Here, Here to “spends time @ the bowl”. You could not be more correct. The staff is very friendly and pleasant there. It’s amazing that customers feel that it’s okay to act out anyway they want and think that the staff has to take it because they’re the customer. Being the customer doesn’t always make you right. How dare you disrespect the staff and the bowling center and them complain that the staff has a bad attitude. How would that same customer like for a staff member from the bowling center to come to they’re house and tear it up and disrespect they’re family? Think about that next time you feel you can just treat anybody anyway you want with no consequences!

CVB is your basic good Bowling Center to go. The staff there does respect & treat the customers very well, until the customers give the staff a reason to stop respecting them. Treat them badly, chances are you will get it in return, & won’t be invited back. Throwing your bowling shoes & your beer down the lanes at closing time will qualify for dis-respect to the staff by the customers. If you do not like the bowl or it’s staff, PLEASE OH PLEASE FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO GO !!! All respecting people coming in their doors will be repected in return. As for the bowl itself, they offer many bowling specials at a cheap price in comparison to what any entertainment would cost anywhere else. They also have an afternoon/evening Bar for those that like their Alcoholic beverages.

The ladies at the desk can be very sincere when you are an adult but when you are a high school student they look down at you and are very disrespectful.

Now they have fired Ross, one of the best desk men in the business. They are dedicated to having an all female staff, most of whom don’t care. Maintenance remains poor. And now that the owner is out of town for the winter (again) it will probably get worse. Birthday parties are the big money makers here and they can be happy the public likes them.

I had my daughter’s 7th birthday party here on Sunday 6/28/09. The kids had a great time and Emmie the birthday hostess who took care of our party was GREAT!! We will defintitely be back and will recommend their party packages to all my friends.

I am a league bowler at Manor Bowl in San Leandro and I have recently visited Castro Village Bowl. The staff is so much more friendly and helpful there then they are at Manor Bowl. My friends and I went there on Saturday evening. The ladies at the desk were not only friendly and helpful but they made me feel like I was appreciated as a customer. I only wish Manor Bowls employees were so nice. I believe I will be bowling league next fall at Castro Village Bowl instead of Manor Bowl.

We went and bowled the Wild Wednesday bowling special. All you can bowl for 3 hours for $10. Lights, music, and a great atmosphere. We had a blast. The staff was friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely visit Castro Village Bowl again.

CV Bowl is a decent place to bowl. However, the management seems dedicated to driving away the best employees and showing little regard for customers’ wishes. The fiasco with Mary listed in earlier posts, is about to be repeated with the best desk person they have ever had. .When he goes I feel certain that many bowlers will follow him and cheerfully bowl elsewhere.

Comment Date: 7/28/2008 Name: okorimbo
The owners don’t really care about anything but raking in money. The overall attitude of employees, with the exception of Leora and Ross is awful. There is extreme nepotism there with no thought given to customer relations. If it were not for location and the fact that bowlers like and respect Ross and Leora there would be far fewer folks bowling there.

This website would be great if the owners would take the time to review some of the cooments. If you are hearing the samething over and over about your Manager and lady that is rude then you look into that or maybe the owner does not care.

Comment Date: 7/22/2008 Name: Long Time Bowler
The bowl use to be a nice family place but not these days, the manager who use to work the desk is in the bar drinking or on vacation so good luck if she is needed. For the night staff the ladies are so rude or out smoking the young girl have their cell phones out and even friends setting at the desk. This is a Business

I am absolutely appalled at the fact that people actually make rude comments about staff members? Even more so that this website allows it. What a HORRIBLE thing to do. What are we teaching today’s youth…How to talk {deleted}? I guarantee you, as long as the customer smiles, speaks clearly (no slang – of course)and says “please and thank you” (as any mature adult would do) then any and all staff members would in return show the same courtesy. I personally enjoy bowling there and ALL THE STAFF MEMBERS –

We a traveling league and I were in your establishment to bowl lately; We normally bring refreshments to have a get together and bowl. The Establishment’s manager told us to leave the food outside that the only food and refreshments had to be purchased within the establishment. I understand, from this web site and talking to others that you respect to and for other is not business like or met California State Employment laws. Good luck staying in business, I am returning as well as others. Your employees may have to stay for the daily whippings, as a customer I do not.

I was just told about this website because a friend informed me that I was mentioned in a comment.
Yes,it is true that I was fired, in spite of the fact that the management is telling people that I quit. I am not at this time sueing the bowl, but I have filed charges with the labor board who is investigating their labor practices and there is a hearing the beginning of December.
I loved working at the bowl, in spite of the ignorant owners and general manager. The rest of the staff and customers are wondeerful (although I agree with the previous comments about Sandy).
To set the story straight, here is what happened:
I was trying to taking a break, and the owner, Pam came out and yelled at me that taking a break was inappropriate, and to get back to work. This, in spite of the fact that she had not spoken as many words to me in my entire year of employment, and the fact that there were NO CUSTOMERS IN THE BAR-AND HADN’T BEEN FOR TWO HOURS PREVIOUS! At this point, I made it known to staff and management that I was going to go to the labor board to find out my rights. That was on a Monday. On that Thursday we were to have an annual bar meeting and I was going to bring this up. I WAS NOT ALLOWED AT THE MEETING. The following day, I was cut from my best shift (Thursday) and was told by Toni (the GM) that it was “in the best interst of the bowl”. I then filed a claim the following day with the Labor Board. I decided to do exactly what the federal law allows–one 10 min break after 2 hours of work, one 30 min meal break after 4 hours of work, and one 10 min break after 2 more hours of work. Toni then forced me to sign a paper stating I would take my 30 min meal break behind the bar, and that I’d still have to serve customers if they came in (THIS IS NOT A BREAK–DUH!) I was threatened that if I didn’t sign it, I would have my hours cut. The following day, I revoked, in writing, that letter. The next day, upon returning from an 18 min meal break, I was told that I was not allowed to leave the building during a meal break. The next day, my shifts were now cut down from 35-40 hours a week, to 11 hours! I was sick the following two days, called in sick both days, and then was sent a letter terminating my employment due to “job abandonment”. THESE {deleted} TACTICS HAVE GONE ON LONG ENOUGH, AND I AM DOING ALL I CAN TO STOP THEM. A couple of ignorant employees there are blaming me because they are now forced to take a 30 min break and get docked WHICH IS ALSO ILLEGAL!!! If you would like to speak to me at any time, I can be reached at {deleted}. I hold no ill feelings towards anyone that I worked with or any customer (except for {deleted}), who helped bring all this on with her petty jealousies and campaign to get rid of me because I was liked more than she is. If any employee wants to blame me, they should look to little old Mary, who had no problem running to her friend Sandy every time I tried to go to the bathroom in an attempt to get rid of me. Well, it worked, but I CHOSE to go, but I am not really gone now, am I???

Comment Date: 10/5/2007 Name: Candace
I understand the people who commented on the rudeness of the staff-especially Sandy-{deleted}. She is so nasty and racist, and should not be allowed to deal with the public. Ross at the front desk is the nicest one there. The rest just talk to eachother instead of helping customers. BUT, honestly, if the staff is bad it is the fault of the owners-Tex and Pam. THEY DON’T ALLOW THEIR STAFF TO TAKE BREAKS OR A LUNCH. There was this great bartender there named Mary who was nice to everyone and always smiled, and she got fired for taking a lunch break. I heard she is sueing them, and I hope she wins. The owners have lots of money and don’t even treat their employees with any respect, so that’s probably why they’re in bad moods all the time. There is another bartender with brown hair that always seems like she’s on drugs, and the man who works in the bar is always drunk. But who can blame them when they are treated like they are not human. I like to bowl but hate giving those greedy mean owners my money-I hope that Mary girl gets all their money in court and then she can run the bowl and treat people nice.

I like Ross he is my favorite employ…i think that he is the ONLY PERSON who does their job and is always on top of it…he always takes that extra step to help the customers and i highly apreceate that…i ALWAYS look forward to seeing him every wednesday nioght when i go to bowl…if he wasnt there i wouldnt bowl and would tell all my friends not to bowl there because they like Ross just as much as i do

Nice facility, but the staff has real attitude problems. It is sad to see a staff treat paying customers so poorly and expect to maintain a business. Nonetheless, the lanes and facilities are good — worth a few bucks. Just don’t expect service or decent people staffing the lanes. (The owner should really look at his staff!)

We all love C.V. Bowl! Every Wednesday is Karaoke night – cheap bowling, cheap drinks and hot dogs, great karaoke selections and just a fun night. We go practically every Wednesday because we can take teens, hang out with our friends and relax. We cannot praise the staff enough for their tolerance and professionalism because it is busy and demanding at that front desk! We love you guys!

Personally I think that it is immature to blame one person for the cleanliness of a business. I know that Jeremy tries hard at his work so get to know him and whats going on with him before you judge him.

Comment Date: 1/14/2007 Name: Anon
What can you expect though from such well-educated people. It wouldn’t surprise me if she said she didn’t finish school past the third grade. If you are looking for friendly family fun, DO NOT BOWL HERE UNLESS YOU ARE GHETTO FAB!!
As far as those lame specials . . . why the hell have a special going from 11 to 130 when you have to wait in line to register until 12:30? Yeah….great special guys. Why not pre-register people so they can actually bowl during said times. I don’t really think you’re getting your money’s worth when you pay a cover charge to wait in a long a$$ line for the rude lady to count money on her fingers and toes.

who ever wrote the last comment is shady! how are you going to put your own people on blast like that? what would jeremey do if he read what you wrote? and to top it off you didnt have the courage the put your own name, coward!

Comment Date: 1/7/2007 Name: Annonymous
I work at the Castro Village Bowl and I’m sorry that many of you percive the staff as rude and stupid, but you must also consider that, depending on when you are there, there are staff members who do not know how to do certain things because that is not the usual part of their job.
As for Family Specials; I’m not sure if we really have any (I only work weekends as a Party Hostess). I’m sorry, but our prices are fairly reasonable. (I’ve been to many other alleys that charge $6.50 a game, and $4.00 for shoes)
As for cleaning, well, that’s Jeremey’s fault. He’s usually late for work and sometimes just doesn’t come at all, but we can’t replace him until we find someone else who is able to do is job (clean the bathrooms, stock the soda at the par, clean the approaches, etc.) But, by all means, if you feel that you’re willing to do his job, go ahead and apply for it.
As for machines breaking down and balls and pins getting stuck and such, that’s apart of every bowling alley. There’s always the chance of something breaking or getting stuck.

while i tend to agree with last comment on the bathrooms and the general attitude of the employees. i must point out that it is only a small town bowling alley with people that have chosen to make a career out of it, or are waiting through retirement. so the question i pose is, what can you really expect from castro valleys finest?

Comment Date: 11/1/2006 Name: Ann
I used to bowl in several leagues at CV Bowl. It used to be a nice place to bowl, but not anymore. It seems that the staff there is only interested in kids parties and open play. They don’t give a s**t about leagues. Anyone who knows anything about being in a bowling league should know that it is the LEAGUES that are guaranteed every week, NOT the open play and parties. My friends and I got sick and tired of always asking the staff to “please clean the approaches, floor, bathroom, etc”. Do you think they could do that? No, of course not. The desk staff, Toni and Ross, are only there to collect a paycheck, not to run this place. I finished up last year and left for good! I would NOT recommend bowling there…at all.

I love bowling there. I think they need to fix the lanes. I bowl on a league there and it gets really frustrating when the lanes don’t work properly. I think the staff is great, and always willing to help you. Food is ok. Overall I give it a 9.

The staffs are so rude there especially that one fat lady. She got attitudes like dude what is wrong with her?!?!?!?! You guys should really go to albany bowl.. which is near richmond, you take the central ave exit next to the plaza! I LOVE that place! staffs are so cool and funny there. they’re all so friendly. its only $1.00 per game when they have specials! you guys should really check that place out!

I bowl here weekly and the lanes change every week. But that is fine. Service is good and the food is decent. I highly recommend this place on special rates hours.

I really like the bowling alley, I found it to be reasonably priced. The staff is great especially Fred, he is hot. Is he single? I’ll only bowl when he is there, it makes bowling at castro village bowl more exciting.

They need family discount, until then, not me buddy boy.
$4.50 a game + $3.00 for shoes.
With my wife, and 4 kids, it cost me $45 for one game. I Don’t think so…….

Went to the CVBA today with my 3 year old and his 7 & 9 year old cousins. We had a great time. Staff was friendly and price was reasonable. Other posts about rude staff had me a bit concerned but they were great. The place was super crowded but what do you expect for a rainy non-school day.

Comment Date: 11/19/2005 Name: Anonymous
Some of the staff is rather rude, and the food is on the pricey side, but All in All, It is still a great bowling alley, and they have wonderful specials, but they could improve on some things…

The Village Bowling Alley is an institution. The staff are as professional and respectful as they need to be. And the Brass Boar is one of the finest dive bars in Castro Valley, check it out – the first Saturday in October when the Castro Valley Crawl goes through.

You need to run more specials at decent times of the day when convenient for young kids. Also we have found some staff members not to be so friendly. It is also not kept clean.

Comment Date: 2/8/2005 Name: Anonymous
I miss the Coupons! When will you have new ones?

Comment Date: 6/18/2004 Name: Anonymous
Have been here a couple of times. Pins/balls sometimes get jammed but the staff is always friendly and willing to help. Lane prices are pretty cheap if you know when to go ($1.50 games Sundays mornings and Friday late mornings-early afternoons). Would recommend.

I think that Castro Village Bowl is a great way to spend your free time. The building itself is not great looking, but pretty much all bowling alleys look like that. The staff are not very nice, but neither are the staff at the movies, or movie stores. Overall, I think that Castro Village Bowl is great.

Comment Date: 2/13/2004 Name: Anonymous
I found the Lounge staff to be unfriendly and not wanting to serve new people. I would not go back there again.
