Brookfield Lanes Comments

From what I’ve seen in this place the owner is not cheap. he dropped a pretty penny on those fancy flat screen TVs for scoring. also the problem with pin jams and sliding around the deck is they are most likely brand new pins. the bottoms are edged and tend to stay up more then fall over. After time they will become more worn and rounded and fall over more easily. Also the coating the manufacturers put on the pins is what causes all the jams. It’s a pain for a while but eventually they wear off

Not a great experience here. Front desk staff and management not friendly with the exception of one younger girl who wanted to help with a problem but was not allowed to assist us. Expensive. Dirty. Multiple mechanical problems with pins, ball jams, and resets. Bathrooms were so bad we couldn’t stay in them. They had an unbearable smell that made us all feel sick to our stomachs. Would not recommend.

Open-bowled there for the first time on Sunday. The lane surface seemed to be in good condition. One of the staff seemed a little clueless, she might have been a trainee though? Had one malfunction, it was cleared in a reasonable amount of time. Nice to see range-finders on the lane. No bottled water in the machine which meant my wife had to suffer (she won’t drink sweetened drinks) and it was HOT in there. Men’s room stank and wasn’t in great condition, I’ve seen worse in other alleys though. Pins seemed to slide around standing up more than I’m used to at other alleys… not a problem just sort of weird, like the pins are real square on bottom or the pin deck is slippery. Paid 4.25 a game which I think is reasonable these days. Not perfect but we’ll go again and won’t mind competing in a tournament there.

I have to say..reading all of these comments has added a new perspective. So much has changed over the years. There are NO drugs in the building, the staff has changed and is much friendlier, parties still could use some organization, the lanes have improved tremendously ~ thanks to the previous manager M.B. he worked very hard to bring Brookfield Lanes back from it’s nose dive. The owner is still cheap and doesn’t want to spend to much money. You can now find or talk to a manager within one day…if you have a complaint or comment you can always email them they respond very quickly. As for the grump with the long beard, he still has moments of stinkness but the beard is gone and he has warmed up. They have a lot of specials some during the day and some at night. As far as the guy with the party for $17 per person…TRY THE PLACE AGAIN!! It is $17 to bowl and $3 for shoes!! I LOVE the place 🙂

I love this place! my girlfriend had a blast in moonlight bowling. She had 3 strikes all night and they were all 5.00 shots!! lmao!! It was a great time. I made 20 bucks back myself.

Tried the new Moonlight bowling for the first time since they brought it back. Had a great time with friends. Great Job! For all those Carmel bowlers the Pay outs are better!

I wen’t to this place last night and was charge $20 to bowl on a lane for 2 hours per person when the website clearly stated it was $15. I was charged $3.25 for shoes and again the website said $3.00 for shoes. The kid at the front desk said that their website had been taken down and it wasn’t their website yet the phone numbers and everything else matched up.
There were 5 people in my party and I request to reserve 2 lanes. The kid at the desk refused to give us 2 lanes saying I needed 6 people in my party to have 2 lanes. There were about 10 lanes open right infront of us and it was already 10:30pm. So as to not ruin the night we figured whatever and got the one lane. After we realized 1 game took 45 minutes we asked to be refunded and only charged for one game which was $4.25 per person plus the shoe fee of $3.25, which was supposed to be $3.00. Well, he said since we had already bowled for an hour he could only refund us $7 each which made absolutely no sense because we payed nearly $24 a person. When I asked for a manager I was told there was none there. I called again today, again no manager. Our party was ripped off a total $48.75. We played 1 game and rented shoes and ended up out a total of $85 for the 5 of us. It cost us $17 per person for shoes and 1 game.
I will continue to try and get ahold of the owner or a manager to get this resolved.

My family has bowled at Brookfield Lanes For the last two year, for pleasure and on Adult & Children Leagues we have never had a problem with anything. Everyone has always been very nice & helpful. Once in a while the lanes we were bowling on would malfunction and the ball would not be returned or a problem with the pins, but the employees were always nice and never gave us an attitude about fixing it….I had a kids Birthday Party there it was a little unorganized, they could of been a little more helpful but for the amount of kids I had I should of had another adult there so it was partly my fault too…They have been doing up dates to the alleys, new screns and I heard there was more up dates to comes. I hope they do the bathrooms, they need it bad. Overall experience is very good ( and I am a hard person to please).

This alley has come a long way in the last 20 years. The owners are putting money into the place and it is doing well. Whoever thinks the pro shop is better than Lowes with Brad and Tony, isn’t a very good bowler… Keep going to the pro shop in Brookfield if you want each of your bowling balls to feel different from each other with screwed up pitches and spans…

Comment Date: 5/27/2008 Name: tom
looks like the place is under new ownership or management… staff is better.. and the new tv’s are awsome.. beer and bowl on wed. nights rocks.

Comment Date: 4/10/2008 Name: LongTimeBowler
Should have been turned into condos like proposed. The road I live on is smoother than the lanes. At one point in time, it was a nice bowling alley. The problem is that the owner does not care about keeping the bowling alley up. Its all about money. It’s the Bowlerama of the 2000’s. Any local bowler knows what that means. And yes, the people at the desk look AND ACT like they were just picked up from the local shelter. The guy in the proshop is alot nicer and brighter than the ones at Lores lanes, so thats one thing they have going for them.

Comment Date: 3/8/2008 Name: Cara
The people working the front counter ignore you and can’t seem to smile or be the least bit friendly. You get the feeling that they’re doing YOU a favor by letting you spend your money. It’s not cheap either. We spent $65 for 3 games, and that’s not including food.
They have some arcade games in the back that rip you off and don’t work. Some don’t tell you how many coins you need. NONE of the staff could help at all. None of them knew how much they were, and pay back money lost.

Comment Date: 2/22/2008 Name: Bowloramama
I went there a couple of weeks ago. It was fun. People at the counter were nice. I had fun. Place could use rehab, bathroom was gross.

Comment Date: 1/25/2008 Name: Anonymous
I bowl at Brookfield Lanes weekly in a league. The lanes are not maintained and we frequently have problems such as having to reset after every ball, no ball return, machines don’t score correctly and none of the hand air vents work properly. I don’t think they have ever shampooed the carpet which makes my bowling shoes stick to the floor. These last few weeks have been very cold. I think the owner is too cheap to pay for heat. I can’t say one nice thing about the place at this point. I don’t know if I want to bowl here again next fall.

Comment Date: 1/23/2008 Name: XXX
My mother is on a league there. She is the person that keeps track of all the money. They do not rob your money or anything like stated in previous comments. And they do not do drugs, and if they do, doesnt mean they are bad people. you guys are so mean. this place is so fun!

Comment Date: 12/6/2007 Name: Joe D
This place is really cool to hang out with friends. We always go to their glow bowling on saturday nights although i gotta say its hard to get a lane without a reservation. I also bowl in a league there and I average about 180. Last month I had my child’s birthday party there, they can use a party hostess to help out with the kids, luckly my wife’s friends were there and they helped us out. Definitely a nice place to go, brookfield bowling takes a good part in my family’s entertainment life.

Comment Date: 11/23/2007 Name: Anonymous
This lane may not be the best kept, but it is certainly enjoyable to bowl at. It does have night bowling on certain nights, and has for a very long time (despite what previous comments have stated). It’s nice to bowl at a place where you are not surrounded by little kids like Lore’s lanes.

Comment Date: 7/5/2007 Name: XXX
The house should be sold to someone that cares.
Some of the people that work there should be FIRED.
This could be a TOP house, if you get someone that cares to run it!!!

Comment Date: 4/29/2007 Name: pshtt. im not saying -.-
this place like really isnt good. it doesnt even have night bowling!! i mean who wants to go in the day time with all the babies running around and crying. i mean night time is when we can go and dance to the music and its like all dark out. i mean kids my age dont wanna go in the light out. i mean the prices r fine. who cares about prices, but still its not that good and i dont recomend

Comment Date: 8/1/2006 Name: Anonymous
they are rude and dirty people, especially the foul smelling bearded guy at the main desk who doesn’t ever take a bath. everyone is involved with drugs and drug dealing and the employees rob the place for drug money–that’s why they charge you so much!! if you’re thinking of working there, i’d wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t rob your paycheck from you! they should all be in rehab for drugs and personal hygene. and the bar??? total drug spot and you’d never guess who the “queen” is- the big blonde chik behind the bar! not the place to go for a fun night of bowling that’s for sure!

It’s the bowling center you hate to love, much better than Lores I think but yeah the pinsetters and some people who work there could use a re-adjustment.

I like Brookfield Lanes. Much better place to bowl than Lore’s Lanes. More room, better bar, and better staff.

Comment Date: 2/5/2005 Name: Anonymous
I’ve only had bad experiences here… as mentioned previously, the staff are rather rude.

Nutmeg Bowl in Fairfield is not that much further but beautiful lanes, helpful people. Clean. Class bowling.

Comment Date: 8/18/2004 Name: Wild Bill
You do have an option – it is called Lore Lanes and it is 5 miles up the road in New Milford.

Comment Date: 8/2/2004 Name: Anonymous
My family bowls only occasionally, and it’s purely recreational – no league. While the lanes themselves are kept in good condition, the attitude of the various people working the front counter is poor, at best. You get the feeling that they’re doing YOU a favor by letting you spend your money – and it’s a lot – there. Since there’s no competing house anywhere in the area, I guess their attitude is “we don’t care – we don’t have to”. Too bad, because they’re wrong – I DO have an option, and it’s called finding something else to do other than bowl.

When this place first changed owners it got fixed up and the equipment worked well and there was a nice shot. BUT since they lost the PBA the lanes are dry, the approaches as sticky, the fun is gone.

Comment Date: 2/16/2011 Name: Amy LYnn
I like the place, but there isnt enough staff to do everything. I like the arcade but no one is ever there when I go … Hell I asked once if someone would come down cause i lost two quarters and the lady straight out said here is your quarters but i cant come down there im busy so you will have to keep your tickets for next time. im like wow what after spending a few dollars wanted to get my cheap toy …

Comment Date: 6/20/2010 Name: Lee Silby
Choice between Holiday and Norwich Bowling- go to Groten (at least the owner’s son doesn’t set the lane conditions) The lanes are soooo dry. Just because he cannot bowl and needs the lanes this way, doesn’t mean we like them this way. What happened?? A couple of years ago the lanes were awesome.

Comment Date: 3/20/2010 Name: marcus fenix
they must pay the pba alot of money to come there because this place is a real dump, one of the dirtest, smellest bowling centers around this place make our state look bad,pba please go back to bradley or milford.bathroom smells like dried up urine, just a real {deleted}.i was shocked the pba would lower their standards to come to this red neck infested dump………….awful

Comment Date: 11/21/2009 Name: Bowling fan
I remember the bowling alley from years back (the bar used to be the arcade if I rememeber that correctly), and it didn’t look that great to me, but with the work they did on the place I love going there. Granted yes the lanes are drier then what I had hoped, but with proper adjustments I don’t see a reason to stop bowling there. Awesome Job.

Comment Date: 3/27/2009 Name: elite bowler
this house is much cleaner than holiday bowl but much drier. There needs to be more oil. I have heard rumors that it is dry because the manager or someone can’t bowl on oil.

This past weekend Iset foot in this center for the first time in 21 yrs.
1.looked 100% brighter
2.Had a modern feel
3.Staff were very helpful
4.enjoyed myself
5.will return

Kind of funny, went there in early 06 and never bowled on a dryer lane in my life. Then they renovated, put in the new 3 surface lanes, and went last monday and have never bowled on a dryer lane in my life. If they are to be a premier bowling center, they need to put some oil down, even if it’s not a league night. The experience was frustrating and unenjoyable.

Comment Date: 2/8/2009 Name: anonymous
we are sick and tired of going on sunday mornings for OPEN BOWLING only to be told they have a party or a tornament coming and we can’t bowl. I guess it’s time to go somewhere else!!!

This bowling center is GREAT. Not just for the bowling but its great as a family center. Arcades, Pool, Resteraunt, and of course the bowling. I thank the managers for doing such a great job in keeping this place around.

i think that shawn should get fired for wat he did let his familyy bowl for 1 dollar and then other people came in paying for more money and shawn didnt kick them offf so now we have to pay 4 dollars a game

These must be the most stupid owners on the face of the earth. They get rid of their GM and try to run it themselves?? What in the world are they thinking? One just says yes to everything and the other is dating an ex-lane waitress employee of the bowling center. Now that is class.

Comment Date: 6/18/2008 Name: norwich resident
I would have NEVER stepped foot into this center a year ago. I heard that they had and excellent Manager that has come in and clean the place up. What a wonderful improvement. The new owners may have put in new scoring and a billiards room, but as long as the place continued to look like a dump inside and out no one would bother to take the time to step inside the door. Kudos to you for bringing in someone with the foresight to see what would bring people like me in the door: Clean center (inside and out) and great customer service. If you have not checked this center out, now is definately the time.

I bowl at Holiday bowl…I bowled the pro-am yesterday..Let me just say..If the new owners keep the house the way it is now..and keep the lanes consistent…What an awesome house to bowl in..don’t judge..try bowling at Holiday bowl..then about filthy..

Comment Date: 2/25/2008 Name: Wow
All I have to say is WOW, not in a good way. Yes the PBA is going there but common now, the price to watch the show is $85. To bowl the pro-am is $40 more than it was at Bradley last year. The people are criminals that are probably trying to make their money back for renovations.

Comment Date: 2/14/2008 Name: BowlingFanatic2828
Yea they changed the lanes, big D, the approach is slippery as ice, and the rest is a crapbox.

I have been bowling at this center for the last 30 years, took a break when it was the old NTP due to smoke and just bad conditions. I returned this year and my first thought was “WOW”. I am now bowling again and its wonderful. The new owners have done a wonderful job, the staff is excellent, food is good, pro shop is easy to do business with. Just want to say “Thanks”

I’ve been by and seen the rennovations – – and the place looks 100% better. They have sweet new lanes down, clean graphics, new furniture and have really paid attention to all the details. Neither the game room or the billiard room were complete when I was there – but if they put as much love sweat and money into those as they have the bowling alley…they are going to be sweet too!

Comment Date: 9/7/2006 Name: someone who PAYS
I’ve been giving my money to the NTP for 30 years and had to watch the place turn into a dump. Finally somebody has managed to pry it out of the death grip(no pun intended)of the former owner and is in the process of turning it around. It has been years since I’ve said this so here it goes. I CAN’T WAIT TO START BOWLING THIS YEAR. Good luck to the new owners and I expect it won’t be long before we start taking people back from Groton and Willi.

Staff is very nice. Don’t care for the pro shop. I go to Bradley bowl to have my balls drilled. The lanes are the dirtiest I’ve ever bowled on. I do like bowling here except for all the breakdowns of the lanes. This house is definitely
neglected and I have never seen anyone sweep the lanes.

Comment Date: 4/3/2004 Name: Josh Plante
This bowling ally definately needs new lanes ,they still have wood lanes and approaches. We have to buy balls for the house conditions (which are never constant) but when we go to a tournament our balls don’t react.

Hi I work at Wallingford Bowl, and I’m always looking for a good time. I tend to lie alot, mostly about my sexual orientation. You can find me behind the counter sticking my chest and a** out. I tend to waddle when I walk because it was rough the night before. Just don’t ask me to help you out with anything because I’m too immature to handle my job unless it has to do with gay sexual pleasure

If you take your kids to Wallingford Bowl, be sure to always keep them in your sight. I was told that one of the managers is a registered sex offender. From the other reviews that I have read about this place, this doesn’t surprise me.

Don’t bother going to the Wallingford Bowl, the people who work there can’t be bothered dealing with customers. If you ask for something (like a lane or something from the bar), it’s like you’re bothering them. If you’re dissatisfied, too bad – you’ll be told that nobody is forcing you to be there, so you can leave if you want. But that’s what happens when you have a bunch of under-educated family members trying to run a business.

Comment Date: 10/21/2011 Name: Anonymous
Why bother going to the Trail of Terror when you can go to the Wallingford Bowl for the Bowling Alley of Terror year round? Man ya is a complete monster – even without the makeup!

Comment Date: 10/11/2011 Name: Bob Villa
Bouncing lanes can be fixed with a few 10″ lag bolts.

Wallingford Bowl Management = Clueless and in Denial

Comment Date: 9/26/2011 Name: lol leftside
you guys are all right. the only reason that the lefties are winning is because wallingford bowl sets up the shot for all the lefties. it has nothing to do with them being good bowlers am i right?? you wanna cry about the left side so much? bowl lefty then. last week on monday night i believe a righty shot 830? i believe a righty shot 300? is that true in baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer?? only the teams with lefties win? I think not..

Comment Date: 9/26/2011 Name: Yeah ok…
So that oil machine that works so well and is the best in the area broke down last Monday night right before our league. We were delayed 45 minutes! But keep telling yourselves there is nothing wrong with it….lol

Comment Date: 9/21/2011 Name: LEFTY
Can someone please explain to the owners of that house that not everyone in the state is suppose to avg 220+. Its real sad to watch some of the self proclaimed house heroes shoot 1-800 numbers at you. I not sure if bob the builder installed the new lanes but they still bounce. They actually bounce higher now. Great Job Wallingford bowl inflate the THB a little more if you could.

Comment Date: 9/13/2011 Name: la la la la
You idiots from Wallingford can twist peoples words however you like. The facts speak for themselves the left side at this place is easy. Period. End of discussion. Results from the county tournaments, that Monday joke league and NEBAs prove this. The pattern on the right side of the lanes does not hold up. The lanes were replaced and bounce more than they did before. So stay in your own little world and keep telling yourselves that there is nothing wrong with the oil machine, the lanes dont bounce, and that a team of right handed bowlers won the only league in that place and the NEBAs. No one is going to be sad when this place closes.

Comment Date: 9/3/2011 Name: lol
lol about the neba, cut was +10? if i recall correctly and only 3 lefties made the finals, and two were bowling for the championship? seriously every year their league base is growing. just going to be sad when brunswick closes the last two houses in CT

Comment Date: 8/31/2011 Name: Anonymous
So you’re saying Vin is only high average because he’s a Lefty?? And the Lefties that won Neba NOT on the house shot but a very tough pattern bc they are lefty?? Get a clue. Those guys are amazing bowlers and have done incredibly well in any house they bowl at.
When you have someone averaging 242 you have to say to your self. This is something special. This isn’t because of a pattern. Patterns break down. And to be consistently striking like that is a compliment to how well the pattern holds up and how great the bowler adjusts to it.
The machine is old yes! But it works perfectly fine and puts down one of the best shots around here. As a bowler I’ll say it’s better then the 3 nearest houses.

Comment Date: 8/24/2011 Name: Anonymous
Moron – the last NEBA a lefty won – in fact it was two lefties bowling in the finals. The one before that a righty won, then two lefties. The winning team on the Monday night league had the high average bowler – a lefty! What are you smoking Manya??? Oh yeah – that machine works fine …. lol.

Comment Date: 8/23/2011 Name: Anonymous
wowee zowie. your way too much of a hater to be just a bowler….the monday nite winning team from last year were righties. The last 2 neba winners threre were righties. The lane machine works fine. Colonys was much older till they just got a new one. at least in wallyworld they know how to use it. and the fact that they put in new lanes after just 3 years is awesome and shows a lot, making that into a NEGATIVE IS JUST IDIOTIC.So go play in traffic, hater.

Comment Date: 8/19/2011 Name: for for interesting
Many of us are upset with the fact that they LIED AND LIED AND LIED again that the lanes didn’t bounce. They said it was our fault and that we were throwing the ball incorrectly. Then low and behold the lanes were replaced. WAY TO GO WALLINGFORD!! Further embarass yourselves.

Comment Date: 8/19/2011 Name: A dump among dumps
That joke of a league on Monday nights is a lefty HEAVEN! Those idiots at Wallingford just shim them on the left because that lane machine is so antiquated.

Comment Date: 8/18/2011 Name: Anonymous
Glad to hear you had a good time!! I’ve been bowling or even just watching my dad bowl at T-Bowl since I was born. It really is night and day, glad the wood lanes are gone! They were great but a big hassle and always tracked out my ball lol
Despite the complaints from a few jealous people, they do have one of the biggest leagues in the state as well as a big money league on Monday nights with 1st place up around $8,000 there are no other centers in the area that can give that much back to it’s bowlers.

Comment Date: 8/15/2011 Name: Anonymous
Went here two weeks ago for the first time since the 90’s when it was the old T-Bowl. The difference is night and day! I remember bowling in leagues here on poor lanes. I was also bowling at Colony and Hamden at the same time–which were always better than T-Bowl. That said, I’ve got to be honest: a 100% turnaround from what it used to be. Too bad it wasn’t like this when it was T-Bowl, but I’ll be back again.

Comment Date: 8/8/2011 Name: for interesting…
so first you’re upset that their lanes were bouncing, and now you’re upset that they went through the entire process of replacing them? holy good god are you a worthless piece of life. stop s*cking up my good air…. you crotchety waste of space.

Comment Date: 7/28/2011 Name: Interesting….
So apparently the lanes didn’t bounce (yeah… right) but they are replacing them this summer. Hopefully they don’t screw it up again…but they probably will.

Comment Date: 3/22/2011 Name: Anonymous
Let’s face it – this place cuts corners left and right. Well maybe not on the left that’s why the lefties strike not stop there. Even if they borrowed Colony’s new machine the clowns at Wallingford would manage to screw it up somehow and create a super tunnel on the left.

Comment Date: 3/2/2011 Name: Too bad the roof didn’t cave in from the snow…
Another lefty fest at the counties this year – way to go Wallingford! Oil machine was broken on the first week screwing up the lanes on the right side. Typical of this dump.

Comment Date: 1/4/2011 Name: Anonymous
Bouncing lanes, NO oil on the right, and a wall on the left side (just look at the scores from that joke of a league on Monday nights). The worst lane conditions in the state!

Comment Date: 11/27/2010 Name: Anonymous
Yes the county tournament is there again-lets see what happens. And Manya has gotten huge!

Comment Date: 11/5/2010 Name: Really???
The county tournament is at this dump again. Is someone from the New Haven USBC getting kickbacks or paid off? Again lefties will dominate at this dump since they can’t fix the bounce or oil lanes. I predict a lefty will win the singles, they will win doubles, and a team with at least 2-3 lefties will win the team event. At least last year at Colony the lanes s*cked on both sides.

Comment Date: 10/9/2010 Name: Anonymous
Unfortunately Manya is still there. Nastier than ever now that she is trying to quit smoking and has put on several pounds.

Comment Date: 9/14/2010 Name: a former bowler
Is that nasty woman still running the place??

Comment Date: 9/7/2010 Name: tom
you should spend less time on this site and more time fixing the bouncing lanes!!!!

Comment Date: 7/24/2010 Name: Anonymous
I don’t understand how you could own a business and have people working there who could care less. The place is dirty, the woman’s bathroom was not working and smelled. The staff at the desk was not helpful at all. They where sitting in the back the entire time. Once I was there and they were all bowling and we had to wait at the desk to pay for another game. They don’t run any specials at all. The price of bowling is not cheap anymore and one would think that when business is slow you would want to generate people to come in and spend some money. The only person that was helpful was the person working the snack bar which was great when I wanted something to drink. Gary in the pro shop is awesome. Too bad the rest of the staff is not like that. Maybe the owners should care a little more!!!!!

Comment Date: 7/3/2010 Name: Mark
I was just reading the posts on this site and it seems someone is really trying to make this place look bad. I was there last Thursday and the place is great.

PU does this place stink!!! You really need to hire a cleaning company for a complete overhaul. The bathrooms are just GROSS!

Comment Date: 6/22/2010 Name: John
Why all the complaints about the bounce, everyone seems to be scoring well. One of the highest scoring houses I have bowled in.

Comment Date: 6/22/2010 Name: Mary
I heard some poor senior citizen got injured at the center recently. Apparently the ball bounced up from the lane and hit the women in the knee. Such a tragedy.

Comment Date: 6/22/2010 Name: Lefty Paradise
The ones that score well there are the lefties. It is ridiculously easy on the left side – even with the bounce.

Comment Date: 6/15/2010 Name: billy
any summer leagues this year or did they just close down? their website says nothing – just more information coming soon. when in Sept when they are all done? 🙂

bounce, bounce, bounce thats all you people are talking about. HELLO you are league bowlers. Learn how to play the bounce. Who really cares no one in either wallingford house is going to the PBA
go out have fun get drunk get away from your wife and forget about the bounce. You are not pros and

This place is ok. The shot is a lefties dream. Colony is still better and cleaner in my opinion.

Comment Date: 11/9/2009 Name: Anonymous
you people must be crazy- this place was a complete dump before the new owners took over. I think there must be one person with an axe to grind doing all the negative comments. Maybe a fired ex-employee? A competitor? I don’t know who, but it’s plain crazy.

Comment Date: 10/9/2009 Name: Anonymous
Please Manya we all know the only liar here is you! You probably wrote the last two comments to try and make Wallingford look like the victim. Or maybe someone is giving you a taste of your own medicine???

Comment Date: 9/29/2009 Name: thurs night
That’s funny because the industrial league bowls on tuesday night. caught in the lie again eh fools? god i hate stupid people.

Comment Date: 9/28/2009 Name: Re: thurs night
That is funny I am league officer in the Industrial League at Colony Lanes and we have never had discussions about moving the league (especially to Wallingford Bowl of all places). We are happy at Colony Lanes and plan on staying there. The only thing I hear about Wallingford Bowl is how bad the lanes bounce. Is this the owners of Wallingford Bowl writing lies again?

Comment Date: 9/28/2009 Name: Anonymous
Busy – ha! So busy they needed to close Monday nights in the summer? So busy they need a $1 special on rainy Sunday’s? So busy with leagues they have an all you can bowl special for $8 during prime league time? Keep smoking that crack….

Comment Date: 9/24/2009 Name: Anonymous
Really? Why? They are busy with leagues, and better than Colony. You can’t get into thier parking lot most nights.

they will be closed most likely….

Comment Date: 9/18/2009 Name: thurs night

Comment Date: 9/14/2009 Name: website
still no website? What exactly is going on at Wallingford? are they in some kind of financial trouble?

Comment Date: 9/6/2009 Name: Matt
I agree – it’s the owners who need to pull their heads out of their butts. The center has been open for 2 years now – if they are still in the rebuilding phase then there are major problems at Wallingford Bowl. Hopefully the other owners will smarten up before it’s too late and realize Manya is dragging the place down with her antics.

Comment Date: 9/2/2009 Name: Anonymous
According to them they are done with rebuilding…by bragging on an internet message board how great they are doing and stealing everyone elses leagues and running with a full house every night of the week.I don’t think it everyone else who needs to be pulling their heads of anywhere, I think its the owners.
The place is not going to last, just like all the other “Mom and Pop’s” BTW how much actual time is there in an eternity?

Comment Date: 8/29/2009 Name: NONE
this center is great the staff is friendly and always willing to help, maybe if you jerks go your head out of your a**es you would notice
every business just starting up takes time to rebuild so just shut up!!!

Comment Date: 8/18/2009 Name: Anonymous
You dont need to see their winter league schedule…according to them( what they say on this site) the place is bulging at the seems with league bowlers. This falls under the same catagory as they are doing so great they can afford to just close up on Mondays throughout the summer.
Smart folks they is….huck huck

Comment Date: 8/17/2009 Name: website
They probably didn’t pay there website developer…over a month and it is still under construction? It doesn’t take that long!! Now you can’t even see their winter league schedule – shame.

Comment Date: 7/20/2009 Name: website
So instead of spending the money to fix the lane bounce, they are wasting it on a new website? Who was it again that said the management of this place was smart? Unbelievable

Comment Date: 7/18/2009 Name: mike
I love coming on this page! So much trash talking and back and forth. The owners are hilarious with their comments and bogus reviews. What’s the deal with 88000 votes anyway? Someone must really not like this place to spend that kinda time grinding out votes.

Comment Date: 7/17/2009 Name: nate
My team is moving to Amity next year and a few others are joining us. We can’t wait! Want to know the reason why we’re moving? Manya – enough said!!!! The woman is just down right nasty and shouldn’t be running the place.

Comment Date: 7/16/2009 Name: website
their website is down because they are rebuilding it, if they couldn’t afford it you’d get a page load error, not a notice that says the website is under construction you big fat tool, go troll else where

Comment Date: 7/16/2009 Name: Anonymous
hey skidmarks…other centers are dying in the summer, they are loaded because of their specials- looks like smart management to me….and for your info, they are closed on Mondays for the summer, that’s why there were no cars. The parking lot is packed the rest of the week, go look!

Comment Date: 7/16/2009 Name: Anonymous
My league fills this place on Friday nights- It’s an awesome house, good desk, clean, Can’t wait for the season. They have karaoke after league on Friday nights. There is nothing negative to say, makes me think someone has a grudge.

Comment Date: 7/16/2009 Name: Anonymous
Gotta love coming to this section of the message board. Its just over flowing with the lack of intelligence of Wallingford bowl clientel.
My 2 cents…Its just another mom and pop thats gonna fall victim to economy and lack of management knowledge.
skid marks” oh you must be their head mechanic. And I say this because you spelled it correct,if you didn’t I’d swear you were the top pin chaser.

Comment Date: 7/14/2009 Name: George
Superbowl Lanes have too much oil ? All you have to do is roll the ball down the lanes and you get a strike. The place is outdated ? What are you smoking ? Guess everyone at Superbowl is averaging “300”. You have a serious problem and should seek help immediately. You must be an open play bowler with very little or no knowledge of the game. Get help !

Comment Date: 7/12/2009 Name: pretty lady
hmm. i think the manager to that have the skills of being an effective and efficient manager because he can’t even find solutions to solve the problems that the center is facing now a days.

Comment Date: 7/12/2009 Name: hi
what’s the problem about the wallingford bowling center?

Comment Date: 7/10/2009 Name: Anonymous
Why is their website down ?
Can’t afford it? Must be all that bouncy business rolling in on Sunday’s.

Comment Date: 7/8/2009 Name: Anonymous
Well it sounds like an owner of an independant house drowning in debt over an investment that went wrong and bashing another business to make theirs look better.
Superbowl may not look the best but aleast they have the brains to know making a center look modern means more than putting a coat of paint and polishing the Brunswick/AMF leftovers. This place still looks the same as it did when I bowled the Jr. leagues over 30 years ago. Monday night after driving by both centers about 7:00pm there were several cars @ Superbowl and Wallingford bowl was completely empty. Perhaps not open ? Must be those great bouncy lanes they got there.
Desk staff not being intelligent sounds like you have a personal ax to grind. Was your butt not kissed properly when you went there.
You must have a pretty good job to be paying WB’s prices OR are you still cleaning their toilets and bragging about Amity?
Too much oil ?
Your joking right ?

Comment Date: 7/8/2009 Name: Anonymous
That is Wallingford Bowl and Manya’s MO – blame everyone else and make up lies about other centers. They have a long history of slamming other centers to try and get business. Too bad they cant focus on running their own business and taking care of their own issues.

Comment Date: 7/7/2009 Name: Anonymous
The fact is this is a very good center, and the Sunday special is awesome….anyone that disagrees with that is a total moron.

Comment Date: 7/6/2009 Name: Anonymous
Wallingford Bowl is an awesome center to bowl in. The staff is nice and everyone is professional. They take care of their leagues pretty well. I don’t know much about colony lanes but I do know about Super Bowl lanes and they are CRAP!!! Super Bowl lanes is so out dated and you get this feeling that you are bowling in a junkyard. They do have a great pro shop, But the people working the desk are not too intelligent. They have so much oil on their lanes, I think they own their own gas station. I like lanes with much less oil because you are actually bowling rather than throwing the bowl anywhere down the lanes and getting a strike. Thats what they call competitive bowling. You will definitely enjoy Wallingford Bowl.

Comment Date: 7/6/2009 Name: Anonymous
Hum too much oil? That is a first. I guess if you dont know how to ADJUST then it could be a problem. For the most part I agree though – Super Bowl is ok not the most modern place, but the lanes do not bounce cant say that about Wallingford. The problem with Wallingford, besides the lane bounce, is that they try to overcompensate for the lane bounce by creating a wall to the pocket. That is not what I call competitive bowling. Why not just fix the problem (the lane bounce) and put out a legitimate shot? Seems like they cater to the once a year bowler instead of those somewhat competitive league bowlers. Shame.

Comment Date: 7/6/2009 Name: Anonymous

So you are implying that the lanes at Superbowl haven’t been oiled in the last almost year they’ve been running this $.99 promotion?
As for the other comment(s) just how much money does a pinsetter generate when its off and nobody is using it ?
Better $.99 than nothing, and the place is always busy when I see it.

Comment Date: 5/16/2009 Name: voter
Who really cares about the votes anyway. All 88 thousand votes proves is that someone is very bored and realized that all you have to do is hit the back button on your web browser to vote again. Allthough someone must hate this place a lot to spend the time hammering out all those votes. Its just silly.

Comment Date: 5/14/2009 Name: anonymous
Please remember the stars and votes are since the inception of this website. It does not start over with new ownership. The rating here goes back to the T-Bowl era. It does not just represent the rating for Wallingford Bowl as it is now.

Comment Date: 5/4/2009 Name: Anonymous
Can they add a new category for lane bounce? I would gladly vote a 5 for it.

Comment Date: 5/4/2009 Name: Scott
Chris- The total number of votes is inconsequential. The ratings are what matter, and the ratings for this place are at the bottom of the barrel. To imply that the center itself or the owners are behind this is laughable. Any fool can see that…..Now, if you want to take a look at the votes for, say Colony, the number is huge AND the rating level is high, THEIR fingers must have hurt!

Comment Date: 4/29/2009 Name: Chris

you do realize the double bounce was fixed before the season started, since my league has moved there the lanes don’t bounce, and my league takes 36 of their 40. if you are double bouncing the ball try not to loft it a third of the way down the lane and actually learn how to release the ball properly. you won’t see a double bounce then.

The JoeyBagofCrap is Chippelo for all of you in the loop that cant figure that out. He, along with his buddies at Amity and Colony can’t figure out why the flip those centers, along with his game and cleaning company are in the pits. I bowl a couple leagues at Wallingford Bowl and I can say a couple of things. The lanes do NOT bounce any more ( i didnt know they ever did)
The SweetHeart and county tournaments have gone on with no complications or complaints.
This place has several successful leagues, none of which have been rumored to move out of the house. This can not be said for Circle, Amity or Colony.
I personally have nothing against any other house, but I am trying to clear up things about Wallingford Bowl. I bowled league at Hamden, and this is where my leagues are now, and are quite happy to have moved here.

Gee, I wonder who/where could have the time to click the ratings score DOWN soooo many times to take it all the way down the 1/2 star with almost 20000 thousand votes. Hard to believe and pitiful for whoever is doing it. I suggest ALL the fans or supporters of any bowling centers do the same thing since one person/place can click and vote as many times as they wish in order to raise or lower ratings.

Comment Date: 2/16/2009 Name: Anonymous
I can’t believe these comments! This place is OK – but the Colony Lanes down the street is much nicer and the employees are a lot friendlier.

To one of the jerks (or the only jerk with different names):
This house is USBC certified. The lanes are scrutinized and checked thoroughly. They run high scoring tournaments all the time. If the lanes ever bounced, they sure don’t now. SO write your trash about something/someplace else, or better yet, go play in traffic.

You are a total fool the USBC would sanction bowling lanes that resembled a parking lot these days. Just because the center has USBC certification does NOT means the lanes do not bounce. Show us one measurement they do regarding lane bounce.

Of COURSE they upgraded machines, you idiot! When it was Bowlerland, the machines NEVER worked. They replaced them all and they work great.

Comment Date: 2/6/2009 Name: 3 / 4 way decent bowler
Also during the past year, the supposed idiots on this board brought up the fact that the lanes bounced. Rather than admit it, Wallingford Bowl said everyone was a liar and nothing was wrong with the lanes. Then they had a change of heart and admitted the lanes bounced and they said they would fix it. Unfortunately nothing was done.
Next, someone also brought up the fact that the ball returns are missing safety guards and decals. There was a link to website showing the recall information and documented injuries. What was Wallingford Bowls response? Claim nothing was wrong, call everyone a liar and do nothing.
Then Wallingford Bowl tried to censure what people were saying on this very board. They claimed they were going to prosecute people for writing bad reviews and opinions about the center.
So given that, I guess Wallingford Bowl wins they win hands down at making themselves look bad!

Comment Date: 2/5/2009 Name: Anonymous
I’ll tell you why the bashing of Wallingford lanes is going on in this site. When Tbowl, aka Bowlerland, aka Bowlerdump closed down, most of their leagues moved to a certain bowling alley down the road. So did much of the open bowling where they make a lot of money. They thought they had it made, and as a result they didn’t provide good service, and still don’t. Now when the new owners took over Wallingford lanes, and renovated, and proved they could run a really good bowling alley, many of these leagues havemoved back and so have the weekend bowlers. This has left that other bowling alley very angry and bitter. They have been writing trash on here under all kinds of aliases and have stooped to low levels because they are desperate. The truth is Wallingford lanes is much nicer, much more league friendly, and much better run. The trash written on here is just that, TRASH, and anyone that bowls there is aware of it. I bet that there will be 5 responses to this post under different names with even more trash, but the above is the absolute truth.

i do not understand all the bashing of Wallingford Bowl. Every time i bowled there the lanes are consistent, not many other centers can say that. The pinspotters work fine which is a huge upgrade of the 82-30’s of the T-Bowl era. There are many places worse than Wallingford Bowl, why doesn’t everybody apppreciate the work they have done there

Comment Date: 1/25/2009 Name: 1/2 way decent bowler
last year the idiots wrote that this place was closing….then the same idiots wrote that Wallingford was responsible for spreading false rumors that Hamden was closing, and kept trying to make Wallingford look bad. Then they wrote that it was dead in the summer, and now they are writing more garbage. To those idiots: Guess what??? They win, you lose. It is a good house and everyone there knows it.

I don’t know what you guys are talking about, obviously it’s other centers in the area that feel threatened talking this bull. My league wants to move there next year!

Comment Date: 1/24/2009 Name: Anonymous
They are really mobbed with leagues and open bowlers? That explains why they have the $8 all you can bowl special then at night time – because business is booming so much that they need to discount it!!

Comment Date: 1/23/2009 Name: Anonymous
Guess we WILL have to wait till next season…..meanwhile, the place is mobbed with leagues every night of the week, they have tons of open play and lots of tourneys booked, including the county. THey wouldn’t exactly book there if the lanes bounced like you say or were in any way imperfect. You are pitiful and they are laughing all the way to the bank in even these tough times. And though some of thier bowlers bowl in other houses as well, they all say they prefer wallingford lanes. I have been bowling there since they first opened under the existing management and will tell you the place is the best around by a mile. If anyone says negative things , I guarantee they will not sign thier real name because they are either liars or do not bowl there at all.

Comment Date: 1/23/2009 Name: Anonymous
I don’t think this place has taken away anything from the other centers. Most of the people I have talked to who moved to this center are talking about going back to their old centers. They all feel this place is a dump, lanes bounce and the staff is not that friendly. Guess, we willhave to wait until next season to see if that really happens.

Now I am not going to stoop to your level of name calling. Apparently you have some axe to grind or you have an issue when people call you out for being wrong. So explain this oh special one: the machines were installed at Lores Lanes when Mendes was an independently owned company (hence the Mendes name on the machines). So back then (someone must have had a premonition) it was built under the QubicaAMF name, not Mendes? FYI – not the AMF name as you claim since that is not the name of the company. Why didnt they just sell an AMF pinspotter then? Why didnt they put a Qubica or AMF decal on it, or more appropriately an QubicaAMF decal (since the pending merger would have been known)? Now if you asked someone back then when the machines were installed, who made them what would they say? Mendes, AMF, Qubica or QubicaAMF? Would they be wrong if they said Mendes? Yes, again please educate yourself – US Bowling makes synthetic lanes (NOT pinsetting equipment), as do Murrey and Kegel. You can call Norwich Bowling and Entertainment [(860) 889-3361] and US Bowling [(909) 548-0644] to confirm please just dont argue or get otherwise nasty with them when you do. It may be appropriate for the customers of Wallingford Bowl but it is not fair to either of them. And why start making rude comments by calling people a retard? Completely uncalled for and showing how big of a jerk YOU really are. I really feel embarrassed for you and Wallingford Bowl. PS whats wrong with my name(s)? Its no more ridiculous or stupid than yours (joebagadounts, Um, Anonymous, I love people who pay attention, **insert your real name here**, etc.).

Comment Date: 12/24/2008 Name: Anonymous
Why certainly, please go on embarassing your self with stupid names, but any way even though a pinsetter says Mendes it was still built under an AMF name because they are the parent company of Mendes. So Try again.
As for US Bowling making ANY equipment thats news to me and the rest of the bowling industry.
So please go on Joeyretardedname, you arew quite the entertainment.

Comment Date: 12/23/2008 Name: Um…
The Mendes company produced a magnetic pinsetter known as the MM-2001. It featured a flat magnetic pin table and magnets on the head of each pin. It had a pit similar to the AMF and an elevator similar to the Brunswick GSX. Pin loading involves the combination of a carousel and magazine. The company claimed this technology reduces stops in play due to table jams on out-of-range pins. Mendes was bought out by Qubica, which sold the machine as the MAG3 until its partnership with AMF.
Hence AMF and Brunswick being the primary manufacturers of pinsetters…would you like ME to go on ?

Comment Date: 12/22/2008 Name: JoeyBoxOfKrispieKremes
Lores Lanes in New Milford CT has pinsetters manufactured by Mendes. Norwich TenPin in Norwich CT has lanes made by US Bowling. Would you like me to go on?

there lanes were fixed months ago before the summer was over for u jerks who dont know what your talking about. the lanes threre are great and so is the shot. no complanints about oiling at this place. also name one bowling alley that has lanes or pinspotters made by anyone but brunswick or amf. you people should go play in traffic.

Comment Date: 12/13/2008 Name: Anonymous
If you think the ball does not bounce, then you need to have your eyes examined. Unless it was fixed, which I doubt. Plus there are a few other smaller companies that make pinsetters and ball returns. Just not widely used.

Comment Date: 12/11/2008 Name: JoeyBucketOChicken
There are more than two companies that make lanes and pinsetters. Just off the top of my head, here are few of them to help enlighten you: VIA (a former sponsor of the PBA tour) and Switch Bowling. The lanes do bounce at Wallingford – regardless if you loft it or not. One of the owners even admitted it on this very web site! Are you sure YOU know what you are talking about?

Whoever posted this is clearly slow in the head. Few reasons; the ball does not bounce unless you loft it half way down the lane, then it will bounce no matter what bowling center you are bowling at. Yes, they are new lanes that were installed before they opened. It is not an AMF house, it is AMF equipment. Even if it’s privately owned there are only two companies who make pinsetters and lanes: AMF or Brunswick. It is a privately owned house. People seriously need to know what they are talking about before they speak badly or post things about places.

I have bowled all over Fairfield and New Haven counties for the past two decades, and I can honestly state that Wallingford Bowl is the best bowling center you can go to. The shot is consistent and competitive. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The ball returns and pin setters run great. Even the bathrooms are brand new and kept spotless. It is an honor to patronize an establishment, that is run by people who love this great sport as much as I do. Wallingford Bowl is the premier bowling center Connecticut.

You obviously don’t bowl there – the problem is not a little bounce – but a big bounce. There is NO adjusting for it and it has a definite impact on scores.

Comment Date: 9/15/2008 Name: kevin ryan
everyone wants to talk {deleted} about this bowling alley when yu all probably s*ck, stop blamin the lanes and learn how to adjust, if the shot is either too easy for all you pros bowl in the neebas and then try to be pro, if yur bowl has a little bounce to it then smoothen out your shot and stop hummin it down the lane. A bowling alley is only as good as its bowlers and for this bowling alley it looks like because of the stupidity in the bowlers it seems to reflect on the lack of respect…

Comment Date: 9/14/2008 Name: Anonymous
I agree with you 100%. The Pro Shop should be open when there are leagues bowling. This should be stated in the contract between the shop and the center.

Comment Date: 9/11/2008 Name: Anonymous
My complaint about the pro shop would not be the drilling price…..buddies is 50 and almost everyone else is in that area. But in the price of his equiptment that does NOT include drilling. and to find out he is not open every night there is league in the house. That is poor. How does wallingford bowl expect leagues to want to be there, and the proshop owner expect to make any profit if he isnt open when the most profitable customers, the league bowlers, are bowling?!?

Comment Date: 8/29/2008 Name: Anonymous
If you think that $45 is too much to drill a ball, then buy your own equipment and drill it yourself. The drilling equipment, training, stock, rent and other misc. overhead $45 is cheap. Next time you buy a ball online, have them drill it for you and stay out of reputable shops. Just to think, he is suppose to stop waiting on a customer, just to drill your ball. Get real !

Comment Date: 8/25/2008 Name: anonymous
Bowling alley good. However the pro shop charges $45 to drill a ball (a $50 ball in my case) and put any other non paying customer ahead of you. 30 minutes chatting with another non paying customer while we sit waiting to pay $45 for them to drill our ball. As of this post, still no ball while we wait to start our second game we’ve already paid for.

Incoming League Bowler and am looking forward to bowling at Wallingford Bowl this year. When Hamden closed, our league bowlers chose Wlfd house in a landslide! The staff and Owners have been terrific and are willing to work with us I applaud their professionalism and prompt replies to our league needs. This is a stark contrast to the treatment we received from others. Several of our league bowlers have already been to the house to try out the lanes and are excited at the coming year.!! Kudos to you Wallingford!!

lets not talk about not being able to afford things.. why dont you go write some more bad checks…….

Comment Date: 7/23/2008 Name: Anonymous
Quiet yes probably due to summer…although coming to a message board and tooting your own horn about how flooded with business they are but only seeing yellow lines and pavement where cars should be parked is a bit embarassing to say the least…therefore they have no tooting to do.Also no customers = no comments for the message board (Get it ?)
Lastly if it truely is an employee or an owner posting on here I have seemed to notice how selective they are on who and what situations they choose defend themselves against, makes one think the possibility of employees with way to much time on their hands or 12 year olds who like to argue with themselves for attention.Very much like the attention the owners(?) are claiming they are getting from advertisements posted here on this very message board.
Pretty sad way to drum up business, putting yourself down on a message board just to get people to come and see if its really true.
Spent to much money on the building and can’t afford an ad in the paper ?

Comment Date: 7/21/2008 Name: Anonymous
It has been strangely quiet around here. Either they are closed during the summer or have no bowlers left. What – no rumors of one of the owners shooting a 180 game on the new shot? I hear it is SPECTACULAR! (LOL) I havent been there in a few months and am curious – is it still like throwing a bouncy ball down the lanes there? Good to hear that youve got bowlers signed up in the winter. I give it a few months before Manya drives everyone away with her nasty attitude.

it was a joke aimed at the people putting things here to try to hurt this business.. bounce in heads taken care of before leagues come september, as far as guards, i dont have that information but i’ve worked in this building on and off for 4-5 years and not one bad injury has come from the ball returns here.. im not saying don’t do anything till someone gets hurt.. but at hammonasset beach there were 2 incidents of lightning strikes and they didnt put up a lightning rod until recently someone got killed..
as far as business.. its summer.. everywhere business is down and with gas prices the way they are, families are doing less travelling. but come fall we have a full lineup of leagues and every night there will be a crowd here.

First year full houses are not a feather in your cap by any means, if you want people to be impressed (like me) you will need to fill the house on the second year.
I wish you luck, but I must say you are in for a challenge for which you have no idea.
Also unless you have SIGNED contract I wouldn’t be counting my chickens before they are hatched…but then again based on this places honesty, business sense and ethics some so called “employee” or “owner” will come on here and say they have contracts written in blood, although probably fictional.
Also lets not forget “everyone” does not prefer to be in an overly crowded building full of whiners and crybabys. So I am anxious to see if any of the “fictional employees/owners” pipe dreams are factual.
I guess I’m going to be sued for this comment now(more pipe dreams)

Face it..this place is STRUGGLING for revenue just like every other center. It’s the times. If bowling was profitable, why are so many closing, and none opening. The very idea of renovating a worn out facilityand dumping a ton of cash means paying for it, along with general operating expenses which rise on a daily basis. Bad idea from the start and high risk ROI.

Jim – if there are really people lining up to bowl at Wallingford because of the comments posted on here, then why do you want it to stop? Any idea when they are going to fix the lanes? How about guards for ball returns? It is good to know something positive is coming out of the comments on here it is keeping the center on their toes and they are having a boom in business (yeah… right).

WOW..I been away for a month, and all this mudslinging still going on?? Awsome…why pay to bowl, when you can get free entertainment here!
Seems everyone should just chill out, smooth the waters and start fresh.

Comment Date: 6/21/2008 Name: Jim
i dont get it.. why is everyone that NEVER steps foot in the building, so concerned about what happens here???
No one is lying about the heads.. if you read a few posts down you will see One of the owners say, yes, we realize this problem (didnt think it was the end of the world) but are still getting it fixed before all of our leagues start up next season.. where is the lie in that?
Not speaking for anyone else but in my personal opinion, whoever posts silly things about having a horrible time here or getting sick from eating our food? (Which of course you felt was so important to come home and write something obscurely online instead of telling someone in person right away)
as far as am concerned these people have nothing more important to do in their lives then make up things that NEVER happened, in order to either A) bring this business down or B) hoping somehow it will bring more people to Their business.
As for being liars and deceitful persons, we are not… IN FACT, There have been some rumors going around about other companies in the 25 mile area that I have heard from multiple people last year.. have heard the same things from numerous people in the past few months, who have heard the same from other people that they know that have NOTHING to do with bowling at all!
But I, as well as anyone else that I work for/with , for one will not stoop as low as to spread these rumors to anyone.
I’m sure it’s all just speculation and i’m not the type of person to wish bad things on other businesses.
In case you forgot, we’re ALL on the SAME TEAM…
Most of us are in the business of bowling, or bowlers themselves. Bowling is a declining sport. If you think making up lies about other places will bring more people to YOUR place.. you are a fool! As an example, take a look at all the corporate, even independent bowling centers in CT that have closed in the past 5-6 years.
They didn’t close because you “got sick in their snack bar” or because their “lanes bounce” etc.
It’s sophomoric to assume saying petty insults with no hard evidence or even putting a REAL name is going to make even the smallest dent in the business here at Wallingford Bowl.
Honestly, all you are doing is attracting more attention to this place. So for that I say thank you!! Because of your comments, more people are lining up at the door to see if its all true or not! Say all you want…

Comment Date: 6/20/2008 Name: << — You know!
So lets summarize this for everyone for months and months people have been telling Wallingford Bowl that there is something wrong with the lanes and that the heads bounce. Wallingford Bowl adamantly denied this and claimed that everyone on here was a liar for saying that and that it was people trying to bash this place. Now the center claims that the lanes are being fixed to remedy the problem. So what changed? How long did they know about the problem for? Now everyone can judge for themselves who the real liars are: the customers who complained about the bowling balls bouncing in the heads and brought it to Wallingford Bowls attention, or the owners who denied anything was wrong, then finally said, remedy the problem. Are you people from Wallingford Bowl politicians from New York or something? Your track record of lies and deception would seem to indicate so.

I do not think the owners are coming in this site, just some idiot using their names. Just for your information. A ball that bounces will affect your accuracy and the path the ball takes to the pocket. Not only is this common sense but also physics. If its being fixed, great !

Hey John when you say “Mr. Anonymous” are you referring to your employee / partner who posted anonymously about your 276 game? Or to the customer who was skeptical of it? Hum…
Oh by the way, since everyone is so keen on spelling around here, anonymous is spelled ANONYMOUS. You may want to spell check your posts, as your partner pointed out, you may not be taken too seriously around here.

I am not nor do I plan on hiding from anyone who posts on this ridiculous board. Owner of any business open up a business to make a living which entails making some money. So I think it was Eddie who had that money in the pocket comment you must be a brilliant man. If a business makes no money then how does a business stay open? Anyone else making money comments, please answer me this one real simple question, please name one person in this country who invests their hard earned money into a business not to make money? Ok so now that we have gotten past Eddies moronic statements. Next order at hand, if you had a business and people were making false accusations, would you not stand up for it whether it be in person or on a board? Since we have computers now and internet and all that great stuff a board like this is just another tool for communication. So if someone can post negative comments someone can defend owner or patron. Ok next order at hand, if you make any kind of negative statement about a center please post your facts with them or all people should consider you accusations false. Let me say that my last comment is for good or bad comments we need to be fair, though we all know some people on here can not spell that let alone be it. I am nothiding from anyone on this board all I ask is that people keep their personal problems at home and lets tlak about matters at hand. I will be more then happy to answer any of your questions face to face without this board nonsense and those of you comeenting with no names man uo state your name and where you work. If you have something to say why you hiding? Just wondering.

Comment Date: 6/16/2008 Name: Anonymous
Still the saddest part of all of this is that the owners feel the need to explain and defend themselves on the internet. Are they that insecure with themselves that they cant handle complaints and criticism about the center? Are things going that badly that they think some comments made online have that big of an impact on their bottom line? And dont be confused that is all they care about – the bottom line and money in their pocket any way they can get it!

OK lets put the bouncing balls to rest. Gold Crown is coming back to remedy the problem so Mr. Will J. (which I am sure is a ficticious name) you can bring your team back and when you do please stop and say hello to me.
Now let me address the other jerk. I,Mr. annonymous, am from NY, I bowled professionally for 10 years and have won 2 GRAND MASTERS tournaments in the past.
90% of the houses the Grand Masters bowl on are synthetic lanes. I am also the guy that shot 276 the other day after not bowling at all for quite a while. The shot is TOO easy as far as I am concerned and the balls bouncing (which didn’t happen to me at all) have no affect on scoring.
So why don’t you disappear from this site and go haunt someone else’s house.

Just curious – why does it matter to you what league I was in? Unless you are an owner / employee of the center writing lies here….

Comment Date: 6/12/2008 Name: Anonymous
Let see, an old man of 65 shot a 276 game. Just read in Bowlers Journal that Nelson Burton Jr. who is ,I think 66, is averaging 247 in his league (no, not a senior league). Have any of you folks ever gone to the Grand Masters tournament in NY. Those old guys are rolling 280+ on mostly wood lanes and yes most of them are averaging over 230 in their leagues, some of them might even be bowling in your league. There really is no age barrier in bowling, either you have the talent or you don’t. I doubt if anyone on the board has an average over 230, regardless of your age.
So, if you can not beat these “old” men, then shut up !

Comment Date: 6/12/2008 Name: Just curious

If you’re posting something bad about this center you probably have not been in yet.

Comment Date: 6/11/2008 Name: Will J
I am probably going to be crucified for saying this, but who are you people trying to fool? The bowling balls bounce all over the lanes!!
The old guy probably would have shot 300 if the lanes didn’t bounce so bad. Our team is not coming back next year because of the bouncing bowling balls – it is awful. And if you are lucky to get on a pair that doesn’t bounce too bad you still have to fight the “mistery shot” – they have some old oil machine that can’t even put out same shot twice. We tried to stick it out but we’ll go elswhere.

To The Owners – So you claim not to be a supporter, a parent, “fctybowler”? How many other fake reviews have you posted here and for other centers using made up names? I am here to assist people in seeing through the BS you are trying to pull that is why I care. I have not continually knocked Wallingford Bowl. I wish you well actually that is why my screen name is WallingfordBowlFanClub and I sign my posts (that may be a new concept to all of you). None of my posts put down your center, they simply posed questions about issues and concerns bowlers have there. I wish you would conduct yourselves in an honest manor instead of lying. Which one of these concerns have been repeatedly disproven? Please provide details:
1. Do the heads still bounce or have they been fixed? I know dozens of bowlers who also agree that they currently do.
2. Is two ball returns acceptable to you during a tournament? Do you strive to achieve zero stops?
3. Do the employees now where gloves at the snack bar? I think it is a legitimate safety concern. All major restaurants do so, so why should your snack bar be different? Is it cleaner in Wallingford Bowl? Do you watch every employee wash their hands in front of you?
4. Have you installed guards on the ball returns? Again, documentation from AMF and the US government prove this is a SAFETY concern. So how is this a lie or a knock to your center? I am pointing this out as a courtesy to you and your staff that this should be addressed to prevent any future safety issue. You should be thanking me actually.
As for meeting you, what would be the point? I would be bullied, insulted and lied to as I was the last time I tried to talk with you. I would immediately be given an attitude and treated poorly since you already have in your mind that the above items are lies and that I am here to knock your center. Actually why would anyone discuss anything they posted here with you? You threatened to prosecute people because they were posting their opinions and experiences that you did not like. Lets start by you people being, repeat after me, honest. It may be a new word for you but I am sure you can learn.

The Wallingford Bowl is much improved since the renovations. Unfortunately, I felt the lanes are not that much improved and it looks as though they are still the same Lanes from T-Bowl. I would recommend Colony lanes more, but still a decent bowling alley.

Kyle, What are you thinking? How can you tell anything about the place with only 2 weeks of bowling. Your ball does not bounce because you heave it down the lane! You are anything but smooth. Your average was lower at hamden, because those moroons couldnt put the same shot down twice to save their lives.
As for wallingford bowl, The management is nice and it is a good place to bowl.

Hi Everyone:
I am a USBC Youth Bowler, bowling at the three junior leagues averaging 195. I also bowl at Milford, East Haven, and once Hamden. Wallingford Bowl is a very nice bowling alley to bowl at. There is a very comfortable feel at the alley. The workers are very professional over the AMF Workers. I have met Manya, and she is absolutely amazing. The lanes are good, there is a little bounce at the heads, but not bad. This is a very consistent shot week to week. Wallingford Bowl offers many opportunities for everyone… the recreational bowler to even the pro bowler. The Bowl works constantly to try and fix any issue that there may be. The pro shop at Wallingford is nice too. Although I don’t use Gary Grant, I believe he is very knowledgable, runs a good shop, and clean too! In terms of all the nonsense that is said about Wallingford Bowl, I don’t believe it. I bowl more there than probably most of you. Check it out before you rate it negatively. Especially since it’s one of the nicest in the state. Thanks Wallingford Bowl!

low??? 4780 votes??? Learn to read and use numerics. Or maybe you think there is space to put 4780 stars across the screen! DS…if you knew ANYTHING about the bowling business, you would know who this person is. And no, I have no interest in the Hamden closing, or any other center closing. Maybe you do, but I guess thats what you live for. Most people (like you), unless you have a vested interest in this, or any center, probably get a free game to support a certain establishment. Take a valium and enjoy life away from bowling for once.

Comment Date: 5/22/2008 Name: Anonymous
Who is DS? And if they are voting so many times, why is the vote low instead of high? Very bright. You must be one of the jerks who said they spread the rumor about hamden closing.

Without a doubt..c’mon..almost 5000 inputs for ratings and only open less then a year?? I seen that figure jump over 500 times in a 24 hour period. Also, yes..the heads do make the balls denying on that. Got tired of pitching the ball out to avoid that. All I can say, they got a bum job from the installer on that one. D.S. has a bad rep from messing up other centers years ago.

To WallingfordBowlfanclub-
Your most recent post states that you “could care less”
Obviously you care very much- We wonder exactly why? What’s at stake for you here? Since you have so much time to invest in knocking us on a continual basis even though your accusations have been disproved repeatedly, and because you seem to be so very motivated to put us down, we would like to invite you into our center to discuss all of your issues. We will address them all with you. You are also invited to bowl on any or all of our lanes with us present. We can be available at almost any time to make it convenient for you. In the evening, daytime, or weekend. We’ll even buy you coffee. I can see no reason for you to decline our offer, unless you are concerned about showing us who you really are. We look forward to hearing from you.

Comment Date: 5/19/2008 Name: WallingfordBowlFanClub
It is refreshing to see a supporter, I mean a parent post again (to translate again for everyone – an owner of the center wrote fake positive reviews about their own center in a shallow attempt to make themselves look good). By the way are you the same a parent who had their childs birthday party at this center and supposedly forgot a cake and highly recommend Wallingfor Bowling Alley – see the 3/7/2008 post to jog your memory. Or are you a different a parent who read the reviews here and didnt expect to like to place? You people have the nerve to yell at and scold people here and claim they are lying when you are no better. You have to be absolutely blind to not see the bowling balls bounce on the lanes. Admit it if you want to, or dont – I could care less. The fact is that all bowlers know about the bowling balls bouncing in the heads at Wallingford Bowl, and people will not bowl there because of it. If things are going so well for the center, then spend the money to do things right and fix the lanes. Next time I am at the center I will try to take a video of the bowling balls bouncing in the heads and post it on You Tube for everyone to see that these are NOT lies written about this center. Secondly, you praise that Our bowlers had no stops at all except for a couple of ball returns, was this on the pair that your child was bowling on, or from the entire 31 out of 40 lanes? A couple of ball returns is a couple too many and is nothing to brag about there should have been 1 ball return at most if the machines were being properly maintained. Third, you claim that the snack bar was packed did you manage to see through all the people and notice if the employees were wearing gloves while handling raw and cooked food? Lastly, do you know if any youngsters had their fingers pinched in the old, outdated ball returns, or did Wallingford Bowl finally install the safety guards and decals on the old SurePiks? A note to JB that is too funny asking the owners of Wallingford Bowl to tell the truth that really was a good one! They are allergic to the truth and wouldnt know it if it hit them in the head. If they spent as much time fixing the issues in their center as they do posting fake reviews on this message board, there wouldnt be any problems.

Comment Date: 5/18/2008 Name: JB
Kyle, my release is not the problem. I think your lack of bowling knowledge is. In my last post, i did not say anything negative about you at all. I do not know you. I just mentioned a fact. The heads do bounce. maybe you do not know what the word bounce means. Even if you lay the ball down at the foul line, you will still get a little bounce, granted not as much as someone who has a little loft. The owners did not put down a cushion under the heads like they should have. Ask them, they should tell you the truth.

Comment Date: 5/16/2008 Name: Jim
~Kyle.. your league average was up 15 pins from hamden.. more of that I believe is from the inconsistency with the lanes in hamden.
From what i’ve heard the last how many ever weeks they didnt really care much, even closed the doors on your league and some other ones too!
Sure the shot is quite playable, but from any angle, allowing ANYONE to bowl well.. This is the case in most bowling centers in the state, Southington has become very easy over the past years, the only exception being colony, it was very easy for first half, then second half either went longer or wider with the oil but as long as you had a fresh pair it was scorable.
I’m really glad your league, along with many others, have chosen to bowl here at Wallingford Bowl!
… Just dont kick nothin. lol

Comment Date: 5/15/2008 Name: Kyle Shivers
JB, learn to release the ball, maybe you wont have the problem with the bounce. This does not happen for myself, or many of my fellow bowlers that were there the last two weeks. If you loft the ball or try to drive it through the ground to China, yes, the ball will bounce, otherwise, a smooth delivery will let you use the whole lane.

Comment Date: 5/15/2008 Name: Kyle Shivers
The only thing that I have found not to my liking is that the shot is a little too easy. No, i’m not complaining except for anyone who is serious and bowls outside of Wallingford Bowl will suffer from the inflated averages the give you. For two weeks our league average was up over 15 sticks from where we were at Hamden, I dont think that is a mistake, the shot is a wall and bowling on one will never give anyone a true representation of what their average should be.

I am a parent of a junior bowler who bowled there last Saturday in the Pepsi tournament. We had 31 of the 40 lanes. As a league bowler elsewhere, I had read the comments on here and didn’t expect to like this place. That goes to show that one shouldn’t believe anything written on this site about any center. Our bowlers had no stops at all except for a couple of ball returns, there was no sign of anything bouncing on any lanes. You people are crazy, this was one of the nicest places we’ve bowled at. The snack bar was packed and everyone was extremely friendly. A very nice, well run place!!!

Comment Date: 5/12/2008 Name: JB
Kyle, do not know who you are and I do not care. Whether you want to admit it or not the heads do bounce at Wallingford. That is not BS. If you enjoy the bounce, bowl there, its your choice. I really do not care who bowls there. BUT the heads do bounce !

My wednesday night league just finished up our last two weeks at the house and there was no sign of any balls bouncing or any of the bs that has been written on the site. I’m not saying that they kissed our feet, but they have done their best to make us feel welcome at their house and I’m sure our league will agree to bowl next season there. I’d love to meet some of you nameless people that just go bashing places, not just Wallingford Bowl but all houses, grow a set.

Did they fix the problem with the bowling balls bouncing on the lanes? EVERYONES who bowls there can tell you about it – they even joke about how bad it is. I wouldn’t bowl there until they fixed the lanes right.

Comment Date: 5/2/2008 Name: Manya
To the anomymous who wrote on May 1- you must be the very same liar who signed Jim’s name… I have NOT been in the bowling center in the last three weeks, I have been out of town, and anyone in the center can tell you that. What you wrote did NOT happen. What kind of a sick mind would make up lies to knock our business like this? If you were a legimate customer or a league bowler, why not come in and introduce yourself? If you want to continue to write lies, we will confront anything you write about our center. And yes, you can bet we will continue to defend any lies written about our place.

Comment Date: 5/1/2008 Name: Anonymous
Unfortunately my experience at Wallingford Bowl was not good. I made the mistake of bringing my concern to the attention of the owner who was there, Manya. Instead of trying to discuss the situation like a rational adult, she chose to become belligerent and unleash a personal attack against me and the people I was with. I will NEVER bowl at Wallingford Bowl again for this simple reason. I am not even sure what was said that set her off but it was not a good situation to be in. Bottom line is that she destroyed any chance of our league moving there. I urge anyone thinking of moving their league there to be very careful and to check out all the other centers in the area if your league decides to move there get everything they say or promise you in writing before you sign a contract as they cant be trusted. They will try to make you believe that these comments are part of some big conspiracy to bash Wallingford Bowl they are not. They are looking for scapegoats to blame for their mis-management and that is the truth.

Comment Date: 4/25/2008 Name: my league is moving here
Nice place, nice people. Do NOT believe the negative comments on here, they are simply not true. See for yourself.

Comment Date: 4/25/2008 Name: Anonymous
Pro active? Are you kidding me? Price matching is not proactive, other centers in the area have been doing it for years it is nothing new. If you want to be proactive, offer a guaranteed league rate at their current price or a reduced price (as Colony Lanes is) for 2 or more years. Prove to your league bowlers that you wont lure them in with a cheap initial rate, and then jack up the rates once you got them in there. That is proactive.

What I think is the most saddest part of all of this is that the owners(?) and employees(?) feel the need to explain themselves and defend themselves on a message board. Not to mention threatening to take action against anyone who voices their opinion about the place in a negative tone, thats says alot about how they can handle constructive critisism or perhaps they are just depending on this site for their source of advertising.I’d hate to see what they’d do to the poor sucker who complains inside the building.
Talk about insecurity, that certainly speaks volume about their business sense and lack thereof….

Comment Date: 4/16/2008 Name: Anonymous

to matt m: if you put in 7 names and only 5 players paid, the computer is only going to let you bowl (5)10 frame games, which is 50 frames.. if you have 7 players it will still shut off after 50 frames, so please be sure every name entered is paid for in advance otherwise what you said will happen, and personally i’ve never kicked anyone out, I say well you can finish the game but the other players have to pay.
As far as having bad attitudes, Everyone that works here is friendly and does their job. If you wanna see a bad attitude i could certainly be the biggest A-hole you’ll ever meet! I think it wonderful that you are becoming competive and proactive but how long do you think a fancy clean center will be able to hold up to a increasingly hard economy and a debt pay off for the amount of money dumped into this building ? I seriously doubt cash was paid for all these upgrades. They certainly weren’t done for free.
Don’t forget FOREVER is a very strong word and should be handed out carefully especially when your running up against corporate owned centers that can cut rates so low they couldn’t possibly be matched.
Nice pipe dream but highly doubtful.
Word has it BNE is learning this lesson first hand.

Don’t forget to ask Wallingford Bowl for a price. As per the previous comment (4/9/08) from one of the owners that they will match the quote you got from Colony!

Comment Date: 4/12/2008 Name: matt m
This bowling alley is nice. The lanes are good, the place is clean. The personell however is rude. AND they will kick you out at a set time and stop your games…and you pay before you play. So if you pay for 3 games…and only bowl 2 frames of the third game because they STOP you without warning….you get NO money back. Not a good way to run a business.

Comment Date: 4/12/2008 Name: Wed, nite doubles bowler
Why don’t you go in for yourselves and see if the balls bounce on the lanes and if the employees have bad attitudes. This way one can see for themselves if this is more bashing, which it is. The owners have said they will give a free game to any league bowler at any other center to try the lanes. No I am not one of the owners, I am one the league bowlers there. Speak to any of us- we will tell you how it really is. We regulars love the place.

I tried it also and was not happy – the balls do bounce excessively on the lanes and the employees had attitude problems.

They can do whatever they want because they are not corporate owned. Way to go, Wallingford! I for one wish you well. It’s refreshing to see you fight back after the bashing!

Our league was quoted by Colony Bowl that they will beat our current price at Hamden by .05 a game. That adds up in the end. My suggestion is to shop around – this is a bowlers market with everyone competing for our business!

As far as the witch hunt is concerned “Annonymous” you should only be concerned if YOU are the witch and I’m guessing you are.
It has come to my attention that someone has been telling their leagues that our league lineage price is $15. This is another lie so I will set the record straight. We were going to charge $11 dollars until yesterday when we found out that AMF is doing their best to see that we don’t get any of their Hamden bowlers. Our new policy is as follows: We will MATCH the lineage that your league is paying now,and we will MATCH any givebacks. We have become pro active in this area and we will remain that way forever.
I have been in the bowling business for 40 years and in all tht time I have never come across the ugliness that has been printed on this site and underhanded business policies of the competition.
My partners and I have stated before on this website that “WE ARE HERE TO STAY” and we weren’t joking. Wallingford Bowl is and will continue to be THE bowling center to bowl in whether it be leagues or open play. Come in and see our center and our friendly staff. You will see what I mean.

I did come in..thats why i wont be back. Lanes make the ball bounce and troublesome machines. Good center, but by far the best.

WARNING: Anyone posting anything negative about Wallingford Bowl (a bad experience you had there, a rumor you have heard, a ball return safety recall, or anything offensive to Wallingford Bowl), or giving a rating of anything but 5 stars in the survey above, you will be hunted down and persecuted by Wallingford Bowl. They will round you up and hang you out in front of the bowling alley for all the town folk to see and jeer.
Oh, you should also post all the names of the employees and co-owners who have written negative comments and lies (e.g. fctybowler, a supporter, etc.).
Good luck with the witch hunt.

I am one of the owners of Wallingford Bowl and I am apalled at the remarks about my center being made on this site, more than likely it is by a competitor who has felt the dent we have made in his business.
For those of you who have been reading the posts that knock our bowling center please listen to this.
In fact I am in the process of finding out who the culprit is who is making these false statements and we will have him prosecuted.
I promise YOU whoever you are that we will find out.
I suggest you concentrate on running your business instead of knocking ours.
I may be reached at 203-949-1100.

This is definitely not a lie. But again, no action from Wallingford Bowl. Shame.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), AMF Bowling Products of Mechanicsville, Va., is announcing a program to repair or replace Sure-Pik bowling ball returns. Consumers’ fingers can become entrapped and injured in the ball return’s belt. CPSC and AMF have received 14 reports of children’s fingers becoming entrapped in these ball returns. Injuries range from bruises and lacerations, to partial amputations and fractures. Sure-Pik ball returns were manufactured by AMF Inc. between 1973 and 1980 and are in approximately 238 bowling establishments, including military installations, nationwide. Sure-Pik is written on the side of the ball returns. For AMF-owned establishments, AMF will install plastic guards on either side of the Sure-Pik ball returns to raise the sides around the moving belt. Large warning labels will be placed on the guards. These labels are colorful pictographs warning children to keep their hands and fingers out of the ball return. For non-AMF-owned establishments, AMF will offer each owner the option of either obtaining the repair kit at cost, plus shipping and handling, or receiving a trade-in allowance of $900 toward the purchase of a new AMF C-90 ball return. AMF also will make special lease financing available for qualified owners. For all establishments using Sure-Pik ball returns, AMF will provide, free of charge, warning labels and a safety pamphlet on children’s bowling. Owners of bowling establishments using Sure-Pik ball returns should contact AMF at (800) 342-5263 for information on participating in this recall program. Consumers should look for the plastic guards and warning labels on all Sure-Pik ball returns. If consumers don’t see this, they should contact the establishment’s manager.

Bowled in the JR travel league last week. Excellent experience, high scores, no problems with lanes, we had 22 lanes. Makes me agree that bad mouthing wallingford is all lies.

Not only is Wallingford Bowl NOT closing, they are doing great and ready to welcome ALL league bowlers. If this site required REAL names, or monitored who’s writing lies, you would stop making this stuff up. This one person or other center manager has already been caught in all these lies, about Wallingford having anything to so with Hamden closing, signing false names and getting caught, etc. The web manager of this site should please look into this.

Comment Date: 4/2/2008 Name: The end for Wallingford Bowl??
I didn’t hear about Hamden closing, but I heard that Wallingford Bowl is closing end of May. Apparently they are up to their old tricks – not paying electric bill, etc.

There is someone writing all these lies on here to make this house look bad, and they have been lying. Probably one person. The real Jim caught them for one, and if any one has a real gripe, they should do what he said is call the owners and sit down with them. The truth is the jerk that is writing the lies is making all this bad stuff up, whatever his/her reason. The snack bar is clean & friendly, the center sparkles, the bar is great, there IS a sign at the front desk stating refund policy, the pro shop is the best around and they have not done anything about saying anything to anyone about Hamden. They are also very nice to all their bowlers. ALL of the regular customers love it there, just ask them. ANd the jerk that’s writing the lies should sign his real name and not pretend he’s someone else. ANd if anyone else has a legitimate gripe they should call the center and speak to the management.

It was so dirty and the staff was utterly RUDE and NASTY. Last time the nasty old lady (who I think is one of the owners named Manya) was yelling at someone and making a scene. Really bad.

so is it disgusting at wallingford pizza house? or at any other resturaunt if they prepare food with clean hands instead of using gloves?
in my personal opinion, only those with dirty hands should wear gloves.. and in the food business, no one should have dirty hands

Can someone from Wallingford Bowl update us on these issues:
1. The bowling balls bouncing on he lanes. It happens with everyone, not just those that are using older equipment. What does Wallingford Bowl plan to do to correct this?
2. Guards for the ball returns. Will Wallingford Bowl be installing these to protect their customers, or will someone have to suffer an injury before any action is taken?
It is a shame that you are cutting corners. Too bad – it could be a nice place, but isn’t.

wow look at all these comments, i hardly ever read this but i just saw my name, lol, i do work the desk and i am not related to the owners, please don’t post anything using my name or pretending to be me. i’m a very happy employee of the company and i’m shocked with all these complaints on this site.. On your average week maybe there are 1 or 2 people that complain about a small thing, lanes being too dry/easy, arcade game ate my dollar, the usual stuff.. If anyone has a legitimate problem with anything at this bowling center then by all means set up a meeting with one of the owners and I can assure you they will do their very best to resolve any troubles you are experiencing.
as for the rumors about Hamden.. This is recent news to me, I actually heard it from some bowlers in one of my leagues about a month ago, i have no knowledge of its origin, but it definitely wasn’t anyone here at Wallingford Bowl.
Thank you~

Well – don’t install the guards then – I don’t care. Just pointing out that they are a legitimate safety concern. They are free no less – so why not install them? Why not attempt to make a safe place for your customers? Put your ego aside and think of the customers for once. I hope no child gets a hand / finger pinned in there. Maybe then the parents can sue you for negligence. $$$$$ (calling all ambulance chasers…lol)

Comment Date: 3/10/2008 Name: guards? haha
not to mention that the guards themselves are a danger, i remember last time i was at hamden they had them and not only was it a pain the the butt to get my ball back but i cant recall how many times i hurt my hand from the sharp edges and corners of the guards.. its a joke seriously if your biggest concern is about kids fingers getting crushed at one bowling alley where its never been proven to happen in the, i dont know.. at least 10 years since they were installed..
so there are 14 reports from AMF and whatever? sooo out of lets say 1,000 bowling alleys that have had sur-piks, seeing at least 1,000 bowlers a week there have been 14 reports.. sooo about .0014 PERCENT.. wow thats totally unsafe!!! we should stop driving and flying and walking down sidewalks because they are dangerous more then .001% of all people get injured from it!!
Get a grip.

Dear Sir / Madam
I sincerely apologize for all of this. I was wrong in asking for my money back. It was foolish and just completely inappropriate. I should have been the better person and let it go. From what was said, it is apparent the bowling center clearly had a posted policy and that I was at fault and became, as stated, “abusive” and “very insulting”. It is so blatantly obvious that I precipitated this disagreement. Thank you for clarifying this for me. I appreciate your honesty and for not distorting the facts.
Best of luck to Wallingford Bowl. You are doing an outstanding job. Keep up the good work and I hope you have continued success in the years to come. You truly deserve it! Again, nice job and thank you for running such an outstanding bowling facility. My commendations on your hard work and superior customer service they will pay off in time. This bowling center should be a model for all others. You are a very trustworthy and honest bunch.
All hard feelings aside, if you ever need a customer recommendation in the future, dont hesitate to contact me. I would give the utmost praise to Wallingford Bowl and its world class operation.
Thank you again!

My friends and I went to bowl at this terrible bowling alley a few weeks back. One of them had a brand new bowling ball and was anxious to use it. In the middle of our fourth game the ball become stuck in the machine. We told the people at the front and the ball came back about 10 minutes later. To her surprise the ball came back and had a huge gash in it and scratches all over. We took it back up to the desk and showed the worker and they got the manger (Manaya?). She argued with us and accused us of intentionally damaging the ball and said it was due to our abuse. Even after explaining that it got stuck in their crappy machine she insisted it was our fault. She was so vile and rude it was ridiculous. The nerve of this place. The worst experience ever now my friend is stuck with a damaged bowling ball that was only a few days old. ***Dont bowl at this place***!!!!

Here in case anyone missed this. Funny there is not one recall for any other type of ball return. This must be a fluke then and should be dismissed — NOT!!!

Well, I have no ties to Wallingford Bowl. I do not know anyone who works there nor do I know the owners. I gave it a try. The machine kept dropping pins forcing me to re-rack (lane 6), my ball got stuck in the return and both the guy who got my ball out as well as the guy at the desk were very miserable and rude.
People keep mentioning how bad the previous owners were and how much of a change has taken place. I never bowled there before last month so I don’t know what it was like. All I know is I’ll never go back. I’ll stick with Hamden Lanes.

I seriously hope that anyone scheduling a birthday party there for their young ones double thinks that one. Wallingford Bowl is NEGLIGENT and UNSAFE.
We all know kids don’t practice the best common sense. There should be a GUARD in place to keep their hands out of the ball exit area – period. I would hate to explain to the parents, “yeah we know your childs hand could have gotten crushed, but we choose to be lazy and cheap.”

Last Sunday I had birthday party with 21 kids for my 6 year old at Wallingford Bowling alley. When I got there, I had forgot that when I made the reservation I told them I was bringing my own cake. The owner/manager a lady told me not to worry she would take of it. Do you know she sent someone out to get me a cake at the last minute for my mistake at no charge to me? They also provided a party hostess which I was told they always do at no cost. They also did a lot of extra things for me to make sure the party was a success. I highly recommend Wallingfor Bowling Alley.

To the guy who signed his name “I work the desk” you are definitly lying- all the desk peolpe there are members of the family of the one of the owners- they are super nice to everyone. This is a family run operation and they are doing a great job. All these bad comments were probably written by one very nasty person.

Comment Date: 3/6/2008 Name: not a bashing moron
first of all.. no you DONT work the desk there, i’ve been bowling since the place re-opened and everyone who works there seem very happy and are always helpful when you need anything.. soo if you’re that frustrated with your job then quit because i dont think any business wants to have employed unhappy people..
Second.. of all the years i’ve been bowling at T-bowl/bowlerdump/Wallingford Bowl, I dont think i can recall anyone ever getting their “fingers crushed” inside the ball return.. if you do then you are stupid, it doesnt even take common sense to know to not put your hands anywhere near there..
3. All the people bashing on here i can garuntee they are one of the following catergories:
A. A competitor bowling alley employee
B. A fired employee of a bowling alley
C. A “Fat-bastard” who first took a free game pass, then after bowling Horribly wanted to Argue over $4.00 (which is hilarious if you ask me, there is NOT a no refund policy, there is a no CASH refund policy, just like store credit, you recieve a free game pass, which is equivilent to $4)
It’s seriously pretty LOW if your writing negitive things just because you like colony better or work there..
but then again, it hasn’t changed any from the T-bowl days when every year i’d hear the same rumor from colony bowlers that T-bowl was shutting down..
I wonder who starts these rumors?
hopefully not any managers of bowling alleys, that would be awful..
Also.. if you support colony, then write things on colony’s page..
I could come up with a few bad things to say about the surrounding bowling alleys but i choose not to, i’d rather support the one i Like the best.. its that simple.
p.s. rumor NOW is that Superbowl and Hamden are closing after this season and i can almost garuntee one of those places does close in the next 2 years.

Why do all the bowling balls double bounce on the lanes there?

Comment Date: 2/23/2008 Name: bowlerA
It seems to me that there are very wide swings of opinion about this center, so I will add my 2cents worth.
MOst of the people who have complained about the place on this website
have spent about 2 hours here. Most of the people who are supportive, bowl here on a regular basis. What does that say? Did you guys ever go in there prior to the new owners taking over? Then you know there is a huge improvement. In a time when so many centers are closing, or worse yet, letting their leagues go in favor of open bowling and parties (more Money) why should you complain? You don’t have to bowl there. Also, almost ALL AMF centers require prepay and have a no cash refund policy, this is not the only place. These guys have invested mucho money, and have a right to run it their way. Some guys on here comlpained they are too expensive, then some guys complained they are too cheap and are not charging enough to even pay their rent. I do not think the owners are requiring you to go to their place, so why don’t you stay out and let the people who are happy there enjoy it. As far as being clean, it is spotless. It makes me nuts to think that I probably know most of you dopes.

Comment Date: 2/22/2008 Name: Anonymous

Hey supporter, not sure where you are coming from. My comments were about pre-pay and not getting your money back. As I said, this is stealing. You get paid for what you earn. Period ! If Wallingford Bowl is that hard up for a buck, then the problem is way deeper than what we all think. why would anyone want to bowl there when they rip you off like that and say its company policy to keep your money. Good customer service, I think not !!!!!

Comment Date: 2/19/2008 Name: Jim A
It was not a small band-aid, but a large gauze bandage that was BLOODY. It was a health hazard to leave that on the floor. I was more appalled by the 5 employees who stared at it from the front desk and 1 who walked by it on multiple occasions. They had more important things to do – like holding up the front desk. Perhaps you should spend more time cleaning and not posting on this website.

Comment Date: 2/19/2008 Name: supporter
Hey FB-
Aren’t you the previous owner who didnt put a dime into the joint and left in the middle of the night owing money to everyone? The one who everyone wrote all the negative things about? You probably are the guy thats putting the place down now. The guy who had heaters on the lanes because you didnt pay the electric? the guy who had the smelly mens room? probably the guy who wrote they are closing….doubt that, they are packed with waiting lists on the weekend and put a fortune into the place……and about prepay-it is standard in the industry, check your facts and talk to the people who have been bowling there since the new owners took over….

Comment Date: 2/19/2008 Name: Fctybowler
What jerk wrote that? The owners have other bowling centers, and just opened. They know how to run it. Do you think they re-did the whole place and will close within 3 months? You must be a brain surgeon.

Comment Date: 2/19/2008 Name: concernedbowler
“prepay-it is standard in the industry”
Is it standard industry practice to rip customers off? Do other centers have a no refund policy? Do these centers POST their refund policy or are customers informed before paying? Prepay is not the issue – stealing from customers is. Hopefully anyone who bowls here is now informed of the refund policy because the management and employees expect you to read their minds.
Comparing yourselves to an ailing bowling industry – way to go and raise the bar! Keep up the good work.

Comment Date: 2/19/2008 Name: Anonymous
All they did was put lip stick on this pig. The pinsetting machines were used, the lanes were installed incorrectly (watch how everyones ball double bounces), and they just slapped a coat of paint on the ball returns. In fact the old Sure-Piks were recalled –
At a minimum the ball returns should have plastic guards on the sides. None of them have them or warning labels. I hope someone doesn’t get there fingers crushed. Ouch.

If the bowling center is that hard up for a few bucks and does not care about customer service, then do not give back the money. And if that is their position, I would never go there or recommend anyone else to go there. It almost feels like you should be able to call the police and have them arrested.

Comment Date: 2/13/2008 Name: FB
First off, you can not take what you did not earn. Prepay $20 at the gas pump and only pump $15, you will get $5 back. Taking money from customers, money that you did not earn, is stealing. Thats the bottom line. If the center wants to promote thier business, they better treat the customers better, else they will go somewhere else. If keeping money that they did not earn is their policy, then my advice to all is to go somewhere else to bowl, practice or have parties, the owners have no class, period !

to all, prepay isnt a new york thing.i’ve been down south and up north, most centers prepay.that usually stops walk-outs,thats why they do it.try prepay in a amf pay for the # of games you’ll bowl.almost all amf centers wont give you your money’ll end up with free game coupons.if i was a owner of a bowling center today,i also would do prepay, what happened @ wallingford bowl,i dont advice, prepay for only 1 game.

I had heard that when Wallingford Bowl was re-opened, they spent a lot of money and really made the place look good. I went there for the first time yesterday and found it to be a letdown. The lane I was bowling on kept dropping pins out of the pin spotter. I had to rerack at least 6 or 7 times. After two games, the ball return stopped working and my ball got stuck 1/2 way up the ramp. They had to change my lane. I am not sure what equipment is new but it sure was not the covers on the ball returns. They look older than I am and it looks like they just slapped some paint on them.
The other issue, and probably more important towards the proper running of a business, is the lousy attitude of the people working there. They were just miserable. They guy at the desk was miserable and the guy who retrieved my ball when it got stuck in the return just took it out, threw it on the rack and didn’t say a word…a jerk.
I’ll stick with Colony, Hamden or Milford for bowling in the future.

Wow, an ad for the pro shop. First off, their shop is not fully stocked. they have about 8 balls or so on the wall and a few boxes of tape and some gloves. As far as their drilling ability, who knows.

Gary was on TV years ago as a he is bowing right handed.. Drop in and check out the New Pro Shop very nice.. Gray or Matt are there until 8pm on weekdays and on Saturdays in the afternoon..

If you goto a pay first gas station and give them $20 and only pump $15, you always get back $5. They did not give you back a refund for the game NOT bowled. That really stinks ! I would go somewhere else to bowl. Seems like the new owners are more intersted in the cash register than providing good customer service.

it just goes to show how customer service is Sooooo IMPORTANT..Fat Boy we are Sorry..about your 4 beans…also Why do the balls bounce when i throw (roll) the ball…at wallingford Bowl..
especially lane 21…
Many bowlers at Colony have not even gone to Wallingford Bowl..these are guys who bowled for 20 years there in the past…
How hard would it have been to give Fat boy his 4 dollars back since he didn’t even bowl the two games…Big mistake…also is this a New York thing where you need to pay first…?
when i bowl there the people are GREAT to me..
i normally pay $12.00 for 4 games (pre pay).
my issue is that i usually bowl on the wrong lane
a few times..because i am stupid…Ha Ha..
so for you smart guys you guess lane turn off in the middle of the last game and thats all folks.
i am the type of guy who doesn’t go back up and get more time unless it porn..ha ha So it is a bad experience for me…
again leaving bloody banages laying around is VERY bad if your trying to get full time bowlers.
as i said above the folks are very nice people..i am sure with a name like Fat_basterd (is that you Vic M.)they are happy he doesn’t bowl there…ha ha…Vic can make a ball bounce….Big time…

To quote one of the employees looking at the dirty / bloody bandages “That looks nasty.” The bandages were still there 2 hours later pushed next to someone’s bowling bag. A clean place it is not.

Comment Date: 2/5/2008 Name: mike A.
Anyone can come on here and say what ever they want, but for anyone to say this is not a clean place is ridiculous. go see for your self it is the cleanest bowling center in the state by a mile. you may not like it for whatever reason but it sure is clean.

I have been bowling on a league at the new wallingford bowl since they first reopened, and I can tell you that the new staff and owners do everything to keep the bowlers happy. They give more than any other place i have ever bowled in, and i’ve been around a long time. I would also like to say that the fat guy that wrote either bowled very badly in that tourn. and had a nasty attitude or has a hidden adgenda-anyone who can get that ugly over $4 has an ulterior motive.

I just wanted to relay a bad experience this weekend at Wallingford Bowl in Wallingford, CT. It is the old T-Bowl aka Bowler Land, but it is still the same old dump.
I bowled a tournament and wanted to practice a few games before the squad, so I got a lane down at the other end of the house. They made me pre-pay (no biggie), and I paid for 2 games. They put me next to some slower open bowlers, so I wound up only playing one game.
So I go up to the desk afterwards and tell them that I paid for 2 games and only bowled one so I want my $4 back. She said, sorry we don’t give refunds. She said basically tough luck. So the manager walks over and says – I can give you a free game coupon. The tournament was starting, so I took it and went to bowl.
When I was done bowling I went back up and asked to speak to the manager again – since the free game coupon does me no good since I live about 40 minutes away from the place. The desk girl goes to the managers office and closes the door and appears a minute later and says sorry but no cash refunds. Manager wouldn’t speak to me. I asked the desk person if there was any sign saying no refunds (there wasn’t) and if I was told before I paid (I was not).
I called the manager afterwards and she asked me why I didn’t speak to her. I told her that I tried but you decided to sit on your *** in the office and pretend like nothing happened.
The center was closed for almost a year for not paying bills, etc. They lost all leagues and are now trying to rebuild it. Customer service like this will get them no where.
Avoid Wallingford Bowl at all costs – Colony Lanes down the road is a better choice.

Comment Date: 2/4/2008 Name: Jim A
This place is so bad. There were dirty bandages on the floor and all the employees just stood around and stared at them. Not a very clean place.

I Bowled at this center last october when it was Bowlerland and the place was DISGUSTING and now that it is under new ownership I decided to do the upcomeing tournament thats coming there (JBT) so I took a drive down there to check it out and bowl there. WOW they have done a complete 180 and dont get me wrong I think colony is a really nice alley I go to every JBT event there but the new wallingford bowl is a really nice place nothing wrong with it the lanes play nice I was throwing a T-road pearl on it throwing my normal shot its a good alley!!!

Comment Date: 2/3/2008 Name: Jon Matunas
Wallingford Bowl has the worst customer service. If you prepay and don’t bowl all of the games you paid for – they will not refund your money. This is stealing. Stay clear of this place and go to Colony Lanes, right down the road, Amity Bowl, Circle Lanes, Superbowl, Silver Lanes or any other bowling center in CT.

Comment Date: 2/3/2008 Name: Anonymous
You are right..ever think that this one may close to, due to lack of income? Bowling is not popular as it once WAS. Even with all the centers that closed, they are all still fighting to build revenue. Only the hard core bowlers will be around, but they, eventually leave the game. Blame ABC/USBC for ruining it. Too high-tech for most bowlers. 300 games & 800 series mean nothing nowadays. You gotta go back to the 70’s to see when bowling was “real”.

Comment Date: 1/24/2008 Name: Jon
a lot of you jerks are coming on here complaining about Wallingford Bowl. For once be happy that a bowling center has beed rejuvinated and not closed down. Too many centers have closed in CT.

Comment Date: 1/19/2008 Name: Anonymous
Big WOW…2 bucks a game during prime time wont even pay the utilities, nevermind payroll. insurance, taxes, notes,( which are HUGE), upkeep, etc. Just an act of desperation trying to get bowlers in the door. Great for the bowler, but bad business practice for paying bills.

Comment Date: 1/6/2008 Name: Anonymous
Guess what? They charge their league bowlers only $2 a game anytime, even cosmic on weekend nights. ANd free shoes if the league bowler doesnt have any. Try getting that at hamden or anywhere. This place is ok in my book. It’s run by human, nice people, NOT a corporation.

Had the best time here on New Years! They have done a great job.

Comment Date: 12/6/2007 Name: What IF
What if Colony & Super Bowl CLOSE..
then Wallingford Bowl would do well..However,
there still here…
So why would there Bowlers leave..?
Some Bowlers like light oil they throw it hard and stright..those bowlers will love Wallingford
Bowl…other bowlers like a little more oil so they don’t need to throw it real hard..those are your older bowlers who have grooved arm swings..
they will do ok at Wallingford Bowl..then there are the bowlers who needs lots of Oil they use High tech bowling balls and rip the cover off the ball
they will need to adjust or use weeker bowling balls or plastic ,rubber…women, kids and lefties
like them on the light oil side…Most bowlers have an A game, B game and C game..depending on what type of bowler you are..You may love Wallingford bowl, Colony, or Super Bowl..
Do you know what the average Condition is for the above Bowling Centers…? if you talk to Bowlers for 5 minutes you will know what they like…if your center matches there game..why should they go to the other center and adjust…Lefties know there side of the lane will hold up better than the right side less adjusting…Dud…So make sure your NOT talking to a lefty they want the easy shot because if there is heavy oil they will be too tough to break down in 3 games with only one or two lefties bowling on that side…it is what it is…and thats what it is…If the Big Boys at the Top who don’t bowl decide to close Super Bowl and Colony then Wallingford Bowl will be all set and make money..However if Super bowl and Colony are still here for the next 10 years..they will not get there money back on there investment…thats just the way it is…Good for the bowlers Bad for the owners…

What’s interesting is that this is obviously a new bowling center, and despite many positive comments and a lot of support, some people seem to be very strongly putting it down. ANd some of the put downs are just not true, like that the lanes are old (they are new) and like old wood will rot again. It seems to me that it must be either because someone’s afraid of competition, or extremely jealous… possibly the previous ownership…..I wonder- why don’t you jealous or scared people just buzz off and bowl somewhere else?

Comment Date: 12/2/2007 Name: alkydalk

I have to stand up for the new place, it seems they have put in a lot of time and effort into the place. Lets give credit where credit is due. The lanes are all new synthetics HPL’s and the place is always clean.

Comment Date: 12/2/2007 Name: Real Truth!!! From a supporter!
Machines 82/90’s single board. New synthetic HPL lanes. New gutters and bumpers automatic at that, does the competition have the automatic ones or do you still have to do it the old fashioned way? Nice and clean bar separate from where kids have parties,3 plasma’s and one projection. You can go watch the game or 4 different events at the same time. New and clean bathrooms.Seperate kids party room. Kid’s parties get a hostess at no charge who else has that within 3o minutes? As far as prices are concerned do the math they are on the same level as all the other centers. Try to look around hard at the numbers then comment. A lot of choices at the snack bar. Extreme bowling is a lot of fun, not just some cd on repeat! Still no hourly packages but last I heard they are working on them and will have them out soon. The pro shop is nice and the owner is a very helpful guy. There is nothing negative to say about this place unless there are other centers or people that feel threatened by this place opening up, those are the ones that would want to write negative stuff!I think they should be supported not talked bad about. One more think the shot is fine in that place, if you have a problem with the shot maybe you need some lessons. The had a tournament there a few weeks ago and the scores were pretty high. Every center puts out theie own shot it does not make one better then the other. If you are a serious and good bowler you let me give you a tip ADJUST to the shot. The mechanic is very good at what he does and for the most part there are not that many machine problems for such a big center with a new install. Please point out what center in the world has ZERO problems. I think they have less problems then some centers who have been open. So please be real and human to the new owners. They tried hard to open a place for people to come and have good time. Why would we as residents of the town want to ruin that? It was run down and now it is a nice, clean and friendly place to go.
Thank YOu

The Wallingford Bowl is much improved since the renovations. Unfortunately, I felt the lanes are not that much improved and it looks as though they are still the same Lanes from T-Bowl. I would recommend Colony lanes more, but still a decent bowling alley.

A. The wood was not painted over it was taken off.
B. I have spoken to the owners and they are nice people who want to create a clean friendly place for people to bowl. Yes there is colony, however both lanes have existed together for many years. Colony is corporate and can afford to give away 99 cent games, but if there is a problem, trying to get a free game out of them with corporate looking over the shoulder is like pulling teeth. I had a problem in the first few days but who doesn’t when you open a new center? I got 1 free game for every game that I had a problem with. I understand them they brought in new machines and new software. You will have issues in the beginning like any business. All I know is they are much nicer then any other center, the bathrooms are very clean and the prices are competitive. However you will always will have people complaining no matter what you do or how much you try to please them.

Comment Date: 10/22/2007 Name: Anonymous
bottom line, you paint over rotton wood and eventually the rot will again appear.

Sounds like the Colony employees are getting nervous about competition and my guess is theie writing the negative stuff about this new place. These people took a run down decrepit place and made it beautiful and they deserve support. The prices are in line with every place else and from what I hear, their going to give colony a run for their money. If you go in there, it would be hard to find anything negative to write about.

Comment Date: 10/13/2007 Name: Ozio
Wow..from $2.00 to $4.00 per game jump in 2 weeks? Don’t sound too good, along with the food prices. I think they made a bad mistake dumping $$$ into that place. As previously posted, too many centers to bowl in within a short ride. I;ll go where the pricing is better.

really neat…and only $2.00…Boy you can really see when you miss your target…
they also have seating outside for Smoker’s
pretty cool when it is warm…
and pitcher’s of BEER…the food prices are AMF prices $7.95 for hamburger, fries, large soda..
the people running the Bowing Center are real nice…the shot is not like Colony…you will need to be a Spare Shooter…

can you say Circle lanes…
They need BOWLERS and they are ready to extend there NEW YORK hospitally…very Nice People..

Stop by thursday Night…it looked Great..However,
still not open yet..they were checking out the Machines by throwing balls at the pins…
So thats what bowling is… Not sure where they are going to get the Bowler’s…Well as long as they can pay the Mortage payments….each Month
and the Employee’s get a paycheck thing should be good for awhile. I guess the Question is Why would Bowler’s go there. You can get a 99 cent
coupon from Brunswick for 10 games..can they beat that..?
Is there Lane Condition going to allow bowler’s to score HIGH
Will they be more freindly than Hamden Lanes…
or Colony or Super Bowl…
What makes them so special after the NEW wares off…? can we bowler’s support 4 centers with in 30 min. of each other..?
this could be tough………Good Luck

If you were a mechanic for 30 years, you would know AMF’s are “pinspotters” and Brunswicks are “pinsetters” And “know” is not spelled “no”. If the place got Qubica Scoring , I am sure there are plenty of LIU’s available. (That means Lane Interface Unit). I commend the new owners for taking on such a high priced renovation, but don’t say that everything is new, when it in fact is not, and when you spend tons for a scoring system, what good is it without all the required parts? I am beginning to believe that system is used also. When it comes to machines (AKA Pinspotters), if they were junk from another Center, that’s exactly how they will run. I wish everyone associated there the best, and a totally fantastic opening. (Whenever that will be)

Comment Date: 9/5/2007 Name: rmajors-amf mechanic
when it comes to stuff, that you need to run any type of machine, back orders do been a head mechanic for yrs,i’ve ran across that many times, especially with automatic scoring.machine parts,as well.there’s nothing u can do about it.youhave to remember, there are 1000s,other bowling centers, that also could use the part(s).so,if someone tells u they’re waiting for whatever it is,it’s a fact.dealing with amf for scoring or pinsetter parts, you have no clue, what the center goes thru.if amf don’t have it stock, there’s not much u can do,but wait.some parts,i’d have to wait 4 know why, because they ran out of stock.i’ve been to amf plant in’s big,but it doesn’t mean they have everything in stock.i’m sure brunswick goes thru the same thing.used 8270s,are just as good as new.the 8290s,are almost the the same, except for a large computer, that covers both machines,in back.amf milford lanes has them.8290s,are not cheap.lane machines, are not cheap, scoring too, isn’ takes a lot of money & no how,to run a center.i’ve been around them,30yrs.

What a negative, downright silly statement to make, that they are lying. I was in the other day and one of the very nice new owners, a woman, explained to me that they are waiting on a last piece of equipment from AMF that ties together the scoring with the pinsetter machines, and that AMF has delayed shipment 2 times already. But think about it, why would you say they are lying? DOn’t you think they wanted to open in time for league season? Before you start mud slinging, remember that we have waited a long time for someone to sink $$ into this place. For goodness sakes, let’s give them a chance before you call them liars. By the way, the place looks great. I’m wishing them luck.

last jbt i bowled at was at BL, we stated an hour late thanks to the machines crapping out. I have some fond memories of tbowl/bl like when lane 40 tried to make my spare ball fly (had to plug and redrill both fingers), one of the surepiks ate my finger grips and the proshop didnt have the right size to replace them. and best of all having the sweep come down sideways and hearing the mechanic yell profanities because of how messed up it was. As for BNE liking brunswick stuff, all of the equipment in BL is/was AMF: sure-pik ball returns, qubica scoring, and 82-30 pinspotters (last house that i know that ran them)

I can’t believe what some of you people have posted here under the blanket of anonymity. Scathing personal attacks, “i told u so’s” etc.. Makes me wonder how many of you attackers were nice to the owner Frank’s face, because having bowled there and met Frank (who always worked hard and always had a smile and a friendly word for everyone, at least when I was there) these attacks are ridiculous. Buisnesses go up and come down, it happens. If this is how the people I bowled with and had fun with act behind someones back and after the fact, I’m glad I don’t bowl with you all anymore. Sorry it didn’t work out Frank!

the lanes were shut down for owing $$$ to everyone, no heat, etc. The tuesday league was there for 30 years. He didnt listen to our comments and stood by his help that was fired from other centers.
This is a wake up call on how not to run a business. We wanted to stay there but promises of fixing the lanes went by the wayside. Thedesk help was pitaful. The mens room flooded one night. No one would clean it. It was the cleaning service job, not theirs. The mens room always smelled bad and the same debris was in the same corners week after week.
All the great comments had to be from the owner and staff. All the negative ones were for the most part true.
Frank, too bad. hate to see someone try a business and fail. Unfortunately bowling is a dying sport and there is no promotion of kids leagues anymore. Sorry to see the house i bowled in and worked at when a kid go under.

Comment Date: 11/3/2006 Name: Anamous
I bowled ther in a tournament and the lanes were bad and there was thing s wrong with the ball returns and i think that place needs to be remodled big time.

Comment Date: 9/24/2006 Name: some one who cares
Maybe we will get lucky and someone will buy the place from Frank and put in new AMF lanes. It seems obvious he can’t get it done & I left because of the poor lane conditions and would love to return to a new updated center. I won’t go to another center so I guess I won’t be bowling. There must be others who feel the same as I do. What do you say?

Comment Date: 9/12/2006 Name: Anonymous
Never fear I’m sure AMF or Bowl NE will snatch the center up as the area is beginning to redevelop…Besides BNE seems to love using the Brunswick equipment as most would probably see in Vernon and Bristol.

Well the unofficial word is that Bowlerland is filing bankruptcy protection. Amazing Frank you lasted a year and soon the doors will be chained shut.
Here is some word of advice to all:
Frank: Just because you bought a bowling center doesn’t mean that you could run a bowling center. It is so obvious that you are a retard when it comes to running a business. Spend some more time in your own center instead of bowling 4 nights out of the week in another bowling center and your business may have had some sort of chance. And Frank, never, never, never hire fired staff from another center, isn’t it obvious that they were fired from AMF for complete and utter lack of responsibility to perform their duties. But again, this is difficult to see when you are never around. Also Frank when your staff spends more time tearing apart other employees in an attempt to make themselves look good, then it is quite obvious that they themselves are worthless pieces of poo. Any finally Frank, never ever alienate your customers, without them you have no business, with no business you end up they way you are now.
Doreen and Dan: You two need to go to a store and buy a product that has been around for years, it is called soap. I realize that the two of you grew up in a time when baths were taken on Saturday night, but in the adult world we shower and put on clean cloths everyday. Spend some time doing your own jobs next time instead of attacking the only true staff that existed at Bowlerland. Take the initiative to lead by example, not backstab. Show people you are willing to do the exact same things you want them to do by doing those things yourself. Leading by deceit, backstabbing and laziness is what makes you the pieces of poo you are today. Isn’t it time you two turned over a new leaf? Soap and honesty are good starting points.
Before the end of September, Bowlerland will become another closed center. Remembered only by the loyal few customers of what a great lady she once was. It is no surprise she is gone only a shame it was in the hands of morons.

I think every that is complaining just needs to take a breath about every comment here is saying that frank didnt do this and he didnt do that i bet half of you here dont know the first thing about running a buisness im sure he is a very busy person trying to do everything since the staff isnt a great amount of help to him when i go bowling there all i see him do is work while the staff sits around remember he is paying them to do nothing so give the guy a brake im sure he isnt a millionaire and cant fix everything at once we all arent millionaires or else we wouldnt be bowling there we would have a bowling alley in our house if we loved the game that much so just relax im sure everything will look great when it is all finished.

Oh I dont need leagues says the onwer open bowlers we bowl and pay the bills. Went to Colony the other day. 3 people 3 games each no problems at all. Well its finally all over. Leauges are all over and I know longer have to show up at this dump of a center. Thank you Frank for making my last year of bowling the WORST it truly can be. For all those not familiar with Frank…”I couldnt care less that either leagues are leaving…” That is what Franks had to say when informed that Tuesday Business Industrial League and Thursday Twin City League was leaving at the end of the year. Well it has happened…both are gone, and its all a matter of time before the doors are chained. Goodbye T-Bowl Lanes….
To all of those that hated it as much as I …see you in the next place.

I came across this web site and decided to start reading. I have frequented t-Bowl/BowlerLand on and off for appr. 7 yrs, so I’m definetly not new here, and I have some comments. It seems to me that alot of people that have made comments are very angry and I have a hard time believing that a good portion of it is not personal, which should be left out of here!!! I read comments about oiling, stripping, lanes needing to be replaced and machines acting up… Well, I have bowled in quite a few bowling centers in this state and others, for that matter, and I have yet to find one that doesn’t have these same problems. Granted there may periodically be more of a problem here, but people need to give it time, last time I checked money didn’t grow on trees. As for all the comments on the carpet, did anyone ever think that Frank had no choice but to put in new carpet as one of his first projects. Come on, we all know how sue happy people are now a days. If Frank hadn’t replaced it (and anyone griping knows how bad it was before) anytime anyone walked through that door, it was a lawsuit waiting to happen. And, people keep complaining that Frank is not fixing things as fast as they would like them too, well when you decide to try and get up enough guts to try and start living the American dream and running your own business, then you can BI***!!! And just for one more comment, I have bowled on other leagues in the past at “the other lanes in town” and I can’t even begin to tell you how many times we had to complain about machines not working properly or lanes never being oiled!!! Everyone needs to mind their manners and be patient… Be careful what bridges you burn here, cause this center will one day be completely back on track!!!!

Comment Date: 3/25/2006 Name: This is a funny bowling alley
Well I think most league bowlers are counting down till the end of the year. And what a long year it has been. Give us time this place says. Well with time stuff got worse more break downs more having to move and sometimes 2 times a night. 40 lane center with maybe 30 the work and who knows how many of those work without many problems but not many. Mechanics are useless. I think that is why there is so many problems. Mechanics that use to work there years ago at least knew how to fix them and not just rig them up to work right for a frame or 2. Wouldnt be surprized to see this place go under real soon. Hope that carpet matches an employees interior of a house so they can get some use out of it. I heard the unemployment office arent that busy so you wont have to wait that long for a check. Good thing a GO KART TRACK is going in that plaza so there will still be something there.

Frank – keep up the improvements, but get rid of the staff! Hire people who actually are happy to have a job and don’t use offensive language in front of all your customers! Your staff is awful!

Comment Date: 3/10/2006 Name: Anonymous
Joy – You are lucky, as I remember bowling that night only 18 of the 40 lanes would work, you must have had one of those 18. We were moved twice in the first four frames, after six frames we quit, asked for our money back and was told refunds are not possible that we could have some game passes. We left with no passes, but for the 24 dollars we paid we have spread the word to friends and family to stay far far far away from Bowlerland!

Comment Date: 2/2/2006 Name: Joy
I just returned to bowling and find the staff helpful and never had a problem with break downs in the lanes. Keep up the good work Frank. Also enjoyed the Karakoe and live entertainment in the lounge on Friday. My friends and I enjoyed singing between games. Pizza is good too.

Comment Date: 1/27/2006 Name: Pin Killer
All those who are complaining about this center need to remember that when it was T-Bowl Lanes they wheren’t spending money on anything and the machines had plenty of problems. At least now there is an owner on site whereas before the owner might have shown up 5 times in the time he owned it.

Comment Date: 1/13/2006 Name: Billy
This place is Awesome!!! I’ll be there every week for league night and maybe a day or two in between. New pins provide more power and better carry. Also, new carpet looks fabulous. No lane breakdowns since our league started either. Keep up the great work!

Comment Date: 1/4/2006 Name: League Secretary
I have been bowling at T-Bowl/BowlerLand since 1980. Many people in my league have been bowling there for 30-41 years. In the 1980’s T-Bowl was very good, but there were 2 particular lanes that would break down almost every week. When it was sold in the mid-eighties to a league bowler, there was no investment in maintenance or anything. That is when we saw a lot more machines break down weekly. When T-Bowl was losing money, it was sold to a guy who already had 5-6 alleys. He spent a million dollars on the carpet, the lockers, new seating, and the bar. He pretty much neglected the machines, the lanes, and the pins. That is when a few leagues had enough and left. Also leagues like ours saw half of the teams leave, and a lot more turn over of bowlers. This was mostly due to the machines breaking down. Our league still has not recovered. So, now we have a new owner, Frank, who only owns this one alley. He is there regularly, unlike the previous owners. He is investing money in pins, the carpet, and the scoring tables. He provides paper goods for league parties. He provided wine on opening night and Christmas for our patience and patronage. No other owner did that! The message is be patient. Change is coming, positive change for once. The lanes will be replaced. So far this year, we had one lane break down on one night out of 18. That is a significant improvement over prior years, and proves that proper maintenance and fixing of these 60 year old machines is now taking place.
I have not had a problem with the management staff, and Carmen has always gone the extra mile for me. As far as the younger staff, you can’t tell me that any other alley is better, or people do not go on breaks during their shift. As far as bowler attendance, during the holiday break, the alleys were full and people were waiting for open bowling. BowlerLand looks very promising, and I am happy our league will continue its long tradition at the center. Thanks BowlerLand Staff and Frank, and I for one will be patient as I promised.

Since Frank bought the place he has not done much with it he doesn’t have a clue to what he is doing maybe he has got some new pins and a new carpet but who cares about that {expletive deleted} what you need to do Frank is not worry about the pins and the carpet and start putting your money into fixing the lanes like you said. You said you were going to put in new lanes in December but December is here and there are no new lanes. Also you need to stop hiring people every two weeks. Quite frankly it seems that you can’t even run a business because you are a dumb a** that doesn’t have a clue to what he is doing. And I thought your employes are there to help people well they can’t even do something that simple and why is it every time I go there I always see your mechanic Dan and Doreen always outside kissing and smoking. You want this place to be family oriented then that’s not acceptable – parents don’t want their kids seeing that. This place is a piece of {expletive deleted} and I give it less than a year to shut down. As well I’m not surprised that all the league bowlers always complain when we bowl because your RETARD EMPLOYES DON’T HAVE a clue about the game of bowling anyways.

As I read the comments from the readers, some make sense whiles others are just bad blood. I don’t know many of the staff but I have been a regular bowler there at at all the centers close over the years, do I can speak from experience. I’m very glad the new owner bought it. I’ve had the chance to chat with him briefly and seen him chat with many others. He seems to be a very positive, knowledgeable individual that is trying very hard to meet all our demands, which are many to be sure. I know the machines and lanes can be very frustrating to any serious bowler. But remember (T-Bowl) was going down fast with no hope for a recovery. Now, we have more than hope, we have a new caring owner, who in time will put Bowlerland on the map again. Yes, even I, only a 150 average player gets frustrated sometimes. But I know and have faith in the MAN. Believe me, I wanted new stuff as soon as I knew there was a new owner. Boy am I blind, I had no idea how much of an invesatment this was to him. I don’t think he knew either. That’s ok, becuase I heard him say no matter what it takes he will try to get all the things to do the job and make us all happy, Now I know you can’t pleaes everyone, but I’m sure most of us will be elated. No one is perfect (not even me) so I suspect this undertaking was much more than he thought. Even that’s ok, because I know we will still have problems going forward, but I will know that he is going forward with to make all us happy we’re here. I’m wlling to give him time ……..already he’s doing things…I know things are much better already but he still has many things to do…that’s all – just wanted to hear from an average Joe.

Is this the place that was bought by someone that runs a weekly tournament, the same tournament that gets like 15 to 20 entries. From what I have seen of the place he will be lucky to get 15 or 20 league bowlers. And yes you can say that the place is falling apart. Just try to bowl a league there, it might take you all night. Nothing works right and the desk people are always outside when you need someone. So to recap – who cares about new carpet or new pins when nothing works. Why would you want to go there and give a group of rejects and know it alls your money. And to make things worse, the bowling center at the other end of town is newly remodeled and clean, and the people there are a lot more friendly and knowlegeble about their jobs.

Comment Date: 12/13/2005 Name: fed up with bowler dump
I really have no clue who SD is but changing a carpet and putting signs up does onot make things better. Who wants to sit around and wait for lanes to get fixed while the staff is no working hard enough to get it fixed . Can u explain why they are outside smoking or kissing??? fix the lanes cause who wants to get out an hour after everyone else cause the lanes keep breaking down? and id rather walk on an old rug and still get out at a decent hour. every week we have problems and the dont FIX it. what they do is ghetto rig it to get you thru a few more frames. U want time its been getting worse with the lanes every week. fix the lanes before anything else

Comment Date: 12/13/2005 Name: League Bowler
hahahahaha New carpet doesn’t help the machines work right or the help really help…….The sign out front, who really cares what it is called, bowlerland TBOWL whatever….and new pins well they needed them seeing the old ones were like throwing at a bunch of saw dust glued together…… Lets see some new machines or new lanes or something that would actually help a bowling alley and the BOWLERS.

Comment Date: 12/12/2005 Name: SD
Sounds to me like Fed Up with Bowerland and League bowler are either Ex Employees that may have gotten fired or friends of someone that did get fired. I’ts obvious to anyone that has been in Bowerland, in the last few months, that there have been some changes and improvements that have taken place. Can they honestly say that the place is going downhill and nothing is being done to improve it? What about the New carpet? Or the New Pins? Or the new Sign out front? Changes take time. Give the guy a Break from what Ive seen hes trying.

Comment Date: 12/8/2005 Name: FED up with Bowlerdump
This place is a joke. I can’t believe what kind of place this has been turned into since the mid 90’s. I mean who wants to come to a place where machines break down constantly and the people there have no idea on how to fix it. Ever since they fired their previous head mechanic it’s gone to hell. No matter what their reasons were to firing him at least the machines worked. The people who work the desk are never a help when you need em and most of the time they are outside smoking, or in a particular instance the other day I saw the head mechanic(or so called ) and the woman who works the front desk outside kissing. Is this any way a business should be run? If Frank is gonna ask for feedback then he should listen cause it’s obvious if he wants them to keep coming back then he should take care of them before they go elsewhere. Most of their staff are teenagers who stand around aimlessly and when asked to do something they have no idea on how to do it. I am sick to the point of pretty much quitting bowling altogether and really hate walking in there to bowl my league cause ..IT’S NO FUN ANYMORE!!!! Frank heed these words before you lose your buisness.

Comment Date: 12/8/2005 Name: League bowler
Well I have to say this place is going down hill and doing it fast. Last night for example lane would not reset the 3 pin whenever left and it happened like 5-10 times. Think the Mechanic would fix it but no just reset the pin maybe if they fixed the problems instead of working around them they would have time to fix other things. Plus the long haired women looking man wearing nail polish can’t stay behind the counter at the snack bar maybe if you want more business you should have your employees manning there stations. Almost don’t even want to bowl there any more too many headaches and no longer fun. The owner doesn’t approach the leagues at all he just hides his coward face in his office and most of the staff but a couple have no personality. Thank God an indoor go kart truck is opening in back soon at least one fun thing to do in the area after getting pissed bowling.

X marks the spot can I ask you something? If this center is so bad, why do you bowl there?

Comment Date: 11/2/2005 Name: X Marks the Spot
Fb13…Can you reply to any of these remarks or are you too afraid. You are the owner so why not stand up for the business you are trying to make worse. At the current pace of things I can see the center closing within the year. Much like the previous owner this guy is a liar also. New this new that, same old song and dance. At least the previous owner had the common sense to hire people that knew what they were doing. Do yourself a favor before it’s too late…Beg all of the staff that you fired to come back and work there. Maybe you can salvage the place for this season anyway.

Comment Date: 10/26/2005 Name: X Marks the Spot
True that this center was sold. It is now been a few months since the new owner has taken charge, and nothing has been done. I bowl in this center, and Frank the owner has yet to do anything to improve the center. This have gotten much worst actually. The lanes are poorly treated, and everything that was bad is now 1000% worse. The staff that was there are practically all gone, and the new staff are dumber than ever. Good help is hard to find…especially when they were all fired. Good Job to a worthless owner.
***To Frank: Do youself a favor, Sell the Place before before the stupid people working the place burn it to the Ground.

Bowlerland is a joke, the new head mechanic is a moron. The new owner is one too for hiring the guy. One night the lanes are supposed to be stripped and oiled, but just oiled. The next night the lanes are stripped and not a drop of oil put on them. The troll at the counter tells us it’s a sports shot. These people are complete idiots!

Comment Date: 7/30/2005 Name: Fb13
T-Bowl has recently been sold 4 days ago. The new owner has plans to renovate and spruce the place up. Over time, the bowlers will see some very welcome changes there. First change is the center has been renamned to Bowlerland. Bowlers, please be patient!

Comment Date: 1/29/2005 Name: Bowler Guy
T-bowl lanes is a bit broken down, many of the score tables are busted, prolly 4/5 on average and the pin setters get stuck a lot as well as balls in the back. However it is a pretty decent lane, I prefer it to colony, and John Mclarren of their pro shop is an *awesome* guy. Very friendly, helpful and a professional at ball fitting/drilling. I highly recomend him if you need your ball drilled.

There is an employee named Jack who works at T-bowl, he is very rude and a general jacka–. He should spend more time helping or addressing paying customers than picking up 14 year old girls.

I recently attended a birthday bowling pizza party at Leamy Hall Bowling Lanes. Outstanding service with very friendly employees. They have the ability to offer pizza or there is a little restaurant down the hall for other items, such as, hamburgers, hotdogs, assorted sandwiches etc. It’s obvious they pumped some money into the bowling lanes because of the new automatic scoring system, new sound system, fresh paint and they now offer glow in the dark bowling. A very fun experience.

Only six lanes, but a great time. Just updated Scoring and black lights, new paint. Going to expand this fall (07). The best sevice anywhere!! Average lane down time, I guess. Can’t beat the price 1.50 per game. Must have a military, retired, or Gov’t ID card or sponsor though.

First of all if u get a pair of lanes, they are not oiled exactly the same! If i can average 200 here i can average the same anywhere else! Spare time is one of my toughest houses out of the other 2 leagues i bowl weekly. No matter what center you go to the lanes are not exactly the same. Whoever is being a baby over lane conditions and want the oil to be exactly the same on a pair, just bowl on lanes that have no oil on it with a plastic ball otherwise youll be complaining about the oil.

Some of the staff at spare time are clueless. They put open bowlers next to league bowlers. Train ur staff right! Donot put any open bowlers with no lane courtesy next to league bowlers when they are trying to practice. Im sick and tired of some of the attitudes that come from certain staff, it’s sick

Whoever is blaming the lane conditions on the house manager. U need a reality check. The center manager is a true sweetheart pam! If ur so enraged about lane conditions try bowling on pba condition, im sure u wont be at ease! If the house has an oil pattern not to your liking complain to the head mechanic! For one, he puts down a fair shot and i love the challenge.! Take it from a pro’s perspective. What u bowled on. , thats how pba conditions break down! Actually bowling on non fresh oil patterns is fun for me, play the “find the shot” game! Youll become more versatile. Just enjoy

I always see bowlers complain about how the oil is transitioning or complaining why there ball is not hooking to there expectations. Conditions these days are tough in my opinion you have to learn to multi task in bowling. Ur favorite hook shot may notlook pretty the next wk. Multi tasking is learning your equipment and playing different lines. Spare time is not an easy house to bowl in so, i know the next week is not gonna look like the previous week. I average over 220 and i know when its time to adjust. Take my tip; multitask and get away from your comfort zone

I wonder if they have any plans on putting some oil on the lanes this season ?
Its been so dry I thought I saw a tumble weed the other night.
Don’t bother complaining to the manager because she is clueless…

I recently bowled here for the first time in a long time and I was extremely impressed. The renovations were spectacular and I felt like the center was really interested in giving their customers a great bowling experience. The flat screen tv’s were great, the snack bar is fantastic(food and price) and it was very clean. My only problems were having to pay up front for bowling and the extremely dry lane conditions. I have no idea how many games I am going to bowl, so how do I decide up front how many to tell you. Other than that, it is a great bowling experience.

If you are really a staff member, based on your spelling….we can now see why the lanes are so screwed up and inconsistant.
You need to hire somebody who can opersate and maintain a lane oiling machine.

Comment Date: 11/29/2008 Name: staff
how can somebody kno that there is oil 3 feet in front of the head pin. There is usualy at least 10 feet of dry maybe buying that plastic ball and useing 2 fingers might not be the way to bowl artard

Are you kidding…They need to not hire a manager and buy a new oil machine. 2 weeks in a row the track on my ball looks like the lanes were oiled with a spray bottle and a rag.Unfortunately with all the oil within 3 feet of the head pin.Meanwhile 3 lanes down the teams were complaining their lanes resembled the sahara.
But what is the sense of complaining?
You’ll just get the same old deer in the headlights look and ignored…oh well it is what it is….

On Friday 03/07/08 I caught the so called “manager or secretary” of the Friday night league talking to one of the players in a very condescending manner. I think her name is Donna or Debbie, my husband knows her because it’s his league. The young man she was talking too is very nice and may take a little longer to play than others but that is no reason for her to talk down to him. I made a comment and she called me a b*tch. Since when is it ok for someone who is representing the bowling alley to curse at the customers?!! I have been going there for over 13 years and have never encountered anything like that. I know that this person also works in the kitchen area. I think she should be fired and if not then reprimanded. If nothing is done then it will just go to show that the bowling alley does not value their customers as they should.

Comment Date: 1/11/2008 Name: Anonymous
Let me tell you, it sure would be nice to go there and get 2 lanes oiled the same.
It really is rediculous that you have one lane oiled nicely and the other oiled up to 5 inches from the head pin.
Atleast bowling at Superbowl and Laurel the lanes are consistant whether it be wet or dry.
Perhaps some training is needed for the lane man.

Another season has ended and it is probably our last one at Bristol. I understand change is good but this place has no clue at what they are doing. My daughter bowled in the Junior program and nobody at the end of the year knew what was going on. When does season end, when is the banquet, are we going to Lake Compounce, can we buy extra tickets. I even gave them 3 weeks with no results. Time to move on – bowl in a 33 week program and no sense of order. Sorry to go because we loved Bristol.

I have been bowling at bristol for a year now
Ithink the the house has improved dramitically in the last few months. The new management is much better I cant comment about birthday parties because Ive never been to one.JOHN AT THE PRO SHOP IS AWESOME .Im no pro but i carry between a 215-220 average and with johns coaching Im still improving. As far as the conditions go i agree with dpr but i dont see the same breakdown as the righties .i would also like to add the bar food is good and the new sports bar is nice

Comment Date: 6/15/2007 Name: Bowl in Plainville
Im reaing some of the comments about birthday parties and it makes me laugh. At Laurel whenever the kids are ready we give them the lanes. But some people have to understand that they might not be the only party of the day. Sometime there is a party half hours apart and with clean up we need all the time we can get. It might seem like a rush but it isn’t

Comment Date: 6/7/2007 Name: dpr
btp is an ok house not bad not great i saw the other reviews and maybe im in the wrong house granted i just came came to the area 6 months ago bowled on different nights if you cant get the ball to finish or score well here you might as well smash your ball over your head the shot is not that hard the hardest thing here the lanes have a tendency to brake down quickly so the slew of crankers who dont know how to adjust run into trouble but hey thats just my opionion

Comment Date: 5/18/2007 Name: League Bowler 2
Ever since this place got bought out, customer service has all but dissapeared. There have been 3 different managers in the last three months, and they are worse than the ones before them. Btp used to be one of the best centers in the state, but it isn’t anymore. Thanks Bowl New England for ruining yet another center.

Great post…the majority of league bowlers want a $4.00 game, give you $3.00, AND expect change back. Nothing but whiners.

Comment Date: 5/3/2007 Name: Anonymous
Just another whiner…Why is it league bowlers do nothing but complain.
Either its the score tables or
The place looks dirty, the lanes aren’t oiled to their liking, snack bar food or beer is too expensive, nobody smooched my butt on my way in the door last week and the list goes on and on…
What the hell eer happened to going out and relaxing and having a good time without whatever business your going to having to live up to YOUR idividual expectations ?
Instead of jumping on here and whining like a baby why don’t you do the grown up thing and tell somebody in charge there and see what happens.
Oh I know why, because you would tae the chance of exposing yourself as a whiner anits much to easy to come to a site like this and bash them anonomously.
I bowled in a league there this year, I was none to happy with the patterns they laid out but thats why they call it “Sport bowling” I had to deal with it and adjust but I will be back next year because I’m not a quitter and I enjoy a good challenge.

Well the bowling season has finally come to a end and not soon enough. The last 2 or 3 months of the season have been hell. Too many changes and the staff has gone down hill fast. I never could get an answer about anything, Our score sheets were wrong a couple of times. Lane assignments where also wrong a few times too. The personality is gone too. You can say this will be our teams last season bowling at Bristol Ten Pin too bad our team has been there for 20 years. I would like to make a comment that you did do a good job remodeling – maybe the score tables are a little to close to the approach but for being less than a year old the place looks dirty already. Well thats about it – good bye BTP

Comment Date: 3/24/2007 Name: League Bowler
Never post comments on websites but I felt I needed to. First off I like to say the new owners did a good job renovating the center, it needed it badly. Thats the good news, the bad news is you would never know the center is les then a year old. I bowl on Sunday night and the last couple of months the place has been a pig sty. Granted birthday parties are a big source of income on weekends but there seems to be no organization like their used to be. We have bowled a couple of times and the staff wasn’t prepared for us coming in. It was like they didn’t even know it was 6pm and we exsisted. The other weeks when they had the lanes set aside (not that often) the place was a mess. As far as the organization goes it seems like every other week the lane assignments are wrong – a couple of times we bowled the same teams two wweks in a row. All in all the center the last couple of months has seemd to go down hill very quickly. This will be my last season bowling here. Too bad I have been at the center bowling for 15 years. Just not the same.

I just have to say that this place is awesome. Expecially John in the pro shop he was very helpful he did not only hook me up with a ball but he corrected my mistakes. It is wonderful and you can see me there almost every chance I can get.

I had the same experience when I went there to for a party. We were not able to get our lanes until exactly the time the party was going to start. Wouldn’t have been a problem but there where 20 lanes open at the time. We where rushed out as soon as the two hours where up. The lady at the front desk was very unprofessional and treated us like we where doing her a favor for being there. The pizza s*cked and we where charged for extra pitchers of soda. We only got soda when the pizza was served and not any when the kids where bowling. Would have brought in my own drink but told there is no outside food. The parties used to be more fun and the staff was more friendly – a bad experence that will not happen to me again there. I have had 5 parties there in the past and this one stunk. I will let the word get around too.

Comment Date: 2/24/2007 Name: Customer
I recently had a bowling birthday party at the new center and found the place was well kept but the personal attention you used to get is gone. I needed to bring something in special for my son due to his allergies and we where told no outside food. I understand they sell food there but this was an exception. Also the lanes where not available until exactly 4pm when our party started not a second before and we where rushed out right at 6pm. We spent almost $300.00 on the party and we felt like we where just a regular customer spending 25 cents on a video game. Just not the same – the personal touch is gone. All about the big buck and thats it. Won’t have another party there and will tell many more people not to either.

Hey everyone…. i just wanted to say that everyone is different and everyone has a right to say what they want…i think that the old bowling allie was great because i have had many great time there but it is 2006 and i think they did a great job at changing the way it looks….you make it how you want it to be….kids need a positive place to go to ….and this looks a lot better than how it looked before… as far as sports roc….its good for a change every now and them…but if the same people go, the vibe should stay the same…just becase its new ownership and a new look doesn’t mean that the people need to change as well… if there is something you would like change to be like it was in the past…voice how you feel…if enough people do maybe you can change something and it will make how you feel a lot better…everyone should give it a try before you knock it……so come on go get your friends and have fun ….thats all that really matters ….. 🙂

So who is this ha person? I can’t average 175 on the modified PBA conditions that cambridge had to offer? I don’t know who you are, but you shouldn’t be running your mouth about anything. Wow…so I averaged 198 in Cambridge and didn’t care about being on a last place team…so sue me. Tell me who you are before you criticize me.

Seriously…anonymously harassing someone on a message board…we’re cool. You’re probably some dumbass without anything better to do. Get a life. Another option rather than randomly running your mouth…if you’re so great, lets bowl against each other sometime. To be honest, I don’t particularly care about what I average in leagues…wow…leagues…big deal. {email address deleted}…send me an e-mail, tell me who this is…I don’t have anything against anyone that I’ve bowled with, but I do have a problem if someone is going to randomly show disrespect towards me. To the other person that I responded to, I apologize if I sounded offensive…it wasn’t meant to be harsh.

is this jesse kolezar or something of that nature. the one who couldn’t average 175 on the pba patterns for the cambridge credit league? Just wondering if it is, you shouldn’t be on here talking because you have no bowling skill what so ever. If it isn’t you then disregard.

To all of you people who complain about not being able to make the ball hook, LEARN HOW TO ADJUST! I bowled in a league down there about 3 years ago and shot 800 in the 5th week. Maybe because I’m actually a skilled bowler and know how to deal with carrydown? I still go on tuesday and thursdays once in a while and usually score quite well. So rather than blaming only the conditions, look at yourselves and learn how to make adjustments. Conditions aren’t always perfect…in fact, they’re usually far from it. If there is no excessive backend, play straighter. Changing conditions are a part of the game regardless of what you bowl on PBA conditions or not. I am a PBA member and have done a few regionals in my time. Conditions change pretty fast…the shot doesn’t stay fresh for long at all. Overall, BTP is not a bad bowling center at all and 1.69 a game isn’t too much to pay by any means.

Comment Date: 12/24/2005 Name: John Phillip
This is a reply to ‘someone who is concerned about the game’… Regardless of your expertise, the whole idea of bowling is to be able to find a dry area on the lane past 40’ so the ball can encounter friction and create hook (look at any PBA sanctioned pattern!). The conditions I have seen at Bristol do not allow for any lane friction, with conditioner applied to the pin deck and from board 0 to 0. I don’t bowl to boast about average, but for enjoyment, and after 3 years of bowling at Bristol 3X per week, it is no longer enjoyable. And when you bowl 50+ games per week, paying $3.75 per game is insane. My bowling $$ go to Waterbury and Plantsville these days, where they realize that some like to bowl a lot without having to take out a second mortgage. BNE has ruined a very nice center, but I imagine the kiddies and once-a-year bowlers don’t care!

Comment Date: 12/15/2005 Name: someone who is conserned about the game
This comment is for John Phillip. What are you calling the so called (advanced level bowler)? The last time I checked the (advanced level bowler) could adjust to different lane conditions so don’t blame the house for your lack of bowling skill. Sounds to me like the all too common case of people thinking they are better than they really are. I don’t think it has anything to do with the center you bowl at if you are good enough you can bowl anywhere. Just let me ask you this – what is your composite average for all your leagues?

Comment Date: 11/12/2005 Name: Anonymous
Thanks BNE for making this place even more s##ky.

Comment Date: 11/7/2005 Name: John Phillip
Since the new owners have taken over, the ‘Bowl your head off’ $8 for 2 hours specials are gone… and so are the customers. Last Thursday night, the oil was applied very heavy for 60′ and side to side. It was virtually impossible to find any friction on the back end. The new owners need to determine whether they want to alienate the crop of advanced level bowlers who refuse to pay $3 – $4 per game on ‘oil slick’ conditions!

Concerts are gone, fun is gone, we now have a new owner that is willing to take the fun out of Bristol. Why bowl ten pin lanes? Don’t waste your time because there is nothing to do anymore. The Sports Rock cafe now should be called Lame Rock. Hey BNE stay in VT. where you live and leave us alone.

Just finished a mini-season child/adult league with my son and signed up for the next season. We have a great time each week, it gives us something to look forward to doing together. I can’t believe how much he improved in just 4 months! He also gets a kick out of looking up his scores on their Facebook site, thinks its cool to see his name on the Internet.

I had my son’s 8th birthday party at Sky Top Lanes this past weekend. It worked out so well! He and the other kids had a great time and I actually got to enjoy watching him enjoy his party because it was so organized. Everyone was really nice and he got a pin for his friends to sign. I’ll be scheduling my younger son’s party soon for March.

We took a school group to sky top lanes. We were not told that we should rotate lanes back and forth with our two lanes. We could not understand what was going on, and thought the computer was malfunctioning. We approached the desk, and the woman came over (manager). We asked for it to be corrected, and she blamed us for the problem. She implied and said outright that as teachers we should have been able to figure it out sooner. She did this all in front of the students in a very negative attitude. One teacher asked to see her in private, as to not discuss it in such a way in front of our students. She took offense to this request, not wanting to discuss it further. She walked away saying angrily and with sarcasm that the customer is always right. She refused to let us restart the game without a charge. We bowled the rest of the game, promptly went up to check out, and I said we would never come back due to her attitude and the fact that she had spoken inappropriately in front of the students. She claimed the first teacher had an attitude, and that we were in the wrong. I suggested that in this economy it was not good business practice to offend clients, who indeed had planned to come on a weekly basis. She did not care, refused our money, and told us to never come back again. The experience was disturbing to our students who could not understand why she had been so rude. We will take our business elsewhere from now on and spread the word of our poor experience.

I love Sky Top, bowl there 1 night a week all year and take the family often! New automatic scorers are great for those who don’t know how to keep score. Kids love the snack bar and arcade as much as the bowling. Makes for a great family outing.

My favorite bowling alley! You can tell the owners love the game and will gladly help you out. The decor is dated, but they keep the lanes well… who cares if the signs look like they’re from the 60s, that’s what you expect at a bowling alley! The new automatic scoring and LCD screens recently installed make the game even better. Thought I’d miss the old scoring, but it’s a welcomed change. Overall, it’s a great place to grab a cheap bite to eat, some drinks and hang out with friends.

It’s funny how some can be so negative just because some dont like to keep their own score and such! People today are spoiled by the electronic generation.. Keeping score keeps your mind short and perhaps those who dont want to, dont even balance their own checkbooks! The staff there is totally Awesome, and as far as rude, I have been bowling there since I was still breastfeeding and have yet to see a single rude staff member there!!
Rock on Skytop!!!

1st , if any of us were pro bowlers , we would not be bowling @ skytop, thomaston, bradley or any of the other “local” allys.and didnt we all start somewhere.although it is somewhat old school , that is part of the ambeance of the place..write your own score…its easy , so learn.dont be so quick to judge the owners or staff, they put more effort than you could ever imagine, always friendly, willing to go out of the way to help someone.because there is not electronic scoring , or some cute woman does not come and take your alcohol/food order , because the lanes are wood, not synthetic ,different oil patterns than ur used to…all part of learning to be an adaptive bowler..if you dont like it go elsewhere and quit complaining, im sure there is a whole ally of you professional bowlers that has nothing but the best of everything somewhere waiting to take you in , go in peace and find them. just wondering how many of you complainers dont know what it was like to have lived without a microwave or dvd player.

I’ve been bowling at sky top lanes for 16 year. the staff is very friendly and the brothers would do anything to keep there customers coming back. so what if they have wooden lanes and out dated equipment. the lanes are original and people are still able to hit game in the high 200 and occasionally 300. so what if there isn’t an automated scoring machine, it’s not that hard to keep the score yourself.

The problem is they have not invested a single penny into the place in over 20 years. They are just spending enough to keep it afloat. Wood lanes, manual scoring, the place is a relic. I am sure there are people that enjoy bowing on wood and keeping their own score, but come on, stop putting the profit into your pockets and put some back into business. Based on what I see, I agree, this place is going to close down soon, what else can you make of it ?

Sky Top is ok if you want really low scores due to the lack of maintenance, like they only oil the lanes about 4 times a week, it takes them 5 days to update the weekly league averages, they have rude staff, and so on.

Comment Date: 2/12/2009 Name: Kris
Sky top lanes is a great place to bowl with an old time feel to it. Scoring the game yourself is part of the game. Just because you don’t understand how and they dont have electronic screens doesnt make it no good. Go any weeknight you’ll see the lanes are full. There is a league everynight mon-fri and everyone is having a great time. You will find the owners there watching and willing to give you tips to improve your game. Open your eyes just cause it doesnt have neon lights and automatic screening doesnt mean its going under.

The place is old and has not been updated since it was first built. The owners pocket all the profits and put nothing back into the center. Its like bowling in the 60’s. If you want to drink and bowl, then go there and have a good time, if you are serious bowler, then please go somewhere else.

When you are “hanging out” are you spending money ? Oh, thats right, you buy one soda with two straws or one beer and sip it all night. Even at $50 per drink, the place will not stay open much longer. Talk to the brothers, I believe only one of them wants to stay in the business. They took every dime they could out of the business and put nothing back into it. They deserve to go out of business.

Sorry but your wrong – Sky Top has never been remodeled (except for masking units), still has old wood lanes and extremely old ball returns, and no automatic scoring. That is the reason the place has lost business, not because of the no smoking ban. Had money been put into the center they would be doing fine.

To answer the question “what changed at sky top”
Since the CT “no smoking law went into affect. the owner lost about half of his business.
Only half of the lanes were being used. So like any business they looked for options on how to survive. The owners decided to lease out the other half of the lanes that wen’t being used and renovated them into to a health club (Energy Fitness). If anybody thinks skytop is going under . They are crazy. I noticed that they are doing a very brisk business. Sky Top will be around for a very long time.

SkyTop lanes is a very fun and good place to bowl. The people are very nice and the actual bowling there is inexpensive for the most part. It is a fun place to bowl.

Yes Sky Top Lanes is wooden lanes, and it’s not as updated as other lanes but it’s a great bowling alley. The staff is friendly & helpful, and the place is kept clean. There are only 20 lanes now instead of 40 becuz there wasn’t much business coming in. So to everyone that is complaining about that now too bad you didnt take the time out to go before. I heard they are getting electronic scoring but thats probably about as updated as they will get. Some of us still love wooden lanes. Yeah sometimes the ball doesn’t react the way you want it to but a good bowler knows how to fix the problem. There is an arcade now. The place is great, and it’s got the oldschool feel to it.

Another bowling center that will not be around in 5 years. They have not updated the place since it was originally built and now they took away half the lanes. Writing on the wall, we are closing soon. If you bowl there, you better find another place soon !

Every once in a while the lanes are good for my ball. But i’m yet to get a reactive ball and maybe i’ll do alot better. Most of the time the lanes are medium to heavy oil. The price did go up but not too much. Other than that Sky Top’s is good.

I think that the lanes are pretty good there. I bowl in two leagues there and I am doing good for the age of 14.

Sky Top Lanes is one of the best bowling alleys that I have ever been to. It’s a great place to go on a Friday night when you want to go out with your friends. Everyone I know always makes their plans at Sky Top Lanes. Just check it out for yourself…you’ll like it!

I go to Sky Top Lanes every Friday night. I think I have the most fun there than I have all week. All the people there are really nice and will help you out in any way you need it. The food is awesome, when you go, try the wingdings and popcorn chicken!! The alley is really clean. The bowling ball weights are easy to find, and I don’t have any problem putting my feet into the previously used shoes, I know they are safe! If you are looking to get away from home and/or want a night of fun, then head on over to Sky Top Lanes!
