Claim to have "leagues for al skill levels" but what they mean is one league for all skill levels. Teams averaging 750 against teams averaging 500. Some of those guys with the big averages need to go find a stronger league.

to anonymous, before you go getting all upset about the sanding and smell, this is a normal procedure for wood lanes every 5 years or so. The smell will eventally go away. The approachs will regain their normal slide. and becuse the lanes have only one basecoat and one topcoat after a sanding this results in a lower friction surface which means your ball will hook less

They never update the league standings online before the following week. The point of having the league standings online is for people to be able to see them. Why does it take 7 days to update the online standing sheets?

Comment Date: 6/3/2011 Name: Anonymous
They just closed the center for a whole week - 2 weeks into a summer league - to sand the lanes and approaches. The approaches are dull and now have no slide to them. Whatever they did to the lane surface, the ball does not hook now. The whole place has a strong chemical smell to it a week after the job, even from outside the building. Hopefully, its still a work in progress.

I had an extraordinary time last night at The Bowling Palace. The place was clean, enjoyable, and very accomodating. Pleanty of customer-service oriented employees jumping to offer assistance with anyone approaching the counter, even the DJ who was taking a break. I have been to many Bowling locations and this one, hands down, offers the best overall bowling experience. I am so glad the owner offers an entertainment facility conducive to the needs of all members of the community in a ultra -friendly and economical night of fun. Check out the local mailer for great coupons and give it a try. No reason to go anywhere else. If you are not satisfied, sadly, nothing will make you happy.Management should be commended for what they have done to offer an alternative to hanging out on the streets or spending a fortune for no value elsewhere. THANK YOU VERY MUCH D'Town Bowling Palace.

I noticed most of the negative comments come from people who cannot even spell correctly. This is a non-registered site where anyone can give their comments, so you need to have a thread of common sense and read between the lines. The palace is better than is use to be back in the 80's early 90's. New ownership has tried very hard to bring back a lackluster bowling alley and turn it into something more than just that. The person bitching about kids shouldn't bowl their during Saturday or Sunday kids time/birthday parties. I think it's great they have them. Too bad that person's parents didn't think twice about having him/her. It's not a perfect place, but sure as hell is better than what was there for the first 20 years or so. Not only that, but if something is going wrong, once informed, management/ownership will do their best to change it.

Awesome place! They have awesome specials all the time. Check out thursday family fun from 4-6, where else can you get a large pizza, pitcher of soda, shoes and 2 hours of bowling for the whole fam for just $30.

i have been there many times...i think its a great place...you guys that are saying just for kids..its not...depends what time you go....saturdays and sundays are really busy with birthday parties and usually a DJ but monday to friday around 6 leagues start and its quiet ..no music ever playing...the DJ on weekends play music that you request..so it doesnt have to be all rap...I LOVE going to THE DOWNINGTOWN BOWLING PALACE...ITS A GREAT PLACE

I was just there. I agree about the beer. If I want to drink and step in beer, I will go to a bar. An next time I want to bowl, I will go to a bowling alley - and not the Palace again.

Very "low class", even for a bowling alley.

Comment Date: 9/12/2008 Name: Doug
The lanes are terrible. The Palace also has a big bar upstairs. They sell beer by the pitcher. The pitchers get spilled all the time. You have to be real careful where you step. It is loud and noisy. Not just from bowling. From kids running and screaming, and really bad, way-too-loud music. The music is terrible. Great place for young kids to hang out and carry on. Or for people who to occasionally bowl while they drink. Not for serious bowlers.

Dear Bowling Palace Management, I visited "The Palace" Bowling in Downingtown,PA recently, on the 27th July 2008 @ around 7.15PM. I went through an experience that has left a very bad taste in my mouth. I visited the place with my friends from out of town and their families. We had 3 small kids, adults and parents who were senior citizens visting from India. After entering the alley we were clueless as to what needs to be done to book a lane. None of the representatives approached us to greet or guide us to what needs to be done. This one representative(I do not want to give out names in the open forum)kept on staring at me standing at his desk 20 feet away. I would have hoped that he atleast come closer to ask if we needed help or atleast had said "Hello!!".When I asked him why he wouldn't come closer and speak with us, he said with harsh words thats where he works from. I failed to understand why he would treat us like that , especially he walked over to the counter to attend a lady few minutes before us. When I asked him his name, he initially refused to give his name and then gave his name and said he is the General Mgr. Was he hinting that as a GM he can do anything he likes ? Then I tried to talk to him and tell him that all I was expecting was a hello and a smile to get me comfortable talking to him, he did not let me even speak. He was in no mood to listen to me, even after my sincere requesting him to atleast let me finish what I was trying to tell him. Then suddenly he thought that I was agressive and indicated that he is not going to let us play and asked us to leave. At no point I was being abusive or being a nuisance, on what basis did he decide that? Then yet again after 2min he decides to give us the lanes. Are we at the mercy of this person who decides who gets to play and who does not. My kids and parents were shaken due to this experience. This was not my idea of a fun filled evening with family and kids. I am very dissapointed and disgusted with this behavior. Thanks for ruining the first bowling experience for our parents. With this said,I would like the owners to ask the concerned person the reason for his behaviour and ensure that this does not happen again. For additional info, I was playing in lane 20 on 27th July 2008 in the evening. Vik

oh - and the pro shop is NEVER open. Good luck buying a ball or getting anything worked on there.

I wouldn't bowl there if it was the only center in my area. First, the name says it all - "Palace Entertainment Center". It is not about bowling there. They have a huge bar, and it is all about the beer and the drinking. Beer spills everywhere, gets on your shoes so you can't bowl. Impossible to avoid. Huge dance floor in the dead middle of the place, you have to walk through it to get to the lanes to bowl. Kids, kids, kids, kids, and did I mention the place is full of young kids running everywhere? Just awful.

I enjoy this bowling palace. Although it can be dark, it is still fun and I've always had a blast at the Birthday parties.

{deleted}...im an employee there dents in the heads? Not enough oil? To crowded? wood lanes, wood lanes, isnt that the idea?

Comment Date: 8/15/2007 Name: john
Go to ANY bowling center with wooden lanes and you will see dents in the head area. That applies to all lanes, no matter what center. The heads take the most abuse from bowling balls. This is not just limited to Bowling Palace.

Comment Date: 3/21/2007 Name: Anonymous
a dump. an unsupervised mess. the heads are dented from people dropping balls and the pro shop is never open. if you want to send the kids there to hang out listen to music and dance/bowl, go ahead, they will have fun. if you want to bowl...go somewhere that actually looks and sounds like a bowling ally.

I love it there. Me and my friends go every thursday and always have a blast. I agree the music needs to be changed. But other than that I have no complaints. The workers are nice and friendly, and besides $2 games and $1 yuengling's on a thursday night sounds like a good deal to me.

way too crowded and loud - good teeny bopper hangout

Comment Date: 1/9/2006 Name: Bob
Everything wasn't that good and when I was there people were fighting and it wasn't supervised well. When I'm bowling all I hear is rap and it's really loud and too dark there. Putting more lights and putting on better music would make it better.

Comment Date: 6/7/2005 Name: Anonymous
It is way too dark all the time. Needs better lighting. They don't run the machine that puts the oil down on the lanes often enough. The lanes hook way too much. You almost hurt yourself trying to keep your ball on your side of the headpin. The left side in my case. Should not be that way.
