I bowl at Fireside every week, sometimes even twice a week. Are there newer, fancier, flashier bowling alleys around? Uh, of course. It’s no secret Fireside wasn’t built this decade. But when you fork over your hard earned dollars to those soulless empty eyed teenagers behind the counter of your local corporate bowling center you’ll get exactly what you paid for- a generic, mundane and extremely over-priced night of trying to avoid the obnoxious teenagers or sloppy drunks on the lane next to you. How does this compare with Fireside? Well first of all, Fireside’s prices are amazing, especially their 9:30 to midnight all you can bowl. Plus the people working there are funny and friendly. Lance, contrary to some of the reviews posted here, is gregarious and fun. Does he have to toss some riffraff sometimes? Yes, and trust me, this only makes your experience more pleasant. Thursday nights you can usually find him in the bar mixing up tasty and interesting cocktails which I can highly recommend. The rest of the staff- Trish, Brittany, Phillip, Erin etc are amusing and helpful. The food is definitely tasty and comparably priced. Finally, at Fireside you’ll find a great mix of patrons, first time customers and every night locals too. You won’t regret taking the time to get to know some of the quirky regulars who call Fireside their bowling home. In conclusion, I have bowled at nearly every bowling alley in the Sacramento area, and my husband and I both love coming here. Try it out and you too may find that Fireside Lanes is right up your alley.

Lance is a jerk. He kicked out a girl one night for being sick in the bathroom. He walked into the woman’s bathroom and threw her out. Didn’t ask what was wrong. Didn’t ask if she was ok. I was told by her friend that she has cancer and she was sick because of that. Lance started calling the cops on her. How can Fireside hire someone so rude and uncaring? Fireside had so many great people working there. People who used to care about others and treat people like family. Lance messed it up for me. I won’t ever go there again and I’ll tell my friends and family not to go there as well. I don’t care how good the prices are.

Finally, the bowling center was purchased by Steve Cook! He has cleaned it up, made some changes and has told everyone that big changes will be coming the next few years. It’s an old place but it looks better than ever, big screen TV’s, awesome pro shop and a great new youth director that used to be a pro like Steve and is on the Team USA. My kids love her enthusiasm. The other lady was a bit grumpy and only cared about certain kids. Fireside is a good old fashioned bowling alley and that’s why people like it.

Alright, Ive been going to this place for a LONG time. So here is my take on the place and business.
First appearance from the parking lot- You think took a wrong turn and ended up in the ghetto…and that’s the day time. If you pull up at night. Expect to see some VERY shady people walking the parking lot and or standing by the door. SO much shady you’ll wish you were CCW’ing (CCW-google it). As soon as you walk in the doors you’ll immediately get the smell, look and feel of an old vintage bowling center, much like the ones our parents bowled at back in the 50’s-60’s. Then you’ll be greeted by just about every person as they look at you up and down.
Security Guard- Alright, if youre like 80 years old then youll feel safe with the 300 pound rent a cop onsite on Friday and Saturday nights. Otherwise, the security agency that rents out the guard is a JOKE! The 300 pound guy wears his thrift store uniform matched with his Wal-Mart wannabe vans perfectly. His 2-3 day unshaved beard goes hand in hand with his uniform. If you cant spot the security guard anywhere just look BEHIND the food counter at the soda machine, thats where youll find him filling up his 10 free drinks throughout the night. No worries here about the guy stopping you, a short 30 foot run and youll lose him as he falls over from shortness of breathor hunger pains.
Seriously, I would stand guard for exchange of free bowling and I look better and I know I have more/better defense, retention training then this guy.
Employees- First no one wears a name tag so you have no idea who youre talking to, it seems to be a distance thing I mean even fast food workers wear name tags. Brittany, it all depends on what day you get her as she seems to be Bi-polar and not always on her meds.
Lisa, I’ve never gotten bad service from her. She smiles and give small talk as Im checking in.She’s a keeper for business.
Lady with dark hair and nose ring (no name I guess) It depends on the day, good service with small talk or bad service with a hand sticking out waiting for money for the lane/shoes. She just does not look friendly ( Im just saying). It’s a total roller coaster with customer service, you don’t know who youre going to get, what their name is and if it going to be a good inviting greeting or a bad negative why am I giving money to this place greeting. The guys who fix the lanes such as dead ball, pins in gutter…well, Ill just say there in the right place because I don’t think at least one of them could get a regular job because he can’t stop going outside for a smoke. Really, a paying customer has to wait until your
20th smoke break is over to get a pin cleared from the gutter. That needs to change.
Manager- Whatever the blonde hair lady name is, I have never seen someone take so much food back into the office so many time before. Its like shes feeding a family back there. The only thing I see more of is here endless drink refills throughout the night.
Lance- Oh my gosh, if you ever wanted to know what gods gift to the world looks likejust wait for Lance to come walking in, this guy acts like hes all that. Fifteen minutes in front of the mirror just to do his hair.
Lanes- most of the lanes seem to be in ok to good shape. There are a few lanes that the wood is wearing down and or just not there. The bumpers do not all work on every lane and if you happen to have a lane with broken bumpers and have kids and choose to have them bumpers up…too bad, they won’t even transfer you to another lane with working bumpers.
The ball returns…wow, I think some of them were carried over from when Fred Flintstone bowled. Ive seen more than one that is held together with industrial tape. The shell on a couple of them are not even attached to the machine, the rubber molding around the ball stop is not attached as the glue is so old it has lost its bond, some of the finger fans do not work. The pin setters seem to be sold old, the tech(used loosely)is banging on at least one each time I go. The turnaround set time is the slowest Ive seen around town (3 others).
Food- The food is good and VERY reasonable in price. I think it’s the best thing the place has going for it. One thing I think they should add is a refillable pitcher of soda for one price such as STRIKES in Rocklin has,12 bucks for all you can drink pitcher of soda….GREAT DEAL.
Bar- don’t drink BUT, it is VERY CLEAR that they do not monitor how much alcohol is consumed by someone there. This becomes clear when on Sunday morning at 9:00AM you walk in and see the lane seating littered with beer bottles and their still drinking. One time a regular customer of theirs drank so much that he lost his keys and looked for them for 30 minutes only to find them in his ball bag. Im just saying…are they that scared of losing customers that they ignore when people are drunk and allow them to keep drinking. Didnt one of the restaurants get sued for allowing a customer to continue drinking knowing that he was drunk. if I remember right, he drover and killed someone.
The owners/managers need to set a limit not only for the safety of human life but for the safety of the business and the other customer who don’t drink and don’t want to hear the vulgar language and gestures that always goes along with drunks, drunks are not the only paying customers they have. It’s just WRONG how they operate that portion.
Bathrooms- well they do what their supposed to do, don’t look nice but they work.
AIR/HEAT – HOLY CRAP, that place s*cks for good ventilation. They have like vans going along with their Mickey Mouse sewer pipe air conditioning and the place is still HOT. There have been days like last week where Im bowling and it feels like the heater is on…NO JOKE.
The ceiling – It’s just wrong, water stained tiles. The entire place looks like it’s owned by a SLUM LORD.
Lane availability- This is where it S*CKS if youre not on a bowl league. If youre going their planning on having a nice night of bowling by yourself or with your family and they have a league bowling…You might as well just turn around and go to STRIKES in Rocklin/Roseville.
it really pisses me off that they do not keep a minimum amount of lanes open for the general public to bowl. Totally not fair to people who cannot afford and want to be on a league.
That’s money that the public is willing to hand over to the business but the business has made a VERY BAD decision to lock out the public and cater to the league instead.
VARY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE and even worse for the locals who have been coming in for years.
Pro Shop- A little small with minimal stock on hand BUT, the two guys are VERY helpful. I HIGHLY recommend checking them out before going to any other pro shop.
Friday night- After 10:00pm the DJ comes in and spits out some good tunes. Dont be afraid to dance while bowling as youll see others doing.
Glow bowl Saturday- good deal on price and the music is good for the younger generation. Dont be shy about dancing while bowling, youll see others doing it.
This post is not bad mouth Fireside lanes, It’s only information being passed onto others who have not experienced the place for themselves and are looking for some pre knowledge on it.
If youre alright with taking your family to a rundown slum lord owned, Shady people in the parking lot, heavy drinkers(drunks) onsite, vulgar language, rude customer service, long waits on lane fixing or re-racking, stained ceilings, hot stuffy building, public blocking of lanes. Then this is your place.
maybe there is a slight chance that the owner(s) will see this and use it as a check list of things to improve upon or at least things to look into to.
It would be nice if the employees wore name tags to give it a little more professional feel and its such a small place and a pillar in the community that the managers should be out of their office and on the floor more to interact with the people. You want a place where everyone knows your name, you want to be able to say hi to the person behind the counter, you want to be greeted with a smile.
Ive seen some suspicious activity going on at the lanes with the employees, people(manager) taking cash out of the food register and handing it to an employee who puts it in their pocket and leaves. Pitchers of beer being given out with no cash being taken, free food being given out.
Update to this. I just heard that a new owner took over the lanes. I sure hope hes not one that gets played by the current employees, there is a lot of cleaning house that should be done and Im talking about employees. Supposedly this new owner has big plans for the lanes but, it wont matter how big the plans are if nothing changes with the employees.

What a filthy place! Employees are rude and lazy. Too many vagrants and not a safe neighborhood. Not a good place for families or kids.

The league’s are great the junior program is the best around with the best junior coach I have ever seen. If you are looking to get your kids into bowling this is the place hands down… The only downfall to fireside lanes are the bathrooms are nasty you might as well go outside cuz it’s cleaner then the bathrooms in this place and the snack bar food s*cks and is way over priced!!! I give it a 3.5 stars out of 5 only for the junior program :):)

Went on a Saturday afternoon, 4/25. Yes, they are wood lanes (which I love) and are kept up well (though lanes 21 and 22 need a little TLC a coupla feet past the foul line). Prices were very reasonable and Ken at the desk was swell. Recommended!

Fireside is my favorite bowling alley ever. Hands down. Plus it’s tough to find wood lanes anymore instead of the synthetic stuff.

I’ve been bowling for over forty years and have visited countless bowling centers during that time. Fireside Lanes is one of the very best I’ve ever seen. It’s not the fanciest, most up-to-date center by any means. But its lineage rates are incredible; its junior program, run by one of the finest bowling coaches in the world, is second-to-none; and its adult scratch and handicap leagues are wonderful, including the formidable Steve Cook Classic league featuring PBA legend Steve Cook and PWBA legend Leanne Barrette! This is a place that treats bowling less like just a business than as a genuinely respectable sport and even a lifestyle. If bowling is more than just a casual fling to you or your children, or even if it isn’t, check out Fireside Lanes, and you should quickly realize how blessed you are to have found this inconspicuous but glorious bowling treasure.

I bowled here for years. The lanes and house got a much need renovation from great new owners. However the staff who works there is really rude. It’s been like this for awhile. I think with some fresh faces help the place out this would be a great place. I witness one of the staff members trying to pick a fight out in the parking lot with some guy and the guy just walked away. Hopefully that doesn’t happen again.

The best thing aboiut fireside is Sunday-Thursday 9:30pm-1am is unlimited bowling for 5$ -thats a deal! The only problem I have is the lane seating, it is not good for two different groups with two lanes next to each other.

This is one spectacular bowling alley, the atomosphere is friendly and the Arcade is exciting. The Karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays in the Fireside Lounge is really exciting as well. I agree with the other poster about how Fireside Lanes is continuing to improve. Also the cafeteria food is wonderful as well! Give it a try! You can’t go wrong.

Hoping this is the family owned bowling center that has a man by the name of Rich working with you that is part of your family!! If so I have lost all info on him. Thank you – Lucy

This place has really come a long way. The place is clean , the food is excellent , and the DDR Machine is really really neat. I can now call the place I live in again.. Home and not have to travel all over the place for a decent arcade.
Overall Thumbs Up!
