for all of you that thought the reason post bowling closed was because amf didn’t want to deal with it any more, i would like to clarify a few things. my father wanted to retire and my brother and i had entered into other careers. post bowling still would be operating today if we had chose to run it.

Sorry to disappoint you, Jake, but Mary O’brien does exist and has never worked at the lanes. She is a bowler who finds White Plains Bowl to be a very unwelcoming place with high prices and surly customers and surly bowlers abounding at the lanes. Management takes no interest in sorting things out. While there have been some improvements in certain areas, other areas could us management’s input. I used to bowl there, but no more. Take my business and my league play elsewhere. If you wish to contact me, I can be reached at {Sorry, no personal email addresses. (But it did look legitimate and belonging to Mary O Brien!) B2U Staff}
Have a nice day.

I’m surprised with all the negative comments. When I read all the negative comments, I feel like I should go there to see whether is it that bad. A few days ago, I went to practice at AMF White Plains and I am highly satisfied with everything.
First of all, PEACE. The alley is separated into 2 floors . Lower floor will be full of kids. But if you are serious bowler like me, you will be placed on the upper floor. I really like this policy because it gives me a real peace for practice with no kids running around.
Secondly, IDEAL FOR PRACTICE. The lanes are not too easy like the other places and the margin of errors are not very high. If you miss your target, you are less likely to hit the pocket. In some places, you miss by 5 boards and you still hit the pocket. I really like the difficulty of the lanes here because it does not spoil me with high score that much. So if I start not to hit the pocket, I know there is something wrong with myself whereas it is hard to tell in other centers that put down easy shot.
Thirdly, STAFF – The staff are very helpful and willing to help me find things I’m looking for. I don’t know why there are so much negative complaints about staff here.

Comment Date: 12/19/2011 Name: Andy G
Very disappointed with recent 9 yr old birthday party. Was told that lanes would provide supervision, but assigned one person for 20 kids, who kept disappearing and basically only brought water ($25 price did not include any drinks during bowling). Food portions were very small with most kids asking for more (two chicken nuggets and a few fries). Would not recommend.

The place is a mess! Carpets are filthy. There are broken seats on the settees and the missing seats have been replaced by ordinary chairs. The linoleum is coming up and the bowling areas are sticky. The staff is rude and they have absolutely no knowledge about any leagues, times, summer leagues, etc. plus they are all too busy on their cell phones. The worst factor is that the lanes continually break down and it’s usually the same pair each week. Plus, the electronic score keepers never work either. Actually, nothing in White Plains Bowl works and you can never find management. They are less than friendly especially to their league bowlers.

Comment Date: 3/7/2011 Name: This Place S*cks!!
It was a Tuesday night and I called the bowling alley at 10:45PM to make sure I could still get a lane. I asked if they were still giving out lanes before I made my way over there. The kid on the phone said he didn’t know but asked if I could hold to find out for me. I held on the phone for 2 minutes and then was told that yes they are still open and giving out lanes. I said ok I’m heading over there now. I went with 3 of my friends, arriving about 10 minutes later. The employees at the front counter were just talking, laughing, and checking their cell phones. They didn’t even ask if we needed help or tried to serve us. I finally said ‘Can we please get some help over here?’ They then responded by saying that they were no longer giving out lanes. Now I was pissed off! I said excuse me but I just called no more than 10 minutes ago to find out and I was put on hold and then told that yes you are still open and giving out lanes. The unhelpful employee at the counter then said he would ask his ‘manager’. He picked up the phone and 30 seconds later said ‘no sorry we can’t give you a lane because it is going to take an hour and a half for your group of 4 to bowl just one game.’ I begged just for one game and we surely wouldn’t take an hour and a half to bowl just one game. They would not give in! I started to walk away and the employees continued to get back on their cell phones. I will never again attempt to go bowling here! I will look elsewhere, even though it will be a farther drive. It should be worth it though, as I will not be denied or walk into a business to see all the employees laughing away or using their phones. I doubt that this place will be able to last much longer. With time they will surely go out of business, guaranteed!

I love this place but the blond women at counter is soooooo nasty, I never met someone with such a poor attitude. She’s not the sharpest knife either.

Wow, with all these negative comments I am pretty sure that I will never visit this center. For almost every bad post, there is someone that refutes it but they do it in such a way that makes me think they are just mad employees or managers. That’s not an experience I want. Thanks for the input

bowled there for high school- as in varsity high school…can’t you read what he wrote? Sectionals generally run beginning of February. Get a clue.

Comment Date: 1/16/2010 Name: Matt
i love bowling, but had a terrible experience here, first off the place is disco club EVEN DURING THE DAY, if you are trying to work on your game or bowl even remotely competitive, then take your business elsewhere, on numerous occasions the staff has been rude and unhelpful, the prices are $7.50 a game which is more then double then where i usually bowl, and the prices are not posted (i wouldn’t post my prices either if I was charging that much) luckily i had my own shoes so i didn’t have to spend what would have probably been ten bucks to rent shoes. The lanes aren’t even good, way to oiley and synthetic. so all and all a terrible experience i am never going back and i advise you and your friends not too either, oh by the way you will have to wait an hour or more before you can take part in this miserable experience

Comment Date: 2/14/2009 Name: Harry
Nice, modern facilities, but everything is way overpriced. Despite this, it is way too crowded almost all the time with a big wait and a lot of loud, obnoxious teenagers make the experience less pleasant.

If you bowled at W. Plains during the Empire Games in March, why did it take so long for you to respond ? It just so happens that W.P. Bowl received State-wide compliments about the Games. If you’re a house bowler who sometimes doesn’t like having the high school bowlers there, then just say it !!!! Busy centers get dirty. FYI—unless you’re a house bowler you wouldn’t know (or care) what the Prime Time rate is, so at least be honest.

Comment Date: 2/10/2009 Name: jg
i bowled here in high school for states last march and this place was so filthy there was popcorn all over the approaches this place is a disgrace. i wouldn’t pay 2 dollars a game let alone 7 dollars a game to bowl at this house

WP Bowl is the worst place to bowl in all of Westchester. I’ve never been there when it wasn’t full of little ratty ghetto kids just hanging around taking up space. Not to mention the people who work there are complete morons – maybe AMF should actually train them in customer service instead of how to stand behind the counter and text their friends. What a waste of money, too; $7.50 per game? Seriously? Not worth it one bit. I’d sooner drive up to JV lanes where its less crowded, the staff are knowledgeable and the lanes are clean. WP bowl gets an F!

I know Dee for a long time and i dont think she would do something like that(i dont go there anymore so i cant say 100%) but i highly doubt she would do that… as far as not being league friendly it hasent been like that for a long long time and im going back atleast 7-9 year which was the last time i bowled a league there.. all most centers want now is the money and leagues dont bring in the big bucks like the parties and other events do… if you ask me if you want a place to bowl in westchester even though they are abit on the pricey side go to homefield(not plugging the center here) but it is your best bet

Comment Date: 5/21/2008 Name: Long time league
League bowlers beware. I hear that with the end of the season three leagues have been told not to come back so they cam make room for corporate parties. Whos next? This house is not league friendly anymore. They probably wont be happy until they can get rid of all the leagues. You can’t get a strait answer from the management if you can find them when you are bowling. The rumor was that Dee got fired because she stole money but at least she talked to the leagues. Maybe AMF got rid of her to clear the way for their new plans.

Mike T. curious whats your full name… we might know each other.. i bowled in Westchester from 1985 til i would say 1996, took 6 years off( bowling burn out) and came back better than ever)btw im 37 if we are around the same age we might have bowled against each other

I used to bowl all over Westchester, and now I live in Europe (Germany to be exact). It’s a whole different game here. You don’t see guys putting up boxcar numbers like you do in the States, because they oil the lanes longer and use a lot more of it. You need to rely a LOT more on shotmaking rather than letting the back end of the lane do all the work.
I was around 200 for years, but here I’m about 185-190 and am quite competitive.

hey Craig , are you telling me that the 240 bowlers you know are able to carry it outside of there own houses? doubt it…if you think WPB is hard i feel sorry for you and the 240 guys you know(not trying start anything here) but that doesnt say much for the houses you guys bowl all comes down to the USBC wanting high averages and in my opinion its KILLING the sport. all someone has to do these days is buy a 220$ ball and watch it screem into the pocket and kill the rack…along with todays light wood and atlease 8-13 boards to play with how cant people shoot telephone numbers. i peersonally have bowled in almost every house in long island, queens, bronx, brooklyn, city, westchester, and and most of the points in between(surrounding states)and it is funny to watch and listen to some of the bowlers in the houses how really think who they i stated in am earlier post some guys are legit 200-220 ave however for every 1 of them you will find 60 that arent.

to craig, you think post was the best center.guess what???,which center is still running???if post bowl was so great, amf would’ve worked with the owners of the property, and MAYBE,post would be here.if you think anyone can do the lane maintenance part of the house, you’re wrong.these lane machines are so high tech, unless you attend lane seminars, you might as well throw in the towel.also, these high tech jobs, need more maintenance and more troubleshooting.wick machines are out, wickless machines are craig, unless you know what’s involved with these machines that run on the lanes, stay out of it,or bowl somewhere else.

Comment Date: 3/6/2008 Name: Craig
I also have bowled at both post and wpb and there is no comparison. Post was a great place to bowl and loved bowling there. WPB is not easy pba no matter what you think. I know people outside of westchester who have 240 averages in their house. westchester has harder houses and the lanes r challenging because White plains doesnt know how to oil their lanes properly.

to nyy23,have you ever thought maybe 4 to 6 stepper is happier where he is.he works for a private owner and doesnt have to deal with the corporate baloney of amf.if i were in his shoes, why bother working anywhere else.

Comment Date: 2/23/2008 Name: 4 to 6 stepper
sorry ny23,i’m spoken for on long island for a private owner.i’m paid good money, work for amf???you can have them.its expensive to bowl in westchester,(NO KIDDING)!!!long island, staten island, all of ny state,is high.hey, you choose where you want to live.why dont you apply for general manager???hey pba, please switch to ct and log onto bradley bowl…those jokers, dont have a clue to lane conditions.PBA,as a fellow bowler/mechanic,,tell them on the bradley site, about whats involved when it comes to lane maintenance.oops,i forgot, the junior bowlers are scoring on the same (shot)they are.lets say for hahas.if the lanes have no oil,the rest of the days would be the same thing, yes,or no???

Comment Date: 2/22/2008 Name: NYY23
First off I never said anything about the prices. It is expensive to bowl in Westchester, but that is not going to stop me from bowling. My problem is the staff at the center and their lack of concern for the bowlers in the building. As for which center is still open, that does not even justify a response. And I did work for AMF as I said in my previous comment, but in the centers I ran, customer service was our top priority. It is not for the managers and staff at White Plains Bowl. Maybe 4 to 6 stepper can get a job there since he/she seems to know everything.

hurray, someone like pba knows how to tell it like it is.i’m sure you’ll agree, its time for usbc to bring back shot making and get these clowns off cloud 9.they sing the blues and dont like it when someone like yourself,as well as i do,know these bowlers are not what they are on paper.i know a couple pba bowlers myself.have myself ever bowled on pba conditions???yes.better yet,i’d like to see these jokers bowl qualifying rounds of lots of games a day.its not easy to do.if anyone can do that, and make the tv finals,i’ll shake your hand, for now,its time to get rid of stevie wonder shots and go back to where the person had to use their heads or go home.

Comment Date: 2/21/2008 Name: PBA
Thank you for agreeing with me.. dont get me wrong there are a few good bowlers in WPB that will average 210-219 in some other places..but they WILL NOT survive on a PBA shot..I can list about 50 names off the top of my head that think how good they are but wont leave the building to bowl if they bowl in WPB ot any other place in Westchester County. I am personally getting tired of seeing averages going through the roof and its happening everywhere it is a shame…come bowl with me on PBA conditions and see how good you really arent..I have many friends in most bowling centers in Westchester and I found out the other day that dear friend of mine that i havent seen in awhile past away last May.. If i ever get back to 100% physically and make a TV show I will be sure to let is family know he is missed….anyway people should really get out of there own bowling houses and find some different shots to bowl on,when they dont score well on them they will appreciate the CHINA they have in Westchester

Comment Date: 2/18/2008 Name: ex post bowler
as a ex bowler of the defunct post bowl,i have to agree with pba.since usbc a.k.k abc, didn’t change the lane conditioning rule, back in the start of 2000,scores are way out of’s good 2 have a shot, but when averages get out of hand, there’s nothing more for the bowler(s) to shoot for.if usbc, went to the pba experience lane conditions,i’d be so happy,it wouldnt be funny.then the bowlers on cloud nine, would come back to pba,if these bowlers had to bowl on pba conditions, they wouldn’t know what to do!!!!!

Comment Date: 2/13/2008 Name: 4 to 6 stepper
i agree with you know,90-95% of houses in the u.s.,are too’re right about the crybabies, who want a easy i like the pba lane conditions.they dont give any1 the same shot twice back 2 back weeks.heaven forbid, these bowlers ever try bowling on the tour.if they want a challenge, they should bowl in a pba experince league.the 3 units of oil rule, thats been around since the 90s,has got 2’s time 2 bring back skill & shot-making back to the sport.

Comment Date: 2/10/2008 Name: PBA
i used to bowl in both Post and WPB. and i have to say that both houses are TOO EASY…. Post was a heaven for overated bowlers.. average 180 in any other center, go to Post and wind up with 210…and WPB isnt any better..actually ALL centers in WESTCHESTER COUNTY are easy and have nothing but bowlers that cry… come bowl on a real condition and see how all you guys and gals do..(insert your name here and Co.)

Post v White Plains Bowl, there is no comparison. I grew up in Post and worked there for a number of years. I have also worked at White Plains and a few other centers in the area and I can tell you the current regime at White Plains is the worst there has ever been. Anyone want to dig up Rose Twettle, she was even a better manager then the moron they have running the place now. The staff behind they desk leaves a lot to be desired, they dont know how to work the computer and are never properly trained. I bowl in 2 leagues in the house and we are in week number 21 now, in one league we have only started on time once, and the other league the bowlers are sweeping the floors and cleaning the tables before we start. And as for nys bowl 4 fun I dont know who the ex-employee is and I dont care who they are, but it sounds like either you have the grudge against AMF or you are a current employee who also has no clue.

to the ex-employee of amf centers, first, who taught you how to spell??you do sound like an employee, that has a grunch against the dumb running amf company.i worked for amf before they were bought out by goldman sachs.before it was fun to work for the company.when the g-s crew came into the picture,it was fine the 1st couple of years.after that it was downhill ever since.they pay their employees low wages, expecting them to make a’re right,as long as the manager keeps their overhead down, and still operate the center, they get a nice bonus.yes i admit, mgrs work a lot of hours, but when you have a owner(s)who know nothing about the game itself, that’s what you’re going to get.just remember this, amf in richmond,va has a whole bunch of 8290s sitting there, now the smart thing would be,to put them in centers, that have brunswick machines(old)or 8230s,to remove the old machines, and put their own in.these are the best running machines in the industry.they’re a lot safer to work on,parts usage is very low and as long as they’re maintained, they can run for years.the only center to date that has these 8290s is amf milford lanes,in milford ct.they have 60 can make a good running machine, back it up,with centers that have them, until they’re out there in amf centers, the machines are worthless.i’m not the only one that can tell you this.

I too used to work for AMF Post Bowl, WPB,Circle Lanes Conn.,& in NJ. I also know what the story is with center operations. People are complaining because of the way things have evolved with bowling in Westchester. Good staff is very hard to find for the centers and the costs are kept down so the Manager can get his bonus, but upper management, especially those who dont know a bowling ball from a hockey stick, and never bowled, are the reason why service has become so bad and going downhill. Couple that with AMF hiring Managers who have never bowled. It amazes me that they do this. POST was alot better than WBP. You know that. The lanes were maintained well and at its peak was a very busy and full center. We had leagues, we had open bowlers, seniors, handicapped, groups, birthday parties, etc. At least most everyone who worked there was a Bowler and knew the game. It not only was a bowling center but a place that was a central part of alot of peoples lives especially if you bowled alot. I used to work alot of hours day and night, and bowl 6 times or more a week…. and I enjoyed POST for almost 30 years before it was put to rest.

Comment Date: 12/13/2007 Name: Ex AMF Employees Assessment of Bowling in Westches
AMF is one of the reasons that local bowling has gone down the tubes in Westchester. AMF closed the better house when Post was sacrificed for Stop & Shop. They screwed alot of Seniors & Handicapped that used that house for BOWLING. They were forced to discard bowling in their programs because AMF would not try to accomodate them at WPB. They decided to try to make White Plains Bowl the Chelsea Piers of Westchester by overpricing the open bowling, shoe rental and whatever else they could stick the loyal bowlers who supported them for years & years. With that they hire people who never have bowled, and are rude and just not people friendly. Its a damned shame but White Plains Bowl is not maintained right and I hear that they will now sacrifice the leagues in favor of OPEN Bowling! Yep..its a business decision! A real good one at that! Just think about it…you are part of a league that.. lets say is 40 or 50 years old and now the house tells you they dont need you..get out! Thats what is going to happen there. Now a family who wants to bowl a few games and get shoes will have to shell out a small fortune. The excuse that operating costs have gone up, insurance, etc is a good one, except that there are a few houses in Westchester that are privately owned and operated that everybody who works there ARE bowlers or were bowlers and they understand how to treat customers. I am speaking about Paradise Lanes and Homefield Bowl. Both houses are privately owned and both proprietors have been in boeling forever! Both hire people who are KNOWLEDGEABLE AND BOWLERS! Something that AMF has lost sight of and doesnt really care anymore. I would tell anyone who is a true bowler who wants to support houses that work to earn your business to go to Paradise Lanes & Homefield Bowl. I have worked & bowled with the owner of Paradise Lanes and I can tell you that his house is run with THE BOWLER IN MIND! Same for Homefield Bowl! They run a tight ship and I like the way it is run as well. SO AMF..WAKE UP! You are NOT the only game in town..and at least for this bowler, I will not step foot in there and give them a dime from me..I used to bowl in 8 leagues between POST & White Plains Bowl. I also worked at POST & WPB as well as several othere AMF Houses and saw a steady decline in upper management which trickled down to the way the centers were run as well. What a shame, BUT I must thank you AMF..thank you for making me got to those other houses in Westchester and seeing what I was missing! Paradise Lanes & Homefield Bowl ..Its amazing how many people I know as I walk through those doors each week who were once going to AMF.
P.S. I AM NOT a disgruntled ex-employee

To all that bowls at this center, and that says Post Bowl is a real center.I worked at Post Bowl, before they closed it.If your complaining about White Plains, what makes you think Post Bowl would be better???Remember, mechanic are hard to find as it is.What AMF pays its staff,no way Post Bowl, could be a hair better.AMF has budgets, for all their centers.Payroll and machines. Most managers try to keep the payroll down and try to spend less money on pinsetters,so they can get their bonus each year.I worked for AMF,and I know how they operate. When Goldman Sacs, took over a long time ago,I knew there was going be trouble. If you don’t like the high prices around Westchester County,my advice is to either move upstate,or bowl in a private owner house.

Let’s see where to start I have worked in the Bowling Industry for almost 20 years (including at WPB) and White Plains Bowl is just about the worst center I have ever bowled in. The new manager is a total jerk (I’ll be nice) and does not care about his league bowlers. They think they can make it on open bowling and parties alone and they are sadly mistaken. The staff continues to get ruder with each new hire and they have no idea what they are doing. There are about a handful of people who actually know what they are doing. The machines are running poorly but they continue to make aesthetic changes to the center. Why don’t you try fixed the machines. I can’t wait to go tonight and bowl in my 9:00 league. Wait make that 9:15, 9:30 or maybe 9:45. We will see when we start tonight. The best part is after the 1st league finishes it takes them 10 minutes to but the lanes on for our league. I think it is time for another management change. If only Post or Armonk were still open, we could all bowl in real center.

White Plains is expensive. I found the staff friendly and helpful. New and mostly clean. The lanes were not in the best condition. More of a birthday and “glow” bowling center than a place for leagues. Would not bowl with a new ball at this center, balls returned marked up.

AMF has continued to keep the “only game in town” approach. The prices for shoe rentals and lines are outrageous! Management keeps rehiring retreads that were in various other houses in the area. There are some employees that are bowlers and know how to do the right thing. The other employees are young and really are not able to interact with customers very well. Its a shame….what was once a house that I was eager to bowl in, has become a place that I hold in contempt and wont bowl in anymore.

This bowling alley is only okay. The place seems clean enough (for a casual bowler) and the lanes seem okay and there is a good collection of balls to use. However I have several major problems with this bowling alley. First the prices are very high are certain times of the day / days of the week. Shoe rentals are expensive ($15.00 shoes on eBay were a great investment). Secondly the costumer service is terrible and rude.
I would recommend driving down to Yonkers where two superior and cheaper alleys exist, Homefield Bowl and Paradise Lanes, you won’t regret skipping this place.

If you would like new lanes in your town,if you could loan me about 2 million dollars because thats about what it would cost to build a small 16 lane bowling center, I would be happy to build lanes in your area. There is not enough bowlers to keep prices down with the cost of insurance, fuel, electric, the cost of a good mechanic is going to cost around 40 thousand dollars, etc.

I agree with the previous comment made about the dirty lanes and poor customer service. In addition I would like to say that the comment on 6/15/2005 is ridiculous. The lane conditions have been horrible for years. There is never oil on the lanes. I guess they were right about the consistent shot – it has been consistently a joke.

Whoever put that comment on 6/15/2005 concerning the great strides in customer service is either an employee at White Plains Bowl or AMF. It is obviosuly not a league bowler. This house offers nothing to the leagues. Lanes are consistently breaking down. The place is filthy – popcorn and gook all over the lanes and approaches. If another house comes into this area – this bowling alley will close down quickly.

This place is a liability waiting to happen. There is no adult supervision. Management is undertrained and too young. The response time for assistance is too slow, pathetic and shameful. According to the manager, the light balls caused ball jam. Don’t order pizza, it’s just dough and cheese.

A little expensive. On a Friday or Saturday it’s around $20 for two games. A little more reasonable on Sunday-Thursday when two games is only $13.

I had my party there and I loooooved it. It was one of the best parties I’ve ever had. We bowled the disco bowl downstairs with the huge plasmas, cool music and neon lights. I go very often. I love it. PRICE IS NO OBJECT. I think it’s decently priced. But the service is kind of bad.

I had my twins 8th year birthday party at White Plains Bowl. The party had 35 children and parents who stayed. My hostess was excellent. She handled the children in a fun but controllable manner. The food was great – we ordered some extra food for the adults who stayed – the platters were great. The best part was it was hassle free and we had our own party room for the cake and food. Everything was included – it was great. I would highly recommend this bowling alley to all.

AMF White Plains Lanes has made great strides in customer service from an open casual bowler to the competative or league bowler. The lane conditions have been consistant all year long. I have bowled in this center for approx 11 years. I have been through many of the positive as well as negative changes. But this year has been the best it has ever been. I also recommend this center for birthday parties, it is hassle free and no clean up for me. So thanks to all the staff at AMF White Plains Lanes.

This center is poorly managed and the fact that the district manager has his office there does little or nothing to make this center any better. As a matter of fact his presence often makes the center WORSE … I have worked at this center and the staff there are VERY much a click … if you don’t fit in you don’t work there or get a fair shake for very long … If I had the money I would open a center nearby and put this AMF house out of business in a year …

As a person who lives in California, and had the opportunity to bowl in this house once, the price is outrageous.

We used to have a choice of several lanes. Now WP Lanes is the only game in town and the owners are rude and abusive. The prices are out of sight. Someone should think about opening a new lane nearby. With the proper attitude and appreciation for their patrons, they would do quite well.

Inconsistent shot conditions; bowling areas often dirty. Center badly managed; manager has shown callous disregard for league bowlers by overbooking leagues and forcing ours into a 9:10 pm. start time so we seldom finish before 12:30 am, as well as forcing us to take Christmas and New Year’s weeks off from league so the house could be open for more lucrative (for them) open bowlers. Several other houses in the area have closed over the past few years, so management has taken a rather ugly “only game in town” approach to league bowlers. The manager even totally wrecked the shot condition on the last night of league bowling (by her own later admission) when top placement honors and prize money were on the line, but did nothing to try to correct the problem, explain it or even admit to it at the time. I have bowled at White Plains Bowl as a league bowler for almost 20 years; but the overall experience has degenerated to the point that my team has officially resigned from this league and none of us will ever bowl in this house again.
