Today, 4/6/2016,I was on the K bus going to Arrott St visiting the old neighborhood and when the bus came to Adams Lanes,I seen that they tore out the steps, the over head and the doorway was partly boarded up. As the bus Sat there waiting for the light,I looked at it and it kind of broke my heart how it looked run down and how those neighborhoods have went down. Had a lot of great times on my Thursday night league back in the 80's.How sad it is now.

I just found out Adams Lanes closed. My brother David Adams bowled there for years. He worked there as well. Adams Lanes was my first job. I worked there from March 1986 to August 1989. I started out as a porter and then a pin chaser. It was great working with the people there at the time and Bert was a real character. If anyone who worked there durring that time and remembers me, please email me at {So sorry - No personal email address - B2U Staff} Would love to hear from you.

I earned my bowling stripes at Adams Lanes as a young adult begining in 1982. I and my friends spent alot of time and money at Adams throughout the 80's and enjoyed every moment. I last bowled there in March 1990, and due to changes in life due to a growing family, had to cut out some leisure activities and bowling took the hit. NOW, 21 years later, when some of life's primary prioities have been met and satisfied, leisure time is slowly returning. So I visited Adams Lanes in early May 2011 just to see how it looked and to once again regard it as a go-to place. Upon entering the facility, I was immediately impressed with the appearance. There were changes however. The pro shop was relocated. The restrooms were upgraded. There was a game room area and a pool table accupying the space where the pro shop was previously located. Otherwise, everything looked really good. But after speaking to the staff, I learned that the place was closing. I immediatley felt the feeling that one might feel when you hear that an old aquaintance has passed away. But it was awkward as the lanes appeared busy and the place was dressed up. I couldn't accept the news. It didn't make sense. Regardless, Adams Lanes is closing and that is that. So sad... It's a shame. It's right up there with the demise of The Vet and The Spectrum in my humble opinion. Come June 2011, Adams Lanes will be missed....

I just found this site a couple of days ago. I've been a league secretary at Adams Lanes for more than 40 years and have bowled there as many as three legues a week. The bowlers and employees there were like family to me and I'm going to miss all of them. And speaking of the employees - both past and present - I'd like to say "thank you" for all you did for me over the years. It's been a real pleasure knowing all of you. And for those of you who bowled in the leagues, where I served as secretary - I thank you, too, you were all so nice to me, I'll never forget you. We had some great times there. Proud Member of the "Adams Family"

IT IS A SAD DAY FOR OUR FAMILY ADAMS LANES..... now I have been going to Adam's lanes for as long as I knew bowling (5yrs or MORE) Now I must say on behalf of me and my kids that this was the best spot in town for us to go on Sundays for a little relaxation and good ole family fun.. We have been doing this for the last 5 years and hated to find out in such short notice (2 WEEKS) that they were shutting there doors for good.. We don't want to see you leave and I truly feel bad for the employees who have been there too long to lose there jobs in such short notice.. I will refuse to travel to Erie lanes. What adds insult to injury is the bowling alley just got cosmetic sugery for the better... I just can't put my hand on this....ADAMS LANES WILL TRUELY BE MISSED!!!!!!!!!

With the closing of this establishment, it's a time of great mourning for the Adams Lanes extended bowling family. Disregard the comments from the open bowlers about the fries, they know not what they say. (I remember when that snack bar was the play room.) Good times, good people, happy memories and a couple of high scores to boot.

I was just their this past weekend the price was the best thing I would never eat thier the food area dose not like clean. Now the lanes was just ok at best, so much oil on the lane I could have fryed chicken with it, bring a towel to wipe the ball and the computer kept adding pins and most of the time the machine would drop only 9 pins.

Well, its absolutely not true that Adams is the best bowling alley in the city. CLEARLY anyone that is saying that must have some personal benefit in saying it (i.e. works there). Adams is good for what its good for....cheap bowling and a place to have a good time with friends. No frills attached. The only reason for patronage is the $1 bowling. The lanes brake frequently and a lot of the staff is less than friendly (not everyone) but alot. You feel like you have to be extremely nice to them because theyre doing you a favor by serving you. Now im not saying its the WORST...i come and will continue to come quite frequently as long as the price is right. But in comparisson with many of the other Brunswick Lanes...this one is in need of repair.

I used to bwol at Adams Lanes in a Thursday night league back in the 80's. It was old but it had character and I liked when they added The Beer Frame plus they had Pac Man,Defender,Frogger and all the Arcade games back then. I remember Burt the Janitor and Bernie Magid who was the manager back in those days. I stopped by about a year ago and seen they modernize it and it was nice but it seems to have lost its character. I missed those old score tables and the aqua blue and white chairs and of course the beer frame. But what can you do, times change.

Joel M.M.S W.Z.F. (I can throw titles out also...) I remember you and what you wrote is not all that accurate. Lets define Bait and Switch: An illegal tactic in which a seller advertises a product with the intention of persuading customers to purchase a more expensive product. OK Joel you seem like a pretty inteligent guy! (INTENTION) This is the key word. This is what happen: I had a sign posted in the parking lot that said $1 games Monday and Wednesday from 9am to 5pm. (holiday's excluded) That sign remained outside for one year and if a customer walk in on any Monday or Wednesday during the year they would get the $1 games. You walked in on a holiday Monday and our rate was $2.00 on that day. Every sign, flyer, and advertisement in the building stated that specials were not included on holidays. The front desk clerk showed you all the signage in the building stating this. Every bowling alley in the city raises their prices when everyones off (during holidays). We increased from $1 to $2. This is still cheaper than our competition at the time. I NEVER hung up on you. You were being an a**sh*le telling me you were going to sue and have my job. Over $1 a game. You were angry at something else and took it out on the employees. My reputation speak for itself. I'm sure there are a lot of customers that love me and a few that didn't. This is the nature of a General Manager job. Sometimes we need to say no. Also, I remember telling you on the phone to come in and I would give you BOGO (buy one game get one free) that would make the cost $1 per game. You forgot to add this to your whining. Joel stop spending your life so miserable and hug someone! from Dan the ex manager of Adams Lanes.

I have just visited the Adams lanes and am left quite dissapointed by their customer service. when ordering my bowling package the guy was very slow at processing the order(we were the only people being waited on). It took ten minutes for him to get our order of two games for two adults and one chid right. Later i ordered french fries and a soda and the cook took a 1/2 hour break and then finally served me overcooked frenchfries. the poor service definitely took some fun out of the experience.

I went to Adam's Lane Bowling alley on Monday, January 16, 2006. I saw a sign outside the bowling alley advertising 99 cent bowling on Mondays and Thursdays. I and four of my relatives decided to go bowling. When we got inside, we noticed that they had posted a sign changing the price per game to $1.50. I spoke with the counterperson and he stated that the matter was out of his hands. I told him that since we were already there, that we would, under protest, pay for the games and seek a remedy later. I subsequestly placed a phone call to Dan Ciecka, who identified himself as the Manager. I explained to him my concerns about "baiting and switching." His response was, "It takes too much time to change the sign." and he refused to discuss any remedy. He eventually hung up on me. He also stated that if I wanted a remedy, I needed to pursue it legally. I don't believe that I was treated with good customer service and would like to hear from someone at a higher level than the manager, before I pursue other remedies. Thanking you in advance. Joel S. Perry, M.S.S.

I think the Adams Lanes is one of the best bowling alleys in Philadelphia. The food is great and the atmosphere is excellent. My family and I go every Saturday. See you there.
