Well, it’s pretty much a DEAD deal… KSBE wants too much to lease the old bowling alley to Anderson Co. So the prospective investors have pulled their application for the liquor license and all negotiations are DONE. Don’t count on Waialae Bowl being back in operation. I belive McDonald’s next door has plans to expand.

Please re-open Waialae.

The word is that KSBE wants to do minimal repair work, but it would be sub-standard repairs to the structure. The management co would have to pay for the rest of the R&M.; Also, the design team from the mainland had no clue on what they were doing. I seriously doubt they will hit their re-opening date. I wouldn’t be surprised if the management co backed out of this deal with KSBE, esp since the economy started to tank.

As far as customer service goes at Waialae Bowl…I do remember that it was horrible! The treatment on the phone, to the in your face service was very unprofessional…even if it’s just an old alley. You expect when you’re in the service industry to WANT to be there to help people…no matter what the job. From Waiters to Mail clerks, you are there because of the people walking through your doors. Even though the service s*cked bowling balls, I went anyway beacuse I love bowling and I live in the area. I hope that they do re-open the alley because it’s a great family place and it has been there for years. A new look and modern alley would be great for the community with a pro shop, Bar and food. Just like Aiea Bowl would be such a good thing…of course with a great staff who cares! ~Aloha

You might want to check out the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and the Honolulu Advertiser from a few months ago. KHNL News 8 also had a story about Waialae Bowl reopening near the end of the year.

Regarding the Waialae Bowl space, I was informed that the space has not been leased and no committments were made.

Waialae Bowl is going to re-open later this year with Adam Apo running thing. When, I’m not too sure, but it will be before Pali Lanes Closes.

mr. kaimukian, there must have been something wrong with you…when i take my class there too bowl the desk clerk was more than helpful. he would get the light balls for my class and he found them on the ball racks!!! the kids enjoyed talking too him, he joked around with them and made them laugh. what are you teaching you 8yr old by saying (if you can call him a man) and (fat dude) by the way you sound in you letter you must have came in with an attitude and i wouldnt blame them if they werent too happy too have you there. if you want to be treated with respect you must first treat others with respect. the desk clerk has always treated me and my students with kindness and respect. i hope you are not teaching your child too make fun of other people just because they might be “fat” cause im “fat” you are setting a very bad example for you child

The bowling alley is OK, its the people UNFORTUNATLY that are (if you call it working) there at the counters (when they are around the counter area) I took my 8 year old child to bowl there, and EVERYBODY said that there ARE light balls behind the counters, BUT NO the (if you can call him a man) told us that all the light balls are on the rack already! Funny how EVERYONE who bowls there (I seen a former coach) said the same thing “try ask them for light balls”. Which I replied, “he said that they’re all out on the racks” oh well, go figure for such ‘helpful’ people who would want to accomidate a young child!!NOT!! I am SO DISAPPOINTED in the staff (fat dude) that I guess need to run the place! I would go on and on but I can see by ALL these NEGATIVE comments that it’s NO use! SAD!! BATCHI to the owners and the staff for running the place as they do!

this bowling alley needs to be closed down. the people answering the phone arent friendly at all, and they seem to never have lanes open. also, the facilities are horrible, and many of the balls and lanes are damaged.

just called and the person answering wasn’t friendly at all – like he really didn’t have the time answer my question which was – from what time do you have open lanes this evening? – No!
guess maybe they should close up since they are so unfriendly and unhappy.

This place s*cks, rude staff members and useless information.

I agree with all those saying this place has rude staff. I just called to inquire about open lanes and was promptly told, “not tonight, it’s league night” and then the employee proceeded to hang up on me, even though I was in the middle of asking what nights might be free. Argh. I gave them a chance, but I guess some things never change…

Terrible. S*cks. Gross Stinky. This was the worst alley I have ever been to. It should be tore down. It’s falling apart anyways. Terrible experience. Rude people. I will never go back.

Wow, I thought I would do a search and found this site. I haven’t bowled there in over 20 years. I do have some strange history with the place. Like from 40 years ago. I used to go there every week with my brother as he was in a bowling league. I was about 7 years old. I remember the restaurant that was there before McDonald’s. It was kind of like a diner. They had the BEST hamburger I have ever had in my life. The counter lady was so nice. She would let my brother and me have a burger and a soda and wait to charge my mom when she came to pick us up.
I also have a very bad memory from that time. One of the janitors that worked there locked me in the janitor’s closet once until I cried loudly and he let me out. I also remember ( I’m sure it was before the “closet incidence” ) sitting on his lap. I remember him putting his finger inside my panties. I never told anyone but I still remember it like it was yesterday.
Unfortunatly, there are bad people out there. He is probably no longer living. I hate to think about who else he might have molested.

one of the workers there a lady i asssume was SO rude. Because she was hard of hearing or something she tells me finally after 3 times of asking the same Q “finally you say something” and hangs up. And just for the record i date one of the employees so if you want ur reputation to up hold i suggest u get a hearing aid or maybe an attitude adjustment. Because just for the record no one thinks so highly of “HOW HARD YOU SUPPOSEDLY WORK” bottom line, oce your gone lady ….sorry to say no one gives a s*!t! have a better day and treat your customers nicer and yes the lady was OLDER

I called to see what time they close tonight and the lady said, “I dunno you have to ask Tatsu. He works at 5.” Don’t they have a closing time? I guess not. From other comments it was probably the same lady that people had problems with. Maybe we gotta bribe her with some McDonalds in order to get a straight answer!

i don’t know what everybody is saying under there cause ive been there plenty of times and there is always someone there at the counters. And ive actually bowled there twice and the lady and the man there was nice to me and my friends. And of course you wouldn’t ask the person at the counter to teach you to keep score, your sapposed to ask a person next to you or who is also bowling cause they actually know what there doing. When you come and bowl the workers there predict that you already know how to do this. i mean what time do you go and bowl there and why would you wait there for 20 minuets just to bowl ever heard of going to the mall and come back later?? der

don’t bowl here! it is probably the least helpful, rudest and most pathetic collection of employees i’ve ever seen. i you do decide to go, there will probably be no one at the counter – look to your right and you’ll see a large woman eating fast food and trying not to make eye contact with you – she is actually the one you need to talk to but good luck trying to drag her out of that chair so she can get you some shoes.
GO TO AIEA BOWL instead!

I just called to find out times and prices and the gentleman that answered the phone was very rude. Needless to say I went to a differnt bowling alley. Its unfortunate because I have a family of six and we live right here in Kahala.

My family and I 0ent in to Waialae bowl, and I was looking for a front desk worker, no one was there. So we sat and waited and waited for 20 minutes, watching and waiting for an employee to walk to the desk area, noticed some big woman playing mega-touch, I saw her when we came in but she was talking to a friend and playing at the same time. By that time I told myself if that’s the front desk clerk I’m going to walk out pissed.

The man at the control desk is very rude. When we went to bowl, we didn’t know that we had to keep our own score. We had asked him politely if he could teach us to take our own score he said “I can, but it ain’t like you will understand.” He was downright rude and very abrupt. They definitely need more courteous employees, because they are not friendly at all. On top of that he wanted to overcharge us for our games. I am unhappy with their customer service.

I think they need to hire courteous, friendlier people at the desk because that guy who mans the counter is a grouch. Every time you ask him questions, he rushes you off the phone. He obviously doesn’t need business at his center with that attitude.
