Who really cares whether its called an alley or a center, for the people who bowled there and really enjoyed it i think they would like a straight answer as to if and when it will be rebuilt.I think it would be great for the owners to let everyone know,it has been greatly missed

Comment Date: 10/18/2011 Name: Anonymous
You’ve never heard of a bowling alley? Also, how does a part time employee calling it an alley instead of a center have any indication on future building plans? Eric and his father were an asset to SWTP, and your sad attempt at confrontation will be ignored and forgotten

Comment Date: 8/13/2011 Name: Anonymous
Hey Eric, its not an alley but a center. If you want to bowl in an alley, go find some space between two large buildings in Hartfor and have at it. With comments like this, it no doubt that it will be a long time before they rebuild.

Comment Date: 7/28/2011 Name: Eric
If you’ve bowled on the weekends at SWTP then you’ve seen me before. I bowled friday nights and closed the alley on both fridays and saturdays. Though its hard to disagree with some peoples perceptions about some much needed renovations, I can assure you with about 90% certainty that we will be back for the 2012 season, and better than ever before. We will be a palace in comparison to every other alley in New England. I won’t be returning but my father “Bob #2” will be, and there is nobody better at taking care of the bowlers than he is. See you all next season!

It’s obvious profits before people. Fortunately no one was killed or seriously injured because the lawsuits would’ve bankrupted the business. So true of the arrogance of the affluent.

Comment Date: 5/4/2011 Name: The Bob’s finally have a good bowling alley!
Hey…if you want to talk to the owners go to AMF Silver lanes they bowl there on Thursday nite. I guess if you cant beat them join them.

Comment Date: 3/16/2011 Name: Anonymous
The place is being rebuilt, but Bob is being Bob. Its being rebuilt as cheap as possible !

Comment Date: 2/8/2011 Name: Anonymous
Yes this place was in dire need of some updating, but it was still a fun place to go bowling and have a few cheap beers. If you want to do upscale bowling go to Foxwoods and pay the big $$$$ to do it there. This place was OK in my books. Hopefully the place will be rebuilt and back in business soon.

Melanie…….Looks like you’re not bowling anywhere anymore…

Comment Date: 2/6/2011 Name: Anonymous
Just another case of an owner taking all the money out of a place and never putting anything back into the business. Certainly not a surprise, but it will put a lot of stress on the remaining bowling centers to serve displaced bowlers.

Comment Date: 2/4/2011 Name: Roof
Let’s be honest….none of us should be totally surprised by the events of yesterday…..that roof has been leaking for years. It will be sad to to see another bowling alley go if its not repaired.

Comment Date: 2/3/2011 Name: Current Bowler
Well it seems as if the renovations on the inside should have been saved until they were able to fix the roof that has been in need of repair for years. The roof officially caved in today – lanes 1 – 20 GONE!

SOUTH WINDSOR Emergency crews are on the scene of a roof collapse at a bowling alley on Route 5.
People were evacuated from the South Windsor 10 Pin Bowling Alley, 95 John Fitch Blvd. Thursday morning after structural issues were discovered in the building’s interior, said Sgt. Scott Custer of the South Windsor police.
At about 5:15 p.m., after the business was closed and awaiting inspection, a portion of the building collapsed. The building was unoccupied and there were no injuries, Custer said.
Utility companies are being called to the scene to disconnect the gas, water and electrical lines.

Comment Date: 2/3/2011 Name: stoke on ramp
It doesn’t matter what anybody thinks of SWTP anymore, the roof collapsed at SWTP earlier today.

Comment Date: 2/3/2011 Name: Anonymous
Great Friday Night Karaoke DJ! Other than that the place doesn’t really have anything going for it.

Comment Date: 1/22/2011 Name: Anonymous
You are right, it does not look like chucky cheese, just a time warp back into the 60’s. If you want to relive the 60’s, then you will like this place. It is a real dump !

Comment Date: 1/12/2011 Name: Anonymous
I bowl at South Windsor Ten Pin weekly, it’s one of the few Bowling Center’s left that doesn’t look like a chucky cheese on the inside, anywhere else i go bowling feels like i’m going to a 3 year old’s birthday party!!!

Comment Date: 12/28/2010 Name: Anonymous
Yea, I was there that day. 2 busses broke down in front and all the passengers went inside until the busses were fixed. BUT, I say no one bowling, just drinking.

Comment Date: 12/8/2010 Name: Having Fun
Just wanted to let everyone know that I was at SWTP the other day it was packed. The lanes, the bar and the snack bar. A new snack bar was being installed. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. A short time ago I bowled in the Greater Hartford’s 500 Women Club Tournament’s and we were treated warmly and had a great tournament and time. Keep it up..

Comment Date: 10/23/2010 Name: Anonymous
The place is a dump and the owner is an idiot. Lets end it on that !

Comment Date: 9/25/2010 Name: Anonymous
I’m going to agree with the lack of renovations. Ceiling paint peeling, carpeting worn out, pins have not been replaced in years as most sound hollow when you hit them. Can’t put out a shot to save his life. Then there are the scoring system that breaks down, the pinsetters that break down, the ball returns that break down…etc etc.
Places needs to be sold to someone who will truly take care of it.

Comment Date: 9/8/2010 Name: JJ
Renovations ?? What renovations ? You people must be blind or mentally unstable. The place is a DUMP and the owner should sell it to someone that knows how to run a bowling center. Not only is he clueless but he also needs to shower at least once every few days. The mans stinks !

Comment Date: 6/9/2010 Name: Michael
Love this center! Had the greatest time I’ve had in years!

Comment Date: 6/9/2010 Name: Melanie
This bowling alley is EXCEPTIONAL. Before I went bowling, I read the comments about south windsor ten pin, and i honestly was scared. However, the people there are so friendly. They arent cheap at all! They just spent tons of money on renovtions, which by the way look amazing. I love SOUTH WINDSOR TEN PIN:) and i wouldn’t bowl anywhere else.

Comment Date: 2/3/2010 Name: daughter of south winsor ten pin
SWTP is the best bowling center i know. it offers many things that other centers don’t. if you hate it so much, then why do you go there? cuz i know you do-if you didn’t,you wouldn’t know enough about it to talk crap about it. SWTP doesn’t like haters, so, why don’t you bowl somewhere else to bowl.

Comment Date: 10/4/2009 Name: PRO 1
I have read all the comments and I think most of the people hit it on the nail far as Dirk he is a jerk. He spends to much time with a person on teaching them about what a ball should do and what they should do. And all the time there is about ten people waiting to get there ball drilled. He is the ONLY person that make you wait Hours or weeks to put THREE HOLES IN A BALL
and then charge you Top dollar to hear him talk.
P.S. He S*CKS in bowling anyway Stick to drilling and Shut UP

Comment Date: 6/2/2009 Name: Anonymous
Hey Richard, easy on the drugs. The place is a dump and so is the snack bar.

Comment Date: 5/31/2009 Name: Richard
This place is incredible!! The lanes are amazing, the people are so sweet, and their snack bar is DELICIOUS. Red robin PALES in comparison to their delicious cheeseburgers. And they got rated very high in their snack bar. YOU HAVE TO GO THERE! It really is so much fun.

Comment Date: 5/7/2009 Name: Anonymous
Your grammar is so bad that I could not even understand your point. Nice try though. Stay in school!

Comment Date: 5/6/2009 Name: Anonymous
Bowler, can Dirk put 3 holes in the ball, yes he can and he will charge you for everyone one but will you invite him to your house for dinner, I doubt it because he is a jerk unless you are also.

Comment Date: 4/20/2009 Name: richie
Bowler I agree with you about Dirk. He drills a good ball. He is just kinda annoying.

Comment Date: 4/12/2009 Name: bowler
hey try bowling at Holiday Bowl in Groton if you want to see a dump. The lanes chew bowling balls, they never clean, no lane maintenance, back ends s*ck. Balls come back after one roll filled with belt marks. You don’t know how good you have it in S Windsor. As far as Dirk Ridley goes.. He is the best. Go to Groton if your unhappy. They drilled my balls all wrong. Have some Cheese with your wine. Never brought my little one down to the lanes. Its not a place for them.

Comment Date: 3/4/2009 Name: Anonymous
This is the arm pit of centers in central CT. The lanes are horible and the owner is rude. Then you have Mr Know It All in the pro Shop. Put changing tables on all the lanes and make it a day care. Its definetly a dump of a bowling center.

Comment Date: 3/1/2009 Name: haha
I agree it isn’t the responsibilty of the center to put in changing tables why don’t u do what every1 else does and find a babysitter no1 wants ur brats breaking the equipment and screaming all nite

Comment Date: 2/26/2009 Name: Anonymous
Will you mothers just go away !

Comment Date: 2/12/2009 Name: Hey! Another mother!
Hey maybe3 its a pain in the behind to dress your kids up just to bring them from the bowling allies out to your car for a 5 min. changing. Wow you guys are arguing about something the bowling alley should have. THATS A CHANGING TABLE IN THE BATHROOM!!!! DUHHHHH. You guys are not the smartest parents in the world or you are the owners of south windsor ten pin. To cheap to put a changing table in. I hate cheap people. I guess I will not bring my son out any where any more because I cant change him any where but muy car. Thats crazy. Oh ya by they way south windsor is not the first place I have changed my son on a table. Have you guys ever changed your kids on a table before?

Comment Date: 2/11/2009 Name: Another Mother
Oh please! If its too cold to take your baby out in the car, then why are you taking your baby to a bowling center in the first place? And just because people do it all the time doesnt mean its the right thing to do. Sounds like you have some growing up to do. Seriously, please learn to be a responsible parent.

Comment Date: 2/11/2009 Name: Hey! Disgusted.
U cant be a mother because I know a responsible mother wouldnt bring there kid outin a freezing car to change them. Wow name calling, thats right. u r ignorant for not knowing where people have to change there kids in a bowlingalley when there are no changing tables. People do it all the time and if you didnt know they do make plastic mats that go under the kids when you do change them. Thats so the kids dont get sick and dirty from people like you! O ya I forgot, u are a mother u know everything so u should know they make mats for your kids. By the way my son is 7 months old and im not going to bring him out in this weather just to change him. So get a clue, I feel bad for the kids u raise!

Comment Date: 2/10/2009 Name: Disgusted!
To the last 2 comments: Sure, it’s cold right now, it’s winter! But it’s not always cold. And I gave several suggestions to handle the problem. I agree that it would be best to have changing tables in the bathrooms, but when they don’t, please don’t use tables where people eat to change your baby! There are alternatives. And you want me beaten just for suggesting that parents behave in a responsible manner?! Just for the record I’m a mother and a grandmother. I have plenty experience with babies and young children, thank-you-very-much! I stand by my comments. By the way, I’ll alert the owner of South Windsor Bowl that you intend to wipe poop all over the table, that’s sure to bring in more customers! Instead of finding a solution you resort to threats and name calling – real mature. I’m just saying….

Comment Date: 2/7/2009 Name: Hey! Disgusted.
U must not have a kid. From the3 looks of it it seems like you are about 15 years old. When u have a kid some day you will learn that you dont want to take your kid out in this freezing weather to change them in a car! Oh ya by the way thats y south windsor going in the dumps, they don’t cater to the people. From my knowledge I think most people have kids. If they didn’t there would b no one lefft on earth. O ya. Bowling is one of the highest particapation sports in the world. so u know people that have kids might like to bowl. And not every one can always get a babysitter. And to your comments to the other person with a kid, where will they change them if there are no changing tables and if they cantt do it on a table. Im sure not going to do it on the dirty floor. ill make sure next time to wipe some of that poop all over the table for u. mayb u will stop going to the bowling alley u ignorant idiot. Mayb u shopuld think b4 u speak next time! thank u.

Comment Date: 2/5/2009 Name: To Disgusted!
Apparently you haven’t been outside your cave lately and seen that the temperature has been in the teens for say…the past 3 months. Change a baby in the car at these temperatures??? Someone should beat you silly for even thinking that. Child services should be on the lookout for you!!!

Comment Date: 2/4/2009 Name: Disgusted!
Umm, maybe you can change your baby in the car? Or in an out of the way corner of the center? Or leave your baby with a babysitter? Just please, please don’t change your baby’s wet and poopy diapers on the tables!! Do you have any idea how unsanitary that is?! Do you bother to wash your hands afterwards, or do you touch everything with your poopy hands too? Ewww!! On second thought – why don’t you and your baby just stay home?! I’m just saying….

Comment Date: 1/27/2009 Name: Just a thought…
It would be nice to see the alley put in the flip down changing tables in the bathrooms. Its a shame when other people give you dirty looks when you change your baby on the tables people eat at, but what other choice do parents have when they come to bowl and have an infant with them.

Just heard from a friend of mine that knows Bob very well. He said Bob is hurting for money and the place may be up for sale of returned back to Doc. Not sure what the financial arrangement was with Doc. If you bowl here, you can tell he’s broke. Hope the next owner fixes the place up and updates the building.

Comment Date: 11/4/2008 Name: Anonymous
When were the 82-70’s installed ?

Comment Date: 10/30/2008 Name: Anonymous
No – South Windsor opened with AMF 82-30s. They have installed 82-70s along the way.

I will say it again, if the lanes and the management are so great, then why are the bowlers leaving ?? The machines have been there since the place opened over 30 years ago and the lanes are half synthetic because they were down to the nails and could not be resurfaced. furthermore, the great management threw out the best snack bar I’ve seen in a bowling center. I know, you are there to bowl and you are oblivious to everything else around you. The truth is, Bob bought the place with no money and it shows. You probably like the lanes because you can hook the ball, Well with wood backends, everyone hooks the ball and most of the time too much. As I said in an earlier post, if you like the place so much then bowl there, its your choice but view it for what it is.

Comment Date: 10/6/2008 Name: To all you Anonymus Bowlers
I ask you again. What does it matter what the appearance of the house looks like? Do you bowl on the concourse? The lanes themselves are in decent condition and the house conditions them pretty well, well enough for me to average over 220. When the new management took over a couple years ago, they had their work cut out for them. They have done pretty well with phase 1, which was to get the lanes in good shape because that is the primary concern with a bowling alley. Would you rather they made it look pretty and the lanes were terrible??? That would just not make good business sense, now would it?

Comment Date: 10/3/2008 Name: bowler1 answer
Dirk is not buying Vernon to get out of South Windsor. He is getting into Vernon and keeping South Windsor. Both will be operational and his other pro shop will just be very limited hours.

If they are doing such a fine job, then why are bowlers leaving ? Get your head out of your butt and look around, the place is a dump and will probably be closing soon. All this will happen because “the management is doing a fine job”. You are really clueless.

Comment Date: 9/26/2008 Name: To all you Anonymus Bowlers
If you don’t like the house get the {deleted}. Stop your B**chin’ and complaining and just go somewhere else. I bowl there multiple nights and have yet to shoot under 650 this season. The owners may not have invested much (as of yet) to update the appearance but I don’t bowl for the appearance of the house. The lanes themselves are in good shape, conditioned regularly and the staff is willing to cooperate with the average league player. They even stated they would put out whatever shot the league decides on. How much more customer service could you ask for? Out of all the houses in Connecticut that I have bowled in, I would rank this in the top 5, along with Silver, Laurel, Bowl-O-Rama and Circle.
Keep it up Management. You guys are doing a fine job.

Comment Date: 9/25/2008 Name: bowler1
Rumor has it that Dirk is trying to get into the proshop at vernon lanes. Must tell you something. He is trying to get out before it shuts down. They lost roughly 70 teams this season. To me, that tells the story of things to come. They did some work to the place, painting and small stuff. But the place is still the same old SWTP falling apart. Roof has leaked for years, you would think someone would want to fix it. That just one out of many other problems there. They should demolish it and start from scratch. Back to the Dirk wanting to go to vernon lanes. For all of you vernon bowlers get ready to pay higher prices for equipment if it happens. He is 40 dollars more on your high end balls then any other shop in the area. And you cant tell me that its because he is good. He thinks a weight hole will fix anything. He told me one day that my ball is drilled wrong and It was just after I shot 300, it was because he didnt drill it.

Comment Date: 9/21/2008 Name: Anonymous
Yea, I bowl there and this place is turning into the arm pit of bowling centers. I’ll probably end up at Silver next year.

Comment Date: 9/14/2008 Name: Anonymous
Word on the street, this place is in trouble. They lost leagues and bowlers to Silver. Anyone know anything about this ?

Comment Date: 1/22/2008 Name: John
Dude, do you own stock in South Windsor ? Its a run down bowling center, if you like it like that then bowl there, its your choice. Just stop being stupid by comparing it to the better centers in the state. Its not close. And Yes, I have bowled tournaments in most of the centers in CT. Compare it to Berlin Bowl, who knows, you may win that one.

Comment Date: 1/22/2008 Name: Pete
I am not in love with the owners of Bowl-O-Rama, but they did invest a bunch of money in the place and it looks great. I have been in South Windsor bowling tournaments and there is no comparison. South Windsor needs a lot of improvements. Lanes are not oiled, machines are old and break down often and the place just looks run down. Not sure why you love the place so much but since you bowled in all the centers in CT, as you stated, you obviously need to have your eyes examined.

Comment Date: 1/19/2008 Name: Chris
I didn’t say that I did not like Bowl-0-Rama, I said that it’s ok and that there is nothing special about it. Where else have you bowled? Or are you so much in love with B0R that you never venture out to any other houses. I’d like to know what you find so endearing about Bowl-0-Rama. Maybe it’s so close to where you live that you can stagger home after a night on the town.

Comment Date: 1/19/2008 Name: John
Wow, to compare South Windsor with Bowl-o-Rama and say Bowl-O-Rama is not a good center, yu have to be kidding. The owners of Bowl-)-Rama just invested over 2 milion dollars in upgrades and the plac looks great. They also have one of the best and consistant shots in the state. South Windsor is a dump. The owners invested enough money to keep the place open, but thats it. Chris, dude, whatever, mentally, you are not playing with a full deck. Go see a doctor and get a check up, you need it.

Comment Date: 1/18/2008 Name: Anonymous
Hey Chris, Go bowl at SWTP. Who cares !!!!!
You do not like Bowl-O-Rama, well thats your problem and you should post it on their section not here. Good luck at SWTP and hope you like very dry back ends, again because you are so experienced and bowled in ALL the centers in CT. you should have no problems winning the tournament. You are a joke !

Comment Date: 1/18/2008 Name: Chris
Please let me know what Bowl-0-Rama has that makes it such a great place to bowl? I’m dying to find out! If Mr. Anonymous had any creditability, he wouldn’t be Mr. Anonymous.

Comment Date: 1/17/2008 Name: Chris
I have yet to bowl at SWTP. The USBC Mixed Team Challenge will be there on March 16. I am bringing 2 teams in to bowl. Fortunately I have bowled at Bowl-0-Rama. If this is the place on the turnpike, Mr. Anonymous has got to find a better place to bowl. B0R is not as awesome of a place to bowl as he is making it out to be. I would give B0R an average rating. I have bowled all over central Connecticut (SuperBowl, Bristol 10-pin, SpareTime, Laurel Lanes, Berlin Bowl, Bradley Bowl, etc…) and feel Mr. Anonymous is just being disputatious. I can’t wait to bowl at SWTP in the USBC Mixed Team Challenge. I enjoy bowling at any house to see what they have to offer. Hopefully Mr. Anonymous has bowled at other places other than B0R and SWTP.

Comment Date: 1/3/2008 Name: Charles
I bowled here for the first time since the new owners took over and sorry to see, the place still needs a lot of work. The owner did put some money into the place, but it is still a very dirty looking place. I will not be bringing my kids here anymore.

Comment Date: 11/22/2007 Name: Anonymous
I think the comments about Bowl-0-Ram is not about being easy, but that they are consistant from week to week and place looks fantastic, modern and up to date. Unlike South Windsor.

Comment Date: 11/20/2007 Name: bowler
When you say things like “great center like bowl o rama” multiple times it kind of makes it obvious what your intent is. And it’s obvious your a huge fan of “walled up” or “adult bumper bowling oil patterns and the bloated scores you get as a result. I’ve bowled at many different places around the country and every time I go to bowl o rama I’m amazed how easy it is. I feel like I have 10 baords room for error… I’m not saying its a bad thing, actually there arent many places I don’t enjoy bowling at… but as a person who takes bowling seriously I would never demand the oil pattern be the easiest possible pattern. You should really look into joining a pba experience league… I guarantee you will get better at adjusting/hitting your target and your complaining about oil will stop. Good luck!!!

Comment Date: 11/18/2007 Name: Employee
I could be wrong, but I don’t think you were present for the conversations had with the USBC employees. So, to attempt to predict what they did or did not say is rediculous. Me caring about the place I work at is not “me being in love with the place,” nor is it a problem. I’m sorry you’re so negative, and I hope whatever is not going so well in your life turns around. The center will go on without you and I’m sorry we disappoint. Hopefully the next disgruntled customer will simply confront us, rather than fuming anonymously online. Good luck, and enjoy your thanksgiving.

Comment Date: 11/16/2007 Name: old bowler
if everyone kept there word on not coming back to bowl, there would be no bowlers. so please stop saying that you are going somewhere else to bowl, because when you go to that other center you will complain about it just as much.

Comment Date: 11/13/2007 Name: Anonymous
SWTP needs to be improved. By the way, USBC does not monitor your lanes, yes they will certify them once per year and come in to re-check them ocassionally. All they say is they passed or did not pass. There is no near perfect score as you mentioned. Bottom line is you are in love with the place and that is your problem. Good bowling centers like Bowl-O-Rama do not get trashed only dumps like SWTP. My team will be going somewhere else next year. This conversation is over

Comment Date: 11/5/2007 Name: Employee
If you wanted to help keep the center open, you most certainly would not spend so much time trashing it a bowling center rating website. Since you sound like a current league bowler, please come speak with the owners, or someone who works the desk, like myself. We are more than open to suggestions. However, this type of slander is only hurting our business we work so hard for.
Also, in repetition of my first post: just because the backends are wood, does not mean they are dry. I’ll have you know, USBC monitors our lane conditions, as they do all other houses, and as of last checkup, we were one of the closest to perfect they knew of.
Please, if you have a problem, we’d love to know. Anonymously bashing us online, although it may feel empowering to some, gets nothing positive accomplished.

Comment Date: 10/24/2007 Name: Anonymous
I get the feeling that I am talking to a 8 year old. Read my post a bit slower and maybe you will understand it.
I want to keep Ten Pin open and not close down. The current lane conditions will drive people away. I am not calling you any names and stop acting like little kid (unless you are one).
Open you eyes or ask you father to take you to a different bowling center and compare, especially Bowl-O-Rama. Where there are good lane conditions, the bowlers will come, where there are bad lane conditions, the bowlers will leave. that is todays game !!
like someone else already said, you do not want to take you $200 ball and see it ruined in a few weeks. The owner knows how to correct the problem, if we all keep on complaining, he might listen and fix it. bowling in a dry wood (backend) house does not make you a good bowler, only a very stupid one.

Comment Date: 10/23/2007 Name: fed up
im annoyed with all the negativity on this site. SWTP is the best bowling alley in the area. period. if you don’t agree, don’t bowl there every week… just head over to bright nights in vernon.

again, if it such a dump why come back to it? what kind of scrubs waste their time voting the bowling alley down? since when were bowling alley’s bright? see if it gets brighter you d-bags are just going to complain that the light is hurting your bowling game. excuses are for bums who can’t actually do it right. go home.

Comment Date: 10/23/2007 Name: Anonymous
Hey employee, lets be real. If you enjoy bringing back the 60’s throwing plastic and rubber, then bowl at ten pin. thats your choice and also mine. The point I am making is that for a league condition, it horrible. I do not enjoy standing in front of the ball return, throwing it as hard as I can just to keep it on the right side of the head pin. This is not fun, nor is it bowling. I know the lanes are half and half, but just so you know, wood is softer than synthetic and the back ends will hook more and also absord more oil. that is a fact ! Tournaments are different. You have to make the moves to score and get a check. during a league, this condition is terrible. no one should be made to bowl on a shot like this regardless of your ability EVERY week. that is my point ! I have bowled on wood before and you can put down a decent shot if you want to. the problem is that the owner does not want to. if and when bowlers do leave ten pin, he can only blame himself. remember, bowl-o-rama puts down a wall, regardless if you personnally like or not, and they have a waiting list to get into most of their leagues. that must be saying something about the modern game. i want to keep ten pin up and running for many years, but what the current owner is doing is only going to make him eventually close. we, as bowlers, can not afford to lose another center in this state. Also, you have to admit, the place is dark and dingy and should be brought up to date.

I have to agree. With so many bowlers quitting the game, why should we have to put up with dry lanes ? In order to keep your bowlers, properly oiling the lanes is a must. SWPT is a dry house period ! You guys mouthing off about adjusting will probably be the first ones to quit because yu do not understand the modern game. Adjusting is part of it, but to burn up a $200 ball in a month of so, is just a crime. So, in closing, the lanes are dry and open your eyes, the place is a dark and dingly dump (50’s style without trying to be).

The part of your body you can put the adjustment is your wrist. If its so dry on the “dry wood lanes,” adjust your release accordingly. You should know, as you are what seems to be an experienced bowler, that the lanes are not all wood. The front ends are synthetic, and the back ends are wood. If you want to bowl at chuckie cheese, go to the other local centers. If you want a challenge, so your scores mean something at the end of the night, I dont see a problem with this house.

i could be wrong, but don’t owners hire people like you to oil lanes for them? if it’s such a “dump” don’t come anymore, unless of course it’s to oil the lanes.

Comment Date: 10/16/2007 Name: Anonymous
Hey Mr 300, guess you enjoy bowling on dry lanes, especially when your new reactive ball hits those dry wood lanes. Problem is, I can hook it wihout the lanes being toast. Guess you already know this, but just in case, take a reactive ball, throw it on dry wood lanes, and you are standing in front of the ball return. If this is a tournament, I have no problem, but for a weekly league condition, you got to be kidding. So you know what part of your body you can put your “adjustment”.

dear “anonymous”,
if you cant adjust, then pick up a new hobby.

Comment Date: 10/9/2007 Name: Anonymous
First off, many bowling centers offer food other than pizza. Talk to the manager when booking yu party.
The new owner is a jerk. He keeps the lanes dry so he can hook it. Plus he uses a dull ball. he needs to take lessons and stop oiling the lanes for himself but for his customers.
The place is still dark and dingy. Basically a dump. He did make some improvements, but not on the lanes or the machines. From what I can tell, many of the bowlers are not happy and think of going elsewhere next year. Pretty strong words, since the leagues just started. Well, time will tell.

I’d like to just comment on how amazing their birthday parties are. My husband and I had our son’s 9th birthday there and THANK GOD they don’t just offer pizza (my son is lactose intolerant). i think they are the only bowling alley in the world that gives the kids choices.
also, we had a great attentive hostess. the food was good, the service was good, and we had a great time! our family ended up staying way past the alloted two hours to play pool and hang out.
thanks ten pin!

I went to SWTP yesterday and loved it! i can’t believe that comments that some people have left here. since the new owners (what a nice family, by the way) things have really improved.
i never liked the old people in the snack bar (some witchylooking woman) but am glad to see they got new people.
i hear they are having a fun event on october 12. ill be there!

Your are exactly correct. His service is OK, but his personality is terrible(can not stand his ego). Went somewhere else and happy I did.

Comment Date: 7/24/2007 Name: JJ
No actually my name is Jim. You know what everyone has their own opinions on what kind of service you get and what kind of people that we deal with. There is no reason to go around in circles about this. If you don’t like his service then go somewhere else.

JJ, lets be honest, Is your real name Dirk ?

Comment Date: 7/17/2007 Name: Anonymous
Hey, your right. A friend of mine took a lesson from Dirk recently and said his ball was drilled wrong. He forgot he drilled it at Bradley. He then said, his hand must have changed and needed to be refited. He is a rip off.

Comment Date: 7/14/2007 Name: JJ
For your information Dirk did not try to sell me a ball. I already have good arsenal and Dirk knew that. Dirk only tries to sell you a ball if he thinks you need one. If you are taking a lesson with a house that is not drilled for your hand he is always going try and sell you a ball because a ball that fits your hand is going to work better. And for you information Dirk does not drill balls wrong he drills them to what you ask for. If the ball didn’t do what you wanted it to do then maybe you should leave the drilling specs up to Dirk.

Comment Date: 7/12/2007 Name: Anonymous
Hey JJ, I am sure during your lesson he either tried to sell you a ball or did sell you a ball. Unless he drilled it, the ball is ALWAYS drilled wrong. Guess its just Dirk being Dirk.

To Bowl:
If you could do a better job than those 2 guys then do it. Stop whining! I have gotten all of my equipment from Dirk and I am very pleased with the service. Yes the place looks run down but they care more about taking care of the lanes than making the place look good. Yes, “bowl” is right it takes a week to get a ball from Dirk if it’s a plug and redrill. Usually when you buy a new ball he drills it right then while you wait. I have also taken lessons from Dirk and was very pleased. He video taped me, went over everything that I should do and what I’m not doing, he also burned me a copy of the recording with his adjustments so I could review it at home.
Overall, SWTP is a nice place to have a good time.

Comment Date: 7/9/2007 Name: Anonymous
Besides the bowling ball, you should have bought a lottery ticket, because it appears that was your lucky day.

Comment Date: 7/6/2007 Name: Anonymous
Hey Erik, guess with dirks help you must be averaging over 140. Not bad for a kid around 10 years old.
SWTP does not make you a better bowler with automatic back ends, just a good HOUSE BOWLER.
Go somewhere else where you have to release the ball properly to generate a back end, then come back and post, maybe when you turn 15.

Went to see Dirk at his shop and got a great fit.
My ball was drilled while I waited.

It’s funny to me that people wont put their real name in these things and insist on talking sh*t. Ive been going to sw ten pin since i was an infant, my parents bowled there and i started bowling there as soon as i could lift a ball. They have one of the best run youth programs in the state. This is not a corporate owned bowling alley, never was and hopfully will never be . If you care more about appearance then bowling conditions go to one of the corporate owned houses. The lanes are not “over oiled”, they are however more challenging then most houses in the area i’ve been to because the backends are wood, adjustments need to be made more often. The approaches are mint, in my entire life I’ve never had a problem sliding. The pro shop is top notch and Dirk is actually a really humble person. He knows an insane amount of information and is very passionate about bowling. I’ve had all my friends go to him and every one of them couldnt be happier with the ball he recommended and his drilling technique. Most pro shops are interested in selling you “whats hot” and will recommend a ball without ever seeing you bowl. I have also been taking lessons from him for a year now, my average jumped so much a bunch of people in league were convinced i was sand bagging. I do not work for sw ten pin, im just passionate about the place and bowling in general. So if your looking for a family friendly/owned bowling alley with an entire staff filled with genuinely nice people and a top notch pro shop this is the place for you. If your looking for a place with a cool arcade and bloated prices go to one of the corporate centers. FYI- SW ten pin has $1.50 games on sundays until 4pm.

Everytime I walk in there, its like going back in time. BUT I do not feel any younger

Comment Date: 6/25/2007 Name: Anonymous
That comment about the place looking old, you know what, that person is right on. I walked in there the other night and took a real close look around, yea, it does look old and out dated. Guess the only good thing is that its still open.

Comment Date: 6/19/2007 Name: Anonymous
During the summer they close on Monday & Tuesday–The rest of the week they are open from noon till midnight. Sundays they open at 9am
During the fall they are open every day at 9am

Comment Date: 6/18/2007 Name: Anonymous
I just bowled there for the first time. I am too young to have bowled in the 50’s, but I am sure it must have felt like bowling at South Windsor. The place looks and feels OLD !!!!!!

Comment Date: 6/11/2007 Name: Anonymous
to “bowler”. I do not go to Dirk for my equipment, he is too much in love with himself and I am surprised that his head fits through the door. but your comment about the 2 guys makes no sense. When you pay TOP dollar for a ball, you want the best service you can get, I do not care if these guys work other jobs. If poor service is the best you can get, go somewhere else.

I’ve come to SW Ten Pin a few saturday nights to do Red Pin. It was the first time I had ever done Red Pin, and let me tell you, the woman who runs Red Pin, s*cks! We have to wait for her to call our shot, and when we call her over to announce our shot, she can’t hear us! I think she runs Red Pin terribly, and I cannot wait for Spare Time Vernon to start Red Pin again in May.

anybody know the days n hours for open bowling there? please comment back

Comment Date: 1/21/2007 Name: bowler
To the person that made the comment about the other 2 guys working with Dirk…in my book they have done a great job. let’s see if you could do a better job. Knowing that both of them work a full time job during the day and then come there part time to help Dirk out. Maybe if Dirk got some more help in there and not over working both guys then things would be better.

I used to bowl here back in the late 80’s to early 90’s, and I must agree, the lanes were usually over-oiled and the food was pretty good. I had stopped in some random afternoon to find a sign on the door stating there was no more open bowling, only leagues. The building and parking lot were both barren and wasted away like it had been given up on, but that was a few years ago, so hopefully with the new management… well, things can only get better from here, right? Miss all you Sat afternoon leaguers!!

Comment Date: 1/11/2007 Name: G Thing
I agree about the food. It’s gone straight down the toilet if you know what i mean. The quality is horrendous. Eat before you arrive or bring something in regardless of what the sign on the door reads. Also, our league has suffered computer errors every single week. The lanes are oftne way too oily. Luckily, I dont take the game very seriously. The bathroom off the lounge / bar area is Disgusting. Could we get a stall door on the toilet please and / or a door that actually locks? I think our league is considering moving on…I hope because SWTP is hopeless.

This place was great before John passed away, then Doc let it slip into the dump with the only shining light the snack bar. Now that is gone as Benny and Cheryl have moved on. At least the place is a little better latly but it is not up to par. Hopefully the new owners will stay true to bowling and not turn it into an amusment center aka Vernon and Bradley!!!!

I have been bowling in the classic league for years and one of the most wonderful things about coming to SWTP was the food, well this season you can’t even walk into the place without feeling choked by the smell of the grease! I wish you guys could do something about it, I may not bowl there because of it, and as I said I have been coming there for years.
Plus it takes a long time to get the lanes fixed when they break down… the management we all thought was going to be great… but I am beginning to wonder

I bowled here when I was a kid (that means early ’70’s). So there may be a little nostalgic bias to this review. After a long break, bowled here with an after 3rd shift league in the 90’s and it was horrible. I would attribute that to bad management/ownership. Just visited again a few weeks ago. The house is still a little dated (little things like plan ahead if you are bringing kids because bumpers are manual – either up or down for the entire game), but there’s something about it that brings you back to the heyday of bowling. It’s the kind of place that you would expect and be happy to see old equipment in. It’s under new ownership now and the owners are very personable. The pro shop is great, I purchased a new ball there, and without my asking, Dirk drilled it while I waited. Overall it was a fun visit and I’d like to visit again. The only complaints I have are 1. (and this complaint is not specific to this house) lack of seating in the settee area. People bowl in teams of up to 4 people and families can have more, why are there only 2 or 3 places to sit? and 2. It would be great to see an overhead projector or two, even if just for display. (ok not a complaint but this place screams nostalgia)

RJ BROEGE is the MAN!!!!!!!!! Thanks for drilling my balls

Pro shop is ok, Dirk is the only one who knows what he is doing. The other guys working in there are hacks that think they know everything. Here’s an idea how about hiring the other two as porters. Only setback of Dirk is that he makes you wait a week for your ball.

THANK GOD we finally have new owners in that place. I’m only hoping they can fix it up!
