On Friday (November 9, 2012), evening co-workers and I went to Sandpiper Bowling Lanes at 3291 Ashley Phosphate Rd, North Charleston, SC. We enjoyed several games of bowling. This was not I first time to visit this location. Had been there several times. Never had an issue or encountered a manager like Dave Frye. Three black veterans that served this great country proudly. Two of them retired from the military. Charleston is a military area. I believe all people should be treated equally. Upon us settling our bill, Dave Frye was working the register. We asked for a print out of the game scores. Than it, happen! A white customer walked up to the counter and started talking to Dave Frye (Manager). He stopped taking care of my co-workers and me and started taking care of the white customer. I am standing right in front of Dave Frye when he quit waiting on me and started waiting on the white customer. My mouth just dropped open. I just looked at him. He asked a black employee to finish taking care of us as he continued to wait on the white customer. The black employee could not get to the register, because Dave Frye was using it. I am still in shock and just looking at him, because I could not believe my eyes. Why would he stop waiting on us and take care of the white customer? I believe he realized what he had done and I was looking at him in disbelief. He turned to me and asked me why I was staring at him. I told him I could not believe what he was doing. He made it a point to let me and my co-workers know he was the manager and he did not like me looking at him. Before I could tell him about his action, he spoke to me in a loud rude voice that he was the manager and I needed to leave his establishment. I said, ďas soon as I pay my bill Iím out of here. I canít believe in this day and age that people still see people as color.Ē Dave Frye insisted on telling us that he was the manager. We were in disbelief. I just kept looking at Dave Frye with disbelief. He told me, he did not like me looking at him and I need to leave. I wanted to pay my bill and get out of there. Once our bill was settled and started walking out, Dave Frye came from behind the counter and followed us outside. A police officer (working security) was walking in. Dave Frye told the officer that I was no longer welcomed at Sandpiper Bowling Lanes at 3291 Ashley Phosphate Rd North Charleston, SC. The officer asked Dave Frye what I done. He stated that I was looking at him and wanted me to have a trespass notice placed on me. The officer looked at Dave Frye with disbelief on his face. Dave Frye stated that he was the manager and could put a trespass notice on anyone. Dave Frye singled me out because I looked him. He stops waiting on my co-workers and me and started waiting on a white customer. I thought money was green, but some people still see black and white. Maybe the election had him upset; maybe he was having a bad evening (I doubt it, because he laughing with his white customers). As I was getting my trespass, notice another black couple walked and stated they were going elsewhere to bowl. They could not believe what had happen. Other customers saw Dave Frye actions with me. They too were in disbelief. Some left the bowling center. In this day and time, customer service is paramount. He could use some training on customer service and race relations. I view Dave Frye actions as racist. Had nothing to do with me looking at him. He wanted me to know that he was the manager and he was better than I was. Well, Dave Frye has lost others and me as customers. We bowl when we travel to relax after a full day of work. I know his actions are not indicative of Sandpiper Bowling Lanes, because we used the facility many times before. However, he has caused Sandpiper Bowling Lanes to lose customers because of his actions with me and my co-workers.

Sandpiper is home for us. The adult and youth leagues are well supported. I have never been treated poorly by staff, they try hard to meet the needs of many walks of life. All age groups participate here. My family supports the kitchen and everything they prepare is "the good stuff" - worth the price for your convenience and taste. My opinion is, if the pickier kids like it - it must be good. Remember - this is not Bi-Lo. I think the only place on the planet with bathrooms worse than airports is the bowling alley and this one qualifies, and is my only real dislike.

My husband and I both bowl league in this house, and two of our children bowl there as well. The staff is about the same as it was under previous ownership, they were great then, and are still doing very well. Their food is a little expensive, but eat before you come if you don't like their prices. Overall, it is one of the best bowling centers in the area. They offer fair prices, great service, and a very safe, family environment.

If you play pool in the arcade,be prepared to pay another rack just to get the cue ball back!!! just so you know! I know because I went through it!I don't know the price for a game exactly ;it was a long time ago,but somewhere on the order of 8 years ago it was approaching $1.25!KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!

Truthfully I hate this bowling alley, I have been bowling here for 4 years and it has gotten worse each year, If you are a serious bowler that has a lot of turn on the ball, this is probably a very unforgiving house. And the people are ridiculous, they are very unfriendly and very hard to put up with, I'm not saying you won't like but I sure don't.

I haven't been there lately, almost a year i can only hope things have changed for the better;as for the $$signs that 's no mistake at least the last time I actually bowled it was approaching $4.00/game!! @least $3.75 anyway ,that was around 4years ago.good thing I had my own shoes or it would have been at least $7.00 before i threw the 1st ball!! I agree with the last posting, you can't take a family of four bowling here without spending at least $50.00, that's 4 shoe rentals and 2 games each AND you have to start right away, NO practice balls to loosen up with,{for anyone who bowls alot,leagues/tournaments}I'm not talking a whole game just 2frames snack bar is waaay over $$ you could buy a dinner out for four ,NOT fast food either. NOt priced with working class in mind, even plant workers would balk at paying upwards of $50.00 for an evening of bowling;at least here anyway .JUst to prove a point ,I bowled 3games,had a hamburger ,soda {not a small] a large and fries it was almost as much as3 games of bowling and that burger was a large;altogether I parted with at least $22.00 that day, JUST for ONE person!!1

I went up there one Saturday morning around9:00and walked up to the door, thinking they would be open and this man was cleaning the front glass door,{the inside one}he told me to come back @11;00,the lights were off inside but there was no sign saying hours for Saturday. I had my balls with me too, what a shame so I just went homemoral of story ,save your precious gas you worked so hard for and call BEFORE you drive!!I just got off work and ate breakfast and thought about bowling a couple of games;you were right no people skills wasn't nice at all just coe back at 11:00,no please or anything just come back at 11:00 I was willing to take orders in the Navy ,but not when I'm about to fork out $$,and certainly not to pay some grumpy man to clean glass doors,Iwas getting tired so I said hang this I,m going home!!They should screen who they are about to hire to detect personality problems and decide if that.s who they want working for them, see if the person REALLY WANTS to be there!!! If not, then GET SOMEONE WHO DOES !!!

Ever since the new owners took over, the staff is unfriendly and prices are rediculus. It seems as if the new owners are trying to shut themselves down.
