This is going to be the best birthday than the others ones I had and I love bowling I will have a great time

Comment Date: 3/4/2012 Name: Anonymous
Laurel doesn’t have open play because it looks like a dungeon not a bowling center. So they haver plenty of room for tournaments.
But the fact still remains that Frenchie and his crew are long standing members of the organization that makes the tournaments and it gives him leverage by seeing what others bid so he can undercut them by pennies if need be in order to host the tournament @ Laurel.
I think thats a huge confict of interest and a great rackett for him.
As far as last “True bowling center”?
Thats an idiotic statement if one was ever made.

Comment Date: 1/22/2012 Name: WOW what an idiot
Alot of the tournys are being held at laurel because no other centers put in a bid for them….they rather have open play. Thats why Laurel is one of the last TRUE Bowling Centers, they havnt turned into a teen hang out. Bowling Centers have turned into Fun Centers, Laurel is still a place for the bowlers

Comment Date: 9/25/2011 Name: WOW
Its gotta be great being a GCCBA board menber (along with your spouse not mention employees and league officers) and managing a bowling center that lands a majority of this years tournaments. Talk about a conflict of interest…”No way guys, no shady goings on here”. Must be a last ditch effort on Frenchies part to try and make some money with this place before the economy shark pulls it down for the last time.

Comment Date: 11/19/2010 Name: Anonymous
I haven’t bowled at Laurel in a few years. I have heard that the shot is much better, the pro shop is terrible and Frenchie is still Frenchie. Well, at least one thing got better over the years.

Comment Date: 11/2/2010 Name: Walled up shot
Walled up shot says I am good for your game. Without me you would be lost. Your average would go back down to normal. You will realize how much u s*ck at spare making. You will no longer be able to shoot 300 playing 6 different lines at the same time.

Comment Date: 11/2/2010 Name: Ball into couch
Ball into couch says I am good for your game. I help u make sure your ball was fit properly and comes off your hand smoothly. I am just one of a million ways to check your equipment and improve your game.

Comment Date: 10/30/2010 Name: Anonymous
I do not really care who knows what. As long as the center remains open and they have a pro shop. I know these guys are not that good, but as least they are there working on all the low and average bowlers.

Comment Date: 10/28/2010 Name: been there twice
congratulations you are the first person I ever met who actually got a ball drilled at superbowl. I didnt even know they had a pro shop. I just thought all their bowlers went to Stan. Thanks for the info. Now I know where all the JONAHs shop.

Comment Date: 10/28/2010 Name: in the know
good for T-Bowl. Laurel is a totally different situation. I can sit here and name off ten reasons why laurel will not be around much longer but Im not here to bad talk Laurel. I actually hope you are right but i just dont see it. I am only here to defend my friends against cowards like you who launch anonymous personal attacks from behind the safety of your computer screen. You want to disagree thats fine but leave the name calling to the little children.

Comment Date: 10/27/2010 Name: Jon
I used to go to Bob and Rich at Superbowl lanes for all my drilling. I always had a fit issue so I decided to try the shop at Laurel Lanes. The kid in the shop who You say has no clue fit my hand and flexability of my hand very well. Which Bob never did. My ball has never felt better. I also after it was drilled threw the ball on the couch but it was only to make sure it came off before i went to try it on the lane. Thats all its used for. I will go back and will refer all my friends. Its like any business some people like it and some don’t.

Comment Date: 10/22/2010 Name: In the Know ????????
Laurel has not slipped past any point. In teh know, you are really stupid. Look at the old T-Bowl in Wallingford. That place was a mess, many times worse than laurel. Wood lanes, the machines on the first 10 lanes or so torn apart for parts and the place in general was falling apart. New owners came in and fixed it up to where it is now respectable. Yes, it will cost money, but it can be done.
Based on what I am reading, you really do not know that much. I think you should sit back and think before you post and also change your name to “in the know wanabe”.

Comment Date: 10/22/2010 Name: Been there and not going back !
Hey, in the know, throwing the ball “up” in the air is NOT good coaching especially for “fitting”
a ball for gripping purposes. You are squeezing the ball and releasing it more than 12 inches off the ground. You call this a good “fitting” and coaching system ? There is no doubt that the kid in the shop is a very good bowler, BUT good bowlers do not often mean good drillers. Anyone that buys a ball there BE AWARE, these guys do not know what they are doing. Go to Bristol or Super Bowl, as least these guys know how to fit and layout the ball. I went to Superbowl and while I was waiting my turn, 2 other bowlers walked in that had there ball drilled by these idiots at laurel. Bob, the Pro shop guy, when I asked about the laurel pro shop, just smilled and did not want to say anything negative. I think that said it all.

Comment Date: 10/12/2010 Name: in the know
Thats because dominic has neglected the place for so long. Its obviously too late now. The reason Marcel was supposed to come back but didnt….DOMINIC. He let the rot for so long its no longer worth fixing. When Marcel was GM he doubled the business and still had to beg just to put any money back into it. So yeh just like anything else in life u neglect something long enough and you reach a point of no return. You can thank Dominic for letting Laurel slip past that point.

Comment Date: 10/7/2010 Name: Anonymous
If you are “in the know” you would know that they lease the building and even if somebody were to come and buy the business, they would never get it off the ground without DEEP pockets just to get the place up to code, I’m sure the landlord will not spend money like that without a sharp rent increase. In this economy thats not likely to happen.
So what else do you think you know ?

Comment Date: 10/7/2010 Name: In The Know
If u can’t adjust your game to the shot on the lanes you s*ck. Bowl for fun or ****. Those of u knocking Marcel.. He built all those leagues that have been declining. Within 2 yrs he doubled the business in that place so get a clue. Frenchie is a nice guy but he was in over his head at first. Dominic of Nutmeg has always been the problem. He refuses to spend the money needed to upgrade the place. Laurel should be sold to an owner who actually cares. Ruths snack bar is by far the best snack bar in all of CT. They have the cheapest prices and the tastiest food.Butch hasnt coached at Laurel in many years but if thats who was coaching ur kid then your not going to find many better then him. And yes throwing your ball against the couch is a valid coaching technique. The Kid in the proshop was a better bowler at 16 then most of u or your kids will ever be. Bowling is a joke. Everyone thinks theyre good because they can average 200 ona wall shot but the lanes fault when the shot breaks down and they adjust. Maybe some of u just need to realize that you s*ck. Its the equipment and easy patterns providing a false illusion of skill. GoML

Rumour has it that they are closing at the end of this season.

This center should retire! I have not seen any improvements out of all the years i have bowling here! I took our team to bristol and bristol spare time is truly a great center and a fun atmosphere. Laurel lanes is a disgrace after frenchie took over!

Comment Date: 8/11/2010 Name: Anonymous
Warning, ruth at the snack bar picks her nose and cooks, to all customers, donot eat there!!! Its gross. Frenchie is a snob. Sue is a snob b****. Big shot’ s that act like therre the king and queen of the lanes. Laurel lanes is disgusting. Bristol’s spare time is the true center.

Comment Date: 8/6/2010 Name: J
Whoever wants to say bristol s*x, you are completely wrong 100% . Laurel lanes s*x worse , a bowling alley that is very boring and dead most of the time. Becareful what u say because i heard lots of serious bowlers would take bristol spare time over boring laurel lanes anytime. How’s that hot shot!

Comment Date: 7/21/2010 Name: Anonymous
The 2 guys in the Pro Shop do not have a clue, especially the old one. I had him fit me for a ball and he had me throwing the ball into the air onto a couch. Now, how many of us actually throw the ball up in the air when we bowl ? My advice, go somewhere else. These guys are clueless.

Comment Date: 7/12/2010 Name: Anonymous
Wow big step up Bristol s*x even worse, it just gives pretty lights to look at while they drain your pockets and screw your league.Rumour has it alot of their leagues are moving out too.

Comment Date: 7/11/2010 Name: Nl
Ive seen frenchie swear at a customer before. Not the type of person id like to see run a crappy bowling center.

Comment Date: 7/11/2010 Name: Anonymous
Frenchie should of been fired along time ago. Certainly not the type that should be dealing with customers. Frenchie was terrible at drilling my equipment! A new person took over the pro shop> the new guy aint got a clue about equipment. A bit of advice to the people out there, if u are a open bowler stay away from laurel, unless u want to deal with frenchie. If ur looking to buy equipment from the pro shop the old guy s*cks at drilling. Laurel in my opinion should be bought by bowl new england and get new staff. Ruth at the snack bar picks her nose ad still cooks!

Comment Date: 7/7/2010 Name: Jl used to bowl fridays
I heard bob got fires. That is sad and hes worked so hard throughout the years. I bet u that jerk frenchie did it! Frenchie is two faced and let me tell u ur better off bowling at bristol! I think frenchie and sue wisk should be fired! I sure as hell wont bowl there anymore!

Comment Date: 7/7/2010 Name: John used to bowl friday nights now bristol!
I enjoyed my high games and high series at laurel, no doubt about that. I noticed a big problem with frenchie and sue wisk’, “very mean people who does not know how to run a league and the center. Oh! Im wondering why everyone is coming to bristol! Keep up your crap sue and frenchie, the more your attitude is towards customers and league players, the more youll see people go away! And your bowling center is not gonna last. Oh and sue just a reality check! You let my cousin back on the league rob why not me! U are two faced! You’d rather see me bowl now and youd think twice!

I wanted to right and say that I was in town a few weeks ago and hadnt been to laural lanes in years. And I have to say It was some nice to see Bob still at the counter.I grew up coming to laural lanes my parents were on leagues way back when there was a candy league in the 1970s.The place was like a second home for years. In all this time I have to say this placed hasnt changed much at all!! the biggest change to me was the hedges around the building that I think were planted when I was a kid had finally been trimmed and looked great! it is nice to show a little pride in the place. The food was still great. The lanes have been changed over ,the bathrooms looked better. I cant wait to get back to CT> and visit with BOB talk about old times, Bowl a few games with my family and have a hamburg and fry.

Comment Date: 5/21/2010 Name: Mike
I wanted to say that the bowling center hasnt changed in twenty five or so years. I was just in town for a weekend trip and stopped by and was pleased to see the man Bob at the counter was still there. when I was a just starting to learn to bowl. my parents were on leagues since I was in a play pen at laurl lanes. it just feels like home to me. and it was nice to reminice with BoB about Old times.I do have to say that the only things that had canged for the better in the maintenance of the building were up dated lanes and someone finaly trimed the hedges around the front of the building! and they did a nice job!!

Comment Date: 6/12/2009 Name: Anonymous
Maybe they are waiting for the lease to run out.
Just be another place for BNE to dress up nice and drive down the toilet.

Comment Date: 1/23/2009 Name: Anonymous
Wish the owners would update this place. Its dark and looks like you have gone back in time with all that panneling and 60’s look. And whats with all the buckets on the chairs. Fix the roof ! I used to bowl here many years ago and it really hasn’t changed that much. Take away the automatic scorers and it looks the same. Are the owners that cheap ?

Comment Date: 9/5/2008 Name: Anonymous
I am stating facts…there is still money in leagues if you willing to go get it, BUT Marcel didn’t want to do that he chose the unstable open bowling avenue without the capitol to back it up( an updated asthetically pleasing center )
As far as running out leagues they starting walking when he was there and showed no interest in keeping them there or fixing any problems they had, not to mention bringing in some of his ringer buddies to steal the leagues prize funds( and from my understanding for a kickback from them) to use for the vacations for the vacation leagues.
As far as personal emotions ? What is your problem ? Are you Marcel or just one of his buddies who helped him screw Laurel lanes into the poor house?

Comment Date: 9/5/2008 Name: Anonymous
With all due respect you have no clue what you are talking about. League bowling is dying. Open bowling is where the money is. As for his ability to generate revenue HE IS THE BEST PROPRIETOR IN THE STATE OF CT. If you have a personal problem with him thats fine but business wise he knows what he is doing. League bowling does not generate the money it used to and with leagues falling by the wayside all centers are turning towards open play. And if you want to talk about running bowlers out compare the # of league bowlers when Marcel was in charge and to the # now. On a friday night to go from a full 40 lanes when he was in charge to less than 20 after he left. Compare the actual # of leagues when he was there to now. Compare the facts not emotion.

Comment Date: 9/1/2008 Name: Anonymous
Your joking right ?
If Marcel is such a genius why did he run so many leagues out the door to cater to open bowling ?
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that your leagues guarenteed money.
Yeah “running like a top” out of control straight to the bankruptcy court.
Of course the only smart thing he did was bail out before the place self-destructs.

Comment Date: 8/29/2008 Name: Anonymous
I have to agree. Marcel was not the problem and to a certain degree neither is the current manager. The real problem is that Nutmeg controls the money and they have very little to spend on laurel. It all goes to Nutmeg.
The real problem with Laurel is DOMINIC from Nutmeg.

Comment Date: 8/28/2008 Name: Anonymous
Just for future reference Marcel did not even come close to running Laurel Lanes bankrupt. Actually he had that place running like a top. If you have a personal problem with him thats one thing but as a proprietor there is not a better one in the state of CT. As for the center its has amazing potential but lacks the proper staff.

Comment Date: 6/19/2008 Name: Anonymous
Laurel lanes is owned by the same people who own Nutmeg Bowl

Comment Date: 6/18/2008 Name: Josh
laurel Lanes is a nice bowling center. I only bowled there a few times. But, eveytime I walk in there, it like walking into the past. Ceiling tile that is almost black, old crappy wood panels on the walls, along with dirty ugly flooring. I was told that they replace the carpet a few years ago. Also, did anyone ever walk into the mens room. What an adventure, its falling apart. Looks to me that they are just barely staying in business or the owners are real cheap. As far as the lane conditions go, they do seem a bit strange, but I do not bowl there very much. Advice to the owners, UPDATE the place.

Comment Date: 5/29/2008 Name: Anonymous
Interesting…How you mention Marcel, thats the same moron who nearly ran the business into bankruptcy right ?
He certainly did a great job running most of the leagues outta there the ran himself down to Lore’s to see how badly he could break that place.
Furthermore brainiac the item the you are talking about is a LINO DUSTER it is a blue or purple cloth like material on a large roll, who primary function is to pick up dust and dirt on the lane so it doesn’t end up clogging the waste cleaner tubes and tank inside the machine.
In a nutshell I’d have to say the last time a good consistant shot was put on those lanes was the last day Buzzy oiled them.

Comment Date: 5/29/2008 Name: fan of the hoarse
Yeah u guys are real smart it takes three guys to incorrectly insult this hoarse guy. Machine comes with programs line-a-duster isn’t a mop whoever said that isn’t smart and should shut the hell up b4 he gets a whack across the face with a wet hotdog. Has nothing to do with a well trained mechanic if the machine isn’t running like it should its not gonna put down a consistent shot. My scores there are fine all u
{deleted} should learn to adjust the the conditions thats the same thing marcel woulda said. Blame the driver not the road.

Comment Date: 5/27/2008 Name: Anonymous
Not to but in here….but, The Pheonix machines do come from the factory with programs pre-installed(15 to be exact), however it does have the ability to be changed. And yes some centers do run the preset programs.
The problem with their lanes is that they are running too many different patterns for the machine to keep up with stripping the lane properly. Therefore the oil residue from the previous runs still remains on the lanes causing tough lane conditions.
So in a round about way it is Frenchie’s fault for not having a properly trained mechanic on duty to know these things.

Comment Date: 5/27/2008 Name: Fred
Hoarse, did you say he filled the oil machine with stripper and line-a-duster. Dude, line-A-duster is a mop. What a jerk.

Comment Date: 5/26/2008 Name: JB
Hoarse, how old are you ? Did you get past the 3rd grade yet ? Your spelling is terrible. For your information, the guy is correct. Frenchie sets up the program in the machine. You just don’t buy an oil machine and run the program it came with. No bowling center does that. They taylor the shot to the condition thay want to see on the lane.

Comment Date: 5/25/2008 Name: Anonymous
Hey Hoarse, you are really stupid. Who do you think makes the program for the oiling machine ? Oh, yea, the oiling machine god comes down during the night and installs new oiling patterns in the machine. You are clueless. Learn the game before you post such stupid comments.

Comment Date: 5/23/2008 Name: Hoarse
Alright the guy at the bottom doesn’t realize that frenchie has nothing to do with the oiling process unless he is the machanic witch is never. The machine lays down a pre-programed length, width and depth of the oil pattern what ever it may be depending on the day. Further more the only human contact is made when filling the machine with striper, line-a-duster whatever and when its put on the lane itself. Ur going for other balls evrygame because the oil on the lanes breaks down and pushes to different lines depending on the line of the other bowlers. Anyways bowling is not easy man maybe you should try chess if ur gonna keep bitchin’. Stay a sub!

Comment Date: 5/14/2008 Name: Anonymous
This is not a bad place to bowl. The only problem is Frenchie. He can not put down a good league shot. Its different every week. I was only a sub last year, but I did bowl every other week (it seemed) and I was constantly looking for another ball for each game. Overall, the scores in the league were not good, compared to the leagues that i do bowl in. Like I said, nice place to bowl, but the shot needs a lot of work.

Comment Date: 2/22/2008 Name: george
I agree, there is nothing wrong with wearing a mock neck shirt. CCBA has their own issues with lack of entries in their tournaments to worry about mock neck shirts. I feel CCBA should get rid of the “Good Old Boys Club” and start to concentrate an getting people in office that will take bowling back to where it was in th4 past and not worry about what tyupe of shirt you are wearing.

Comment Date: 2/21/2008 Name: ccba unhappy bowler
Ok so first off the pro shop there is horrible, way over priced and the old guy can’t drill or map out a ball for garbage. Second I was bowling next to this kid who had one of those mock neck shirts on, the tournament director came over and was rude to the yopung man about not being able to wear a mock neck. I mean common are we bowling for 100,000 dollars or something? Is it that big of a deal. The pba lets the pros wear mock necks, all i am saying is the ccba needs to get with the times.

As a worker at laurel lanes i’m in the know about the centers around us. All of the leagues have lost bowlers and we’ve been happy to take customers from bristol but its not about the league bowlers its about open bowlers. We try to do the best to accomidate and i think we do it well. We’ve changed our appearence and our attitudes. We just need more money an hour but without open bowlers thers none of that. With no money in ur pocket its hard to keep a good attitude.

Comment Date: 9/26/2007 Name: my name
I have never seen so much complaining about anything like this before….I was going to consider getting myself and my son into a league there, but if this is the atmosphere there, then maybe we’ll look someplace else. I thought being on a league was to just have fun and be with/make new friends…seems some take it a little too seriously.

“Rick or Staff or whatever. I do not believe you work at laurel. I think you are some punk kid who gets off on the internet. the manager at laurel would not hire an idiot like you.” You obviously don’t no the new management there! They’ve been hiring friends the last 2 seasons with no business belonging in the industry. Very unprofessional from the top down in the custmer service department, not saying any different then other centers they are just not as good at hiding it. The center is trying, but you can’t get blood from a stone. And that stone represents Nutmeg Bowl and the blood is anything new for the place. And to reference someones point about bowlers leaving Laurel. They are leaving,in droves! Ask for a league bowler count for the last 4 years and you will see an abnormal drop-off the last 2 seasons. And the parent about the coaching: His name is Butch and you will not find many others more suited to teach bowling, the problem is your child probably s*cks.

I always felt that the kids’ birthday party packages were a great value at Laurel Lanes, but I was turned off with my last experience with X-treme Bowling, where the music was full of obscenities. When I asked an employee if I could get cleaner stuff played, he told me it was all pretaped. I was embarrassed to host a party where that kind of offensive music was played.

Rick, since you are so smart, why don’t you explain it to us dumb bowlers. My comment was being consistant from week to week. Tell me how this new “high tech” oil machine works and why it can not do it at laurel lanes . Also tell me, since I do bowl at Bowl-O-Rama, why their “high tech” oil machine can put down a consistant shot week after week.
Come on, you have the brains and the skill, please explain it !

Comment Date: 6/26/2007 Name: rick league bowlers don’t have a chip on your have logs!! If you knew even a pinch of how a center operates ( also how the new hi-tech lane conditioners work) then MAYBE you would know how to bowl! You have no clue, and all you want is the 250 averages! Get a life!

Comment Date: 6/25/2007 Name: Anonymous
When you bowl in a league, all you can expect is that the lanes will be consistant from week to week. Regardless, if it is good or bad based on your game. Unfortunately, laurel is not consistant. I average well over 200 at laurel and other centers. I do not mind different or harder shots for tournaments, but for league play, they should be close to the same every week. The left side plays very well, week to week. I am not a beginner and know about left to right conditions. I can accept that. BUT why can’t they oil the right side the same every week, at least to start off with !! Thats my problem. And for the other guy thats going to Bristol, I wish him luck. I’m going to Bowl-O-Rama. Also, for you staff guy, I agree, good luck with you new job. With a attitude like yours, you will not be in the bowling business much longer.

Comment Date: 6/22/2007 Name: just a bowler at laurel
Bowling isn’t supposed to be easy. Don’t blame the shot, don’t blame the lanes and don’t go to bristol all the workers there are addicted to something. Bristol doesn’t take anyone from laurel all I hear is complaints about that place.

Comment Date: 6/21/2007 Name: Love taking your bowlers
Hey Anonymous, you will always be welcome at Bristol. We take many bowlers from Laurel every year. Seems like the service in Plainville just keeps getting worse and worse. So if you want to bowl in a place were the lanes dont break every 2 frames, were their isnt dirty all over the approaches and were the shot stays the same, then come over to Bristol.

Comment Date: 6/21/2007 Name: Anonymous
thanks, I’m looking forward to it. It will be nice to bowl at a center where the shot is pretty consistant from week to week and the folks that work there are friendly to the bowlers. It will be a hugh change from laurel.

“be nice to the staff or suffer the wrath”
Wow, Staff, glad I am bowling in Bristol next year and not laurel. Maybe its not the manager but the people that work there.
Sorry, I am (was) a customer, paying good money to bowl. You SHOULD be nice to me. Guess you are just a punk kid trying to be tough on the internet.
With that type of attitude, laurel will be empty before you turn 21.
Good luck with your next job.

“House Bowler” I really wish i knew who you were. You are a bad bowler and like to take out your anger on a person who runs a struggleing bowling alley and a pro-shop. Get rid of your equipment and take up golf. And yo’re one of those people who wanted to be treated like there last customer on earth well guess what you’re not be nice to the staff or suffer the wrath.

“And lastly the manager treats friends like friends because they don’t get on his nerves like so many of you league bowlers.”
This is exactly the problem. Being the manager, he should be friendly with all the league bowler and not just his friends.
Guess you made my point, like I said, very poor customer/league service.

As a memeber of the satff at this center even I say that there are things that need improvement but that could be said about any center, fast food chain or local grocery store. That being said the lanes are oiled regularly and maintained very well. And the shot DOES NOT pander to the leftys of the house. Everybody has their off nites and decides to blame the lane conditioning, when in reallity not everyone of you “pro” bowlers need to change balls (mid game) between the five balls you lug around everywhere. And lastly the manager treats friends like friends because they don’t get on his nerves like so many of you league bowlers. Really now all of you climb down off of that high horse and spend some time in the real world where you don’t push 279 all nite. We treat everyone fair, we work hard and the most importan thing is we have fun doing it.

The shot on the right side is terrible. Leftys have it made there. Talk to the management and thye point out somoeone that is bowling good that night and say the problem is you. Guess it must be me and about 30 or so other right handed bowlers that night. Very poor league/customer service.

As for management I would have to say it’s the fault of the owner who wants to spend nothing and make top dollar.
Its good to see they did put somebody in the position who is not so into himself he can’t see straight.Perhaps now the lane conditions and the way leagues are treated will change so as not to cater to “friends of the management”.
I’m am glad that New Milford is way to far for me to travel to bowl.

The new manager now should stay with the pro shop he is lucky to have and leave managing a bowling alley to someone who knows what they are doing.

Good to see the moron that was manager is gone. The bowling police should ban him from ever running a bowling center, Way TOO MUCH into himself. You the owners should start seeing more business once the word is out. Good Luck.

My kid bowls Saturday mornings and the guy who helps run the desk and coach the kids, I think his name is Batch or Botch, shouldn’t be a coach, I think you need to be a good bowler to help the kids and not make them worse.
