No that Laspina is in Queens, he’ll probably ruin bowling there the way he did in Brooklyn! Ave M Bowl (30) Original Gil Hodges (48) Rainbow (56) and “new” Hodges (16)..that’s 150 lanes gone due to this guy…and as soon as the Maple Lanes deal goes thru (to Fairmont Funding), we’ll lose another 48! This will leave only 3 legitimate houses in Brooklyn! WATCH OUT QUEENS, YOU’RE NEXT!!

Honestly….the guy that deals with you to get you a lane….he is such a pig…the one that works there on a sunday night
our balls kept getting stuck …..and he was such a moron…….was not helpful at all………needs a friendlier staff

i like jibs, the way it looks, their renovations are awesome. but the one thing i hate is the lane conditions… THEY NEVER HAVE OIL!! EVERRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!! i dont bowl in any leagues because i dont have the time, but when i did used to bowl i avged 220. so i think i know what im talking about when i say there is no oil. im not a huge fan of synthetic since the change, but one thing that bothers me the most is that they never OIL. never ever fornever ever. on fresh oil you can hit the pocket all the time, but once their lanes are dry as a brick, say good bye to any 1-3 pocket shots and say hello to brooklyn. i wouldnt mind paying a little extra for fresh oiled lanes. i would even give the guy 10 or even 15 bucks to oil a pair of lanes up, but cmon… even though the games are nice and cheap. you get what you pay for and 2.50$ games aren’t cutting it with no oil =]. i wouldnt mind paying 3.00 or even 3.50$ a game for a pair of fresh oiled lanes =]. other than that, i love jibs and have been bowling there for the last 17 years.

I think its a very OK place to play bowling.Your lane will probably get stuck a few times/or your ball might get stuck.(it depends on you.)My ball got stuck a few times, but I will still play bowling there!

I’m bowling in the city championships at Jib this weekend. Heard it’s (thankfully) not on a house shot but something a little tougher

All I can say is, what a change! Wonderful job here; now if they get around to replacing the bathrooms (my fingers are crossed that it happens really soon) this will be simply a perfect place to bowl whether you are a casual fan or a league bowler.

Normally we simply let the public have their say on sites like these, but we know who inked the last comment and for the record, we simply put this person in their place in a much more respectful manner than we have been treated.
We don’t need customer service advice from someone who simply delivers never ending criticism in a less than tactful manner. We wish this person well, but we give courtesy and expect it in return. When someone like this receives a bit of their own medicine they write comments like the preceding one. But in my years in this business I know that the bowlers can tell the difference between a legitimate complain and a chronic complainer. Draw your own conclusion….but keep bowling…

I guess it is great that the new owners have improved the bowling alley, now they should try and improve their attitudes. Not used to being treated so poorly hope they aquire some people skills soon.

NOW THAT’S MORE LIKE IT! Remember the very old JIB LANES 21 years ago (like I do remember) that the television screens were very bad & the lanes were in horrible shape? Oh yeah, the busted balls that looked like Fred Flintstone’s from Bedrock? The bowling alleys are in “perfect shape”. The television monitors are now “replaced” with digital monitors along with this radar ball speed so that a person can figure out the throwing speed & thanks to Brunswick (replaced with the old AMF) ball return section lane, the lanes are now in professional condition & likewise, they all have new owners instead with old ones so they can give back the friendly instead of being harassed at. Now more than ever, JIB Lanes is more friendly than ever & I did bring my girfriend to JIB Lanes & I did beat her score by alot. And we kissed each other on lane 19 because we love the bowling alley & I am so happy that she wanted me to come back to JIB. Thanks for bringing back to the excitement & the new owners over there, I cannot wait to come back again like it was 21 years ago. Out with the old, in with the new. THANK YOU JIB LANES for everything.

Went tonight to practice. Nice looking house, the renovations look really good, and the synthetic lanes are great. The approach and the lane had about the same amount of oil on it, but I guess I can’t expect much on a Sunday Night.
The asian lady at the desk was not very personable, but I would definately go back on a weekday to throw a few games, or tournaments if they ever have them. LaSpina is doing a great job

Ron Spears should learn facts before venting. He can be no more wrong then he is. You can tell by his words where he is going with them. If a contract is signed with one management and a new management takes over, the new management does not have to accept old contracts, learn law Ron. If the new management offered you a contract, no matter who else came in, management must honor your contract. He was being very nice to you offering a discounted night. Calling the league that came in Ball Busters and the lanes Jive instead of Jib tells what kind of person you really are. A simple trouble maker.

The place is starting to look much cleaner and nicer. I heard new lanes are coming soon & there painting the insides now

JIB Lanes management has started out with a bang! After we delayed our league (Friends & Family evicted from Van Wyck), we arrived tonight,Tuesday Sept 9th to start our season. Lo and behold, there is a 36 team league there also to bowl(Ball and Chain or Ball busters or something displaced from Woodhaven). Since we bowled our Summer league a JIB we wrongly assumed bowling the winter would be a forgone conclusion, and we were given some assurances that that would be the case. This other league had a deal with Cozy Bowl but reneged when JIB took on a Woodhaven flavor. I can only believe that owners or management at JIB or is it JIVE lanes invited this league knowing we were due to bowl and there was not room for both leagues, they could fill the house so we got shafted. They offered us another night at less money, but what if a BIGGER league showed on that night… {deleted} We had a deal! Put that in the news next to the renovation stories.

Its official! Labor day was the 1st day of the new management. On Tuesday the 2nd, they had a little meet and greet for some league bowlers complete with free food and drinks and best of all FREE BOWLING!!! guess it was a way to entice bowlers to join the leagues. It really worked, cause the tuesday league that starts next week is gonna have over 30 teams!!! Word is that they’ve got a new pro shop guy coming in as well, and they’re promising that this new guy will ACTUALLY be there! I CANT WAIT!!! finally a REAL bowling alley in Queens!!!

Comment Date: 8/24/2008 Name: Steven M.
It’s official. The new owners take over September 1st. It’s John LaSpina. He plans to fully renovate & bring the place back to life. Let’s all try to support this alley & keep it open for decades to come. Queens needs a good alley, & this will be the place to bowl.

i heard the samething too about a new owner for jib lanes. As of sept 1, 2008. The new owner is supose to make new improvements like new score machines and some other equipment. So jib is suppose to have a major overhaul from what i heard.

I have heard that this center has been sold. I know the new owner. There will be major improvements on the way from what I have been told.

When I bowled here, I wanted the far lane where hardly anyone is bowling. The staff assigned me next to the rest of the people who are bowling and told me that they could give me the far lane. The sad part to it is that there were people who I assumed must be on the team practicing in that area and yet me I can’t even get a lane that is away from the people. It can be hard practicing your game when there are people bowling in the same area as you do. This can lead to distraction. I also noticed that the floors were very slippery. There vending machines need improvement. They ate my quarter.

Comment Date: 6/30/2008 Name: sw
The lanes are hit or miss, generally the ones just used by leagues are very well oiled. The pinsetters do act up sometimes, but you can ask for a lane change. The staff is friendly and can meet requests.
The beer here is cheap, $8.50 for a pitcher. The chicken tenders are a definite plus. The games are dirt cheap with the membership card. If you want to stay in Queens, this is the place to bowl at.

Comment Date: 6/2/2008 Name: anon
well i read most of your comments and i agree that bowling has faded a bit but just think about how much it costs to keep a place like jibs to be open? i mean if its not always packed then obviously they’re not going to make any repairs or upgrades unless they pull it out of their own pockets and this is a bowling business, not one of the most popular hobbies out there. ive been to many bowling alleys in the local area and yes gibs is a bit run down, but what about whitestone?! its about 25-30 bucks for someone who doesn’t have shoes and their own ball.

Comment Date: 5/31/2008 Name: JAC25
You people are all crazy. JIB is perfectly fine. Lanes are fine, people are fine, food is fine. It’s a bowling alley for Christ’s sake not a 5 star hotel.

Comment Date: 5/27/2008 Name: sjm1971
Yes, I agree that conditions could be better. There have been two score monitors out all season long that the staff is doing nothing about. but let’s face it people. With Van Wyck & Woodhaven both gone now, places to bowl are getting more scarce. I hope this place stays open.

Comment Date: 5/16/2008 Name: Bowler
I dont think its that bad actually. the only people who mess up the place with gabage is yourself and they clean up after u leave. the staff is nice but hec, everyone has a bad day. plus of course the pins get dirty, dont expect them to buy new pins just for you. the duct tape is only temperarily. the lanes do not have splinters unless you create them yourselves

Comment Date: 4/11/2008 Name: Rein
JIB Lanes is a very bad bowling alley & what happend is that the lanes are mostly cracked & split wide open. I do remember that the duct tape is in the ball return section on lane 23 & when I checked the surface of the lane pattern, all you see is chipped wood & it is “not” a safe place to roll your ball (urethane, rubber or plastic) down the alley for a strike & a spare shot. And I remember this place for 20 years since my classmates from school had bowled over there & right after the former Rosedale Lanes usually renamed County Line Lanes in Rosedale, NY (used to be my public school over there & still is) and now that it is no longer in site. And you see the TV monitor on top of the lanes are not upgrading because the screens are about to fade away so that is the reason why that JIB Lanes are simply “too lazy” to fit it. Either the professional bowlers or amatuers (like me) can make an inquiry to AMF & tell them to “fix the whole thing right away or there will be a major shutdown because alot of bowlers are complaining about the messed-up alley here in Queens, NY & somebody needs to step up right away. And I will address to the people over there that the prices are okay at $3.50 & it stayed the same since 1988 & you can continue with the place over there, but alot of bowlers will not like the way the bowling alley looks like. And if you see a professional bowler over there, please say hello to them okay? Oh, by the way… the problem on lane 23, the bowling pin is laying on the floor pattern & I told the person at the end of the game to “please remove that pin out of the lane because that is not the way to leave it there on the floor just in case if somebody is using the lane, thank you.” And I may not come back ever again due to problems at JIB Lanes & that is it.

Comment Date: 3/24/2008 Name: Laz
It’s hard to fathom why anyone can defend this downright creepy establishment. My personal idea of hell: Bowling four games at JIB, then being forced to eat at the coffee shop. There is duct tape in the ball returns, dust in the gutters, pins so scuffed by balls they look brown. No excuse, no excuse, NO EXCUSE.

Comment Date: 3/16/2008 Name: ET1
Average… It’s not bad or good…
You can bowl for $2.25 per game (Mon-Thur), if you buy the membership card annually ($10.00). $3.75 Fri-Sun nights with card.
The lanes are okay. I’ve bowled some really good games, and some not so good games there. You jut have to adjust. If the lanes are scorched, then I pack it in after one game.
The staff is nice, maybe because I know them all, from bowling there many years. I never see the staff doing anything that I would consider rude. If they were rude to you, maybe you were rude first. Not a great excuse but whatever. Try being nice and perhaps you’ll get a nicer response.
People will always complain about the machinery and lanes. Maybe you got a bad pair of lanes. Maybe they didn’t oil the lanes that day.
Most bowling alleys will look run down, unless they just opened up or something. And usually that is because the patrons abuse the equipment. How many times do you see idiotic people throw more than one ball down the lane at the same time, and hit the ball return… or throw 10 balls down a lane that is turned off… these acts breaks the pinsetters, then people complain about the pinsetters being broken…
Aside from the price I listed here, the same can be said about pretty much any bowling alley.
Whatever the case, we still have fun at JIB Lanes.

Comment Date: 3/15/2008 Name: Team Lazurite
Amzingly this year Jib Lanes actually laid oil this year for my league. The pattern is actaully a great scoring pattern.
But I do agree about the staff. They aren’t that bright when it comes to assigning lanes to OPEN bowlers when there is league bowling.
We pay $25 every week and they assign lanes to people who have NO IDEA of lane courtesy at all..

Comment Date: 2/25/2008 Name: Robert
I hate to agree: JIB is the biggest dump of all area bowling establishments. Garbage in the gutters (literally); lanes that are refinished with the frequency of presidential elections; rude, uncaring employees. It’s a great location and there’s more than enough lanes – how did they ruin a good thing?

Comment Date: 12/11/2007 Name: nicole
jibs lanes s*cks, and so do their staff. really bad work performce. it this one skinny black guy that works there, everytime he past me he alway manage to touch my butt, jibs lanes is like one of the worst places to bowl.

Its pretty good to be honest. They have a cool crowd, the staff is relatively friendly, and the lanes are okay. The price is right

whoever thinks wax goes on lanes, they better see a doctor.wax is a illegal substance.wax ruins lane machines, turns down high scores.i’ve worked in the business 30 put wax on my lanes,i’ll sue you & put you or whoever it is,in front of judge judy.i’m not joking.these lane machines costs as much as a new want wax,put a pair of lanes in your back yard,&wax; them as much as you like.thank god,you dont work for anyone.there’ll be bowlers, wanting your head in an alligators’ mouth.

lanes are crappy, but not an excuse for bad bowling. i still bowl some of my best games there, and its cheap to bowl there. i pay like, $2 a game, its great.

Comment Date: 7/17/2007 Name: Anonymous
To be honest these lanes really s*cked….They were so dry that every time i threw my ball it went to the left gutter (same with my friend) i mean do they even oil the dam lanes? It was like bowling in regular wood, i will NEVER go there again

it’s alright…i guess. It was better when i played bumpers. When i played without bumpers, the ball kept on going into the gutter. And we usually get another turn. It’s really funny but sort of unfair.

I have been bowling here for the last few years. I have not seen 1 dollar spent on improving the lanes or machine. I was told by another union member it because local 3 might not renew their lease so Jibs might be out on the street. I really wish the lanes would be redone!!!

Comment Date: 11/13/2005 Name: league bowler
Jib Lanes is a good place to bowl and their prices are reasonable – AMF prices are crazy.

Comment Date: 10/27/2005 Name: One Time Jib Bowler
JIBS is the most horrible place I ever bowled at. I never thought a bowling alley can be so bad. The lanes are like wood floors that have 1 layer of wax. This place seems like it is going to be closing down very soon if it does not do any major renovation. I will not go back to jib lanes unless they reconstruct their lanes.

Comment Date: 2/27/2005 Name: Paul
Lanes are spotty and need to be redone. Wish there were tv’s to watch on the floor during big sport games but there are none. Pinsetters drop pins all the time, ball gets beat up on the return and on the lane. Better off going elsewhere.

Comment Date: 2/22/2005 Name: League Bowler
This place once was the cream of the crop, now it’s the dumps. Lanes need MAJOR overhaul. Pinsetters are the pits. Do not play by the hour cause the ball will get stuck and when you complain they tell you to wipe the ball down. I am now moving to Long Island to bowl, better lanes. Also Jibs should be charging 2-3 to bowl on these bad lanes.

Comment Date: 2/6/2005 Name: customer
My goodness what a horrible set of lanes. Pinsetters need a major overhaul. It doesn’t pay to pay by the hour when you wait almost 5 minutes to respond each time the pinsetters screw up. Also, my ball comes back with black patches.
People at the desk are okay. I’d rather drive out to the Island to find better maintained lanes.
Syosset Lanes, Garden City, etc.
