They finally replaced the Twister pins with wood pins. Many outages now due to the pins sliding off spot. But still too many outages for new pinsetters - balls still getting stuck in pit due to pins blocking them.

The lane chart at the top of the page is incorrect, it indicates Food: No when in actuallity, Jeanne's Diner is part of the facility and the food is great.

I was a mechanic for Brunswick for 12 years I have heard a lot of these comments over the years even though I had a pretty big budget to work with we ran A-2 jet backs and did quite a few modifications to them to stop cushion linkage breakage and other things even though we did daily preventive maintence we still had break downs. Not having parts does hurt the flow of things for sure. I have done side jobs in small dumps for a better term and I am sure this center is better than you all think. what kind of lane machine do they use what kind of pin setters? what kind of pins? what is the condition they use on the lanes? there are a lot of variables that most bowlers don't know about even humidity plays an important role in lane conditions as well as approaches. So I guess I am saying it could always be worse!!!

MWR finally decided to replace the old A2 Brunswick pinsetters. Unfortunately, they put it out for lowest bid and AMF won. Constantly slow ball returns as the balls seem to get stuck in the pit because of a pin, frequent breakdowns like pins dropping or falling over when set, sometimes for several re-racks in a row. One can only hope that this is just a break-in period and the machines will settle down but somehow I don't think so. I think the new AMF machines are pieces of junk. It seems like there are more outages now than before.

Italian Stallion, Let's break down your post. Wow what a buch of Whiners. Whiners? The lane machines are old (fact) and Desert Lanes does not have the proper budget for parts (fact, that was reported by the manager), therefore they do break down quite often and for long periods of time, for months, the same problems persist. That may be whining to you but it is a cry for help from the customers. This is the best bowling alley in town and I've seen a lot worse. Be truthful. It is the ONLY bowling center in the local area and it is on the Fort, not in the town. Yes, you probably did see worse especially if you bowled at Vista Lanes when it was still around. Steve, Ted and the new fella are always courteous and do their best. Yes, they are courteous and good people. They need more money for machine parts and then we will see how skilled they truly are. Right now their best is being hampered by a lack of parts. If you bums dont get a 250 plus every game you cry like a baby. Maybe its not the equipment, maybe your just a lousy bowler. I did not notice any complaints about scoring, in fact, one reply stated that the lane conditions were easy. Do you feel that is a complaint? Almost all of the complaints were about the lane machines breaking down. How does the lane machines breaking down frequently equate to being a bad bowler? I think you are trying to deflect from the house problems and trying to put it on the bowlers when you say they are complaining about the scores when since 2008, there are no complaints about scores. ========================== Most bowling centers are being operated as a profit driven business. They use the bowling as a draw to get customers into the center and then make their profits from the bar or food concessions. That is not the case for Desert Lanes, therefore they are not making the profits they should be making to have money for parts.

Lol, Stallion you haven't been here lately, luckily for them theyre the ONLY place in town! You are right about the conditions, They are EASY! and their courteousy doest make up for bad running spotters, obviously their best isnt good enough, if you are giving the place a fair and accurate review you have to be honest, and it really does run awful! with all excuses aside it falls on managment and mechanic! Wake Up MWR!!!!

Dear Management, I cant believe that you let this continue. Alleys are always broke down or giving trouble. Im ready for a change.

This is my first season here at the fort and I have to say it is Horrible. I have watched the same pinspotter problem for 6 weeks and brought it to their attention the first 3 and gave up. If the mechanic and his crew cant fix it why are they there? I am told the place was remodeled a couple of years ago, I donít believe it, maybe a little lipstick but thatís about it, and I am told that the manager is the former mechanic. Im puzzled??? All of the comments that I read here are still happening after years, wth? MWR you could do better.

The oil patterns are inconsistent. Very seldom the same from week to week. The machines seem to be in bad need of repair or replacement, as they are always breaking down. Some of the issues that have supposedly been corrected, continue to act up. Excluding the restaurant, the service at the lanes are lousy. It's almost like they don't want to believe you when something needs attention. It seems the proprietors at the desk are more involved in playing computer games, rather than addressing the customers. It's the first bowling alley I've ever been in that doesn't have a pro shop.

I'm pretty new to the area and I agree that the places is pretty bad and the staff is indifferent to their customers. I have been to many mwr centers and they do not operate like this one. I thought they just had an inexperienced mechanic on staff, come to find out he is just lazy, lazy, lazy!!! and the rest of the staff follows his example. After reading the comments below, I can see he has some kind of "special friendship" with the manager of the center. So if the manager wont do anything about it, maybe we should go through other channels?? "Just Sayin"

Another terrible season gone by! but whats a bowler to do?, Still no alternative to this place. As a side note, the pinspotters do not run well.

Hey Anonymous- Machines run like crap, sounds pretty specific to me!

Comment Date: 6/22/2012 Name: Anonymous
When people complain about a center they need to give specific examples why things are crap and not use generic terms it just makes them sound like they don't have a clue what they are talking about.

Steve, Seriously, What other perspective is to be seen here? the place runs like crap! WHY ?? As for volunteering in the back, WHY ?? Is your MECHANIC NOT PAID to do it?? If Ted needs help, get him some! We all know the lane conditions here are easy or great, depending on your perspective, now if you can just balance it with at the very least good running machines, everyone would be happy! I do agree with you on Mr. Williams though! Please, do something!

Comment Date: 10/7/2011 Name: Steve
Whoever put in this comment needs to come down and volunteer in the back and then they can see it from another perspective instead of shooting off thier unknowlegeble mouth!! By the way to you that's Mr. Williams and Mr. Neuman to you because you obviously not a friend of ours.

Come ON! Are you kidding US ? This place NEEDS a MECHANIC that can FIX something, rather than talk about fixing something! Same Problems WEEK after WEEK after WEEK ! We are extremely DISGUSTED with this place and we have had it! MWR get rid of Ted! He does nothing but the bare minimum and gets away with it because of his friendship with Steve!

WOW! They closed for the better part of a year to remodel and this is the BEST that they can do, and they are not even finished ??? I will never understand it, what a WASTE of TIME and MONEY!!! I wish Vista Lanes was still downtown even they would not of played us for this big of FOOLS!

This place is going to close for renovation on January 20 and won't reopen until August. I can imagine how good this place will be when they reopen. For me, it will be a long way because I live in Hawaii and i was up visiting my mother-in-law who live in Sierra Vista (I go nowhere without my bowling gear)

I've rolled in this house back in June 2006 and found it to be a very good house facility and lane wise. The staff was nice and courtious, the lanes was nice. In most miliatry houses, you would expect the facilities to be in nice order, this is no exeception, Desert Lanes is a nice house. (At least it was nice when I was there in 2006)

There is very poor carry in this house. Lanes are in decent shape but ball return and pin setter machines are very old and in need of often repair. The Non-PBA manager is influenced more by the garrison commanding general than by bowling clientel or sound bowling business considerations. This is (last 2-years) the only bowling alley in Sierra Vista area so it luckily has a captive clientel. If there was a reasonable alternative, this house as currently run and equipped would do little civilian business.
