READ THIS ONE! All of the accusations on this site about Stelton Lanes are TOTALLY FALSE!! The staff has been nothing more than helpful any time that I have presented them with an issue. I have had MANY birthday parties and have referred many others to the center and all of them have been completly satisfied. The entire staff welcomes you into the center and makes you feel as if you’re a part of the Stelton Lanes family! If you visit any center this year, COME HERE! You won’t be sorry!!

Comment Date: 1/4/2006 Name: Adam
I just wanted to let everyone know that when my friends and I went there he found a razor blade in his shoe. We could not believe it and we told the staff and they really did not care at all. They thought nothing of it. So we left right after that and have not returned since.

Upon arriving at Stelton Lanes I was disheartened by the unfortunate and utterly shameless display of lethargy exhibited by the staff. After having waited patiently for 46 minutes, I was finally greeted by the staff member behind the counter–after they graciously finished their cell phone conversation with their “boy.” I paid what I felt was an unfair price for 3 games and decided to leave, before the third game was actually finished because the gate came down on the sixth frame, and ultimately froze in place. After having appealed to the single staff member behind the desk, numerous times, I was told to wait my turn. Twenty-five minutes later, after no assistance or communication from the staff whatsoever, I approached the counter again expecting at the very least, civility. But before I was even able to speak, the employee broke free from another cell phone conversation to snap at me that the malfunction was “not my problem.” I can forgive young people for maladapted behavior and even lack of respect for elders, but the ownership’s negligence is damnable. And one more sentence.

Comment Date: 11/16/2005 Name: Dan
Stelton lives up to all the bad press they get here. My girlfriend waited for a simple order of fries at the snack bar for 30 minutes. This is due to the fact that the woman who runs the front desk ALSO runs the snack bar. Shouldn’t there be at least one more person in that picture? Maybe they’re trying to save money. For what I don’t know because the lanes are horrible, you damn near break your hip when you get up to the line and you don’t have any slide. The ball selection is crap so no money saved there. Hmmmm maybe its the rates? NO! $24.99 per hour! So where’s the money going? Do yourself a favor, keep driving past Stelton until you hit 514 in edison and make a left. Once you cross over into Woodbridge, stop at the Hess and ask how to get to Majestic Lanes on Route 9 in Hopelawn. THERE you WILL have a much better experience and start to forget the Auschwitz that was STELTON LANES.

I went and bowled in Stelten Lane in summer 2004 and I bowled really good. What I like about Stelton – I feel the lane condion is good and they got good side boards. The staff was okay, I feel no staff member was being rude to me.

Comment Date: 8/18/2005 Name: SHAWN
The staff there tells you there are no open lanes whenever they don’t know how to use the computer. I see about 50% of the lanes open and I see 20 people waiting in line to bowl, yet there are no open lanes. This place is horrible. Imagine if these people grow up and get real jobs. Um. there are no open runways to land or take off. BOOM planes start crashing. If the manager of this place reads this, LEARN HOW TO RUN A BUSINESS!

Comment Date: 8/16/2005 Name: Unsatisfied Bowler!
Have had a couple of open bowling experiences at Stelton–not very good. House is very small and you have to wait FOREVER to get a lane. Counter staff are nasty and are terribly inconvenienced if you ask them how much longer you have to wait for a lane. Forget about bowling with a 5 man team – no place to sit and if there is a place to sit there are a ton of kids running around the place bumping into you! Bartender was too busy flirting with other customers to serve other patrons. Do yourself a favor — find someplace else to bowl you’ll be much happier!

Bowled for 2 years at Stelton Lanes in leagues. First year was ok – good league, the employees are all friends being that I go there so much so no big deal there. Lanes are prepared the worst in central Jersey. Equipment is eh but I have had them mess up 3 balls on me. The pro shop owner is very rude and really doesn’t care about the customers. Many have thought that the house and the pro shop owner were in together on preparing the lanes so poorly just so he could sell new equipment. The managment is just as bad. They replaced one of my balls that the lanes messed up but the other one they had me take to the pro shop there and he messed it up even worse. When brought to their attention they said they had nothing to do with it. This place could be very good if it just got some people in there who actully give a damn.

4.Bad selection of balls.. could not find one that fits my hand.

I just called them for lane availability and the woman who answered was very drone in tone and not exactly shouting out the good name of Stelton. Very miserable staff. I will still go just for the entertainment of being as miserable, unhelpful and impolite to the woman I just spoke to. Why do people have to be like that?

Use to be a decent place to bowl like 15 yrs ago. Now it looks like an outdated run of the mill bowling center with questionable clientele and staff. Word to the wise, keep a close eye on not dropping any amount of cash from your pocket…cause someone will quickly pick it up and tell you they didn’t see anything. Anyone with class should steer clear of this place and choose a center in another county.

After not bowling for approximately 35 years, I recently joined a women’s league and bowled at the Eagle Rock Bowling Center. The Center is a bit dated but is clean and the lanes are well maintained. Of course, the folks that worked there, Greg and Joe, are wonderful and helpful, and I have high regard for Mickey in the pro shop; he is a real “pro”. I’m glad now that it’s a smoke-free environment, I can enjoy bowling and at the Eagle Rock Bowling Center. Thank you Greg, Joe and Mickey for making my return to bowling a pleasure.

The bathrooms seem to hold up ok when I use them. The lanes are in fair-good shape, although I think my nephew Robert Mushtare could have added another six or seven 900 series, had he bowled at Eagle Rock Lanes when was 12 years old.

I can not believe the nasty comments about these lanes. My son joined the USBC youth league last year at these lanes. Thanks to their care for children, my son has a 170 average after 2 years of bowling. The manager Lance is the best. He will explain what it is that you need to do to perfect your game (in terms anyone can understand).
I have bowled at these lanes for over 30 years.
The staff rocks.
Come on in and see for youself – heck join a league while you are at it!

I’ve been going to this bowling alley for over 15 years, not because its a good center, but because I live down the street. I know all the ends and outs. To those that had a good time there, you lucked out. The staff aren’t professional and the manager Lance is a jerk. Snack bar is no good, and the bar is overpriced. The equipment and machines are outdated. There are other great centers with better technology/service…Belleville, East Hanover, Linden….that would be more worth your while.

I wanted to add my comments since seeing all the negative posts I’ve seen. First off there are three sides to every story. Second, my children have beed bowling there in leauges for about 5 years now and the staff have always treated us kindly and with respect. As a matter of fact, one of the senior staff members has taken the time (at no charge) to work with my 10 year old son, encourages him and gives him confidence to be the great bowler that he is. I would not take my children anywhere else. This is old school style bowling or should I say, a real bowling alley. Their pro shop is great and I do all my purchases there. So keep this in mind when reading all the posts.

Comment Date: 6/13/2008 Name: Sally
I tend to agree with the ‘rude comments.’ Most of the staff don’t realize that they need to be polite. A smile, a hello, how can I help you? does wonders! They must realize they are in a “service industry” and, as such, are in the customer “service” business. Many people I know go to different lanes fro two reasons: the cleanliness (or should I say, the lack thereof) and the attitude of the staff. Both those things are fixable.
For the price they charge, there needs to be an overhaul!

Oiling is inconsistent. One lane is the Sahara and the next one in the same pair is the Exxon Valdez. Lanes 1 thru 6 are horrible. House generally doesn’t reward good shots. So many 10 pins should be renamed, The “TapHouse.

The resturant is almost always closed. The place is starting to get very old. I understand that Brunswick is leaving NJ or at least Lakewood so they are not putting a dime into it. The old owners are taking the center. OWNERS—Please go down to KINGPIN Lanes in Egg Harbour and take a look at what private owners can do. This place needs some money put into it. Miss Jane and Coach Mike still as always do a hell of a job with the large and thriving USBC Youth leagues and the center is the only one around that does the USBC Experiance. If you have kids and what them to play in league Miss Jane is the one to call.

Pro shop is very small but very good service and with competative prices. Food in lanes bar is pretty bad and highly priced, better inside at the bar (Finegans) attaced to the lanes. They are however very good with the kids in the USBC Youth leagues and have one of the biggest youth programs going. Local schools are very compatative and many get there start there.

Lakewood is ok but ehhh, not nearly as nice as the other brunswick zones. i could never figure out why this place was never promoted to brunswick zone status. not nearly as clean or well kept as the zones. but just as expensive. this place is overall fine but seems to have a worn-out feel to it, as i normally expect more of brunswick. with that said i like toms river better- much better, nicer and cleaner and slightly cheaper.

I bowl in the league here. What I think is unfair is the outside food policy. When we had food from the outside we were told to get rid of it. But the next week and a few times after you would see the workers get outside food delivered. When we complained everyone said that they didn’t see anything. Now our league saw it. And another thing the waitress…… Oh what can I say about her. She hangs out at the other end of the alley talking while were waiting for her. She’s hardly at our end.

This is a really nice center. Well kept-up. The lanes are great.

These comments are about your lanes in Lakewood, NJ. Most bowlers have become very disappointed in how league bowlers are being treated. If a bowler walks into the lanes with a cup of coffee or piece of candy we are told we must throw it away. We are told no outside food or drinks in the bowling lanes. I have been bowling for 20 years, throughout these years during the holidays and birthdays we have brought cake and cookies into the bowling center with no problem. Now it seems we are being harassed. Bowling was always a time to get together with friends and family to have fun. Now if you have a piece a candy on the table, we are being told to put it away or it will be confiscated. This is just crazy, we feel like we are being treated unfairly and like school children. I hope that management will address the complaint immediately.

Our Friday nite leauge moved back to LODI LANES and the FRIDAY LEAGUE in T BOWL folded. Even with $10000 added T BOWL couldn’t keep it there. With this change I’m now a happy camper. Good luck to all.

This place is a joke – owned by a moron, but the manager and the staff are cool. The owner is (simply put) – a lying & backstabbing, loser. Good luck if you bowl there on Friday nights – The league will get screwed over-and that is a guarantee!

Comment Date: 7/14/2011 Name: Anonymous
My lge is supposed to bowl in T-BOWL this coming season on Fridays, with a $10000 added money based on 24 teams but now I hear we only have a possible 16. I don’t think my team will bowl without a signed contract . I hear Lodi Lanes is going to re-open, the out side and the parking lot are done. Can’t wait.

Deanna down below. Why should the bowling alley reimburse you for your phone that YOU lost? If you feel thats justifued, than maybe i’ll go there every 6 months or so and lose my phone so they can buy me a new one too. haha Ive never heard such a complaint and demand, get with the times fool. Ive bowled there for years and the staff is always friendly and helpful.

T-Bowl does not have an official website at this time. The page that you might be referring to is our site that is currently under construction. We at T-Bowl do not take reservations because we are first come first serve

Trouble accessing website. The owner should seriously consider a website that is user freindly and has bowling info. Just FYI better for business. **NOTE** We at B2U are not aware of a website for T-Bowl Lanes. Bowling2u.com is simply a listing of bowling centers across the USA. We are not affiliated with any bowling center – B2U Staff**

Like most – there are good and not so good things here. There is one young man named Mark who is the most helpful person we’ve come across in a long time. Hard working and pleasant. The place is very clean – the snack bar food is bowling alley food but fresh, tasty & reasonable. The place is very clean. It is expensive though, but what isn’t anymore? It would be good if they threw in a free game every now and then – especially when not busy.

Comment Date: 4/26/2009 Name: anonymous
once when i went bowling there to practise my lane got messed up. but that happens everywhere. so they gave us our money back and 5 free games each. it was a good deal and it is a nice place

Comment Date: 12/20/2008 Name: Anon
Laser bowling has really gone bad in the past year. Why would I pay $6.00 a game and $4.00 shoes for just 1 game? And I can call the songs out before they come on! It might be a nice place to visit, but not somewhere you want to go every week. I went there for forever, but now it’s just boring.

I do not know what she is talking about. I am a black family of four and when i want to t bowl with my family the people were so nice to me and my family. they also gave us 50 percent off of our total bill. So i do not know what she is talking about. They also ordered and paid for our KFC

Comment Date: 9/2/2008 Name: DEEANNA BRIGGS – PASSAIC COUNTY PROBATION
This bowling alley has the most rude and incompetent employees I have ever seen. I found them to be nasty to the customers of color and lax in their duties. I lost a cellphone there and they were not willing to reimburse me for the phone and stated that it would cost too much to have the floors ripped up. Then I was told that it was ridiculous that I, me, dropped my phone into the lane, when I clearly stated that I was assisting my 3 yr-old daughter at a children’s bowling party. I was also told that they could not take my word for the cost of the phone, yet I was asked for the make and model of my phone to be given to the owner so that the cost would be verified. I can assure you that I will not be patronizing this bowling alley again.

Comment Date: 6/13/2008 Name: Jersey Bowler
Way easy shot. If you check the Passaic County average book you’ll notice that every County high average is from this house. But if you want to boost your bowling morale than this is the place. A real challenge would be Van Houten Lanes which has a nice shot but tough never the less!

Whoever who owns this business is obviously there to make money. Now after saying that they also need to realize that if they lowered their game price and had more loyal customers at the end of the year they would gross a larger profit. Today my children and their friends wanted to bowl, we went elsewhere and saved more than a few dollars by doing so. There is an old saying that you end up with more money by selling Chevrolets than Rolls Royces (it’s all about volume).

I bowl in 2 seperate leagues here and i couldn’t be happier with the lanes. Pat Antonelli’s pro shop has anything you could want, despite its small size, and he offers people coaching and tips FOR FREE as well as lessons. All i have to say to everyone saying that it is too expensize is to join a league (which gets you $1 off practice game) or use any of the numerous coupon found in papers or entertainment books. I rank it as 4.5/5

Comment Date: 8/29/2005 Name: Lori Vazquez
Very nice and clean atmosphere, overpriced though.

Comment Date: 7/31/2005 Name: karl
This place is a good place to bowl but if the price wasn’t so high I might go there more often…they say you get what you pay for, but this place takes it to the extreme..the food is ok and the beer is even more expensive..

Comment Date: 11/18/2004 Name: Tom Maggiore
I’ve only been here at the new location once since the old T-bowl closed. I’m glad they re-opened because they did a very nice job! All across the board very nice bar, snack bar, clean rest rooms. A Mr. Antonelli runs a small Pro shop too! Call ahead for open bowling though. This is a league house-during the week – it’s wall to wall & crowded on the weekends too! The concourse is way too close to the bowling area which finds people wandering into the bowlers’ area. And the decor is a bit soulless and industrial looking. But I just bowled there once, like I said, and it was a very hitable shot. (Maybe a bit of a heavy oil pattern) Oh well, I guess I’d go back as a league bowler but it just isn’t a family oriented kind of place. 4 out of 5.

Comment Date: 8/27/2004 Name: Eric Thomas Merriweather III
This is a rip off… So expensive! Well, the fries are ok but I can’t afford it… and the lanes are too oily sometimes. Did I mention this place is a rip off? Oh yeah, it’s expensive too…

This is a great bowling alley for leagues. It has great lanes and good food. Unfortunately, the price of a game is extremely high.
Overall: 4

King Pin Recreation Comments

King Pins is a nice bowling alley and all. I love the couches and modern equipment. The only thing I hate with a passion is how they always cluster all the open bowlers together on one end while there are 20+ lanes empty on the other side. I know they have to prepare for leagues but there were no leagues expected for hours! Once several years ago I requested a lane on the end where I’d have some personal space (just a few lanes away from other open bowlers) and the guy very rudely said “No, you go in the middle with everyone else!” Which has since left a bad taste in my mouth about the place. Normally I’d go to Di-Donato Lanes or Harbor Lanes instead. But if in the area, it is a very nice place to bowl. The lanes definitely seem to score better than most other bowling allies. And its WAY better than Mousetrap Lanes!!

I was reading the 2 most recent comments & I paid special attention to the comment made by the crusher. After doing so, I thought maybe I was too tough on King Pin Lanes in my most recent comment about them. I somewhat cursed out King Pin Lanes because of the one bad run in I had with one male desk person. So I just want to tell King Pin Lanes I’m sorry for my last comment & set the record streight. I also have the same list of good things I could say about King Pin Lanes as the crusher. I would also like to add that I hope my last comment didn’t cost King Pin Lanes any business. There are 2 other bowling centers I’ve been to in Atlantic County, Didanato’s & Strike Zone. And although both those centers also have their good points, King Pin Lanes is now my favorite once again. I plan to go to all 3 centers from time to time for practice. But for competitive bowling, I will just go to King Pin Lanes. Their synthetic lanes & their scoring system is tops. I like fearce competition which the scoring system creates & I like bowling on synthetic lanes much better then wood lanes. So King Pin, Please accept my appologie for my last comment, please take this one to heart, & please know I am now a fan of yours & hope this message increases your business. Finally, if that male staff member that some customers were having trouble with is still working for you, Please either teach him how to better relate to the customers, or give him another job, away from the customers, like for example the mecanic behind the lanes. This way, you won’t hear any more bad reports about him. Finally, keep up the great work you’re doing.

I love king pin lanes. I went there one time & I was very pleased with the staff, the lane conditions, the food, & the overall athmosphere.
But what I liked most were the computerized scoring which added the total wood as well as the individualgames, & at the end showed a full recap of all scores bowled in that match. I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere else. It make for more fearce competition, & I love competition. Keep up the great work!

I’ve been to king pin lanes a good number of times, & I’ve got lots of good things to say about them & only one bad thing.
The bad thing is that like champ, I had a bad run in with the same male staff at the control desk. But I don’t believe I should condemn a center just for one incident. On the whole, king pin is my favorite center. I love the set up of the center. I love the food, the lanes are kept in great condition, the computerized scoreing is superb in that it adds the total wood as well as the individual scores, & at the end of the match it shows all scores in summery fashion. The staff for the most part is very friendly & helpful. I will go there frequently. I will also suggest others go there.it’s a great place, in a good location, & it has everything you want in a bowling center. Keep up the good work King Pin.

Here I am again. This time, I’d like to comment on something I saw on TV concerning King Pin Lanes. I saw on a news program, some really excellent bowlers having some kind of a bowling contest with bowlers representing stars from other sports whowere all excellent bowlers. They were all bowling at King Pin Lanes & seemed like they were having a wonderful time. When I 1st saw this, my 1st thought was, “Too bad they’re bowling at a house that might treat them like crap.” But then the longer I watched the show, the more I thought, “Maybe that man I had the problem with, got fired. I don’t see him.”
Well, this is to the management of King Pin Lanes. If you did indeed give that man the ax, & hired someone in his place who knows how to keep the customers happy, “Which it appears you may have done,” I apploud you & if I see some more responces to verify this is the case, & that more of your bowlers are happy vs. unhappy, I may consider giving your center another chance.
I’m saying this because I know it’s hard, “if not impossible,” to fully know the full integrety of the people you hire before hand.
But a good manager is one who will get to the bottom of the situation when he/she 1st finds out about it. I believe you did. I’m just asking for comfirmation in future notes. I’ll be watching.
Oh yes, one last thing. If the person who treated me & my guests like crap sees this note, I just want you to know, I hope you learned your lesson, I hope you get a job somewhere else, (if you have not yet done so,) & I wish you a positive future. Just remember to treat your customers with respect. After all, no customers, no job. Also I hope you treat your co-workers with respect. If you do, you’ll see life will go much better for you & all you come into contact with. I wish you no harm. In fact, I wish you only the best. If you treat your customers & co-workers with respect & get along better with them, I’m sure you’ll get the best. God Bless!

Yes! I am the same champ that praised king pin lanes back on 11-29-11. well, today I take back the praise I gave them. Why? because last Saturday I went there to practice with some friends of mine. We wanted 2 lanes. The person running the control desk was very rude & unfriendly. He not only refused to give us the 2 lanes, he even went as far as to argue with us & made us feel like he was the boss & he cared only about himself.
Needless to say, we went elsewhere. (Strike Zone to be exact. We bowled there on 2 lanes and the difference in treatment was like the difference between night & day. The price was lower, & we paid $3.00 per game instead of $4.25.
As it turns out, I will be going to Strike zone from now on. No more King pin Lanes for me. I also don’t recomend anyone go there unless they don’t mind being treated like crap.

I’ve been to many bowling centers in my life since the age of 6. I’m now 53. This is by far my absolute favorite. I highly recomend it. The service is great. The people are friendly. The food is the best anywhere. The lanes are kept in great conditiond. The prices are reasonable. But what I like the best is that the computerized scoring is the newest model & adds the total wood as well as the individual games. I’ve never seen this anywhere else. I will bowl here from now on, much more often then anywhere else. I believe I’ve finally found the ultimate bowling experience here at king pin lanes. congradulations & keep up the fantastic work!

Went there for a tournament and the staff there did a great job keeping the bathrooms clean and garbage empty in a totally packed house. The place looks great and the food may be some of the best bowling alley food I’ve had. Food prices were not huge like in some other places. Has a nice sports bar and pool tables also.

With everything rebuilt and remodel, I’m starting to like it as much as Playdrome. the only thing that they need to update soon are the computers and scoreboards. A lot of errors occurred with the machines last week when we were there.

King Pins is great. Its totally 100% better than before. The new ownership/ management did a teriffic job. I also applaud them for offering loyle lane employees a job til its rebuilt, kudos Maryanne!! Much nicer, cleaner, better maintained and machinery works better. Nicely remodeled all over. They also plan to update the computer scoring and seats soon. Food was great. Bathroom was spotless. They also have a 2 lane mini-bowling game in arcade room. its almost like duckpins with a duckpin ball. Every bowling alley should look this good. Everyone Check it out!!!!

I had my sons birthday party here and it was awesome. We’re attending another there this weekend. The new ownership is very accomodating and they have made great improvements to the place. It is no longer the dump it used to be. Give the new ownership an chance a go bowling. It was a lot of fun for the family and the party.

How many chances can this place get. Seems again even with new pinsetter equipment, this center fails to achieve customer satisfaction. Every-time i go ball return. I mean come on. Brunswick GSX is sopposed to run 3000 FPS (Frames Per Stop). They couldn’t do anything with the A-2 (Factory Built). If u want a great time without interuptions, go to Brunswick-Zone Turnersville.

Hopefully the improvements continue. The new ownership is doing alot to change the appearance and perception of the place. I have bowled at King Pin since they opened and believe me it went down hill steadily over the years. I was ready to bowl at a different alley but things seem hopeful. They are planning a lot changes. Also the shot has majorly improved and they have painted & landscaped the outside. I will continue bowling at King Pin and I am looking forward to see what they have in store for the coming year. They have quite a way to go.

Comment Date: 3/4/2008 Name: Mary
This place has vastly improved. I went in recently with a bunch of my bowling buddies because I heard it was under new ownership. Much to my suprise the shot was gorgeous…obviously they now know what they are doing with the oil machines and there are upgrades galore.
I will definitely be back!!!! And all of my friends were impressed with the improvements.

Comment Date: 8/23/2007 Name: press bowler
bowled the press tourn. this place is a dump, lanes have big holes in them that are fixed but comon replace them. Also they must not know what an oil machine is there either. Womens Tri- County High Five the lanes were flooded, but the mens press 200 club were so dry you probably would find more oil in the parking lot. GO FIGURE.

this place is a DUMP!!!!!!!!!!!i hate it with a passion!!!!! the outside looks all grown up as if it were closed. i walked in to check out the place and wanted a cup of coffee. it was about 9 am saturday, and i knew this place always use to be open 24 hours. but the idiotic lady shouted at me across the building disrespectfully WERE NOT open yet!!! i said your not open 24 hrs, (NOOOO!!!!) obviously i didn’t dare to ask for my coffee. so WHY was the stupid doors unlocked!!! no hours posted on any of the doors ether. oh and their lowest price is 3.75 , middle is 4.50, high is 5.25!!!!!! unheard of down here. you know what people, do your self a big favor, dont even think of coming hear!!! go to di-donato lanes. even if their real expensive to (4$) the people are fine. or even harbor strike zone lane, egg harbor city.

I have been bowling here since they opened. The alley went thru a terrible time of poor maintenance and poor service. But as a regular, I continue to enjoy the place with my entire family, and they recently replaced all of the pinsetter equipment and gutters.

Yea you’re right, even 5/6 yrs ago when I went there, most of the balls on their house racks were all chewed up. It was much cleaner place in 96 but 98 on, the pinsetters started mistaking bowling balls for gumballs, LOL!

Great place to hang out and play pool but horrible for bowling. My average there is about 80 pins less than anywhere else. If you have your own ball and are going to be bowling there expect heavy ball damage also.

I used to bowl there 5 years ago then quit there. I’m glad it has synthetic lanes. But the overall condition of the lane is VERY poor, not taken care well enough (this was 5 yrs ago). Always stick on approach and at foul line. And we’d bowl there in morning then they ALWAYS put kids next to us, the kind who are careless, get in your way and the parents are too lazy to correct them. We ask several times to be moved. They move us, but then put more of those kids next to us! WHAT A JOKE!!! And all the pinsetters are PURE JUNK, enough said!!!

This place is old and the girl at the desk was not friendly. We paid for the 2 hour bowling and were more than 1/2 way thru our 3rd & final game. I asked if we could finish and she said it would depend on how far we were. How about sure, no problem finish your game since we inconvenience you . Only 4 of the 30 lanes were being used, the place was dead. We wasted about 10 minutes of our time waiting for removal of pins from the gutters, balls that were not returned, etc. Also, each time we needed the bathroom we had to wait for a key. They have a 6 stall restroom and locked the main door. This place is run down and needs a major over-haul with decor and employees. MouseTrap Lanes is about 20 minutes from here, clean, newer and really friendly staff. That’s worth the drive!

Larry the owner is great, as well as staff in general. Lanes are ok but need lotsa work- kinda beat up. The computer scoring is very outdated and messes up a lot. at the beginning of play it scored then stopped for several frames then started again. There are no overhead screens either, just lower level monitors which is rare. All that needs fixing. Otherwise this house is fine and prices for basic open play are reasonable.

this bowling aley is alright. (upstairs w/ 7-11 and laundry below) much better than back in 2000 as far as no more blaring, annoying, depressing oldies (i went on a friday) and they now finally have computer scoring. they have a different pay system; u pay by the time not the games. shoe rental 2.50/ must bowl half hour minimum $10. 1 hour $20 . prices are reasonable considering maybe 5-6 games a halfhour. they also have t shirt and other souvenirs!!. but be warned, theirs cameras everywhere!! and u have to borrow a key from counter to use bathroom . as the immediate area neighborhood is kinda junky. owner Larry is pretty good too. in addition to there snack bars hey even have a delicatessen. lots of pretty murals all around. not half bad.
