The Dog House is an independently owned and operated restaurant inside of Paone’s Blackhawk Lanes. This is a leased facility with restrictions of no outside food or drink inside of the center with the exception of the Dog House’s food and catering by an outside vendor of the owner’s choosing. I hope that this will clear up any misunderstanding that anyone may have regarding this.

It is now a known fact that Sterling isn’t the only place with the problem. The foundation of our social structure is challenged very day. It’s how we meet that challenge that separates the men from boys. Bowling has had a reputation since before I was born. The industry tried to clean it up. That’s why you don’t hear bowling alley anymore. But it has been written a double minded man is unstable in all his ways. YOU CAN’T TEACH YOUR CHILDREN SOMETHING AND DO THE OPPOSITE. Think about it, if you don’t understand ask the child. Paones is a great example, he claims the Dog House as his snack bar but tells his employees he can’t help them with the cost because it’s not his business. He also posts notices at his doors no outside food but then allows Dog House food in his establishment.

I was just browsing the internet and came across this website. My opinion may not matter much and this situation involving the “PORNO” cards may have been resolved. I bowl four leagues in the Kankakee area (3 men 1 mixed). We use those cards and never have had any trouble with anyone. I agree that out in the public a person’s behavior is under scrutiny by his or her peers. We are always concerned about who may or may not view our cards. Yes’ there are children at our centers and we are aware of this. One of our centers is 36 lanes and is quite busy during our leagues. Just turn the cards over after you draw one. Drool over the picture if you must. But after so many drools, the pictures get irrelevent and I find myself just putting the cards together to form a good poker hand. Life is too short to dwell over trivial things such as this. I am not a religious person but I do respect the lives and rights of others. If that what makes them happy and they are not bothering you physically, then let them be. It’s not that big an issue. If league members were showing these cards to minors, I would have a problem with that. Be discrete as well as courteous! This facility sounds as though it has its act together. People in your area need to appreciate what they have in this bowling center and what it has to offer. If I am ever in your town, I would definately stop by and check it out.

What a clean place, friendly staff and a fun atmosphere. We will definitely make this a family activity for years to come

The rumors say that new equipment was being installed, so I checked it out. It’s true, a new scoring system has been installed. So the cover-up is almost complete. This new scoring system is supposed to bring new customers for the leagues. People are expected to forget about the real problem that exists in this area. I just spent a very enjoyable year not going to this bowling center, being forced “men” to “accidently” view the porno they can’t live three hours without. It’s a shame on them that they can’t control their minds for just three short hours. I’ve been told it can’t be stopped, but I know if they were real men they could control it.

We bowled cosmic bowling last Saturday and had an absolute blast. I will definitely go back and do this again and will bring more of my friends. The people and the environment was great.
Great place to spend your time!

Despite the silence about this problem now that it’s out in the open it needs to be fixed. It has been noted that years ago there were three bowling centers up and running full time in this area. The ownership has allowed this problem to balloon into just a big problem that now there is only one center operating full time. Rumor has it that the goal of filling all the spots missed by 10-20 teams. On the average that’s around a thousand dollars a team for a four person team and over 30 week season. I salute the few citizens who are narrow minded enough to not let their little head rule their lives. Two thirds of the bowlers have already quit the game. Don’t let these double minded people ruin bowling for everyone!

Just wanted to say that Blackhawk is great. I received great service and had a blast. The cosmic bowling was fun and my family had a blast. We will be going here for a long time.

As has been previously explained, the forum for this discussion is either in the league meetings or the association member meetings. If you would like to see this as something that becomes a rule that governs your league, than this information needs to be brought to a vote in your league and established as a league rule OR brought up in an association member meeting to be voted on in that setting. If you would like to create a rule that establishes nude playing cards as against the rules, then this is where you should make a motion and have your argument presented. As an association member, your vote counts, but only if you make your voice heard in these settings.

I’ve been reading the comments here and I feel that it’s a shame that people think the way they do. Here’s what I’ve learned about this situation. We all know what the law says about porn or we wouldn’t dress to leave the house. The laws are written to give lawyers something to do. I’ve talked to the ownership and the association president about this and neither want to do anything about it. The end result is they’ve lost my family’s business.

Friendly staff. Clean, even the restrooms! We had a great time and will definitely go back.

What difference does it make to vote if nothing is going to change. I think the people who don’t want it to change are the non-christians. Christians people don’t have a chance.

Why-can’t we get all new rules.Maybe if I fight with my husband long enough, he will find a different hobby. Or divorce me, ya thats a nice idea. And I could do what I want for a change-with a new younger man.Bowling s*cks

Comment Date: 7/3/2006 Name: Stefanie from Polo
Paone’s might not endorse porn material but you are not telling people to keep it at home either.
And if it is going to be there-than the men need to keep their thoughts to themselves-and shut-up.
Have the leagues that want to play with those cards later in the evening after 10:00 at night.
People wake up, Paone’s isn’t the only place to go.

Comment Date: 7/3/2006 Name: andrea from Rock Falls
Get rid of cosmic bowling on Friday nights, that night is the only night I have to play.

Comment Date: 7/3/2006 Name: Sharon
Mike, I doubt if you want your family to go in the bowling alley and eye those cards that the men were playing with the other night-try explaining porn to your kids like I had too. Then we’ll talk.

Comment Date: 7/3/2006 Name: Paone’s Blackhawk Lanes
Cosmic Bowling is currently running on Friday and Saturday nights from 7PM – 1AM. The schedule right now is to run this through the end of July. This schedule will more than likely be modified in August, as the league season starts up. You may check for open bowling times, both cosmic and regular open bowling times.

We are currently seeking homeschooled children in the Sauk Valley area for a new program that we are developing. If you home school your child or children, please contact us by sending an email to with your contact information.
We would also like to try to develop an after-school bowling program for our area youth. If you are interested or would like to submit your desire for such a program, please send an email to

Sharon, the only time that I have ever seen those types of cards is during leagues, both men and womens leagues. Very few teams actually use them and all the ones that I have seen are face down on the tables. I have never seen anyone use them during regular bowling, nor have my kids been exposed to this during leagues. Which my children are out at the bowling alley quite often on league nights.
People are making this into something it is not. You make it sound like the cards are there all of the time and realistically they are not. Most people are respectful to the fact that kids are there and keep the cards to themselves. Not too mention the fact not everyone is using those types of cards, but regular playing cards as well.
Blackhawk is a family-friendly environment and my family completely enjoys going there.

Why can’t we get all new rules for the bowling alley? And have things posted-I’ll tell you why-because nobody wants to change!!!

Comment Date: 6/30/2006 Name: Anita from polo
Why are the drinks different prices depending on who is serving them?
And why doesn’t the bowling alley ask us when cosmic bowling should be. Friday night or Saturday night but not both nights.
When I get away from the kids and husband it is my time with my girl friends to bowl, drink and pretend I’m single for awhile.Men aren’t the only ones who wish they were single sometimes.

Comment Date: 6/30/2006 Name: Mike
Blackhawk is a great place to go and have fun. I have been taking my family and I there for over 30 years and it has been one of the cleanest & friendliest bowling alleys that I have ever been to. I would go there rather than anywhere else in town. My kids have their birthday parties there. My wife and I bowl in leagues there together and we have so much fun.
This bowling center is one of the best that I have ever seen. I don’t know what this person below is complaining about. This place is more than family friendly.

Comment Date: 6/30/2006 Name: Renee from moline
So does that means we all can act like butt heads and it be the bowling alleys fault. ok

Comment Date: 6/30/2006 Name: Amy from sterling
Ladies what happens in the bowling alley, stays in the bowling alley-so girls married or single
bowl, drink hard, be as vulgar as you want nobody will tell on you. And guy watch all you want, the bowling alley doesn’t care, so kick up a lot a dust and drink until you barth, the bowling alley doesn’t have rules. Husbands to hell with them- we can play too

Comment Date: 6/30/2006 Name: Stephanie from sterling
In other words the people of this community enter the bowling alley at their own risk. Me I will tell everybody I know to stay away.

Comment Date: 6/30/2006 Name: katy in Sterling
When I was there the other night,I thought the alley was too slippery. And then i noticed the carpet was wet-Do something about that now because I am a serious bowler and that can wreck my game score. And people behind the desk, shut-up and just let me pay for my shoes and bowling,
I don’t care what you have to say.
Or I will go somewhere else.

Comment Date: 6/29/2006 Name: Anonymous
Grow Up! Not everyone is a Christian and now you are forcing your views on everyone else. Drinking is allowed outside the bar, so why would they post that.

Comment Date: 6/29/2006 Name: Paone’s Blackhawk Lanes
I would like to comment on a few of things posted here:
First a background check is going to be implemented this year according to USBC’s Registered Volunteer Program. This involves that each individual that is involved with the youth bowling program be required to adhere to a background check and verification. We have always had a strong youth program and with the help of the certified coaches and volunteers, we are always striving to make this program better.
People come in all shapes, sizes, religious backgrounds, etc. We are in business to provide an entertainment to people of all backgrounds and beliefs.
Currently, except during youth leagues or tournament, individuals are able to smoke or drink anywhere in the center. If you have a problem with the laws then I suggest you contact your state representatives and voice your opinion to them. They are the ones that are involved in the process of creating the laws that govern what is done in a public place.
As for the Sterling-Rock Falls Association President; I am not sure that I understand the question. I personally attended the men’s association meeting, which every member was invited to attend and VERY few attended. There was no one else that ran for office against the president. Can you please clarify your question?
We are a public place and will not post or enforce a dress-code. If you are in a league, those are under USBC regulations and must follow those rules and regulations. Please contact USBC, if your complaint is about a particular league that you may involved in.
We are a family entertainment center and provide a location that is friendly for a variety of people. We provide leagues for youth and adult bowlers and have a variety of types of leagues for every person. I believe that if anyone has a problem with a particular league, then they should voice their problems with the league officers or the association board. If you cannot get your grievance handled then I would advise you to consider another league, such as one of our many church associated leagues.
I would again urge anyone that has a problem with a particular item to bring it to the attention of management at the time that it is happening. It is much easier to handle a situation at the time of occurance rather than speaking in general terms.

Comment Date: 6/29/2006 Name: Anonymous
The association officers are elected by those that show up for the meetings (the membership). There must also be a volunteer for that position or have someone nominated for that position. My question to you would be, did you show up to vote? There was no one running against the current president, so there were no other options. Apathy is one of the biggest problems with the association members. Those that are not there to voice their opinions are the first ones to complain about it.
Maybe you should get involved in the process more and let your voice be heard.

Hear me and hear me well, you bald and old men should be put out to pasture/ So us women can enjoy bowling, drinking and eyeing the younger men. Every man over 35 needs to stay home with your baby food.

The drinks were fine. I bowled my best game ever.
a 250 and I enjoyed looking at the cute tight *sses of the young guys. Thanks, keep bringing in the hot young guys, but can you tell the older bald guys to stay out. We women can look but we can’t touch. are husbands may care or may not care. well you know the reputation of bowling alleys-married women like to look too.

When I go out-I like to kick up a little steam-if things get out of hand-its the bowling alley
problem, not mine. because there is nothing else to do in this town.

Why doesn’t Blackhawk Lanes post somewhere-
No bad language, no xxx material, no smoking beyond this point, and no drinking outside the bar area. And a proper dress code, And the bowling alley stick to it.

Comment Date: 6/27/2006 Name: Anonymous
I looked up on the rock falls/sterling association who the President was-very unhappy
with that pick. Why was’nt he screened and why was he picked again?

Comment Date: 6/27/2006 Name: Anonymous
Get real when its league night, nobody else is there bowling. grow-up this isn’t high school.
have your mid-life crisis somewhere else.

Comment Date: 6/27/2006 Name: Anonymous
I thought all comments were welcome – here.
I totally agree-that the owner should set a good example for everyone else. Just because we are over 21 doesn’t mean its right. Has the owner of the bowling alley screened the people who are going to be around the youth, to see if the adults are good people with no records. I doubt it. Get your minds out of the gutter and start acting like mature christian people

I think Paone’s Blackhawk Lanes is very good with community…and they seem to work hard at make activities for all types of groups, children & adults of all ages and beliefs. Bowling is such an open sport you get all walks of life in one activity it would be impossible to do one thing that will be pleasing to everyone from different walks of life… I think the cosmic and adult child league they have along with Church leagues and different night and day leagues gives everyone a chance to pick a time that is fitting to everyone without trying to force all of us to have the same thoughts and feelings on things. Pick a group fitting to your views…I think the owner is doing what any person with such a big range of customers would…he offers us all times and chances to bowl in a league group that is fitting to our choices without making his personal views effect who comes in but making everyone’s time to what they feel comfortable with…. Sounds to me he is being more a grown up then the people that commented below he understands we are all different and have different veiws and one person shouldn’t try to control everyone we all have a right to what we believe!

Comment Date: 6/7/2006 Name: Paone’s Blackhawk Lanes
I don’t feel that the previous two comments reflect the operation or views of this center. Paone’s Blackhawk Lanes, does not endorse pornographic material being on display. We strive on providing a place for families to be able to come and enjoy their time. We support many of the area churches, groups and other activities, through our involvement with and donations to these organizations. If you feel that you were wrongly treated or something did not meet to your satisfaction than I would suggest that you bring your comments to the staff of the center, rather than post an “Anonymous” comment on a website.

Comment Date: 5/27/2006 Name: Anonymous
Blackhawk Lanes need to make it a more christian
place to be, and tell people to leave pornagraphic material at home. I really don’t want to come to a place where the owners have no
feelings for christian women. THe owner needs to grow up and set a good example.

Because what I have seen at the bowling alley, coming to Blackhawk lanes is not on the top of my list-clean up your act and maybe I will come back to bowl.If you don’t clean up your act, I WON”T COME AND SPEND MY MONEY. And I know you want to make money, isn’t that why you are in the business!!!!!
