I bowled at AMF on Monday nights for years. It has a great set-up for tournaments and events because of the “pit” layout.
But the place was poorly run (front desk personnel) and years of neglect. Food (and service) was terrible aside from over-priced. We eventually left.
The lane conditions were noticeably consistent and fair during the high school girls season (Nov – Febr). They were usually ok, but some nights were terrible. I heard the HS coaches have their own person setup & run the lane conditioning machine. The center staff re-conditions the lane but don’t touch the adjustments.

Unfortunately, this house has had a long time reputation of being a dump. Recreational bowlers may not care, but serious bowlers do.
The only reason that tournaments or leagues use this place is that I have heard they discount lineage so deep, it looks attractive for reducing costs. But what good is cheap lineage if the lanes are poor and you really want a level playing field.
Part of this house’s problem is that it is a “corporate house”. The suits at AMF Corporate HQ probably don’t bowl since it is a “blue collar” sport. (They probably stick their collective management noses up in the air while playing golf- a “white collar” sport.) AMF HQ trashed and sunk (closed) Valley Lanes in North Aurora, IL due to poor business practices and NOT knowing their market. I guess that they will close this place too when they have milked every last penny out of it without actually trying to improve the place by re-investing in the place. SAD! SAD! SAD! NO excuses, please! |
