The condition of the lanes is taking all the fun out of bowling for myself. We are stuck with six more weeks on Monday nite, and not a trace of a shot in sight. Would be better to just shut down leagues now. Lanes get half way oiled once a week, the approaches are nasty, the equipment is starting to break down. The girls at the grill are all that is up to par. The bowling operation is an absolute nightmare. I know the owner gave it a good effort, but if this is the way it is going to be, cut your loses and close the bowling side down. We are obligated to this league, so give us a way out so we can go enjoy bowling somewhere else.

Well it has been long enough now to realize no changes are going to be made in the way the lanes are being dressed. It is just a shame, but it is probably going to cost us our league on Monday Nite. Majority of bowlers have stated unless there is a dramatic change in the way the lanes are being dressed, they will not be back. I am local, and enjoy bowling, but it looks like I will be headed for Lumberton or Shallotte for league bowling.

Another night of of absolute horrible bowling. No line, no pattern, no break point. We got brand new pins on the deck, and no way to get to the pocket to try them out. Feel sorry for Kelly, come on get him some help on setting up a house shot.

After reading the previous two comments I just had to respond. I wiil have to agree the bowling has been very tough the last few months. It would be very disappointing for this to be a reason to start losing league bowlers when things have started to look up as far as leagues are concerned. I know they are trying their best, but there has to be somebody somewhere that can help get the lane dressing situation under control. I know a good bowler should be able to adjust, but for me, my age ,and the equipment I now own makes it almost impossible to deal with lanes that the pattern will not hold up more than a few frames. On some nights there seems to be no oil what so ever.

If the house does not get someone to lay down a consistant oil pattern I am afraid you are going to start losing your better bowlers. I is like playing golf with no grass on the greens.

I have been bowling on the Monday nite league for a couple of years. My experience has been mostly positive. Only complaint is that the past summer and so far this winter the oil pattern on the lanes have been very difficult to figure out. Does not seem to have a so called house pattern. No consistant pattern, and break point is all over the place. Love bowling here, but starting to become very frustrated. Just check the averages this winter league versus last winter league. Scores are down 15-20 percent.

I come here almost everyday. Although I don’t bowl everytime I go (usually play pool). The times that I do choose to bowl are always fun. Always clean, staff is friendly. I came here on New Years 2010 and won a 2 day stay at the Ocean Isle Inn at Ocean Isle Beach! I would recommend this place to anyone.

On our recent trip to 701 Lanes, we had a wonderful time. After watching the place falling apart and Jamie taking over 2 years ago, he has turned it completely around. Even though its a older center, Jamie and his staff makes you feel at home.
My family and I bowled on a pair of lanes for about 2 hours and we didnt have any problems with the machines. Unlike 6 months ago when there was only 6 or 8 lanes running and numerous problems. Today, everything is up and running. There are always specials at Hambonz Grill. Jamie and his staff are always working to make it better. Thanks Jamie and staff, keep up the good work.

I had been away from the bowling scene in Whiteville for a good many years. I had heard the horror stories about how after Jim Garrett left the lanes just went down hill. After a couple of absolutely terrible jobs
of mis-management I really thought it would be the end of 701 Lanes. My wife whom had also been away for 10 plus years starting bowling on a church league this past Winter and seemed to be enjoying it, so I decided one Sunday afternoon I would take my collection of old rubber balls and give it a try. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. The building and equipment were spotless, and in fairly good mechanical condition. The grill had very good food, and the girls were very friendly and attentive. The lanes although fifty years old were in amazingly good shape. So come on out some of you oldtimers and give it a try. Mr Insley and his staff have done an outstanding job. Come on Columbus County give it a try, they have it all, red pin, cosmic, league bowling, great selection at the grill, and it all a very affordable price.

I had been away from bowling for a number of years. I was more than pleasantly surprised when I decided to take the game back up in the past couple of months. I had heard numerous stories about how run down 701 Lanes had become under the previous owners ,since Jim Garrett had left. I found the lanes although old , they are in good shape. Grill and facilities spotless, food not only very good, but a great variety. No doubt Mr. Insley and his staff have taken a great deal of pride and effort in bringing things back up to par. Come on old timers come on back out and give them a shot. Lanes are true, and score what you hit. Way to go Jamie you have done an outstanding job.
