Hi, I was last at Lihue about 2 years ago. And we went bowling there. I really enjoyed that place. It felt really comfortable, the employees were helpful and really nice. Especially Abe who were working really hard that night. I like this bowling alley. Thanks! -Aloha from Georgia

I would like to thank the guys at JAKS Proshop for the wonderful ball that they drilled me a couple of weeks ago. That boy, Brandon i think his name, was very helpful in my bowling needs. I like that he took his time and seemed to know what he was doing. I bowled my first 200 game with the ball he drilled. Thanks Brandon and JAKS Proshop for the wonderful service.

Schofield now gives you the opportunity to practice on some tougher oil patterns. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays, they have 6 lanes oiled with the more challenging patterns. You can request ahead of time (at least 2 to 3 days) on what pattern you want to practice on.

Schofield Bowling Center is the best bowling center on the island right now. The management headed by Dana Spalding is great, I’ve had no problems with the lanes or the staff since she’s taken over the management of the center.

the best on the island. good people, safe, clean, and fun

this is the best bowling facility on the island. excellent prices, great alleys and equipment, very clean, friendly staff, great pro-shop, and good food! fun for the whole family!

It would nice if you had a map and driving directions to your bowling alley on your web site.

I like the alley. The lanes are good for a military base bowling alley. Keep an eye on your kids though. I bowled there with my daughter who was in the 25 inf division. Within 6 months she was sent to Iraq. Coincidence? Ha Ha. Just kidding. Good place to bowl though.

Comment Date: 11/26/2005 Name: USAF Retired
Very friendly counter people. The lanes are usually in great condition for high scoring.

Comment Date: 5/8/2004 Name: Anonymous
I was very disappointed in the Pro Am Tournament. Don’t get me wrong, it was good for the kids but it was unfair as to how the winners were determined. How can you treat the younger kids and older kids the same by using their scratch totals? And also have them pay the same entry fee. Something for you to think about.

one of the last alleys in town, and sad to hear that they will be closing soon too. great food, but the worker at the desk was quite rude on the phone. turned me off and I ended up bowling at Leeward instead.

The bowling center is a great place to enjoy bowling. Prices for lane fees are average. Food at concession is tasty and affordable. Many people who work there are friendly. For the price of bowling, you can have it all–just bowl and have fun.

Fort Shafter Bowling Center Comments
Comment Date: 12/7/2011 Name: Anonymous
This bowling alley is empty during most weekdays especially after a bowling league. I am guessing everyone has a “Phone” so use it to call the alley so you do not waste your precious time. The alley is an all servicing place for fun. Many bowling alleys on this island have closed so other bowling alleys like Fort Shafter are accommodating Bowling Leagues(Amateur to Pro bowlers) who have lost their place to bowl.
For some information:
Bowling hours for the public
Mon Thur 9:00am-9:00pm
Friday 11:00am-12:00am
Saturday 9:00am-12:00am
Sunday 12:00pm-9:00pm
I suggest anywhere before 6 PM and after 1145AM for certain days of the week because of leagues. It greatly depends on the size of the league.
This bowling alley is one of the cheaper places to “bowl” at. And I know this because I have bowled in ALL of the bowling alleys that are on this island.
The Strike Zone Snack Bar
Mon-Thur 6:30am-8:30pm
Fri 6:30am-11:00pm
Fri & Sat 9:00am-11:00pm
Sun 9:00am-8:30pm
The food servings are alright, the price is a give or take on a person’s budget, however now the snack bar is adding more variety for specials as long as they do not run out. There is a thing known as having a voice. Speak your mind when you are in line.
If this does not appease you or still have problems, you should really leaves comments for the bowling alley(At the bowling alley) so they can help its customers better in having a good time.

I spent as much time as I could there when I was stationed at Ft Shafter, 1971-73. At the time, I believe it was strictly military and their dependents, but then again at that time there were also a lot more bowling centers around in general.

Comment Date: 6/18/2011 Name: Anonymous
Your food service is terrible…..I could hardly understand the servers. The ordering system is bad. I think you should have a numbering system where a number is assigned to each order. When the order is ready, the number is called; thereby eliminating the people waiting at the counters.

Comment Date: 6/18/2011 Name: Anonymous
I recently bowled at Fort Shafter Bowling Center on a Friday night; who is that silly person and girl behind the desk? This is a military installation; not an amusement park. Be more professional…….

Comment Date: 6/1/2011 Name: Jaye
I would like to know if all MWR’s are joined throughout Hawaii. I noticed I can get a tuna sandwich at Hickam Bowling alley for $2.50. The same sandwich costs over #4.00 at Forst Shafter. If they all are joined why isn’t there same pricing for food sales? at any rate 150% over the Hickam price seems a bit high.

Comment Date: 5/22/2011 Name: ANONYMOUS
with the recently changed oiling machine, the condition of the lanes has improved greatly. the synthetic lanes are terrific. the management should be proud of their improvements. now if only the ac worked better; maybe more fans towards the bowler’s area and better lighting. 5/19/2011

Comment Date: 1/13/2011 Name: retiree & dependent living at Ft. Shafter
I would just like to find a time when we can bowl. It seems that they’re always having leagues for people not living here, every night/day of the week. If there were a posted/hard copy of a schedule, it would help, but there isn’t…I’ve asked. So we can write it down or call before we want to bowl. Otherwise, we travel over to Hickam AFB where they have a schedule we can count on. 🙁

some of your mechanics need training on how to oil these new lanes. why do you need to make it so different every day/night. bowlers want to enjoy their scores, not get frustrated. your workers should be performing preventive maintenance instead of talking to people up front.

What happen to this worker Leenus? He’s so cool, he used to let us bowl for free.

The air conditioning is the worst of all the bowling alleys in the state. The board of health or whoever is in charge of the Army recreations should look into the condition of the air conditioning units. The manager is aware of the condition but because its under the Army’s jurisdiction, his hands are tied. Be cautious of the sweat on the approach.

Comment Date: 10/26/2009 Name: Adrienne
Leenus, quit posting negative comments against Fort Shafter bowling center. Don’t blame the management for getting you fired, blame yourself for cheating and stealing behind their backs. You owe them an apology.

Comment Date: 9/8/2009 Name: Anonymous
This place s*cks!!! Every time i go to practice i always see the mech. in the front talking story. During league we always have to move lanes more than once. Whats wrong with the head mech? Does he know what he is doing? The place was running pretty good about a year ago as well as the lane condition. Now when I practice its awful. The Manager Don should be FIRED! I dont think he knows how to run a bowling center. Dont go to this place unless you want your bowling balls damaged.

Comment Date: 9/8/2009 Name: Anonymous
This place s*cks!!! The lanes are bad as well as the workers and the manager. This place is a joke. The head mech. Wade doesn’t even know what he is doing. The manager Don is the worse one out of all of them. Dont even bother to go to this alley, go to Leeward.

Comment Date: 5/31/2009 Name: retiree
The employees are great. The oil pattern as of late has been terrible. Because of all that oil, balls get stuck in the back. They need to hire a person that is knowledgeable on lane conditioning. Also, being that the air conditioner is weak or not working at all; the approach gets very sticky, many times causing the old timers to stumble.

Comment Date: 5/14/2009 Name: Norm Hank Brewster
This place is not a bad place to bowl, You have good service here. The lane are wood, it may not look all the great but, they take care the lanes here. (unlike at K-Bay) I would recommend this place if you want to bowl within Honolulu city.

I just came back from Cosmic Bowling with my family. Everyone had a great time! The music and lights were fun. The pizza was delicious! The kids had fun bowling and playing the video games at the arcade. The AC is great!! I was actually a bit on the cold side. Everyone was really friendly. I recommend this place for families!

Fort Shafter is the best place to go bowling but also have a fun time. I bowl there every saturday for junior bowlers. There food is great, i especially love their burgers. They just fixed there air condition so it works great now. Although there bathrooms could do better. They have to women bathroom, one with three stalls and the other with only one. They aren’t that clean but it works with me. I love this bowling center. Prices are great also. Excellent for cosmic bowling birthday parties.

Comment Date: 9/6/2006 Name: JJ300
I havent been here since 1999, and boy this place has changed!!!! They kept the 82-70s,new ac,and I came close to bowling my first 200 game!!!

Comment Date: 5/4/2005 Name: Ryan
I thought the service was horrible. The people at the food counter let anybody cut in line, they take a great deal of time to get around to taking your order, they don’t know how to use their register so that adds to the time you’ll be in line, and then they can’t even take cards at that line so bring cash or you will have to go to another line to have them take your card payment.

Comment Date: 9/26/2004 Name: Anonymous
Good place, but needs better air conditioning.

Comment Date: 9/12/2004 Name: MIKE
Besides the air conditioning problems, everything is all right. I love the food at the Snack Shop, and the two guys at the desk are really cool. Thank you Wade and Lee for everything and letting me run a successful birthday party. The lights during Cosmic are awesome. The other bowling centers have junk lights or very few. Thanks for all you help. I really love bowling and can’t wait to see you guys again.

went on 1/27/12 at night and a young local employee was working the front during league bowling. He was talking story constantly with another man, and he was cussing up a storm using the F-word repeatedly, and loudly. My friends and I waited and tried to get his attention and when we did he finally said something about open bowling at midnight, but he quickly went back to his conversation and ignored us. Terrible employee. I may never return to this venue just because of the horrendous service.

Comment Date: 12/20/2011 Name: Noncompetitive bowler
When Leeward Bowl isnt busy, the employees are great & its so easy to get lanes. But once the weekend rolls around with crowds of teenagers, the employees are just so swamped. Its not worth it for us to wait for an hour and fight others for lanes. Advice: call ahead & put your name on their waiting list.

Comment Date: 11/16/2011 Name: Leeward League Bowler
Although I prefer not to trash the house that I bowl in, there are a few things that management needs to address and fix as soon as possible. A)More emphasis need to be placed on fixing the pin setters and ball return. Nothing more frustrating than waiting for a full rack or your ball to come back, especially if you’re in the process of a good game. B)Management must instruct all parents bringing little children to the alley that they are responsible for their children’s behavior. Kids should not be allowed to run around, block the entry way, throw things around, yell or scream. One day, a kid is going to get hurt and everyone will suffer because you know that parent is going to blame the alley and not their poor parenting skills. C) Proper bowling etiquette should be posted at the front desk. All league bowlers know lane etiquette but not all recreational bowlers do. There’s nothing more frustrating when you’re at the approach than having the person next to you zoom past you to throw their ball, or having the person or people sharing the same pit spill drinks or food and not bother to wipe it up. Just because we’re limited to the number of public alleys on the island, don’t hold us bowlers hostage with poor alley conditions and bad management. After all, we have no choice but to pay the prices you impose so at least give us a decent alley to bowl in.

Comment Date: 8/29/2011 Name: Anonymous
leeward bowls front desk male associates have the worst customer service skills beyond imagined. they are constantly using there cellphones while customers are right in front of them with out acknowledgeing customers. seems like all they care to pay attention to is there cellphone. that to me is a display of poor customer service skills and will inform my friends about what i have bein noticeing. maybe if management were more strict and more available to notice there employees this wouldn’t be an issue, then you would get more customers.

Comment Date: 6/22/2011 Name: Common Sense
Leeward Bowl is the WORST when it comes to kids not being supervised by parents. Seems most parents dump their responsibilities just to bowl while not caring what the kids are doing. Almost daily kids throwing balls are blocking the entrance. I’ve seen kids steal food to breaking machines while the parents just bowl. You don’t see this at any other bowling center, only at Leeward. Management is well aware of this but is either scared to do anything about it, or they just don’t care. Don’t have to be a rocket scientist to check the validity of this statement. Just go there, look around, and say D’oh!

Comment Date: 4/10/2011 Name: KIHO

I love Leeward Bowling alley but the young skinny boy they have working at night and running the desk is terrible! Please replace him with a more efficient employee!!! He is so slow going down the wait list when the whole entire alley is available! I’m not just talking about one time now…..this is every single time! Then, because he is such an intelligent guy…he will refuse you two lanes when you have a party of 8, but give a party of two a pair of lanes! Get rid of this turkey!

Comment Date: 3/2/2011 Name: Avid Bowler
I for one am glad Leeward Bowl is NOT into the entertainment business. With the amount of bowling center closures this past decade, the sport of bowling NEEDS Leeward Bowl to concentrate on the sport more than the entertainment (COSMIC, THEME NIGHTS, etc,) aspect. After all, Leeward Bowl is home to 35 of the 83 leagues that bowls on the island of Oahu. If Leeward Bowl was to eliminate its night time leagues, they would be turning away ~ 1000 guaranteed bowlers a week. That would kill the sport of bowling for sure.

Comment Date: 2/21/2011 Name: kalani
to make good money its is in entertainment value of the center not the leagues. League time would be morning, afternoon, not 6-8p when i can get families to come in and buy food, drinks, and rent shoes at retail price.
let me prelude this by saying i’ve open 2 FEC,family entertainment centers in California the last 4 years.

This is in reference to “another bowler”. Everything the person said from 5/1/10 is in correlation to the comments made from that person from 3/22/10. First of all, my children would not be out and about after 9PM the eve before school because they would be in bed. I don’t know of any parent(s) who would bring their children to an evening activity that starts @ 10PM the night before school. Secondly, Kozmic Bowling is Club-like scene which is probably why they only have it on a Sunday (because most parents wouldn’t allow their under-age children out of the house after 10PM on the eve of school). Just thought I’d put in my 2 cents.

to the comment placed on 5-1-10, Who are you to judge about someone’s parenting skills in the first place? Remember that this is a bowling forum, Not the Dr. Phil show. So, you really need to keep your parenting opinions out this and keep the focus on bowling. Go to the Dr. Phil website if you have a problem about that particular person’s parenting skills.

I’ve been bowling at Leeward Bowl for quite sometime now. Dont usually have any problems with the ladies at the front desk. Love the woman during the week, Rose and Melissa are amazing employees. But I have encountered not once, not twice, but over a few times already some bad service with one certain worker. She works the saturday and sunday night shifts. We sign up for lanes, ask how long the wait will be, she is not only rude and looking like she hates her job, but answers if you pay me under the table I will get you a lane now. What type of service is that. I have to pay extra besides for my games, and bowling shoes. She has blown my mind. And if it wasnt for Rose and Melissa during the week, me and many of my friends probably wouldnt bowl every night during the week. We shouldnt have to pay an extra fee to bowl. And the ways she speaks to people is very rude and inconsiderate. If she hates her job, she shouldnt be there. Hope problem gets solved.

First of all, shouldn’t your daughters be in bed at that time? Such terrible parenting. AND on a school night, how dreadful! Shame on you. I bowl in that 6:00 league, and if our league doesn’t finish on time, that’s beyond the desk clerk’s power. From what I know, Kozmic bowling is scheduled to start at 9:30. Sometimes our league doesn’t finish until 9:45. I’m sure you can wait for 15 minutes. Or were you concerned about the your daughter’s bed-time? Which was supposed to be around 9 pm. Again, nice parenting skills, buddy. Before you criticize others, think about what kind of person you are and the example you set as a parent.

Man I went to kosmic bowl there last night to celebrate my daughter b day. They told me via phone call that it started at 9pm. What they should have said was that kosmic bowl started whenever the leauge was through.. We waited over not to mention the front desk girl with the liquid eye liner whips(the only make up she wore) really acted like she didn’t want to be bothered (what ever happened to customer service?). At $25.00 per hour which is about 1 game with 5 or more pol I should think they’d make it a priority to make one feel welcomed. FAMILIES BEWARE this is not a family oreinted place alcohol and obnoxious drunks every where. To my left people staggering and the lane on the right about 6 men rubbing their bowling ball on their genitals before each turn…did I mention I had 3 girls under the age of twelve…sigh. READ THE COMMENTS BELOW employees actually sign up here to defend themselves and argue with customers… How weird and very un professional is that? Does the manager or owner know about this? And if so is it alright to do so? If so no wonder. This was a new thing for us, but we will never take our family there again. I might go whenever the need arise to get drunk and bowl lol.
A VERY UNPROFESSIONAL ESTABLIHMENT!!!

Ok people. No more fighting on this thread with each other. If you ever have complaints then talk to the staff. Simple. I might have no say so, but…The employees are doing their best so just show some aloha ok? You’d be grumpy too if customers are constantly trashing your place and not taking responsibility for it. Leeward bowl is the best. XD Well it would be nice if you don’t always have to ask the receptionist to look your way :P. But it’s not that hard to say “excuse me” so he/she knows your their. Other than that this place is friendly and Aloha spirited. Btw to the person who was talking to kawika about the crappy service and all. You would have talked to the manager if you really were having a hard time. Not that hard to ask, unless you really were drunk that far. I’m just saying. And leeward bowl is not racist. leeward Bowl forever!! XD show some aloha spirit guys.
RATES ARE LOWER THAN EVER! SO AWESOME!! BRING YOURS FRIENDS PEOPLE!! XD

coming to Oahu for Christams, staying in Kailua. I have two boys 9 and 11 who love to bowl and am interested in taking them to bowl a few games. Seems to be a lot of negative reviews about Pali, any suggestions on a nice family place with good atmosphere and food? Also, we do 5 pin up here in Canada, anything like that there or is it all 10 pin? Any help appreciated.

I recently spoke with the secretary of the Palisades League that was at Leeward for some 20 years before they got kicked out. She told me that there’s a lot of favortism at Leeward. Aki would often look the other way for some people and his friends. I was told that her league was kicked out for some the same things that Aki was letting his buddies get away with.

Norm, you seem like a person who wants bowling to survive in the civilian sector of Hawaii. It would be advisable for you to get your facts straight, before posting on a national forum such as this. You can hurt the employees who are trying to elevate the center to a higher plain. Oh in passing, there is no word irreguardless in the English language. Again thanks for all your efforts to bring attention to various center’s good and bad points. I’m sure ownership uses any suggestions to improve their business. We here at Leeward Bowl are trying to provide our customers with a great product, but costs are rising and Aki tries to keep your cost of bowling at a reasonable level.

Kawika is a guy who seems to overstep his position as a desk clerk and assumes an unwarrented managerial posture. Probably going to get jumped by one of us if he keeps talking down to people who are the ones paying for his services. Definitely needs an attitude adjustment. Has to realize that we as customers are providing him with a job by bowling at Leeward Bowl. Maybe he should take a course in interpersonal relations.

My message to you: WHAT sarcasm? You see, this is the kind of cr@p us workers at Leeward Bowl have to put up with day in and day out. It’s amazing what happens when you tell the truth: you get kicked in the teeth, so to speak. Anonynous, 1. You should come down to Leeward and get to know me before you start making negative remarks about someone you’ve NEVER met, and 2. If someone DOES punch me in the face, that is their choice. They will end up in jail, regardless of whether it was provoked or not. Keep THAT in mind.

As a matter of fact, we do host the Hawaii TV Bowling Tournament here at Leeward Bowl at least once a year. We are unable to host Hawaii TV Bowling multiple times a year because our Sunday League Bowlers refuse to give up their Sunday League Bowling. That’s their time to relax, drink, and have a good time. And for that reasoning, we rarely ask the leagues to take off on Sundays.

HAwaii TV Bowling is Held at Leeward bowl Once a Year for the Modified Doubles in the winter session due to the high Volume of weekly Leagues which there are 5 leagues on sundays, and Mr. Brewster I have gotten to know Glenn Personally and the renovations took about a month of closer to finish Im not sure if the 40 plus leagues would like that very much

To Samurai, Most of the real bowlers will practice or compete in houses with good lane irreguardless to conditions of the rest of the house.

To Samurai, I know how busy Leeward can get but, If done right, that center could as well look like a brand new house. Just look at Aiea Bowl and see how they did it.

In my “opinion” (since you like that word so much) Leeward is the last nastalgic competition house on the island. With all the leagues and the foot traffic this house get how do you expect to do much of any renovations in the public area. You should know you seen how busy it was wednesday night. YES, Mr. Brewster I was there too, Did you have to reassure yourself about you “opinions” by coming to practice?

What is one to do? The ownership spends $100K to begin their renovation with the bathrooms and some ignoraqnt moron keeps busting the mirrors, putting his fist through the drywall and kicks in the toilet doors. How can you phase in renovations when the things you renovate get trashed? Oh and aqbout the lane conditions, too damn easy, the bowlers scream if they don’t get their weekly 300 game or 800 series. The staff in general treat everyone well, but if you talk to them like they’re garbage what do you exppect in return? The food’s pretty good and reasonably priced. The floors need to be replaced, many tiles missing with the mastic showing. Maybe if guys wouldn’t be trashing the equipment right and left, which then require replacement, the money could go towards fixing up the center. Give Aki some kudos for trying to keep costs down and phasing in the renovations as revenue permits. The only civilian center geared with an emphasis on competitive bowling rather then focusing on entertainment. I’m done.

To Samurai, You need read the whole article before reacting, NOT just part of it. If you read the whole thing, you would have seen that I said that the lanes at Leeward are nice. And If you had read the whole article in my previous posting, you would have seen that I was NOT talking about Carol Furukawa in any way, shape, or form. Now start reading the whole article before you start assuming things.

To Samurai Bowler, The manager that I was talking about to Leslie is NOT Carol Furukawa. In fact, I know Carol and she’s done a fine job at Leeward. The manager I was talking about in my last posting is from another bowling center (I’ll let you figure out what center I’m was talking about, Hint…Check out my other postings in Hawaii Centers to see which one I was explaining to Leslie)

Leslie, You really need to open your eyes and take a good long look at things. How often do you go bowling?, How often do you ask questions about the establishment? Do you even pay attention to what’s going on in the bowling center. Before you start going off on me, I suggest you start looking at things a bit more carefully.

Comment Date: 5/28/2009 Name: Norm Hank Brewster
One more thing Leslie, eventhough this haven’t happen at Leeward but, can you imagine having to wait close to 15 to 20 minutes for a ball return because nobody was in the back, or finding the front desk personnel more focused on playing video games in the game room than being at the desk doing his/her job. Or how about talking to the manager of the bowling center and finding out that the manager has her head on her shouders the hard way. (up her a**) I’ve talked with a bunch of other bowlers from that center that basically said the same thing about that staff and that manager. At Leeward, I could see that Aki is trying to get up par with things but, I still see that they have a lot work still have to do.

For one thing, you did not ask me ANYTHING about the janitors, and another thing: When you’re drunk off your a** like you were that night (and I know you were, too, because you were being extremely OBNOXIOUS about the whole situation, and you wouldn’t have acted that way had you been SOBER), you tend to say things that you didn’t mean. And boy, did you say some things that really floored me. So if you want better service, show a little respect. How’s THAT for a concept? Before you guys b*tch about the employees there, try putting up with people who are drunk night in and night out. You’d be crabby, too! We’re only human!

Norm, please check the facts about a bowling center before you start griping about how dilapidated it is or how disfunctional the staff and management are. Just trying to keep the evaluation process of our Hawaii bowling centers on an even plane. I enjoy my time at the civilian as well as the military centers on the island. Although the military centers do have base security to deal with vandals and rowdy drunks, I have been told Leeward is about to implement an anti-vandalism policy soon to control the on going damages to the center’s fixtures and equipment.

They need to go ahead and complete what they started back in 2004. The lanes and good, the scoring system is good, but the rest of the center is just CRAP. floors need to be retiled, seating near the snack bar is just falling apart. The management need to get on the ball.

The worst bowling alley…Friday may 1st went there with a couple of friends I fell done well bowling because the ground was slippery two of my friends went up to the front desk and ask the worker that was working that night who’s name was kawika if he could get somebody down to our lanes to wipe the floor because it was some kind of grease he specifically told them that “oh we don’t have a rag to clean it”…the worker kawika came down to our lane to go to walk to back to fix the pins cause the pin was stuck in the gutter…well he walked back I asked him “excuse me do you think somebody could wipe this area that was slippery” then he told me no I can’t do nothing about that and that’s not his job so I asked what about janitors do you guys have a janitor that could help us because it wasn’t safe then he says oh yeah we have janitors I asked oh then can u call him for us he says no I gotta talk to the janitor not him…I said what so you cannot call somebody or the janitor to wipe the floor and I have to call the janitor myself he said yeah I told him so what if someone else falls down and break their back that bowlng alley could be sued and kawika said yeah you guys would be able to sue us for that if I was his manager I would fire him.

Its a great place to go to have fun. They DON’T discriminate, like people have said they’re just old timers. I’m white as all heck, and part Hawaiian, but they treat me just fine. Maybe you had an attitude, MOST people wouldn’t respond to an ill-attitude. Get over it, and speak up…that might help too.

Comment Date: 5/19/2008 Name: anonymous
Leeward Bowling Alley is not a racist place. The people who work there are old timers and are very busy. Yes, they could use a boost in customer service but i dont believe they are racist. I’m caucasian and have been going there for roughly for a year, and i’ve been treated fairly like the locals. I have not once been discriminated and even bowl there during night feeling safe. I don’t understand why people say they are racist, maybe you just had a rough first time experience there. Give them another shot. They’re great, and so is there food!

Comment Date: 12/24/2007 Name: FRIEND
I think the bowling alley is a great place to bowl! The only thing is the price. They dont dicriminate ,you guys just shame . Us local people just go on up and ask.We not shame .You guys and us are equal thats the way God made it.

Leeward Bowl needs to get their act together. What’s up with the discriminations. I’m white and so what. The people who work at the desk are part white. Give us white people a break. We like bowling too and we are good at it. Maybe thats the problem.

Comment Date: 7/14/2007 Name: Pauahi
Concerned about public bowling centers closing, no where for you to bowl? Try the military houses where the facilities are clean, food is great and the prices are totally inexpensive. Most military houses will sponsor civilian guests onto the base. Some centers have programs where you can get a pass for a year to get on the base. It just takes filling out a short application. Try the military centers today, you’ll be glad you did.

I couldnt believe the racism here. My friend got a lane because he was a local. I arrived and joined him. We were both asked to leave. White people arent welcone there. Its like Mississippi in 1920. I was surprised we werent hung from a banyan tree. I tried to make a police report but was told discrimination isnt illegal in hawaii unless it comes with violence. I will never return. Nice Aloha spirit people

Leeward bowl is a clean and sanitary enviroment. But the Front desk does not have any customer service whatsoever. You could wait there in line and they won’t notice you.

Comment Date: 3/12/2007 Name: anonymous
Great upgraded equipment. Prices just went up again, but with the drop of available bowling facilities, what you gonna do? Pay or no play! Oh well, just had to get that off my chest, but I hope there is some kind of end to losing all of our public alleys. 5 left, and only 2 going be left by next year! Leeward is my favorite right now, but the front desk persons, like all other alleys, are not the nicest people around. Definately not into customer service, but just straight forward. I’ll keep going back to Leeward no matter what, but a nice smile once in a while would be awesome! Great food too!

if your white you will be denied getting a lane and if you do somehow get a lane and want to eat, you will be ignored for 15minn then a local guy walks up to get food and the order will be taken right away..nice place if you like discrimination

Excellent place to bowl, really nice, capable staff and a roomy feeling compared to the few other remaining places outside military bases. Good prices, fully equipped alleys, good fun.

Bowling at Pali lanes is fun, it feels like home. It is the last true bowling alley on the Windward side, K=bay difficult to get on base. I hope it stays open forever. Snack bar could use an uplift, but for the price and amount of food you receive, not bad. May there be many years of bowling, fun and drinks and many years of good health to the staff and management of Pali lanes. KEEP PALI ALIVE. HOORAH.

Thanks Uncle Art and friends for keeping Pali lanes open. This is the last public bowling alley on the Windward side and hope it stays open for a long time. Only one negative, the restaurant. Needs to be given an uplift and the food does not taste good. Too bad it couldn’t be like Aiea bowl’s upscale dining experience. But hey, it’s only a bowling alley.

Wonderful bowling experience. Bowled recently and the lanes held up well. Oil patterns seems well maintainted. I’m glad they kept it open and hope it will stay open permanently. This is the last alley standing on the Windward side. Just wish they could add a little more spunk to the atmosphere like Aiea bowl.

I am a avid bowler, I am currently bowling in three bowling leagues. I bowl in a 20 team league at Pali Lanes and two smaller leagues at two other local bowling alleys. We’re into our 16th week at Pali, the other two I’ve been bowling for 2 and 3 seasons! I must say that the lane maintenance at Pali is outstanding in comparison to the other two alleys that I bowl at
where breakdowns occur often enough that 3-5 hours has become the norm for some of the league bowlers to finish their games each week!
I would also like to say that since I last bowled at Pali Lanes, which was before it closed, and now since they re-opened the difference in customer service is like night and day!! Where previously you, (the customer) were treated like a non entity, ignored until you stood in front of desk! Now you’re greeted with a Hi!, Hello or acknowledged in some form by everyone that works at the desk! At least the four that I’ve encountered! All I can say is the new owners can be proud of their Management and Staff and I and many of my fellow bowlers (100+) would definitely like to see Pali Lanes remain for future generations of families and bowlers!

I think there are new owners at pali lanes, because it seems like there have been some staffing changes and it just feels…better somehow. People smile at you when you walk in now, and even tho yeah it’s an old building, our family was treated kindly and with respect when we went last week. Something good is finally going on at Pali Lanes.

i can expect the place to be alittle dirty because of it being so old but the girls at the front desk are really b*tchy and not helpful at all. we asked for a simple request to change our lane so we could play next to our friends and one of the girls said “no once we assign you a lane you cant move” in a b*cthy way. no suggestions no solutions no apologizing and saying im sorry but we cant. instead she just gave us a really b*tchy attitude.

Called to get information today 1/05/09 at 3:35pm , lady who answered phone was not helpful, don’t know if she couldn’t hear me, because of the background noise, don’t know if i will go there at this point.

the fat young lady at the desk was very rude. wanted to get change so i could get a snack for my kids but the fat lady told me wait wait for what i saw her s*ckin face with another chick but geezzz customers should come first before her girlfriend they even shut down the alley at 1030 when it says they stay open till 1130 they should hire a better worker no sense to tell the general manager she wont do anything about it they must have a SPECIAL bond if you know what i mean

Comment Date: 4/16/2008 Name: Maile
They dont even deserve 1 star!! I just called for information and the General Manager JEAN was very rude, inconsiderate, and had absolutely no customer service skills….. No wonder they are closing down she cant handle a phone call properly…. anyone who wants to feel like {deleted} call pali lanes and ask for JEAN !!!!

Just called to ask about Cosmic Bowling wanted to have my sons birthday party their. Gentlemen that answered the phone seemed to have no idea what it was or what time Cosmic Bowling starts? Hmmm, maybe they should let their employees know their services they offer!

Yeah that lady who answers the phone has a real hair up her a**.

The person who answers your phones (female). Should learn some phone etiquettes.

Mahalo Kona Bowl for putting on another POLYNESIAN UNDERGROUND PARTY. Your staff worked very hard and you guys do an awesome job. The best entertainment venue on the West Side.

If you are a visitor to the islands or are military personel, this is your bowling center. I got this recommendation from Hilo Lanes. They sent me and “Haolis” over here because we werent welcome there. It will be nice to bowl without all the 808 gang tattoos everywhere.

Totally new management is obvious! Concerts taking place every month, UFC Events every month, bowling machines have even improved. I love the Kona Bowl, keep doing what you are doing now!

A great place for adults or families. Very clean, well kept facilities. Prices are very
reasonable and food was great. To say the bartender pours with a heavy hand is a huge understatement. Aloha!

clean, well-taken care of place! one of the only places with more than 3 stalls for restrooms (talk about relief) which means no waiting 🙂
the lounge(bar) has the best selection of karaoke & great quality. nice, dark ambience, comfy chairs. this one worker was hot, so was a co-workr. . . paullen and chaysy. great place for everyone, even families- There is also a diner next to the bar with all kinds of great food!

Comment Date: 1/9/2006 Name: Tipsy Mcswagger
It’s the only place on the west side to bowl. It has a kareoke bar, adult game room (fun slot machines last I saw) video game room for the kids(not totaly well taken care of as some game have buttons that don’t work all gamers hate wasting their quarters on a game that is not working correctly) they do have leagues which are good except when you want to bowl and there are no lanes left for other customers. The staff is ok although not totaly customer service oriented if you have a problem with the lane it will(eventually 15-30 min) be taken care of.

This bowling alley is a joke!! Building should be condemned, and the operators should take a hospitality class at the very minimum. If your a caucasian, or if you want to be racist a “haole” you will get treated poorly. Stay away from this poor excuse for a bowling alley.

Comment Date: 9/2/2010 Name: Someone
If you guys have the time to complain you should just do something about it. Stop complaining jeez!

Kids aren’t allow to bowl. Are you serious?

Comment Date: 8/5/2009 Name: Clyde Miyasaki
This bowling alley has been around awhile, some people may know the owners rather well in fact they are rather old. That’s why the alley is the way it is, everything’s just old.

Comment Date: 3/30/2009 Name: Ian.BAnzzai
You guys should open on ALL the weekday and not juss thursdays and fridays. Because there are some people who like to bowl on he week days and not juss THURSDAYS AND FRIDAYS!!!!!!! So you mite want to think about that, HUH!!!! K so if you do thankz…….

Comment Date: 1/30/2009 Name: Shatiff
This bowling alley is the best bowling alley in the world. The smoke is the best flavor and the shoes are broken in enough to give you just the right amount of comfort. The un-oiled lanes makes it so your ball goes slowly and hits its target every time. And the balls! they are practly broken in half and endorse the rule that “sharing is caring.” I reccommend this bowling alley to any and all animals who like smoky flavors, and an unsanitary, unfriendly enviroment. Take your whole family!

Comment Date: 12/8/2007 Name: Anonymous
THERE PHONES ARE ALWAYS BUSY! ahhhhhhhh

Comment Date: 5/31/2007 Name: anoymous
I LOVE this Bowling ally!!!! best place EVER!!!!

Comment Date: 8/27/2005 Name: anoymous
This Bowling alley is just terrible. They never change the air filters, so you’re choking on smoke. You can’t really take your family there. The ceiling looks like it might fall on you. The lanes are never oiled properly. The pins haven’t been changed in years. I really think they need to reinvest some of the money they make there on the Bowling alley.

Comment Date: 4/4/2005 Name: anoymous
Not bad. All they have to do is fix up the lanes and get new shoes, balls etc. Other than that this place is great.

Comment Date: 6/15/2004 Name: Maui’s Pro
This is not a bowling center, its a joke.
They should break it down.
