This is a great bowling alley with lots of potential, but………the smoking is awful. You might get more patrons if the smoking was banned. Me and my husband brought our kids, who had a great time, but we had to strip off our clothes as soon as we got home, due to smelling so bad.

Like this place, but not the smoking..

It is a fun place but don’t like the smell of smoke. That is probably one of the most diappointing aspects to this place. The food seem to take a long time to get especially when there were so few people in the bowling alley.

I have been bowling there since I was a toddler just about and just got back from the lanes. I think they are one of the best places in the area to bowl. The family that owns the lanes are good people and they keep the facility very nice. It is a great family place even if you some don’t bowl they have an arcade a grill and bar. They even have a pro-shop. In my opinion Red Bird Lanes is one of the best bowling alleys for the family.

I bowled here since I was a kid. Now I bring my daughter there. Never once have there been any incidents of racisim towards my family or any others. I worked there as well for a good amount of time. If you don’t like smoke them you shouldn’t go however I don’t think it’s as bad as people say. It is a great family place and I’ll continue to go there. We’ll be there this weekend actually. 🙂

I am 15 years old and I started bowling there with bumpers and I was in a league every season for close to 8 years. I had to stop due to some outside issues, but I started going there again a year later with a church league and am still going there. I love this bowling alley so much! The Catheys make me feel like family and so do others there. My grandparents, dad, aunt, and uncle lived in Duncanville and I love all the friendly encounters when we go to bowl. I love this place so much and so does my boyfriend. We had our first date here and it was great. A little bit of smoke but not so much that it pushes you out the door. I love this place!

I have been bowling at Red Bird for almost 3 years now and i love it.I have bowled all over the metroplex but i would rather bowl at Red Bird.I have never seen any kind of race issues and the Cathey’s are great people. Mr’s Cathey does so much for the youth bowler’s and for bowling in general. For all the people who say that it is smokey there are over doing it a little bit. They have plenty of fan’s and the only time it is smokey is when there is a league or travel league going on then it is still not bad. It is a great place for all ages and the food & prices are the best around.

I would go there,,,but just the thought of the smell as soon as you open the door makes me turn around….please ban smoking in there.

As a person of color I felt fine. Jeff was very helpful and i’ve never felt anything but respect and appreciation from the employees there. I actually discovered this place because of how rude the black employees where to us (a group of black people) at the other bowling option in DeSoto!

I love this bowling alley. I’m sixteen and currently work there. I feel at home when i work. I love the Cathey’s. Anyone who has put a bad comment on here is wrong. Yes it smells heavily like smoke but that is ok. THEY ARE NOT RACIST!!!!!!!! And their food is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve grown up at Red Bird and I love it there. Yes, it is smokey, but if it was a smoke-free envrionment many patrons would not come. The people and the quality of work there is amazing, and it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been away, when you walk in you feel like family. Great place.

I grew up in bowling at Red Bird Lanes. I have met the Cathey’s and they are indeed great people and treat you like family. It might be a smoke infested establishment now, but the people who goes there are still my friends, neighbors and family. My sister even worked there as a playroom babysitter back in her high school days. Great memories from this place. Big thanks to Lois and Jeff Cathey.

horrible smoke, dirty, needs alot of upgrades. It has been there would think the owners could afford to do something!!

We, meaning my husband and three kids dont usually go bowling unless it is spur of the moment. We went about three weeks ago around 6:30pm and at first we thought nothing of it til we ordered our food and went to our lane. The attendant wasnt very attentive and had a little bit of an attitude. The bumpers had to be manually put up which was annoying over time and our food took over 45 mins to get and not to mention it was hard to breathe from all of the smoke filled air, ugh! I am not putting this place down but if it improved on speeding up the food orders, banning the smoking, trained their attedants better it might not be such a bad place, the only thing I give thumbs up to is how good the food tasted when we finally got it….

Ive been bowling here since I was in junior high, now Im 26. The Catheys have always been great people and they treat you like family. The great thing is they keep the house clean and fun, unlike thier cross town amf house. Their prices are reasonable, especially their bar!

very very smokey environment.

Comment Date: 2/25/2007 Name: Arturo
Bad and dirty environment. I saw underage teenagers drinking beer. Not the best place for family fun. Food orders take more than 20 minutes. Lane maintenance is poor. Cops in-and-out dealing with bad behaved teenagers. Not recommended

I am 32,born and raised in this center and have been bowling here since i was 4. My grandparents, uncles, parents all bowled here after Kiest Bowl closed. I taught my wife how to bowl here and now my son. This is one of the best family oriented friendly places in Duncanville. This center has remained reasonable in prices and has always made a effort to do as much it can for the community. Being such a small business they have done a great job keeping the lanes and house updated. Their prices put the corporate bowling centers like AMF to shame. The Catheys have always showed great hospitality towards there guest and they treat everyone like family. If they don’t know your name when you come in, they make it an effort to get acquainted and sign you up to become part of there bowling family. I enjoy bowling in league, not only just for the sport of it but for the oppurtunity of meeting all the people and friends that i have met over the last 28yrs.THANKS RED BIRD LANES FOR BEING AN IMPORTANT PART OF MY LIFE!

I recently visited Red Bird after a long absence and the upgrades were obvious. It was always a fun place and great for the family. The upgrades make it even better. These people are always meking every effort to make Red Bird a great place for serious bowlers or just the family that is out to have fun.

I’ve been going here since I was a child. The lanes and the whole venue has been upgraded, I belive it’s a very nice place.

I bowl at Red Bird occassionally. Everytime I visit, I come home smelling like I’ve spent an evening in a smoking lounge. It’s pretty bad.

As a regular bowler and a league bowler, I see no racial or any other kind of discrimination occurring.Maybe it is there but i have not experienced any.Overall I believe the alley is a 8 out of 10.The only thing I want to see chaaged is the way lanes are assigned when there are league bowlers and regualrs put next to each other

The lanes at this center have been greatly upgraded and the price is cool if you are a league bowler. This house gives off the feeling of being unfriendly to people of color.
